A brilliant idea - these guys let you park your bike for free, no questions asked. They trust that you'll return the favor at some point by making a purchase at their store. Well, I think it works - the first time I parked my bike here I actually had them do a bit of maintenance work for a very reasonable price. A great model business for our city. Cash is an excellent guy and super knowledgeable! My dad had a great experience with him talking over the phone. Once we came into the store, we were surprised to see exactly how much space and inventory they had inside. Cash was great at managing quite a few customers and my dad was able to try a myriad of bikes, right there on the city streets. Cash was so on top of things, he was able to answer all of our questions effortlessly and in the end, my dad walked out with a great folding bike. I had my bike tuned up here and they were awesome. They did all the usual stuff - adjusted my brakes, my derailleurs, etc. But they also checked to see if my chain had stretched. I'd been having lots trouble with my bike shifting gears unexpectedly - they replaced the chain and now it's like a whole new bike. Also - my rear derailleur hanger was bent. They called in the middle of the day to let me know this and that they could bend it back. But they wanted to warn me that this might break it, and since I have an older bike, it would take a long time to get a replacement part. That being the case, they wanted my permission to continue with the repair. Very considerate. I told them yes, and everything worked out fine. I commute on the train with my bike, so the location was very convenient. Just dropped off my bike in the morning, walked to work, and picked it up on my way home. All for $65. This is a great bike shop! read more

I came in the other day because I just started biking to work. I was concerned as to why people who were pedaling much less vigorously than I were passing me by with ease. Heck, I think some people were even walking faster! Anyhow, I learned about tire pressure and seat height from some of the nicest employees around. After some asshat skateboarder darted out in front of me on the embarcadero and pitched me off of my bike, my rear tire was in dire shape. I came to Warm Planet to have an electric bicycle kit that I got online installed on my bike. After calling 6-7 bike shops in the city, they were the only ones who agreed to do the installation. Awesome community/commuter bike shop for all the right reasons! These guys take service to a new direction. Valet service during commute hours brought me to them. Nice people providing emergency services, witty commentary, a smile returned, and needed parts, make me enthusiastic about this place. If you're buying a commuter/folding bike, go nowhere else. The've got helmets and pretty much every contraption to strap things to your bike. When you need lights, emergency services or need to park your bike you will appreciate this place. If you are looking for an assortment of 100 different types of road and mountain bikes - go somewhere else. I can't imagine that the place is cranking lots of sales, partly due to no web presence and not a huge selection of merch, so I think it is pretty appreciated to tip reasonably if you use valet daily. Overall, Amazing for what it is. Great people super-tuned into sf biking and the bike Coalition. Thank you Warm Planet team for doing what you do. P.S. These guys are great. I walked in with a bike flat today at around 4 pm. They said they wouldn't be able to repair the tire on the spot but that they had tubes for $5 and I could borrow the tools I needed (wrench, pump, etc). I'm a novice when it comes to changing tires so naturally I botched my first try - pinched the tube. One of the technicians saw my struggles, and took the time to not only help me with my second attempt but to give me a quick tutorial on the best way to change a tire. Thanks! read more

Ran over a shard of glass this morning at some point between home to San Antonio Caltrain Station. Was dreading having to walk 30 minutes to my office, but remembered there was a bike shop next to the train station. Was pleasantly surprised at the low cost of flat repairs ($10)*, and they sealed the deal for me when they said they could fix it for me immediately, if I didn't mind waiting around for a few minutes. Anyways, $10 (tax included) and about 5 minutes later, I was biking to work. Conveniently awesome. *I usually do my own repairs and thought it'd be higher for some reason, or they'd charge $10 for the labor + extra for the tube. But they didn't. So yay! read more

