I found Washington Elite Dentistry by researching places that specialize in sedation dentistry, since the dentist causes me some anxiety. I told them about my anxiety and they were so incredibly kind and understanding. Ive told all my friends they treated me like a child, but it was so nice!!!! I really appreciated it. I went to this dentist to get a second opinion on two crowns (see why I have anxiety?) which my previous dentist wanted to fix, and this dentist only recommended replacing one . They have a lot of high tech equipment, and this is by far the best crown I've had done so far. I'm very impressed with their work. I read a bunch of the negative reviews about insurance issues, and I have not had the same experience. Maybe they've fixed the issues or it is a personal insurance thing, because they were on the phone with my insurance company while I was there and I've received no surprise bills. read more

I just went in for my initial evaluation and cleaning. The process went fine but I was surprised by extra payments at the end when they told me that everything was included and covered by my Delta insurance. Apparently I had some calculus that required additional work which resulted in the extra charge but no one told me about this during the cleaning, even though I asked "is this included?" every step of the way. The billing person at the end also tried to tell me that with this additional fee to clean calculus (roughly $60), insurance might deny the cleaning so I might be sent a bill for that ($53) by insurance (what?) I insisted that made no sense as cleaning was explicitly covered by insurance, but said was willing to pay the calculus cleaning charge since it seemed legit. I now fear that I shouldn't even have paid for that. The whole thing made me not trust the clinic. If you are not familiar with insurance or a naturally shy person, I would suggest that you would need to step outside your comfort zone to visit this place for the billing conversation. read more

Between my wife and I we paid over $14,000 for Invisalign. My wife's claim being processed but will not get our full reimbursement. We should be getting at least half reimbursement. Due to this office's incompetence, they do a unsatisfactory job or making a claim. Let alone appealing a denied claim. Again, I would avoid this place at all costs. If you are dependent on insurance avoid this place. Because they will charge you up front and after they have your money. Don't follow up on getting your insurance claim. I started using this dentist shortly after moving to DC because of the convenient location. However, each time I visited, they claimed I needed all kinds of dental work. For example, on one of my last visits, they claimed I needed 5-7 fillings. They also tried to sell me night guards and made me feel bad for saying that I wasn't interested. It's like going to a used car salesman instead of a dentist. Incidentally, I switched dentists, and the new dentist says I don't need any fillings at all. I'll also add that I think the cancellation policy is ridiculous. In the middle of COVID, they sent an all-caps email saying that if you don't cancel by Thursday before a Monday appointment, they will take $50 from you. I find that to be insensitive and unethical. There are much better dentists not far from here. I recommend trying them first. read more

I recommend staying away from this practice. I don't believe they are trustworthy. I also echo Carson J's review, which began with: "My first cleaning went fine. However, when the dentist came in she pushed $500 worth of sealants on my teeth. I told her I would need to check with my insurance and was going to hold off for the time being since this was the first time I had been approached about sealants." My daughter went to the practice today for a cleaning. She is 23 and never had a cavity as an adult. A new dentist saw her and summarily pronounced that she needed sealants. The doctor then said the "sales rep" would be in to speak with her about it. We later learned that the "sales rep" is the practice's billing coordinator. Though not a healthcare professional, the billing coordinator told my daughter the advantages of having the sealants, including that her adult son had recently re-done his. I am troubled that a non-healthcare professional was providing healthcare advice. When my daughter suggested that perhaps she would do it next time, she was told that now was the time to do it. Thinking that there was medical urgency, she agreed. She was quoted a price that insurers will pay at $58 per tooth. Given that my daughter's insurance won't cover it, they dropped the price to $34 per tooth. This was presented to her as a $400 saving. My daughter had to ask what the actual price was, which was over $550. I imagine insurers would not pleased to hear about these tactics. It is distressing that this practice took advantage of a young person, who on a government salary could not easily afford unnecessary expensive and unreimbursed procedures. read more

