I normally don't do laundry on Sundays, but I decided to at the last minute and ended up in Washland since many machines elsewhere were occupied. This place has plenty of machines available, which is great. However, they don't accept Apple Pay or credit cards, which is a big inconvenience. You also need to purchase their laundry card in cash to use the machines. Their price points are weird... none of them are by standard quarter increments. Their large load is $8.59, medium is $7.29, and small is $4.59, and their dryers are by 35 cents increments. This time it was a short I wear often and pillow case and more, and found several pieces that are not mine (returned). All I get was "sorry I didn't know what happened". Washland is a bad laundromat. I've been washing my clothes here for a couple of years now. They have raised the prices often, and in turn I've received bad service. The machines are rusted and dirty, and they may even have mold in them. Sometimes the machines don't work, the attendant has to come by with a butter knife and and wiggle the coin slot to get the machine to take your money. When I asked the attendant for help, they said "gimme money" and took my quarters from me. Excuse me!? "gimme money"?? No. How about you learn some manners, and start to run a proper business. I don't know how it's always so crowded given how much it sucks. I often have to wait for dryers, since many of them are out of order. Several customers bring their herds of children while doing laundry and there are always tons of kids running and screaming around, playing in the clothing carts, and being a nuisance. Really wanted to enjoy the delivery service instead of lugging my laundry up and down my 5 flight walkup, so I decided to call this place on Monday for a wash and fold delivery. Don't enjoy writing 3 start reviews, but they promised me same day laundry and then did not end up bringing it. On top of that, on Tuesdays, they don't do deliveries, so I had to go pick it up and lug it back on my own. Really wish the communication was more clear that it would not be done same day and that it wouldn't be delivered the next day either. I'm a neighborhood guy, lived in HK since 1996. That's also the length of time I've been going to Washland. It's got its charm, a nice way of saying it's a bit rustic. They treat me and my clothes to the very best of their ability though their equipment is mostly shitty. I've no proof, but when I do my own, I feel like the rinse cycle should rinse better. No I do not overuse the detergent . When I drop off, my laundry is always well folded and ready pretty quickly. But the shining star is a small statured Latina. She's smiles and always treats me with warmth and kindness. The only way she'd improve is if my laundry was free. Lol I really should ask her name. My bad. And I agree with other reviews that the blonde lady that seems to be in charge is a bit rushed and comes off rude. When offered a suggestion of having a sink that customers could use , like they used to, she basically ignored me choosing to focus on the coins, I'm guessing , she was counting. read more

I hate giving bad reviews but this place deserves it. I live right next door and have been going here for nearly 10 years. Not because I want to or enjoy going, but because it's right next to my building. While the place is clean, the staff is downright horrible. They finally got rid of the mean Asian woman. Before her there was an equally mean Dominican woman. The woman working there not is friendly enough, but never helpful in any way. Whenever I have a question or problem she suddenly doesn't know enough English to understand me. Pretty convenient when she knows English just fine. I've told her, and the older tall Caucasian woman who manages the place (or just comes to collect the quarters from the machines) that several of the washers don't have hot water. Meaning if you choose to have hot or just warm water for your wash that, instead, you get cold water. Yes, that makes a difference. Have they ever offered me a refund? Never. Have they ever fixed the machines I've told them about? Never. Fortunately I know from experience which washers actually have hot and warm water and use those, but unless you're a regular like me you won't know that. As well several of the dryers don't get hot. They get luke-warm. Again, as a regular I know which dryers to use. If you aren't you won't know. Try getting any help or a refund or even a few quarters from the staff. Try voicing any complaint in slow and simple English and you'll be told 'I no understand', which is simple BS. I'll continue to do my wash here simply because it's right next door to me, but for anyone reading this who has a choice to go elsewhere I seriously recommend that you do. read more

I've been using Washland for the past 7 months and things have gone well each week when I've come to do my laundry. I've heard stories of other laundromats in the area in which the staff can be rude, but I find the ladies here to be friendly and helpful. First off, it's awesome that they don't make you put cash into a machine to get coins. They can exchange your cash here for quarters even up to $20 bills. Second, they're quite efficient. I've done drop off service before and it's usually ready within 3 hours. Also, I've seen them do other people's laundry and they seem to do it well e.g. not dropping things everywhere, folding clothes well and putting them into a plastic bag before placing it back into the original bag the clothes were dropped off in. Third, they don't mess around. If you are there waiting for a dryer and they see that someone else's laundry is done but sitting there, they'll actually take it out so you can dry your clothes. I know not everyone likes this, but it sure as hell beats doing it yourself then feeling awkward about it later. Finally, the crowd seems friendly and everyone is just trying to get their clothes clean without much hassle and in a short time period. read more

