As you can see, I don't leave a lot of reviews on Yelp. These guys are so good, I was already writing it while the guy was still here doing the work. Called the listed number and left a message. Less than 5 minutes later Alex called me back to get necessary info from me to replace our ancient, leaking unit (home inspector recommended we get it replaced asap about a month ago) at my request. Rather than mess with replacing the therm-a-coupler on a rusting, leaking outdoor closet unit which was probably more than 12 years old, we had decided to replace. Reasonable quote from Alex, and they could come out the next morning. Nice. We literally had just become owners of this house the day the water heater decided to take a forever nap. I did try to relight the pilot. I think I actually heard the closet whisper "Sooooo coooold and deaaaad...yewwwww screwwwwed cooollld showerrrr guyyyy". So I called the Water Heater Masters. I like hot water. It's the main reason I would never travel too far back in time. Also, I don't like the idea of blowing my face off trying to relight the pilot. The instructions for our gas heater were covered securely with the fiber blanket insulation and twin straps. I only was able to see the last part. The part (I think it was step 9) that said don't blow your face off cold shower guy. It had a skull after it. Or that could have been a spider. Fast forward to the next morning. I had a 8am-9am window reserved from phone conversation. Bobby showed up just after 8am--much appreciated, and unlike any other type of home repair service where they usually show up hours late if at all. That's worth a half star right there. Can't just be givin away full stars. Couldn't have asked for a nicer guy either. He was by himself, but still finished the job in a little over two hours. I was impressed, as he also hauled away our old heater which was a dirty giant wrapped in insulation. Reminded me of a guy I had to sit next to on a long flight once. He was also a gas heater. That dude sweated through my pant leg. At least I think that was sweat. But the real stars are earned when the cold shower guy gets to take a hot shower. Just tested the water. Hot never felt this good. Actually, water is the only hot I like out of all potentially hot things. Ideal weather: clear, sunny, and 63 degrees. I don't even like food too hot. Too many covers on the bed? Can't sleep. Too dang hot. But let me tell you: this water was feeling reeeal gooood. 5 stars worth of good. Thanks, Bobby! Our water heater stopped working on a weekend. I am the kind of person that even after taking 2 cold showers, I'd not panic, and I'd still shop around for the best deal. I called Sears, Lowes, Home Depot and the company who had installed our old heater. Installation fees varied from $308 to $800 and up - I couldn't get a fixed price; it seemed that nobody wanted to commit. I read right here on Yelp that some companies initially give you an estimate of $309 and then charge you 500 for extra work and parts. Plus of course the price for the heater which was going to be between 600 and 1000, depending on the model. When I called Water Heaters Masters on Monday, they were extremely helpful and honest. They gave me a break down on the price and everything seemed very reasonable. Moreover they said that they could do the job the next day, not in a week or two as other companies have suggested. The more I compared prices and quality of service the more I was convinced that these are the guys I could trust to do the job well. I called them again to set an appointment and they asked me if it would be OK with me to replace the heater TODAY? "Is this a trick question," I thought, "Well, of course it would be OK, who wants to take more cold showers?" One of the owners said that he will come around 3 o'clock, and he was right on time. Not only was he a very pleasant person, but he did a superb job replacing the heater. He's been doing this for 20 years, he told me. I got the feeling that they really care about their customers and they have built their business from the ground up - one satisfied customer at a time. If you need a new heater or your old heater repaired, don't waste your time calling anybody else, like I did - just call Water Heaters Masters, and they will take care of everything. Our water heater began leaking on a Sunday morning, days before we were about to leave on vacation. Having two new houses prior with new appliances, this was a new experience for us. We did what any other person would do was to research at Home Depot website. Seeing Home Depot only carried GE appliances (we had a bad experience) we went to Lowes. Called our local Lowes to check for product availability but also to install. They said that they couldn't check schedule until Monday and even then, they couldn't confirm they would get an installer out that day. With two kids, this wasn't an option for us and began to Google Water Heater Installers. We came across the Yelp posting and seeing they had a nice rating I called them. The Gentleman I spoke too was Mathew. He was very nice to talk to and gave a really good overview of water heaters. This wasn't a sales pitch, he was never pushy and spoke very informative. I Googled the water heater he referenced as commercial grade product and confirmed what he referenced. Given that the price was fairly competitive (Lowes wanted 799 for a 50 gallon) we went with Mathew. Unforuntely they don't do installs on Sunday he was able to get us in on the following day, Monday in late morning. The install went great, Matt also installed a heater drip pan and drain at the bottom. The install was quick, fast, and clean. He did a great job explaining to my wife how the heater operated, it was amazing. When I came home and reviewed the product, I was amazed. It is certainly top of the line commercial product. The drain spout is brass and not plastic! Wow. I am so amazed at it and will recommend them to anyone. Thanks Mathew for everything. My water heater was over 20 years old. I knew I was running on borrowed time before I had a flood in my garage. I looked around at the home improvements stores and boy were they charging and arm & both legs for installation. One Saturday I noticed that the water heater was starting to leak and I could only hope it didn't break. I got on the web and found Water Heaters Master. I called the Alameda phone number (510) 535-9419 and talked with Matthew the owner. He gave me a quote right over the phone that was far less than those store prices. He told me not to worry and did I think I needed someone now. I told him I thought we could wait until Monday. We set up a time between 10am-11am. At 9:45am on Monday Will, the techicain, shows up looks at the job and started right away. Will had told me he would be done in about 3 hours (the same time Matt had told me earlier). Will was so professional about the whole thing. He worked his butt off. He not only replaced the old water heater with a new one, but hauled off the old rusted one as well. He also changed all of the values for both the water and gas lines. I can't say enough about how professional and quick this company is and if you are in the Hayward area ask for Will he is great. read more