I went in for a teeth cleaning and my gut was saying maybe this is not the best idea to go here because the woman at the front desk was not wearing a mask. Then they had me sign a paper saying that I understand the risk for teeth cleaning and catching Covid is high. I had a trip that got moved and is tomorrow so I waited to talk with the dentist when I got to the dental exam room since the front desk woman had no mask on. I explained my predicament with my international flight and he was nice and offered to change my appointment to when I get back. I started going here after moving to DC from California. Every time I go, they find "cavities" and up-sell all kinds of expensive treatments. I noticed that every time I go, I'm coming back the following week for some follow up. Then I noticed that almost every time I pay, I get more bills in the mail. The first few times, I just I paid them. Then I started paying attention and stuck to my refusal to pay a $90+ bill for an X-ray that they promised insurance would cover (I know that I expressly asked if it would be covered and was told yes and reiterated that I could have my old records sent over and did not want an X-ray if insurance didn't cover it). As I worried would happen, I was later sent a bill for the imaging. I emailed and called a few times, but no one responded, finally, during the peak of COVID when they really needed patients to come in, I responded to a txt saying I would not be coming back until someone responded to my request for the balance to be removed, as I was told insurance would cover the X-ray. They immediately cleared my balance and apologized (to get me to make another cleaning appointment). Upon going back I was told that I had several cavities and presented with a treatment plan. I agreed to come in. I was offering the opportunity to make an appointment with Dr. B or a new dentist with the practice. I insisted on Dr. B and we spoke at length about the importance of getting this all done in one visit as I had examinations coming up and couldn't spare more time. I confirmed that the appointment would take 1.5 hours and would be with Dr. B. When I came in for my follow up, Dr. B was not my dentist. It was the new dentist. 2.5 hours later, and a LOT of drilling (which honestly made me wonder if there were actually holes to fill or if they were making new ones), I was told that the dentist was unhappy with his work and I'd have to come back so that he could drill it out and re-do it! And that he couldn't get to all the work and still had a cavity to fill. I also left with my bite completely off and unaligned. I was SHOCKED. This isn't a student clinic, this is an actual dentist office!! I called or emailed and the team arranged for me to come in shortly thereafter at COB. I insisted on seeing Dr, B. When I arrived I was told she was leaving for vacation and the assistants all were ready to go home and they could only repair the work and couldn't finish the work that was quoted, and should have been finished in my last visit. They said I'd have to come back when she is back from holiday. I was LIVID, and insisted it all be done in this visit and while it was rushed, it was done. I was told I wouldn't be billed for the fix, but sure enough a bill later showed up (not surprising at this point). I called and fought the bill and after SEVERAL phone calls and emails the balance was removed. Since then, I've had pain every time I eat sweets. I've thought about going back but at this point I'm exhausted from having to advocate for myself with every visit and every bill. I just can't do it, it's not fair and it shouldn't be like this. Dr. B is incredibly kind, but with the ongoing issues and profit seeking behaviors I've seen, I worry about the quality. Especially given how rushed the fix was and how clear I was that my appointment would be with Dr. B. In hindsight, I do feel like the whole thing was a bait and switch and do wish that I had just insisted on seeing Dr. B that day as promised instead of allowing any other situation. It's a New Year and I'm excited my insurance has rolled over. Im going to get a second opinion and hopefully get the pain to stop in the teeth that the other dentist there worked on. I've always had very good teeth with no issues. I'm sad that I didn't trust my gut and insist on having Dr. B for the last series of appointments all the way through, and i am sad that I feel I have to advocate for myself at my dentist. Unfortunately, this isn't the practice for me right now. It's been a $1500 nightmare that required hours of my time, well beyond what I was promised or should have reasonably had to invest. I'm just exhausted and sad over it all, and my teeth are actually sensitive and pained. I'm excited to get it all fixed and to get back on track. They also said that they also were shocked to see the office add a pulp cap to my treatment plan as it was completely unnecessary even if I did need fillings. They ask to collect what they expect your payment responsibility to be before your appointment AND before submitting to insurance for review and payment. I advised that this is not the normal practice for dental offices and couldn't be provided an explanation outside of 'this is what what we do.' I asked my coworker that referred me and he said that they've never asked this of him. Their practices are INCREDIBLY suspicious and I would advise anyone to pass on this dental office...the office is mediocre at best with subpar services from the dentist (Terri was the only great part of the experience). Dr. Berman suggested a great course of treatment to help me deal with grinding at