My wife and I were in town for a conference and she wanted to come here. Awesome decision!! We wanted to sit outside, and though we were the only customers that wanted that, the staff was very gracious. They turned on the fans, got an umbrella for the table and were just great overall. It was hot and Im sure no server really wants to have one outside table to check on, especially when its hot, our guy was great! (I wish we had remembered his name) He checked on us often. BBQ shrimp appetizer was off the charts good! As were the crabcakes. The shrimp in a cream sauce with pasta was perfect. We ate ourselves to the breaking point. Getting to feed the turtles was pretty cool too. This restaurant location was a favorite of my wife, years ago when she was young and they did not disappoint. The blandest most disappointing meal I've had in awhile! And expensive!!! Me and the girlfriend went and started with the pepper jack spinach and artichoke dip. It was basically a bowl of watery queso dip from a jar with some spinach floating in it served with a generous helping of stale tortilla chips. Things only got more disappoint when our entrees arrived. She ordered the ribeye sandwich which was basically an unseasoned, overcooked ribeye thoughtlessly slapped on a cold bun. I ordered the BBQ shrimp po boy. It came with some assembly required as it was plain shrimp on bread with the BBQ shrimp sauce on the side in a cup. I spent my meal trying to combine the two. First trying to pour it on which made a huge mess, then trying to dip and losing my shrimp. Not to mention the stuffed potato which had less flavor then most instant potato flakes! How is this place still in business. Made the mistake of stopping here when passing through. White wine served room temperature and waitress offered to bring me ice. Oh my! Then ordered a drink from their specialty drink list; told they didn't have the ingredients...really?? Tuna was listed as sushi grade more like starkist grade. We had been aiming for another restaurant with a waterview but since they were closed we decided to come here. We sat in the indoor area with the view of the river, and it was quite nice. I've even recommended this place to a friend for a date here. It's laidback and not fancy, the food is fairly priced - although oddly I was surprised to find the appetizers the same price as some of the meals - but overall, I enjoyed my casual meal here with some friends. I had the BBQ shrimp poboy and like the previous reviewer said, very greasy, and more spicy than I assumed. It was really good overall and thankfully they give you the messy sauce on the side.... might be better to dip it or cut it up in pieces like I did. My friends got steak and said it was really good too. I'd love to come back here with hubby and have a nice date on the river with some yummy food and try somethign else next time. I know that people really like this place, but I'm going to guess that its got great review because the next best thing in Monroe is the food in your hotel's vending machine. I ordered the oysters weemo, the bbq shrimp, the crab cheese thing, and the bread pudding. Weemo was a brown gooey looking thing that didnt look appetizing at all. I took a bite, and thought it was too rich and salty. I also ordered the crab cheese thing - the seafood was very tastey and delicious but the cheese was Grade F nacho cheese. More like a cheese sauce you got in middle school. The chips were stale and yes, too salty. Ordered the BBQ shrimp. Looked delicious, but it was soaked in oil about an inch deep. The spices on the bottom were good, but not spicy enough and full of salt. They served bread with the shrimp, and it was buttered bread with - you get it - salted butter. Thought I would cleanse my palate and order dessert so I got the bread pudding. You know when you bake something and refrigerate it, and then you reheat it in the microwave, and it comes out spongy and chewy and laser hot? Thats what I was served for dessert. I give them one point for service, the water was super sweet and friendly. I give them another point for the location - the water behind the restaurant is gorgeous. I was introduced to the Waterfront Grill a few years ago while on business. The Catfish Desiard is their signature dish. I guarantee you have never had such delicately flavored catfish. The breaded topping they put on the fish is delicious. Eat it with the fish, or push it aside and enjoy the fish separately. I like to eat the catfish by itself with some of their homemade remoulade sauce for a little extra zip. Then I enjoy as much of the bread topping as I can after I have finished the fish. All of the other good comments here on Yelp are correct so I will simply say - don't miss the Catfish Desiard! If you are not hungry, it is certainly large enough to share. We actually plan our cross country drives from Dallas so that we arrive at lunch time just for this dish. Everything else is good too, but once I had the catfish, that was it for me. I find the service quite good. The owner is usually there and very attentive. The locals love the place. Travellers love the place. You just can't go wrong. read more

