I've been wanting to try this place after hearing rave reviews! Came on a weekend to get the tonkatsu sando and the A5 wagyu. After asking about the market price for the wagyu, I decided to get it as a treat. I will admit though, I thought it was a whole wagyu sandwich for $20 (like the other items listed under shokupan). That was silly of me! It was a little hard for me to tell on the menu. Both were yummy. The Wagyu was buttery, soft, and deliciously flavored and cooked. Yummmmm. It's worth a try, although pricey. The tonkatsu was fresh, although I did not enjoy the pickles on them! I think I would have preferred pickled cabbage salad instead. Everyone I interacted with was nice. We saw that Eloise had sandos from the konbini pop up around the corner and was excited to try them. We walked in on a First Friday evening and immediately noticed it was extremely warm inside. Understandable, it was a warm day out. We decided on the cucumber wasabi sando and paid. The cashier seemed to have trouble checking us out, again, no matter, we understand. What we didn't understand was why there were 3 people that needed to step in to make the sandwich and what seemed like anyone going in and out behind the counter. There were two guys in uniform, another guy in regular clothes with sunglasses on his head, and what may be the manager who was sitting at a table with other people. One of the guys in uniform, the guy in regular clothes, and the manager looking guy all took part in making the sandwich but none of them wore gloves. Extremely strange and off putting. I would have never known except it was an open concept kitchen. I was already suspicious of this and we even debated just leaving without the sandwich. When we got home and opened the sandwich, the bread was so smashed over the cucumbers and we could nearly make out the finger indentations on the bread. I would warily give Eloise another chance if they got the operations more in order. 2/5 because I really like the concept but the execution was poor. read more

We were excited to try this "homage to Asian cafe culture" but it pains me to write this review because we did not have a great first visit. We ordered the Iced Yuzu Matcha Soda, the Iced Black Sesame Hojicha, the Egg Salad Sando and the new Spicy Pork Sando. 45mins after opening, we were surprised they were already out of two sandwiches - the Chicken Caesar and the French Dip. While in line, they also ran out of the Strawberry Nutella Sando. When it was our turn to order, the guy taking orders turned his back to us and walked away. He then helped the kitchen get orders out, which while understandable, had us waiting another 10mins standing at the register without any acknowledgment. In all, it took about 40mins from line-up to order. Our drinks came pretty quickly after that. Matcha is from Homecoming Matcha and has a nice colour and flavour, and went well with the yuzu soda. The hojicha had ground black sesame which was a little grainy and unpleasant but the flavour was good with oat milk. Both are sourced from Uji and Shizuoka, Japan, respectively. It took another 20+ minutes for sandwiches to come out and right after we got our food, they let everyone know they had sold out for the day. When we got our sandos, it was clear they were scraping to fulfill orders. The Egg Salad itself was good but the bread was very hard, like it had sat out all day. And maybe it had, as when we ordered, the guy mentioned they were running out of bread. The Spicy Pork had almost no pork and while the bread in this one was soft, the slaw was very soggy so it fell apart. You can see the lack of meat, the soggy veg and the soft vs hard bread in the photo I posted. Eloise is clearly very popular and an interesting addition to Tennyson. However. They are so busy now that the quality and service was lacking today. Considering the price and time, it was not worth it. There are several Asian-owned small businesses in Denver I would recommend over this place for now (Tokyo Premium Bakery for sandos, Ti Cafe for Black Sesame Hojicha Lattes and The Sen for Matchas come to mind). These won't be an hour wait and have good customer service, if you're looking for more authentic Asian cafe culture experiences. read more

Instagram reels influenced me, sue me! These sandwiches are worth the $20. The strawberry matcha special sealed the deal. You know a matcha is good when I get it instead of a coffee. I got the chicken salad with potato stix - WOW! The bread is so soft and fluffy, the chicken salad was not to mayo-y, and the potato stix added a perfect crunch. Super tasty! Love the tender pork with the crispy tonkatsu crust. The milk bread is also amazing, very soft and fluffy. Had to try out these trendy-looking sandwiches! And I will say they were pretty good! We went on a Saturday, and there was of course a line that took about 20 minutes. You've heard the hype, and you can trust that it's worth it! Wow. I struggle to write more than those three letters because every aspect of this experience exceeded my expectations. We arrived just 30 minutes after opening and the line had already climbed half the block, but thankfully it dwindled quickly; a sign of some well-dialed SOPs from their staff. The menu at the counter stayed updated with what they had available, which I appreciated as the options vary based on ingredient availability. I am happy to report that regardless of what you end up with, you will be not only properly satiated, but also delighted by the incredible performance between two slices of Japanese milk bread. Know that I don't say this lightly: these were by far my favorite bites so far this year, and know they'll be tough to beat. I will 200% be back to try the rest of the menu. Great sandos and soft milk bread. We ordered the pork katsu and egg salad sando. The pork katsu was crispy and paired really well with the cucumber, though the vinaigrette flavor from the cabbage salad didn't sit too well with me personally. The egg salad sando was my favorite!! Eloise was high on my list to try and when a friend suggested checking out their new pop-up Konbini around the corner, I figured it was a good opportunity to try both. Eloise got busy early, with a line to the door when we went over around 11. It's a small place but there are about 3-4 tables, and we were able to snag one. It took a while to come out, but it made sense since it was so busy. The French dip sandwich was so good, I loved how they toasted the bread on the outside and the broth was yummy, the spicy pork was just OK, I felt the bread should also have been toasted to bring the sandwich together, because with the cabbage slaw, the cold part of the sandwich really overpowers the hot pork. read more