Our old water heater failed on a Sunday, and I received an immediate call back to my emergency voicemail with a commitment to slot us for the first appointment in the morning. They called ahead, arrived on at the time promised, and discovered they'd have to order a part to repair an ignition failure. I'm used to this line; it usually means "wait another week and we'll hope it's in." Rather, Mike diligently followed up with his office and tracked down the part and had it installed the next day. When that part failed due to other systemic issues, he immediately put a new water heater on order and was back within two days with his crew to install it, again, right on time. All the while, he was communicating via text and phone call, explained WHM's pricing structures, cut some labor fees off, and was finished within a few hours of beginning installation. Everything you are reading is true! The 3 year old water heater went out last night so I called the number on the sticker on the heater. They told me a technician would be out within 2 hours. He showed up 3 hours later and proceeded to quote me $1300 to replace a unit that is free due to the warranty. The 3 year old receipt I had for a new unit and installation was only $1000. I told the guy he was full of crap and to leave. He then asked me what I was willing to pay!!!! I found out later that the company, affordable water heaters, sends out "safety" stickers that homeowners stick on their heaters and then call when it breaks because they think it is who installed it. I then called water heater masters, they quoted $350 over the phone and said they would be there at 10 and take care of the warranty replacement. Matt then called back in 15 minutes and said they could be there at 8 instead. The technician, Bobby, showed up 5 minutes early and replaced it with no issues. These guys rock. I have never before been happy to pay $350 for a household issue. I will tell everyone that these guys are the best. read more

Our water heater broke down on a Friday morning (of course!) and we got a quote of $900 to fix it by a local plumbing and sewer company. The guy spent like 3 minutes looking at our heater before declaring that both heating units and the magnesium rod needed replacement. My water heater started to leak early in the morning, so I called them right away. Matt provided instructions over the phone, so I could turn off the water and my 2 year old could stop using the leak as a mini water fountain for her barbie. They were there within the hour. He provided an accurate estimate that we did not end up going over - no surprises or fees. Alex was very kind and reasonable on the phone. Dave was incredibly polite, so much so that we gave him propagations of our aloe plants he complimented in our yard, LOL. The replacement took about 2 hours, and he did a beautiful job! He even replaced our stupid valve with a ball valve, which it should have been. Now, we get hot water almost instantly and are relieved & so happy this crisis has been resolved so quickly! Great service - placed the call at 7:30AM and had the new 75 gal tank installed by 1:00 in the afternoon. Was quoted a competitive rate in the initial call and was charged accordingly - no surprises. This was not an easy installation being that the location was in a closet on the second floor of our home that involved a winding stair case for access to the closet. The installation was well done including some upgrading to newer local codes - improved seismic strapping, installation of a drip pan with an exterior drain. The tank was a quality "contractor grade" tank. Prior to contacting Water Heaters Masters, we had visited the "big box" stores for a replacement water heater. Their pricing and engagement of their preferred contractors was not as attractive as the experience with Water Heaters Masters. read more

I picked Water Heaters Masters to replace my water heater for two reasons: the yelp reviews and the price. I can't be happier with my choice. There are not a lot of companies out there like these guys. They are upfront, honest, do quality work with quality products (I got a top notch water heater), they don't try to upsell, and offer excellent prices. When I called around most companies quoted a higher offer, the ones that were lower always had an open ended qualifier that I have no doubt would end up costing more than Water Heaters Masters. I also feel like they went beyond what they had to do to make sure everything worked correctly and to work through some nuances in our system that others would have charged an arm and a leg to do. The pilot light on my brand new water heater kept going out. I called PG&E, and they sent out an appliance technician. He said he tested and tightened the thermocouple and that might fix it, but if not I'll need a new gas control valve. A month later the pilot light went out again, so I got on yelp.com to find a plumber. Obviously a company with "water heater" in their name and a 5-star rating was going to get the call. They sent Alex out the next day, and he confirmed the analysis. Because I'm blind I wasn't much more help, so Alex took care of contacting the manufacturer and working out the warranty details. Yesterday, I woke up to not having hot water in the house. After a little investigation, my husband and I found out that the pilot light was out. We followed instructions on the water heater and tried several times but all in vain. Then I called water heater masters after reading their reviews here on Yelp. From the second Matthew picked up the call, he was very helpful. After patiently listening to the problem, he guided us step by step in turning on the pilot light. I had water heaters masters come out late at night to repair my water heater. I wasn't sure if they were able to do anything that night but they were able to replace it while they were here in just a few hours. I know the price was fair because I had another water heater replaced in one of my rental properties in Oakland by another company which charged me $400 more to replace. I highly recommend water heaters masters because their service is excellent and their prices are fair. After a few questions, Matt gave me a quote on the phone and was told that somebody will come (the next day) between 8 am-9 am. Called in for a water heater inspection of a very old unit on its last legs the night prior and had an appointment ready and set up within minutes, Dave arrived exactly on time and was extremely courteous and professional with a friendly attitude as well. He was able to give me a very reasonable quote at $2100 for the whole unit to be replaced ALONG with a six year warranty, and his expertise in quickly removing the old unit and installing the new one in just two hours is nothing short of impressive!