This review is for the an amazing bike trailer I purchased at this shop. If you aren't familiar, this place has anything and everything folding bike, including bike trailers. I had a unique problem which many SF residents with bikes may face; shopping with a compact bike. I bought a bike Friday tikit from warm planet a year ago and realized I needed more capacity for bigger trips to Trader Joes. I used to use a push cart but walking takes forever. I discussed my issue with the owner here and he recommended a Burley trailer product named the Travoy. It's a rear trailer that'll fit just about any bike large or folding. And get this, it also folds, which is perfect for my limited size apartment. As well, you can get shopping specific bags which are a snap to connect to the trailer. Its quick release system is very well designed and even over-loading the trailer while having it tip over didn't break the product. (I'm very rough with my toys :)). Well anyway, while shopping it was easy to disconnect my trailer in 1 second, shop and be on my way; all 50 additional pounds of me. After my trip from Trader Joe's I sped down steep bumpy hills with ease and had no notice to having a trailer on my back side. All in all it was an excellent solution to my problem, it's well designed and thanks to kash (the owner here) and burley trailers I now am able to go to further distances to shop. (As a note: I was worried that the price would've been much more than amazon but thankfully burley and warm planet bikes have good control of their prices and it was identical in price. pheww) read more

Even though I made clear up front that I will not buy it due to limited transport capacities (plane) I was given the opportunity to test it plus some time the guy took to chat and discuss with me. These guys are fast, gracious, don't expect tips, personalize advice for you, check out the bike and look after you when you pick it up; I really hurt my neck on Monday after dropping it off on the previous Thursday, and even though it says they'll charge after leaving it there for 2 days, they waived the fee and said they'd hold it until my neck got better and I could ride again. Treat these guys with respect, and it's easy to make friends - and they really help you out! Only negative is a really expensive bike bag i bought there came with a rip on it, and they were as late as 12 minutes one morning (hey, open 7a to 8p, not bad though...) These guys are clearly here for the love of biking, and the free valet service is one of the few amazing perks to being a taxpayer and feeling like our money is being used for productive means for good, healthy, productive people (how often does that happen?) :-D Good force!! read more

God... came in with a blown out *back* tube. The repair person said I needed to repair the entire tire and that it would take a week to get the tire in. Two weeks later after several calls, I find out they've replaced *both* tires with another tire brand. First off, they've screwed up the brakes on the bike-- making them far too loose. Right off the bat, I get a flat from the new tire they've put on my *front* tire. I have them replace the tube. I get another flat. I replace the tube. I get another flat. I go to another bike shop... I get another flat. I have them examine the tire to see if something is defective. They tell me nothing is wrong with the tire. They put on a tube. I get a flat. I examine the tire myself and 15 minutes after looking I find a loose piece of metal in the tire. So not only did I get charged double the amount of money for the repair for a problem I didn't have in the first place (my front tire), they screw up my brakes, put on a crappy tire on my bike and don't diagnose a simple problem with my front tire. Sure they're nice people and worked with me-- although never offering a refund mind you-- but basically incompetent. Avoid them like the plague unless you just want to park your bike there. I will never have them touch my bicycle ever again. read more

I took my bike in, paid $60 for a tune up. I took it on on a Thursday and was told that it would be ready by Friday. Sounded good to me, especially in comparison to the other bike shops. I got my bike back and it was as if nothing had been fixed. nada. When I called to complain I was impressed with the customer service and how responsive they were....I got my bike back later that day. However, 3rd time is a charm. STILL, the bike was having problems and AGAIN, I took it in. Free of charge, they finally fixed it. It took 3 times, but the bike runs great now. read more

I walked in and had to wait at least two minutes before any of the 5 guys standing behind the counter even acknowledged me. I'm kind of a bike newbie and had a simple question "hey I think my gear is jammed can you help me out?" The guy didn't even take a look at my bike, all he said was "where did you buy it.... Take it back there" and very rudely I might add. He didn't even take 15 seconds to walk to my bike and give it a simple look. Like really, Its just common curtesy.... After riding another 5 miles to another bike shop I found out it simply required a little jiggling. An extremely simple solution that I am sure he would have been able to solve if he had just taken the time to stop reading the newspaper and be a decent employee. Two stars cause the place is nice but the customer service I encountered was horrendous. read more

