I visit the area monthly for a shopping trip at the local Goodwill. After one of my trips I discovered Wasabi House and I have been returning every time since. The restaurant is clean. The staff is welcoming and friendly. But the sushi is the star. My go to order is the Sushi Lunch and it wows me every time. The fish is so fresh and so flavorful. I had my best bite of tuna EVER right here. And I've eaten a lot of tuna in my day. My favorite part is that the chef curates omakase style sushi. They incorporate personality and seasonality which is truly refreshing to see in your average Japanese restaurant. This sets them apart from the rest. Can't wait for my next sushi lunch. Great service and great sushi! I'm so surprised to have a good sushi in central Jersey, normally stuff like this is solely reserved for near NYC or in NYC. I went for the lunch specials and got 2 lunch specials. I have to highlight the salmon sashimi as I think it was super creamy and yummy. I liked the unique flavors that they served even for a lunch special, my favorite being the yuzu salmon. The California rolls were also superb!! The only thing I would say is there being a little too much rice in the sushis making it hard to taste the fish. I also got a Botan ebi and requested the fried shrimp head to come with it and it was soooo good! I LOVE fried shrimp head and this hit the spot. They add a sweet savory sauce to it that gives it that extra flavor balancing out the oil from the fried shrimp head. The Botan ebi was also very creamy. Was around the area and in the mood for sushi. Found this on yelp read that it was under new management w/good reviews! Came here and ordered the recommended Nigi Toro Roll Omakase (HIGHLY RECOMMEND); ordered some sashimi; and 2 signature rolls. I over ordered but was SUPER DUPER HAPPY! Every piece I ate of the Omakase was just pure BLISS! Brought me joy! And gave me sooooo many smiles!!! Even as I sit here and write my review! Sushi Chef gave me an Ikura hand roll (sorry if it's not the correct term) and usually I don't order this but he wanted me to try it. It was SO GOOD! Wasn't fishy, wasn't the normal ikura / salmon eggs that you would get at other places. This had a distinct taste that was very subtle; the sweetness which wasn't overwhelming complemented the natural taste of the egg. There was a harmonious balance! I will only order Ikura from here! I would recommend to get it! Service was great! Waitress/host was super friendly and patient. Green tea was also good! Ambience is small and cozy! Love the colors on the wall as it brings calmness. Apparently WH is under new ownership, effective a few months ago, so I decided to give them another shot. I'm glad that I did. It was easy to order over the phone, pick up was pleasant...it was suggested that I come back, dine in, and try their always fresh sashimi (specifically the bluefin tuna). We ordered spring rolls, kani salad, California roll, and a few specialty rolls to go. They were all delicious. The only thing is that the sushi rice didn't have as much bite as I like, but that is my personal preference. I'm excited to try other things on the menu. read more

The ambiance is perfect for this sort of restaurant, I had the steak hibachi and my friend had the tuna lovers platter with gyoza to start. The steak was fantastic, the teriyaki(?) that was on it was some of the best I've had in recent memory, and the noodles were stir fried perfectly. We were there Saturday, late afternoon. The place in nicely decorated. Everyone was very pleasant and the woman who took care of us was very helpful. They took over 4 months ago. The food was incredibly fresh, good portions and delicious. We had the Dancing Shrimp appetizer. Beautiful large shrimp with a light fry, a little heat and a sweet sauce drizzle. Had the eel sashimi. So good. The Botan Ebi great crispness on the shrimp heads. The Dragon Roll and the Manhattan Roll. Even the soy sauce for dipping was special. We will be back! read more

They pride themselves on freshness and you can tell. They offer authentic sushi that is worth EVERY PENY. Wasabi House was 1 of my go to take out orders during COVID, but as they re opened for dine in, a few issues. My husband wanted beef negamaki but they were out of it on Friday so he ordered a soup w udon noodles which inexplicably came with soup and salad. He reported the broth didn't have much flavor and the chicken was just boiled, and no seafood. I ordered a tuna avocado roll, the tuna was in little pieces inside the roll. While it was fresh, this isn't what I had in mind. The salmon teriyaki was ok, decent but I've had better. Salmon was slightly overcooked. Prices for sushi rolls are higher than average, even basic rolls. I understand costs have gone up, but there are other places we like more. Service was fine and miso soup and salad are good. They don't have any desserts, FYI, not even ice cream. read more

