We have eaten here several times over the years. Not sure what happened this evening but service and meal was under par. One of the plates was undercooked, waited ten minutes for waitress and went to find someone. 15 minutes later the plate came back charred with no follow up. W have dried here many times over the last few years, most recently as last night. The food is very good as always, but the server was informative but rather perfunctory, likely due to the crowd. They do not have a bar area for patrons to stand, and there were 2 tables where the men stood around, to close to other tables with drinks in hand, talking loudly. f I could give The Wash House 10 stars, I would! This place is just amazing. We went for our anniversary, and from the second we walked in, it felt special. They had champagne waiting for us (not sure how that was set up, but it was such a nice surprise), and they even brought out some appetizers on the house. I had the steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus--everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I also had some kind of mint drink (wish I remembered the name) and it was so refreshing. This was my second time dining here, and it somehow got even better. It's in a historic building that's full of character--classic Southern charm with cool old tools and decor everywhere. It feels fancy but still comfortable. Yes, the prices are definitely up there, but honestly, it's worth every penny for a special night. Can't recommend it enough! read more

We just love this place! Our favorite restaurant in Fairhope. Just 5 stars all around. Highly recommend the smoked watermelon bruschetta and the oyster lettuce wraps to start. The bruschetta dish was on another level. We then moved on to the entrees. The chateaubriand last night was exquisite and the scallops were a hit, as well. We had a very special private event at the Wash House in the Lodge room. There were 53 guests in our group. Our dinners were delicious, cooked to perfection, and many of the guests commented that the food was amazing. The ambience was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly, efficient, and served everyone, including those at the bar very quickly. They were all amazing. Management was fantastic to work with. It was unbelievable that the meals were served all at the same time and the hot food was still was hot. Salads were cold, crisp, and fresh, Steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned. One guest commented that the steak was better than Ruth Chris'. The Bearnaise sauce was out of this world. The catch of the day was delicious and everything was seasoned to perfection. Great anniversary dinner. Started with the gumbo and Brie appetizer. It was amazing the Brie could have been set over the top with a sweet drizzle of maybe honey or something of a thin slice of pear. The gumbo was perfect great roux and full of protein. I got the fresh catch redfish it was flavor and juicy and delicious and my wife got the filet juicy and tender. Niman Ranch Pork Shank sweet potato gnocchi, local mushrooms, fried onion, brussel sprouts, honey bourbon cider glaze ** My husband loved this; however, I do not see this on their menu currently. Herb and Parmesan Orzo ** This was a side dish that went with their special of the night; however, we requested some of this with our meals and they happily obliged! I love a herbaceous risotto! Dinner was sooooooooo great !! Requested to be sat away from everyone and in a quiet area and they did an outstanding job of accommodating that request. The food was so good. That being said, let's talk about the Wash House Restaurant in Point Clear Alabama. Hospitality is essential for a satisfying dining experience. We arrived 1/2 hour early for our 7:30 reservation on a Saturday evening. The Wash House was packed. The various dining rooms were full of conversation and laughter. The Host Wyatt could not have been kinder. He obviously did his due diligence. He knew our names and preferences. We were escorted to a side bar while our table was prepared and we were given a complementary glass of wine for the short wait. We felt valuable and cared for. The food was special. Their kitchen staff must work together like a military operation. So many covers, such good quality, such consistency. The star of our first visit was the Chateaubriand. We shared this dish along with the fresh, crisp, well dressed Wash House Salad. Perfect! Frances, our Server, kept a caring eye on us without being obvious or rushing us through our evening. On our second visit we chose to dine at the small, cozy bar. Best for people watching and to engage other diners. The stars of this visit were the Chateaubriand, yes again couldn't help ourselves, the Day Boat Scallops, beautifully seared with sweet succulent flesh, and the Fried Oyster appetizer, lightly battered, crisp exterior, creamy oysters wrapped in buttery lettuce. I was incredibly underwhelmed. My party of 2 arrived at the same time as a party of 5. 2 guests were waiting, and 4 guests were leaving. It was mayhem at the door. As another reviewer mentioned yesterday, there is no acknowledgement of the special occasion listed on Open Table. The service was not expedient or personal. The front aisle of tables directly across from the hostess stand felt like the kids' table. Our view was of a storage pod and a port-a-potty. (For our anniversary dinner which, again, was not acknowledged.) The worker cleaning and resetting tables was a bit heavy-footed, and our table shook each time she ran by. The ambiance was more girls-night-out than intimate dining. The bread was warm. The butter was soft and delicious. The specialty cocktails were very good. The stars stop there. The table across from us was seated after we arrived. Still, they had drinks, salad, and dinner long before we did. They tabbed out before our entrees even came out. When our food was served, drain flies appeared at our table. No one stopped to check on our table, so it could not be addressed. The server recognized that I didn't care for my entree and comped a dessert. It was also lackluster. (A slice of cheesecake haphazardly thrown side-down on the plate; the whipped cream and chocolate/caramel drizzle hastily applied.) No one asked if we'd visited before or even thanked us for coming. My sister-in-law threw her husband a surprise 40th Birthday Party here about couple weeks ago. I loved how the Wash House had menus made especially for our party. There was an adult menu and a special menu for kids. The service and food was phenomenal. All of the adults had the Wash House Salad, which I really enjoyed. The candied pecans and golden raisins really added an extra zest to the salad. I do not eat pork regularly, but the Pork Osso Bucco was amazing! The fish came with polenta and brussel sprouts that were so delicious! I normally have leftovers, but I didn't that night. My husband had the 8 ounce filet and he let me try a bite.