night, replaced all my old fillings, and she did some repair work to two teeth were damaged by erosion. I used to really like coming to this office -- so much so, in fact, that I would tell my friends that I was looking forward to visiting the dentist and being seen by Terri, one of the hygienists, and Dr. Berman -- but unfortunately my most recent experience had made it such that I can't recommend it to others anymore. For several years, I recommended this office because of on-time appointments, the friendliness of Terri and Dr. Berman, and a general sense that my teeth were being well looked after. During my most recent visit, I was assigned to work with a different hygienist who was very unprofessional and, quite frankly, rude and condescending to me. I decided to just move on and find another dentist; when the front desk asked me if I wanted to schedule another appointment, I said simply, "No, thank you." Within 48 hours, I'd been called and emailed and told that they'd booked another appointment for me -- which is exactly what I did *not* want, and I certainly didn't want to be charged for an appointment I didn't consent to making. I called the office to ask them to cancel the appointment and reminded them that I had said I didn't want to reschedule. It seemed to me like bad business practice, and I won't go back. read more

Wow I wished I read the reviews here before I went to this practice. My dental cleaning had me laying flat on my back, sometimes my head lower than my legs with no sunglasses, so my position was quite uncomfortable. I was asked to hold the dental suction cord which was never necessary before. I got glowing reviews on my cleaning as my scores were high. Then the dentist comes in and with her back to me starts writing everything I need on the computer. She never asked if I wanted Invisalign, just told me I needed it. By the time I got to the front desk to discuss my treatment plan, with everything the dentist said I 'needed', they were asking close to $6000 from me! For optional procedures. I'm sorry but after this, I would never trust her to believe I had a cavity. A cavity reading is subjective and when a dentist is clearly trying to pad their pocket with a first time client, I would assume they are trying to ruin my teeth by working on them. Look everyone doesn't "need" Invisalign, google says it's not good to move the jaw in adults; and people have lots of complications from Invisalign. Plus it's a huge annoyance wearing top and bottom plastic trays everyday and retainer for life. My teeth are 95% straight. I can afford it but was so put off by their approach that I recoiled. You don't just type into a computer that a patient needs it, you inquire if it is something that might interest them, no, then drop it. It's like she was rubbing her hands together trying to figure out what she could get me to spend on. The next time I came in for a cleaning, the tech also asked if I wanted invisalign and pushing a night guard on me, guess they are paid on commission. Look I haven't been living on the street for the last 10 years. I have been getting regular dental cleanings and care for my teeth at home. I had to sit with Michelle for 45 MINUTES afterwards to go over what I needed, she really had no business answering technical questions but did so anyway. At the end of her pitch she asked if I had any questions. I thought oh wow I'm allowed to ask questions now because when I did previously she always answered rudely with "I just explained that to you". Actually no I would ask her a very specific question that would require a one sentence answer and she would give me a 10 minute round about answer that didn't answer my specific question. Then she closed her pitch telling me they were running a special on Invisalign that would expire very soon if I didn't lock in the price. I knew right then and there it's a scam. First I know how much invisalign costs because my last dentist pitched it to me and it was HALF the price she was quoting. In a medical facility, you shouldn't have to act fast for a deal, prices should be fixed otherwise it feels scamy. Michelle told me that Dr. Berman is considered a top dentist. And I thought by who? Her peers that have never sat in her chair but rated her? Or by the fact that she has a lot of expensive equipment and thus is considered cutting edge? The dentist wore a fancy ppe/ motorcycle helmet for my exam. She told me she wanted to give me a panoramic x-ray and google said it wasn't necessary and can be more dangerous for the radiation. But maybe they can charge my insurance more for it? Michelle said Dr. Berman had a gentle hand for work, well I hope she does since her practice has no oversight and she's doing lots of extra invasive work on people. I went in for my routine cleaning and my hygienist recommended doing some preventative stuff to avoid future cavities. She told me it would be 32 dollars. Then afterwards at the reception when I was ready to pay for it. "Oh it's actually 32 dollars PER TOOTH, so it's actually 224 dollars please!" WTF. OK you can say I was being too naive but it doesn't change the fact that they just intentionally mislead me to make more money. Definitely do not recommend. Update: I found it funny that the office on the one hand claim that they can check their record to show that there was no