This restaurant is awesome! I stayed at CedarTree Hotel and this restaurant is located right at the hotel. I saw their menu and it caught my attention already. We came here for the breakfast because I wanted something Japanese breakfast style. Since the hotel atmosphere is surrounded with Japanese like culture environment and etc! I ordered the salmon meal and my friend got one of the breakfast deluxe. I love my salmon meal. Come with great portion control! It is enough to fill your stomach right at the boarder line of not too full nor hungry! Everything was delicious in my opinion and the price is fair too! I have no complaints. Great service as well. Very attentive! I saw a comment regarding about miso soup? Lol... 90% in American miso soup are kind of instant or with a paste. And tofu are dehydrated or fresh. I think this restaurant has great potential. It is inside the Cedar Tree hotel. Beautiful yet simple, true Japanese style. I do love that some of the staff are Japanese. There is a koi pond while you wait to be seated and the Japanese garden area is serene. It was our first visit and we were informed the wait would be quite some time, however, expected everything to be great after waiting so long. Plating was incorrect. And Missing honey/maple w yogurt. The kare was surprisingly salty. We felt ignored afterwards. No one checked on us how everything tasted, and I had to constantly flag the blonde waitress down. But the hotel ambience is 10/10. It does feel like I have stepped back in Japan, and would love to take my whole family here one day, perhaps for dinner experience--maybe down the road when the operation has been refined.. read more

Had breakfast here on the day of checkout (we had a voucher for $ off) and I was so happy and excited to see Japanese Breakfast on the menu. Service really needs improvement. Much too casual and we needed to constantly flag the server (the only one working at the time) for condiments and drinks. The salmon was great, but could use better broiling/grilled crust. Miso soup was a complete disappointment. It was exactly the $2 dry packet of miso soup sold at the gift shop. It's easy to tell because the dehydrated tofu was still dry in the center and the soup tasted powdery. If you're trying to save by using instant soup, at least spend a few extra dollars and use better quality instant miso soup! My partner enjoyed the american style breakfast but didn't care much for the "flabby" bacon/ham. I suggested perhaps the chef is trying to keep it authentic Japanese (bacon is always on the flabby side in Japan and always drives me nuts). Our meal was still a good value and convenient since we were about to check out. The hotel itself is great and I plan to come back and try their dinner offerings soon. read more

I came here with a large group of friends (8 total) and we were seated in a semi-private room. The entire place (including the hotel) is gorgeous. The service was amazing (shout out: Mayra!!!) and the food was delicious. We even got to meet the chef! Highly recommend the Pork Shoulder Steak Japanese Style. read more

Located inside a Japanese style hotel in Hillsboro, you wouldn't expect it but, Waterfalls could be a destination in itself. The menu here is mostly French + Pacific Northwest cuisine at dinner, with some very Japanese elements. The food was very good and actually quite reasonably priced given the quality and the generous portions of fish and meat. Service was slower, given that there was only one server, but very friendly and attentive. They also have a long sake list of 20+ options that you can try in the cute little sake bar. For dinner, we had the fried cod, the dover sole, mushroom soup, prosciutto with melon and fruit cocktail, and the pork Katsu. All the dishes were great. We came back for breakfast as we were staying there and just couldn't resist the very Japanese sake teishoku set (salmon, rice, miso soup) and Katsu Kare for breakfast, which definitely cater to the Japanese clientele who I assume come for Intel related vendors. The curry had just a slight kick to it and they used short grain rice which is great. The pricing is odd here, but I love it. The salmon set cost just $12 while a regular full American breakfast is $20. They also do a $12 burger special compared to their $35-40 entrees at dinner. I'd come back here again. Everything was clean and modern looking. During they daylight the restaurant overlooks their little Japanese moss garden which is nice too. read more

It was a beautiful setting, and the lobby had a koi fish pond right in the center. The food was great, the beef curry with the egg was delicious! Definitely will be back. read more

We dined during their soft opening so a few negatives were understandable. First, our male server was excellent! They only offer beer and wine so it is hoped that a full bar is in their future. I'm not an IPA guy, but the Deschutes Fresh Squeezed was the best I've had. The dining area was tasteful, clean lines and minimal. For now, you choose between three prix fixe options: $50 (A), $70 (B), and $90 (C). I selected option A, but requested the fried fish from option B, but they refused. Loved the salad which included beef and salmon, but the "American cheese" was a little off-putting. The puff pastry was decent, the scallops and mushrooms very good, but nobody liked the Mac and cheese (especially because it was cold.). The steak topped with a delicious butter was more than worthy. The two desserts options were meh, I think most people would prefer vanilla or another contrary ice cream flavor over chocolate to complement the oozing chocolate cake. And crème brûlée is getting dated. The chef came out to say hello, nice touch. Took a tour of hotel and offering. Overall, they should fill a niche and do well. read more

Decided to come to waterfalls for our 21st anniversary. Hubby found it randomly but so glad he did. Food was filling and delicious. We had a sake flight to start and it was wonderful. The food was good. But not as "Japanese" as expected. Smaller portions than expected. Ordered a prosecco., for $12, but it wasn't chilled so switched to a sparkling rosé for $10. The rose was served in a medium glass with only 25% full, told 5 oz is standard at this restaurant . Sent it back for a beer for $8 - normal size beer. Was charged $12. Paid it, won't go back. Ambience is almost non existent, but not terrible. No music, could hear every conversation in the room. read more

Stopped in for breakfast and it was delicious! I had the salmon plate and my daughter the bagel French toast. The salmon had a beautiful crispy skin and moist meat, the pickled cucumbers were spot on, and I loved the miso soup. The French toast bagels were new to us and they did not disappoint! And the side of fruit that accompaniwas super fresh. The ambiance is bright and clean with a Japanese garden outside the wall of windows. The server was attentive and had great recommendations. One of the worst dining experiences I've had! Terrible service. Me and my boyfriend ordered dinner. When my meal finally came out it was cold and my boyfriend's food didn't come out with it. We waited another 30 mins and his food still didn't come out. Other customers that came in after us were getting their food. We eventually decided to leave and they tried charging us for the meal my boyfriend never got. A horrible experience, we had to go across the street after to the grocery store to get a sandwich for him since the service was so bad and he was never even served. Never going back. read more

Fantastic Japanese/French fusion restaurant. Don't be put off by the fact it's in a hotel. Truly a hidden gem here in Hillsboro.

Reasonable pricing for the quality of food, presentation and quality service. The Prime steak with their special sauce was delicious. We will definitely return. read more