There used to be a place in East Brunswick, NJ where you could get great sushi at a reasonable price. No more. Wasabi House on Tices Ln has new owners. The original Wasabi house was a gem - a great local establishment that provided excellent service and outstanding food at an affordable price. Alas, this is no more. The new owners upped the prices, lowered the portions, and made the experience unpleasant. The staff was rude and didn't know what was on their own menu. The sashimi portion was small, came with no rice, cost more than before, and included a few tiny packets of soy sauce. My wife and I spent almost $70 for what amounted to a few ounces of fish. On the plus side, the sushi and sashimi was of good quality, just much more expensive for a much smaller portion. Maybe this is growing pains and the new owners will figure out what kept the original Wasabi House open for over 3 decades with a very faithful following. Until then, there are lots of similar establishments in the area that I will be trying. read more

I stopped by once for lunch. It's right off route 18 on Tices Lane. I would say to stick with the sushi which is good. I wouldn't opt for the bento boxes. Excellent food. I only order the sashimi regular whenever I visit. It is plentiful and it comes with soup and salad. The sashimi is so fresh and cut into great portions. I've been to a few where their pieces are on the thin side. Very clean and service is impeccable. BYOB in case you want to drink. If you come by a party of single to four, you will get seating fairly quickly. If you have more, then you a wait. My only comment is that it is a small place. They have pretty decent sushi. It's not out of this world but it's good. I really enjoyed their mango roll and fire roll. The mango roll had the crunch in it with lobster salad and it was divine! It was topped with fresh mangos and added freshness to the whole roll. As for appetizer, I got the black seaweed salad with fishcakes. I wrote a review for this place before, but deleted it since it wasn't from a recent experience. Decided to give this place another shot today, as we did takeout! The sushi is very good, if a little bit heavy! I got the vegetable sushi platter, which is cucumber avocado, mushroom avocado, and sweet potato roll. The sweet potato roll was good. They make the sweet potato nice and crunchy. I gave the mushroom avocado, to my friend, because she likes mushrooms, and I don't. The cucumber avocado was more on the heavy side, but still very delicious. The sushi comes with a salad. The salad was good, but it could be tossed better. Felt more like the staff dumped a bunch of veggies into the bowl, and called it a day! I wasn't crazy about the dressing! Overall, was this better than last time? Yes! My favorite sushi restaurant? Not sure if food is good here but I've heard it is. Stopped in today to try and get a donation for my schools fundraiser. I walked in and man behind prep counter abruptly asked what I wanted. As I started to say why I was here he abruptly said "NO!" before I could finish. I repeated back to him "no" and again rudely said "NO!" I then left the establishment. I hope of you come in there to buy anything he's more pleasant and friendly. If your there to try and help your community, a community that supports their establish as well-as their family, you should be nicer. Not saying you have to give to everyone but it's smart economics and good business practice to donate to your community. If you give a $20 give certificate, most likely the recipient is going to spend a lot more and if your food is good, they're going to tell their friends and so on an so forth increasing your clientele and bolstering your finances. I wish this was a better restaurant. The menus are created on a copy machine using cellophane jackets and binders from staples. The choices are typical of a sushi restaurant. Service is barely ok and they could use a few more servers at peak times. I placed a takeout order for over $100. Wasabi House has some interesting and tasty rolls you wont find elsewhere. My favorite is the chewy roll. We started going to Wasabi House when we lived in Princeton. I would consider myself a bit of a sushi snob, quality of fish obviously being the top factor. I'm not going to be rating the hot entrees as some people do when they are reviewing a sushi restaurant. We go for the sushi/fresh fish and nothing else. We have loved every sushi dinner at Wasabi House. I think I can honestly say I have never had a complaint about any pice of sushi there. It is a higher grade of fish than other sushi places for typically a cheaper price. The owner/sushi chef, Tony, is great and always talks to us and makes recommendations. The service is great. The sushi pieces are always much bigger than other places also. You don't get a thin sliver of fish on top of a big pile of rice. A few recommendations - the volcano roll is a salmon roll with a pile of spicy tuna and some crunch on top. I think it's $10. It is worth double. So good. The hotate roll is a must with scallop and scallions. This roll has a huge piece of scallop in it. Recently on vacation we ordered a scallop roll and could barely see the scallop it was so small. Our other favorite is the yellowtail handroll. The yellowtail is always so fresh and the seaweed is toasted and crispy. Most other places we go these days (outside of NYC or Philly) are a disappointment after becoming a regular at Wasabi House. We will continue to drive back there even though we moved further away.