misinformation, and on the other hand also claims that information might be lost in communication. They are obsessed with preventing liability but take no precautions to keep patients safe. Any office that obsessed with waivers has clearly had issues! It is filthy and unsafe. DO NOT GO HERE. I went for three different visits, thinking each time would get better, and they never did. They use temp hygienists who have no idea what they're doing. One time I didn't even see the dentist at all. I asked why, and they said, oh if you want to, we'll bring her in but you're good. I'm at the dentist and not going to see the dentist?... Then, for my last appointment, I need to cancel the DAY BEFORE. I had not gotten any appointment reminders up until the day before, and then was informed when I got the reminder the day before that I would be charged a fee for canceling late. I figured ok $25, sure. THE FEE WAS $100. That is ridiculous. The office was completely unhelpful and disinterested in understanding the situation, especially having not gotten any reminders. She is clinically an incredible dentist but her office has become completely profit driven and there is no way I can trust the quality of care from this provider anymore. After paying a large chunk of money for a bridge, I attempted to confirm an appointment for a routine cleaning- only to have the office benefits manager barge in aggressively and hand me yet another bill for..... something? This was prior to even doing any xrays or seeing the dentist to evaluate the current state of my dental health. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I would prefer someone with some clinical training to explain to me why I need all these procedures. As an adult who is a baby when it comes to going to the dentist, this place has been my saving grace. I went to other dentists in DC and there is just no comparison. It's the first time I feel safe and heard. It's the first time any dentist takes my anxiety seriously without making me feel bad (Mr. squishy always there if you need it). The hygienists are wonderful, the front desk staff are super nice, and Dr. Berman is so sweet and gentle. I love love love them all. I've been coming here for two years now, and I just finished my Invisalign. I did the propel option with Invisalign and couldn't be happier with how fast my teeth moved, and the service I got. It was worth every penny. I was done within 5 months, which is insane since my teeth were legitimately really crooked. All in all, would definitely recommend. In fact I tell everyone I know about them, especially everyone that tells me they are considering Invisalign. read more

I went to Washington Elite for a simple cleaning/ check up (which is 100% covered by my insurance) and ended up owing $75. How you ask? Good question! As it turns out they did a "special deep cleaning" without first asking permission. I should have gone with my gut at the time but I needed a crown , and fast before it was a total root canal situation. I had the work done to prepare the tooth for said crown and was told to expect a call within the two weeks. I did not get a call and ended up calling them after the two week mark to check in to schedule the next apt. I paid in FULL when I left and then recieved a call saying my bill was possibly going to collections and I quote " give us a call before this gets uncomfortable for either one of us". Turns out my insurance hadn't processed a claim which resulted in what looked like an unpaid balance. After about a month of me calling and finally stopping in to the office to clarify my bill was finally resolved. When seen I was also told I had 4 cavities, needed to get a gum transfer treatment for my teeth, and corrective treatment to straighten my teeth. When told about my not-so-higballer financial situation they directed me to an in office credit card! I don't remember there credit situation but it felt pretty uncomfortable. When I finally followed up with another dentist she said none of the above work was necessary. Overall I felt swindled by Washington Elite Dental. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT think twice about whether these Yelp reviews are worth ignoring for a visit to this office. This place has all the bells and whistles of a fancy, upscale doctor's office. The receptionists wear matching polos, the lobby looks fancy, and they offer to enter you into a raffle for a free teeth whitening if you leave a review on Yelp. I've since shared this story with three different friends at random and they've all been able to guess that it was Washington Elite Dentistry AND they each had terrible experience there too!!! Just heard of another friend of mine that had a terrible experience so I decided to finally share my experience. My first visit here was nothing terrible (in summer of 2016). I hadn't been to a dentist in two years so I was prepared for some bad news. I had a few cavities and naturally, my molars have some deep crevices, so they suggested sealants. Sealants would cost me since I'm an adult and normally would not be covered by my dental insurance (only child molars are covered typically). I told them I'd get two of my more at risk molars covered wth sealants and along with my fillings, leave it at that for now. When I came back for my fillings, they told me that they