Years ago, Marci and I went to Watercourse for a friend's birthday. Our friend was vegan, and at the time, neither one of us was exactly convinced that the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle was for us. So, in anticipation that we might not find much we liked, we actually ate before we left home. That turned out to be completely unnecessary. I remember trying the chicken-style seitan and several other things from the menu and being genuinely surprised by how good everything was. Not "good for vegan food." Just good food. What I remember most is that Watercourse challenged an assumption I walked in with. I didn't leave there suddenly becoming vegan, but I did leave thinking, "Okay, there's something to this." And all these years later, I still remember that meal and find myself wanting to go back and see what they're doing now. I used to come to this place when I lived in Cap Hill and they had table service, but it's definitely changed with a slimmer menu and counter-ordering. We were enthusiastically greeted by Renee and I loved her energy, friendliness, and helpfulness. They do have a great HH until 6pm (and daily specials), which we took advantage of. We each got a Lavender Aviation cocktail (delish!) plus seitan and cauliflower wings, corn ribs, and a Philly sandwich. We LOVED the homemade ranch that came with the wings. My sister was afraid of the sauces they offered for the wings, so I got it on the side, which may have taken away from the wings themselves. We were partial to the cauliflower wings though. The corn ribs are a must and only $5 for HH! Unfortunately, the Philly fell short to me. It tasted like refried bean to me and was crazy messy and fell apart. The concept is appealing, especially for people who trend away from or entirely refuse mainstream eats while embracing a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. It was years since I'd last eaten here, so I was looking forward to seeing how it held up. The service was generally quite good: friendly, attentive, and one of the stronger parts of the experience. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. I, am however, not a vegan or vegetarian - so there's that. The bean burger was underwhelming, lacking the flavor and texture needed to stand out, and the Ho Ho-style pastry was dry and even less inspiring. The bright spot was the apparently hand-cut fries, which were flavorful and the best thing on the table. I'd return if it meant accommodating a finicky vegan, but beyond that, I can't say this was a cherished experience taste bud wise. It's a pleasant enough spot with a worthwhile concept, but at least on this visit left plenty to be desired. Oh, as for the music please for the love of eardrums turn it down by half! read more

We went to Watercourse for happy hour yesterday, and it's still one of my favorite restaurants in Denver! They do have a great happy hour and I can highly recommend the corn ribs and cauliflower and seitan wings. We also shared the classic Philly sandwich, and I probably wouldn't order that again as I would have liked to have tasted more vegan cheese and flavor, but it was certainly filling! I always stop by Watercourse Foods when I make it up to the Denver/Cherry Creek area, and tell so many people about how it is the most amazing vegan restaurant, but it isn't the same anymore. They just changed their menu to a fraction of their previous selections, so many great items are no longer available, including the Cuban, breakfast, charcuterie, and so much more. No more lunch specials or table service, which is a bit of a bummer. The service is still wonderful and the outdoor seating is great on a sunny day, but I hope they can go back to their old menu selections soon! read more

My ONLY reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because it feels like they used to have more food options, and while I appreciate they utilize in-season foods, the menu is now quite limited from what it used to be :( read more

Came here for a solo lunch on a Tuesday-- it was later in the afternoon and they weren't too busy . The decor is clean and welcoming (lots of wood & artwork). You seat yourself and have a choice to order with the QR code or go up to the counter. It being my first time I went up to the counter to get some additional recommendations. I went with the side buffalo cauliflower & the chicken Caesar salad. Both were fresh, had lots of flavor and filling-- highly recommend. When closing out my tab at the counter, I picked up a chocolate chip cookie togo (extra large in size and just the right about of sweetness). With the menu so unique I prefer a little more "hands on service" but the experience was tasty and eager to come back and try other things. Really lovely all vegan place that I visited twice while I was in Denver. Between my two visits, I got the gnocchi with sweet potato sauce, the Cuban sandwich, ginger beer, and the giant chocolate chip cookie. All of it was really great, but I think the gnocchi was my favorite of the two entrees. The ginger beer is not super gingery, tastes like Fevertree. The chocolate chip cookie with sea salt is an absolute must! It comes wrapped so I took mine back to the hotel to share with my non-veg husband after he got back from his work conference dinners and he said they were the best chocolate chip cookies he'd ever had! Also, I think it's fun that the plates are made to look like wood, but aren't. The first time I came it had been pouring rain, so the restaurant wasn't as full and it was very easy to find an open table, but the second time it was positively packed, and both times were week nights, so I suspect this place is pretty popular with the locals. I like that the ordering is done through QR code and website, since that would make it easy for groups and means you don't have to all know what you want at the same time (or, if dining solo as I was, you don't need to interact as much with staff, which is sometimes a blessing). Several members of the staff wore face masks, which I appreciated, and there were some nice paintings on the walls from local artists for sale. If I am ever in Denver again, I think I would really like to come back here--and I'd definitely get the chocolate chip cookie every time! read more

