Came here to get a couple things first Bob not sure how to spell his last name was very helpful and knowledgeable. Was pretty much the only one to be found. The manager Ed was as a little busy flirting with cashier. Also the dog food I was going to get expired in January of 2025 I mentioned that to Mgr but he seemed pre occupied. read more

So frequently with reviews you only get to see one side of the story. I feel terrible that my most favorite Ace has some horrid reviews. Not sure how people can say "they're more expensive" like it's a criminal offense. You're buying from an independent store of course it's not going to be as cheap as Menards or Home Depot. I love this place like they're my own family because they treat you with the respect you give them. I have seen the store manager Andy handle some of the nastiest customers you can imagine (likely the ones that left a bad review) with the utmost professionalism. Great Hardware store! Staff is always friendly and helpful! The store manager has personally helped me with so many projects! Truly the worst thing about moving away is that I won't always be able to go to him with help. Will definitely be stopping in from time to time though! Today I needed help with a project for my outdoor Halloween decorations. The employees here are so helpful and knowledgeable! I asked James for help building a scarecrow crossbar and he went to so much effort to make it perfect for me! He looked around everywhere for missing parts of a drill and ended up hammering the wood together by hand! Evan at the cashier is also friendly and knowledgeable about outdoor lights! read more

Exceptionally rude staff. Every time we go in. Plus they never have what you need in stock, and when they do it is more expensive that the other locations. I live in Warrenville but drive to the Wheaton store instead. Don't waste your time here. read more

I'm writing this review to express my disappointment in this store. On April 14th, I came to the store with a sliding screen door, to have a screen & outside handle replaced. At some point,one of the 2 Ace guys that were helping me broke the handle, & stated that I told him to take it apart. At some point, I. said that he was lying, & a shouting match ensued with the 2 Ace guys. So now, I'm waiting for the screen door handle broken by the Ace guy to be replaced (at a different location). I may have to get a whole new door, if the replacement handle isn't available. Zero stars for this business. read more

While I usually love Ace, I strongly recommended you STAY AWAY from this location! Store Manager wasn't wearing a mask and coughed the entire time (approx. 10 mins) I was there. I was shocked and inquired about the store policy when I was checking out. According to the cashier, the manager has a medical condition which does not allow him to wear a mask. I certainly sympathize with the circumstance, and don't consider myself the "mask police, however Ace should not allow him to be interacting directly with customers. read more

Been going to this Ace for over a decade. As a woman they never talk down to me. They have helped me with so many projects that I would have spent hundreds if not thousands to have an "expert" do. They have even helped me "hack" some fixes where the parts to fix an item are no longer made. I know most of the guys by name. My advice, go with the older guys working there. They know quite a bit more. The manager Andy, who is young is a really nice guy and is also extremely helpful. If I go to Home Depot or some other big box place there are really no all around handymen to help me figure out what I need. They are really just there to point you to the right aisle, then you are on your own. Plus I don't have to drive 6 miles. They are right there in my neighborhood. read more

I needed a tool to remove and replace grout, tried using a hand tool to start, took forever and did not do a good job, they recommended a Dremel with grout removal bit for a decent price, it did the job so much better. When I went back to get caulk, not only did a get a suggestion for caulk, but a discussion on how best to apply it. Last year, saw they had grills on sale, I was looking at one and Andy said the one I was looking at was the last one and he would sell me the display model at a discount. The deal was great for a Weber grill but I said I could not transport an all ready put together grill. No problem, we will deliver it at no charge. Love having a store that is local with available and friendly staff to help. read more

What a truly awful place this is. Drive 50 miles out of your way to go to any other hardware store. Their selection is barely existent. Their service goes to new depths of incompetence. Rude. Disrespectful. Not knowledgeable. Don't k ow their own inventory and inventory is so slim as to be non-existent. Never had a worse customer service experience than a recent visit here. Just terrible. It truly hurts to see the few reviews that are on here after nearly 14 years of this store being open are made by people who had one bad experience and the hundreds whom have sung praises don't take the time to review. I find it funny how people have noted that it's a small store with little inventory. Of course they don't have everything they are a hardware convenience store. They are meant to have the basics one needs for a variety of projects. If you need something and they don't have it just ask, odds are they can/will order it for you! I've been a patron for most of my life and sure there have been a few issues but overall the workers here DO know what they are talking about and in the few cases they don't they still try their best to learn. If not for you, for future customers. They've even sent me to a big box store to properly complete my project. Who in this day and age sends customers away? People that actually WANT to HELP. So if you need to lookup if this store is worth shopping and I implore you to stop by. Believe it or not this is a small independently owned business, which I'm sure is why one reviewer had a hard time returning items. I used to buy minnows here all the time...and they gave you a good pour. Now they have a kid with a ponytail that counts out the minnows in front of you, god forbid you get 13 minnows...anyone who has been going to bait shops knows, you buy a dozen, you get a scoop, if you get 15-16 no big deal, that's business, you have 2-3 that die on the way to the lake anyway. So, I confronted the "manager" and told him about this kid who feels it's good business to nickel and dime the customer and count your bait...he just says "oh well, go to another business" ...I will go somewhere else...this Ace has a 2-3 star rating, I can see why!! And, I'm not cheap by any means, it's the principle of the matter, don't nickle and dime me!! read more

Although this store may not have as wide of an inventory as some others, they can always order what you need and the staff is always friendly and ready to help. I have been a customer for over 10 years now and always received great service from them-- especially Andy & Danny. I like to shop locally owned and operated. The worst customer service is at the Warrenville, IL store. After shopping there for 20 years I will never go back again due to the incompetent staff and lack of inventory. This will be a loss not just for Ace, but other stores in that stripmall. All because I wanted to return a small can of Thompson's waterseal and a stain pad with a receipt that I purchased at another Ace. They dumbed around with three people, the most incompetent was the sloth of a manager, who wasted 10-12 minutes of my time telling me that they could only give me 9.99 instead of 10.99 for the waterseal and I said I would take the loss of a dollar, i just wanted a credit to get the supplies that I needed for my project. Then they didn't want to return the stain pad at all. If they would have just said the computer systems between stores wasn't compatible upfront, I could have lived with that. But they acted like I was a criminal and opened up the waterseal and hammered it back shut damaging the can and then not wanting to credit me for it with a receipt. If they had a modicum of customer service, they would have just apologized and said I needed to return it to Bukema's and I still would have bought the stuff I needed and dealt with the return later. Instead I drove 15 minutes and passed a Home Depot and Lowe's on the way back and they will be getting my business next time because I can exchange or return between stores with no problem with a receipt. Just close the Warrenville store. They have no stock and the employees are incompetent. Service like I experienced is killing your brand. read more

Really nice store to shop in. Your staff are always helpful. If I cannot find what I am looking for, they try to help. If the store does not have the product I am searching for they offer alternatives or get another staff me to add suggestions. Products do what staff tell me they will do.