worked it out with my insurance so they would pay a percentage of the sealant cost (what a child's would cost) and I would pay the difference. I agreed to this, saw documentation of the future charges, and signed off on them. I get all the work done on my mouth and give them a credit card for the costs I signed off on. Pricey but it seemed worth it. A few weeks later I get a bill in the mail from my insurance company saying they never agreed to the charges that my dentist was claiming. I stupidly did not get a copy of that piece of paper I signed off on at the dentist which had the promised charges. I contacted the dentist and they had no recollection of what had happened, the so-called documentation from my insurance company that is signed, etc. On top of this, one of my fillings never felt right. To this day, it is super sensitive. I called to address the discomfort after my filling (before all this billing drama) and the receptionist was so rude, basically telling me it takes time to adjust to the pain and there isn't much they could do except get me in for an appointment in two weeks. SMH. Want more drama? I mentioned that three other friends had terrible problems here. One of them was fitted for a mouth guard she never knew she needed (she thought they were taking a mold of her mouth to go along with the x-rays or something) and then they billed her something outrageous for the mouth guard! Dr. Berman, and her staff, at Washington Elite Dentistry is amazing! I needed a new dentist when I moved to the area in 2015, and Dr. Berman was right by my office. I scheduled an appointment and was able to see Terrie, my dental hygienist. Before my consultation, I was shown the office, and I have to say it is one of the cleanest medical facilities I've ever seen. Terrie then took my x-rays, talked to me about my dental history, and completed my cleaning. I had 2 cavities, so I was scheduled to come back in a week to see Dr. Berman. She listened to my fear of pain and told me everything she was going to do. She constantly checked on me, and made sure I was comfortable. I didn't feel a thing! I was asked if I'd ever had braces, and Dr. Berman explained Invisalign in a very kind, non-pushy way. I had been thinking of straightening my teeth for years, so I asked for all the information. I was given an appointment in a 2 weeks, at which time I could decide to go forward or cancel the plan. I went for it, but I know I wouldn't have felt gulity if I decided to say no. Dr. Berman has made sure I'm on track and has listened to all of my concerns and questions along the way. I was fitted for my refinement trays last month, and just went to the office yesterday for my fitting. It was time consuming, but I never felt like Dr. Berman was rushing to get to another patient. This practice is slipping. I have had a ton of work done here and I was traveling from my home near Mount Vernon in Alexandria just to visit this office. Most recently I had Invisalign done here, and the results? Don't waste your time or money. I paid about $4,500 for this service and my teeth aren't perfect, and Dr. Berman and her staff don't really care. I am a realtor and have a flexible schedule, I feel this office took advantage of that and pushed me around a bit in terms of appointments and results -- I am very easygoing despite this review. She has had multiple turnovers in office managers so its always someone new. The retainer delivery was late, my teeth started slipping back and then they cancelled an essential appointment. (Michelle, the newest manager, called my cell phone at 7:30 a.m. the day of!) then called me again, then didn't return my call to confirm if I did in fact have an appointment that day, only to put me with another dentist in the office I had never worked with. She had absolutely NO idea what my dental history was. The whole staff included the guy I was working with decided to leave for lunch, I was left sitting in the chair for an hour and 40 minutes. He said he would be "right back" and literally never returned. Oh, did I mention they held onto $1,500+ of money paid out by my insurance company that I had to struggle to collect 3 months later? Had a horrible experience dealing with Michelle on that too. I don't know what happened to Nicole, but I liked dealing with her better. Best part? I got charged for EVERY single thing this office has ever done, not even a discount on my teeth whitening post Invisalign -- which according to the staff in previous visits is usually complimentary. Dr. Berman and her team are great! I've been seeing them for years, and have never gotten anything but the best care. Terri is an amazing hygienist, and she always gives me careful, customized cleanings. When I was interested in Invisalign, Dr Berman sat with me and explained the whole process and what I could realistically expect. Because of her skill and care, my teeth look 1000% better then before. Washington Elite Dentistry has some capable dental hygienists and assistants and lots of impressive new technology, however the experience is ruined by constant and relentless upselling. It makes it impossible to know when they are recommending procedures/products that I actually need. I draw the line at the front desk staff lecturing me on needing some kind of sealant procedure that my hygienist hadn't even mentioned or recommended, and then sarcastically telling me "well if you want to get more cavities" when I replied that I was not interested and simply wanted to check out. read more

