I've been here at least four times for lunch, and I'd have to state that this to me, is your average 3-star gyro joint at best. I'm giving a fourth star because the guy at the counter is always welcoming. The place is located within a busy Fred Meyer shopping area. So parking can be a bit busy, especially during lunch hours. There's Pho Tango restaurant, a nail salon, and a UPS store all sharing the lot. Inside dining is simple. Mostly tables for two or four. Clean table tops with the times I've dined-in. So no issues with service or dining. Regarding the gyros, they've got lots to choose from on the menu (and up on the menu board). I've tried their Lamb Gyro and Chicken Gyro for $11.99, as well as their Combo Gyro with chicken and beef for $13.99. I do love the fact that the pita bread is nice and warm, and the toppings were flavorful. But I feel the gyro slices are a bit small, not your typical long juicy strips. More like slivered shawarma cuts. I've also tried the Double Meat over Rice ($16.99) which consists of the chicken and lamb cuts, hummus, tzatziki, a little bit of lettuce, tomatoes, all on top of rice, with that warm pita bread included. Honestly, I thought this plate would blow me away, but it didn't. I mean their sauces were good, but I feel it needed a spicy kick to it.. Overall, Monte Gyro is a great little spot for lunch. Environment: Local business and this spot was once subway. Staff: super friendly and kind. They were very polite, especially their son who was very kind and sweet. I bet he was no older than 14 or so. The owner was also very nice. Food: I ordered a lamb wrap (arabi). It was packed full of lamb and flavors. It was a tad spicy but it was overall very nice. It was very hearty so I actually just ate half and saved the rest for another day. The fries were superb. The texture of the fries were super soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. I noticed this new spot the last time I was in the area and decided to give it a try. I did take out and got their chicken shawarma wrap, falafel, and hummus.. and glad I did! I would NOT buy food here again. I wanted to pay with Discover card, but saw no signage regarding credit cards. I asked the cashier if it was accepted, and he just said "yes". My food was $13.99, but I was charged $14.41. I asked why, and the cashier pointed to this text on the receipt - "To cover the cost of accepting credit cards, we collected a 3% credit card surcharge." Such surcharges are legal in Oregon, but very unusual at restaurants. Ethical merchants will DISCLOSE such surcharges to customers (via signage, and when answering direct questions about whether or not credit cards are accepted) BEFORE the transaction. Regarding my food... "Lamb over Salad". The meat was very tasty, and there was a lot of meat. There wasn't very much salad, and a lot of the lettuce was shredded, which made it harder for me to eat. My preference would have been for a bit less meat & a bit more salad (with bigger pieces of lettuce and tomato). Also, the salad had pickles and green olives, neither of which seem common in the Greek salads I've had. I would preferred a bit more feta cheese instead. read more

The only reason for taking a star away is the lamb was lacking a bit of flavor (compared to some of the places I've had a lamb Gyro before). Now the fries were a solid 2/5. Hardly any sauce or feta cheese. Plus the fries themselves were not that good and priced way to high for what they were. I couldn't finish them and I love me some fries. Highly recommend trying their falafel. They make it fresh and fry it to order! I was amazed when I saw the chef making the falafel balls and frying them fresh. It's the best falafel I've ever had! Saw this new place and gave it a try. We tried the baba ganoush appetizer and I got a falafel wrap and my wife got chicken arabi which was sort of like a chicken wrap cut like a sushi roll and served with fries. All the food was served fresh and was very tasty. The falafel wrap had a great variety of toppings that gave it nice flavors and textures. The arabi dish was the favorite. Somehow slicing it let each bite convey the wonderful grilled chicken taste. We also tried a couple rice pudding desserts. One was custardy with these sort of sweet noodles on top and the other was more liquid and both were yummy. The folks there were super nice and we chatted a bit since we were the last in restaurant customers of the day. They mentioned there might be tweaks and additions to their menu as they fine tune and I'm definitely going to go back and try more things! read more