It's been open about three weeks now and worked through some of the kinks, but there's still a few details to get massaged out. As others note, you should get there prior to 1PM if possible, as there's a high likelihood that they'll sellout after this. Check their Insta page to keep tabs on things. Eloise's interior is a cozy hearth of an assembly line, with five tables squeezed in for dining in. I anticipate they didn't expect a sandwich shop to have so many dine-in guests since this system relies solely on timing and good fortune - once you order, the cashier will give you the option of waiting around for a table to open and come find you. No snagging a table while the rest of your party orders. The menu is compact and focused, the better to showcase their products and keep people moving. They do switch up their menu with a mix of vegetarian and meat shokupan (sandwiches) options, as well as a dessert option that was inexplicably marked up to $20 (from an original $10??). The other thing that raised my eyebrows were the caviar options on comfort food like hot dogs and eggs - a cheeky hi-lo option for those looking to elevate their lunch. We started off with a drink that we were (fortunately) able to wait with outside given unseasonably warm January weather. I liked my black sesame hojicha latte, but the vanilla matcha latte was pretty thin with very little vanilla flavor. Of the Chicken Katsu and BLT (pork belly) sandos, the BLT was the favorite by a long shot with its combination of crispy chicharrones and iceberg lettuce. The chicken was decidedly average, with a tart tonkatsu sauce that could have used more umami to punch through. Eloise has been on my since they opened, and after finally making my way there a couple weekends ago, I'm very glad I did. They specialize in brioche and shokupan sandwiches, which basically means everything is soft, rich, and unapologetically comforting. Exactly what I want in a sandwich and honestly what I'm aiming for in life too. The menu changes, which makes it exciting and also slightly dangerous because now I have an excuse to keep going back. This is the perfect spot for a sandwich shop in Tennyson. We tried the chicken katsu and egg salad sandwiches. The presentation on them, even being to go is incredible. I have never eaten an egg salad sandwich before and this being the first set the bar high. Great flavors, the bread is so soft, and they are a good size for the price. Cute little shop with a modern design. It's very small inside with a handful of tables and mostly counter service, unless you can get a table. The line was quite long on the Saturday afternoon when we visited. We got the egg salad sando, spicy pork sando and the strawberry sando. Generous portions for the price. The egg salad was well seasoned and the "jammy egg" was overcooked when I think of a jammy egg. The spicy pork had a lot of meat and extremely tender and moist, which makes me think it was cooked sous vide. The staff did warn that the spice comes from Sichuan peppercorns, because some other customer thought they were having a medical event when they were hit with the tingling numbing spiciness of the hydroxy-alpha sanshool in the Sichuan peppercorn. It barely registered any heat for me and thought the pork could have used more seasoning. Didn't try the strawberry, but the kiddos enjoyed it thoroughly. In the end, it's a decent sandwich and thought it was decent value. The Japanese Milk Bread or shokupan that the sandwiches are made on was OK. Not having bought a loaf, my experience with the bread from those two sandwiches are that other bakeries in town have more moist and tender shokupan than at Eloise. Eloise is everything we hoped for and more -- I already am a regular at Oliver's Good Bread, where he'd held some Eloise pop-ups. We were excited when we heard it was moving into a brick-and-mortar, especially in the cute neighborhood of Tennyson. Seating is somewhat limited inside, but it's very cute and great for meeting with a friend or two over shokupan sandos and matcha. The menu isn't large, but it's perfectly curated with an assortment of sandos that should satisfy diverse preferences. There are two vegetarian options (not counting the dessert sando), a pastrami, as well as a chicken katsu sando. We tried the egg salad, cucumber, chicken katsu and dessert sando. First of all, the BREAD is a standout, as was intended. It's got that fluffy milk bread texture but also holds up in a sandwich. The egg salad perfect, with the soft-boiled egg in the middle. The cucumber and cream cheese sandwich, though seemingly simple was a great combo of textures and filling. The chicken katsu had a perfect crunch and also was not overly saucy. Lastly, we all loved the dessert sando as well (strawberry nutella). Each strawberry was perfectly ripe and the crunch from the chocolate coating was unique but complimented the sandwich so well. All of this goes quite well with either the vanilla matcha or sesame hojicha latte. Service was very quick and the line moved quickly. New spot on Tennyson St, quite a bit of a line on a Saturday morning, so come early or be prepared to wait. There is a small menu which is nice, they focus on quality of product vs variety. These are supposed to similar to the Japanese style sandwiches, which for the most part they are pretty tasty. This place is owned by the same people who do Good Bread in Denver, so high expectations are set from the start about the bakery goods. Service was quick and fast, coming at around noon on a Friday! They answered my questions about what items were, what they'd recommend, etc. drinks aren't too flavorful (got the matcha and sesame latte), and I'm not one who likes sweet or strongly flavored things. The bread for the sandwiches were soft but not super fluffy- was expecting more of a sando consistency. The egg part was not as sweet to my liking but could just be personal preference! Did appreciate the nice boiled egg inside though. Also got the BLT - lots of potential for the flavors to come together but it just wasn't hitting the spot for me.