The Caltrain bike valet service is perfect with one exception: I realize everyone needs a break, but 8:30, in the middle of the morning rush, is not a good time to put up the "Be back in 5 min" sign. read more

This place is a lifesaver in the City! This morning, I arrived from the train with a bungee cord hook trapped in my derailleur and a dislodged chain. In a few quick minutes Tammy removed it with pliers, mounted the bike on the stand, restored the chain, and got me on my way. No charge! Instead, I added to the tip jar. Simply incredible. I've also been in before with a bent wheel. $20 later it was trued. Same day service. For the new bike commuters on Caltrain, this is THE place to get the plastic destination tags. Just look for them on the wall next to the parking valet counter. I can't imagine life as a bicycle commuter without knowing there's a great bike shop when and where you need it. read more

Just bought a folding dahon d7 from here. It was either that or the downtube that they kept selling out of. They finally had a couple downtube bikes in and I came to test it out. Then did not force any sale for any brand and showed the pros and cons of each brand and bike. The salesman even told me some tips while riding and taking my bike on bart. My colleague has used Warm Planet for basic flat repair, and she has been consistently happy with service. I had a relatively last minute need to box up my bike for travel on an airplane. I inquired about the possibility w/ Lliam at Warm Planet to see if he could find time on the calendar to accomodate disassembling and packing my bike in my bike-box on Friday. In a matter of 48 hours, Lliam and the team at WP packed up my bike neatly, and delivered the box to me on time as they promised, all at a very reasonable rate ($25!). Whenever I'm in SF next time, I'll be sure to visit Warm Planet for my basic bike maintenance and packing needs. read more

Really friendly service at 8:30am when every other bike shop is closed. Kept having some issues with a repeated flat in the same wheel. I was at my last leg with figuring it out. Have you ever noticed how the bike lanes in SF are glassy? Like all sparkly? My tires have! I got a flat at lunch and took my bike in to the shop and they fixed it in minutes. I have a folding bike (Dahon Uno) so they even had the tube in stock. They are super helpful and fast. The prices are reasonable. They also have a great stock of folding bikes and accessories. Lets see, safety (Star) bike friendly (Star!) convenience (star) and friendly folks in front (Star again). Have to hold one back for the repair quality though, tried to get a chain fixed on one visit and a simple tune-up on another. Not the best quality, I'll stick with Pacific for that. Overall, this is a great addition to the neighborhood and a smart idea CalTrain folks might want to have at other stations as well. read more

These guys are pretty good at what they do and certainly care about their customers/reputation. I took two commuter bikes there several times for tune up, rear derailleur replacement, flats, and every time but once, they've done a superb job. The "once" happened was when I got a flat, dropped off my bike there in the morning, came back for it after work, paid whatever they charge for a flat repair ($10 I think), rushed out with the bike only to get another flat within seconds. So I had an issue with my tire, which they didn't notice the first time. They did replace the tire/tube right away, but charged me for both. I was kind of upset, but was super late at this point and there were tons of people waiting there so I didn't feel like making a scene. Anyway, so the next time I got a flat, I mentioned my previous experience when I was dropping my bike off (that was months after the bad experience), they had apologized, and did the work for free. What more can you ask for from a bike shop? read more

Bought a Dahon bicycle from Warm Planet Bikes when their store was located next to the Caltrain station. Had some issues with the tires and questions about a possible tune-up with the bike, so I e-mailed the shop. Kash replied promptly and advised me to go visit them. The shop is much bigger than the old location, but it's difficult to find parking during afternoon hours and the people hanging out in front of the check cashing place look shady...not the safest looking area. Kash provided great customer service and had me in and out of the store in less than 10 minutes. I appreciate the friendly customer service and good maintenance advice he gave me.