I've been going here for just over 2 months and I've finally have had enough. The machines are consistently broken/ do not add soap to the washes (never leaves the machine's reservoir). Additionally while I realize these are public machines, I'm convinced that they never clean the washers or dryers. Some of the delightful items I've found in the dryers are bloody bandaids, wads of hair, matchbooks, and nail clippings. I came to New York for few days traveling and this is the first time in my life to do laundry outside as we do not have this in my country! Also I never use dryer so have no idea about how long it will takes to dry my clothes! This Asian face lady (I'm from Asia too) is quite kind in the binging and show me how to start the laundry machine etc. When I started to dry my clothes, I was told one quarters will dry 6 minutes and this lady said you need another 4-5 quartets to put later. The I said I can probably check if it dry enough after this 6 minutes as I only got 4 pieces of summer T-shirts. Then she suddenly got mad and became very rude saying 'after this 6 minutes you go home and hang it in your place. You go home and don't use machine here' I have no ideas what happened! This is the first time I feel people are rude in US especially in NYC! I don't understand why checking the machine makes her crazy and In the end I put 3 quarters and my clothes are absolutely dry enough! I didn't not talk with her after she says that although I feel so sad and disrespected. I'm going back home tomorrow and will not have a chance to do laundry here again. Well, customer service sucks. Old evil asian lady is rude as fuck. Visting from out of state and have never went to a laundry mat before so didnt quite know how things worked or if i needed to bring my own detergent. I like this laundromat. The attendant is fast and polite. The space is wide with ample carts and folding tables. It is bright, clean, and organized. They even offer free wifi but I don't know if it works. They have lots of signs to tell you info about cost for blankets, laundry bags, down jackets, jackets, quilts, soap, rugs and etc. I have to walk an extra two blocks to go here and it is worth it. read more

What a lovely place! On at Tuesday morning it wasn't crowded, people in and out. The washing machine was just about 30 min and the dryer 40 (or however long you set it for) They have 3 sizes of washers with different prices. The small ones were $2.50 and plenty adequate for my traveling needs. The soap is $75. The attendant was really pleasant and helpful. She exchanges your money for the quarters right there. The 21st Deli across the street has great food and supplies if you need them. They are really nice there too. There is another laundramat on 9th at 53rd, but it was really crowded when I walked by. Two loads cost $10...So much cheaper than the hotel or by the lb. read more

The worst. They burned my towel. I dropped off a set of sheets, 1 towel, and a sleep shirt for $9. My towel came back burned. The woman said it wasn't burned and will rewash it. I live in the area, been using this place For about two years. The only reason I continue using this place is because I live on the same Block. The lady working there is extremely rude over the phone and even worse in person. I'm surprised she's been working there for so long. The soap is over priced, they charge $1.25 for a small box that cost 0.75 cents at any other laundry mat. I try not to ask for any help when I'm doing my laundry, she might bite!! read more

All the machines are new and clean, it's inexpensive and the place is neat. There is a machine to change your money into quarters and there is soap and so on. The ladies there are so nice, too. Edit: I have to change my initial review because of a drop off service. This place is good if you are doing your own laundry but not so much for drop offs. First of all I don't quite believe that they follow your instructions, in my case dying the laundry on light setting. Also last time we dropped off our laundry 2 of the pants were all smudged with a white paste that looked like detergent. I don't know how they thought we won't notice them or ask for them to re-wash. When we did they didn't want to do it and said it must be gum and it wouldn't come off anyway and so on. At the end they re-washed the pants but it wasn't a pleasant experience and definitely was not a nice drop off service. read more

The good part: They have the newer washers in the neighborhood so they're better on your clothes. Comfortable places to sit in the window. They have a lingerie cycle in the washers. The bad part: the customer service is slap-dash. There is a morning person, quite lovely...but the evening person is completely different. She has yelled at me, told me I shouldn't "take up dryers" when there was no one else using it, once someone left a razor in the washing machine and she couldn't have cared less, in one of those sentences I'll always remember she said "well, I didn't put it in!" This is possibly the worst place i have ever used. I never complain, but I've used this place three times so far and every time I get my order back I am missing clothes. I had specific descriptions and when I called to ask about it, the one woman who could speak to me was the most hostile rude person I have ever experienced in my life. I have even gone in to ask questions about what they offer and the same woman was so rude to me. Customer service is awful, they are disorganised and Lose everything and should not be in business. Drop-off service is usually done the same day, and even cheaper than nearby places. I've gone in there when it's been crowded, but have never seen it at a point where you had to wait for a machine to open. Great Laundromat!! I'm so happy that the nasty morning attendant is no longer there. My mornings have been so much better now that she is no longer there! The new attendant is very helpful and always a pleasure. I have always gotten clothes i've dropped off back within 3 hours and when I do wash myself the machines are always very clean.