My allegation: THIS PLACE IS A RIP-OFF. If I could give negative stars I would do so. I have visited several times and have paid what I have been told is the balance of what my insurance will not cover. I assumed I was being told the truth by staff who entered information into a computer and told me "X is what your insurance will pay and Y is what you owe us today." I should have definitely checked Yelp before I sat in that dental chair! Were they retaliating because I would not purchase the Invisalign adult braces they were relentlessly trying to sell me on my first visit? Or perhaps staff is taught to only pretend to consult with your insurance company to tell you what you owe so you will go ahead and get a service only to get unexpected bills in the mail months later? I will continue to research and dispute my bill but wanted to post this as a warning for those of you who come to Yelp before you go to a DC dentist. I am sure there are many other dentists in the DC Metro area who do excellent work and are up front about costs and what they are billing. I plan on finding one and suggest anyone who might go to Elite because of the great location and easy appointment making do the same. read more

Had a wonderful cleaning experience at Elite Dental. Located downtown, the office is on the main lobby floor left corridor once you stepped inside the 555 building. L300 does not mean 3rd floor. You will not be able to access that floor on elevator. I was warmly greeted by Jen who made the check in process extremely smooth and efficient. I waited no more than 2 minutes from the time I arrived and gave them my insurance card (since I had filled out my paperwork already on their online portal) to being in the dental seat. It was the fastest check in process I've ever had with barely any wait time at a dental office. 3PM meant 3PM. Amazing! Next, the cleaning was done by Terri who explained every process to me and was gentle and thorough with my cleaning. Highly recommend her for those who want a pleasant cleaning experience. Dr. Berman also dropped in before cleaning to examine my X-rays and share her thoughts on some dental work I had inquired about. Really appreciated her honest opinion without any pressure. I have been a client of Washington Elite Dentistry for about 6 months now and have decided never to go back. I have almost never had a good experience there. They were recommended after I broke a temp crown. I went in specifically for that but for some reason they decided to work on a couple tiny cavites for TWO visits before getting around to my broken tooth. Once they finally got around to the broken tooth it was several more visits until that was resolved. I will give them a pass on one of those visits because there was a fire in the building during one of my sessions and we had to evacuate the building, but everything else was their fault. They never seemed to finish what they were supposed to be doing. I was due for a check-up on my crown (that they finally finished) and a cleaning. I had decided beforehand that this would be my last visit. I had some cleaning done, then the Dentist came in to give me an exam and sent me home. On my way home they began calling me over and over but I decided not to pick up because I was waiting for a train. Once home I listened to the messages. Turns out that they had not finished my cleaning and wanted me to come back. I'll go get that cleaning done somewhere else because I will never be going back there. I had already decided not to go back, but this really sealed it, completely summing up my experience with them. The reception staff has always been completely inept and slightly rude here and there. While I was waiting to start my last appointment they were even arguing with another client on the phone. Also, I don't think there was a single I had where they did not call me to see if I wanted to come in early. No, I don't want to change my appointment. I made my appointment on a certain day and a certain time for a reason. read more

This is the best dentist I've been to in my life. I travel from Puerto Rico just to see Dr. Berman and her staff. Everyone is extremely professional and friendly. The office is very clean, nicely decorated and the customer service is also excellent. Its also obvious to see that they have the top technology. My issue with my appointment was I felt like I was being sold something at every turn. I have been going to the dentist for several years and have always taken care of my teeth and to be told I need 3 things that would cost me about $4500 was new to me! Amazing staff. Incredible work. I was very nervous and apprehensive. Over the years, numerous dentist and endodontists have messed my mouth up. I became petrified of the "white coat." Dr. Berman and her staff eased my fears, worked diligently and patiently with a big ol' cry-baby and began reconstructing my mouth. We are still in the process of reconstruction and the process is going very well and I am very, very pleased with every procedure so far. The experience and knowledge of the most advanced treatments and products at this facility is beyond anything I could imagine.