Without realizing until we ordered our food, the owners may be (are) the same as City O' City! We knew that we loved this seitan buffalo chicken strips so we ordered them again here. Dare I say they were better because the buffalo sauce was more evenly dispersed. I was having a really hard time, deciding on what to order but we got the vegan Philly cheesesteak and the recommended popular turkey and brie sandwich . I opted for a side of Caesar salad. No complaints about anything they were exactly what you wouldn't expect. Very very good mimics to the non-vegan versions. I'd say this is a good restaurant for anyone trying vegan food for the first time. However I'm a longtime vegan but that's okay. I like a good Caesar salad here & there. Our service was good. Our server was very helpful and telling us about the menu and asking if we needed anything else and checking in on us. The ambience is very cute. The food is quite mediocre, almost taste like convenient store foods. Also, you'll need to order food by scanning the code and order on your phone. We came here to celebrate a family member's birthday, and it was my first time at a vegan restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and how many great options there were. Even though the menu impressed me, I played it safe and went with a grilled cheese sandwich (from the kids menu) and a Caesar salad on the side. It might sound like a boring choice, but it was actually really tasty! The Caesar salad was unique, lightly dressed and made with hearty greens like kale instead of just romaine. It was very basic squishy white bread in baguette shape. I ended up eating the filling and then the bread separate (so not to go to waste) because it took away from my enjoyment of the sandwich. A different type of bread would've been a game changer! If still a white bread, a ciabatta would've worked better! (Crusty, good bite, gets toasty). Our server happily answered my questions about the menu (I'm always curious to know if the vegan meats & cheeses are a certain brand or if made in house). First: The substancial GREETING at the door, especially Aspen!! She gets the smiles from everyone. Immediately the Hosts knows exactly where we choose to be seated given I have Aspen my service dog; we have been enjoying WaterCourse for many number of years, and before the Restaurant was named Watercourse and moved from another area of Denver; this has always been a fabulous place. The Ambiance offers a outside garden table (weather permitting) and café lining the front entrance. The service is Optimal, never overly attentive, rather a gentle watchful eye on our timing. And, if something is new on the menu, it is surely suggested. Every part of the costs are explained along with the menu if one does not know the restaurant and vegan food. Once I introduced Watercourse to a helpful friend who took me to the hospital, with Aspen. She had the "Chicken Burrito and stated, I thought this was a Vegan Restaurant" This was a huge giggle, while my Aspen nibble on my Tofu!! Yes, a Service Dog who likes tofu! The comfort at Watercourse is delightful, for I might sit and write or speak to an adjoining table of people, possibly making some suggestions. Most times, Aspen and I simply enjoy taking our time watching the busy street on 17th avenue, my old neighborhood and how it has changed. Came by today for a Father's Day brunch and it was amazing. First time back in a year and I forgot how good it is! I had the blacked tofu Caesar salad wrap and I can honestly say it was the best meal I've had in months. My dad and the Father's Day special peaches and cream French toast and loved it. Said he couldn't even tell it was vegan. They also make their Arnold palmers with mango iced tea which is so good! It wasn't crowded at all which surprised me. Only one thing to point out. I want to preface that I am not vegan but my family is so I do at times eat only vegan meals with them. I really enjoyed watercourse. The food was delicious. I forgot to take photos. I originally got the paella and although the flavoring was fantastic, I was a little sad that I couldn't eat it all. I understand the need for vagueness in a menu and usually I ask but the paella this time came with zucchini in it which sadly I'm allergic to. Usually I just avoid the foods that have it but my sister recommended the dish and stated it didn't have zucchini last time so I didn't think to ask. Overall though it was good food. The service was good. The place had a very business like ambiance, and most people where there doing business meetings while we were there. No one comes back to see how your food was after delivering to your table. You have raised menu prices and expect 18-25% tips. The menu items have changed. Reduced menu and nothing special. They have an incredible 100% plant based menu with lots of variety. The veg curry dish I had was delicious, a nice variety of veggies & beautifully spiced curry. I came to Watercourse Foods on a Wednesday night. I was excited to try after being recommended to me. It was empty and we got sat fairly fast. Our server was great and told us about the menu and gave us a few suggestions. I decided to go with the Southwest wrap and my boyfriend got the Southern Plate. I was beyond satisfied with the wrap. It's so good and flavorful. It comes with plenty of tofu as it's protein. It came with a side of fries. I will definitely be coming back to get this again. The Southern Plate was very tasty. It comes with a side of vegan mashed potatoes with gravy and salad. The mushrooms were fresh and crispy. I enjoyed this plate. We also ordered Seitan Wings as an appetizer but our server forgot and never put the order in. He asked if we still wanted them and we did. We had to wait for a while for them to arrive.