Let me just say, if the food sucked I'd still give 5 stars because the manger hired the most nicest people in Louisiana. However, the food and atmosphere ...let's talk about that! The restaurant sits on the water with turtles floating everywhere! I sat outside, it was hot and I mean really hot and then toss in some humidity but honestly I couldn't have cared less. My waiter turned on a fan, another put up and umbrella and even though I still was over heated, it was the most enjoyable dinning experience. I had two lemon drop martinis (yummy) and the shrimp rakhee over rice (you chose rice or pasta) and you get two sides. I selected a dinner salad and vegetable medley for my sides although there were a few others like a baked potato to choose from. It also came with warm buttered bread! Needless to say, I'm stuffed and the veggies barely got touched. I highly recommended this gem of a restaurant tucked away in Monroe! I'm only here for a few more days but I'm already thinking about going back before I leave town. read more

We love to try local restaurants when traveling. Yelp helped us find the Waterfront Grill on the way from Atlanta to Dallas. It's a small, unassuming restaurant on the Bayou. Looks like a nice deck over the water but it was cold January day when we were there. My wife and I had the Catfish Desiard - baked catfish with a breadcrumb, Parmesan and shrimp. The owner and his staff make you feel like family from the minute you come through the door. The menu is great for lunch and dinner offering fresh catfish, shrimp, tuna and salmon dishes. The shrimp are so fresh you would swear they had just been fished out of the Gulf. I've had the ahi tuna appetizer, the ahi tuna salad, the grilled shrimp PoBoy and the catfish on different visits. The food is average. The Catfish Desiard is incredibly overrated and a bad value. The "sauce" that came on the side of the BBQ Shrimp Po-Boy was too watery and lemony to even be considered barbecue. The stuffed potatoes had potential, but they had giant chunks of raw purple onions stuffed in the potato which masked what should've been a buttery, cheesy taste. I'm glad they serve Flying Tiger on tap. The location is great on the bayou and the service was acceptable. There are better places to eat in Monroe. read more

The gumbo was not my favorite but the steak easily made me forget about that. We also ordered crawfish cheese dip with chips which was good as well. I asked about their "premium salad" with ahi tuna. I was told it was dark greens mix. To my surprise, it arrived with lettuce... the very thing I was avoiding. I also requested olive oil on the side as dressing, but I was served ranch. These guys don't pay attention. The tuna was overcooked instead of seared as advertised. Patio view is awesome and great place for a relaxing drink or two or three. This place will not break the bank and is worth every penny and more. I had the BBQ shrimp PO boy (see pic) for $10.95. Would highly recommend. They warn you that it's spicy, but found it mild. Great flavor and they give you a side option (I chose a salad) and they give you a side of sauce for dipping the sandwich. The food was delicious, my server was super friendly and great with suggestions of their specialties, and the view was gorgeous. I'm not from the South, so it was really fun for me to try some great loyal food and look out over the bayou. I even spotted some turtles! Only giving four stars because of one experience other than that 5 STARS. We have had many family gatherings, lunch dates, and girls night here. The food is ALWAYS good. Their oysters on Wednesday taste perfect and are at an amazing price. Their hush puppies are great! My only complaint is I went on day and got sat in a seat directly in the sun. I'm not talking about wonderful sunshine waemness, but blinding light that I couldn't even look up from my plate to see my diner partner. I wear glasses so it would glare and just make it hard to see much less eat. I asked the waitress if the could lower the blind or even move us to the bar or anything. Nothing was done. So I stayed layed over hunched over by the wall with my hand over my eyes so I could eat and talk to my friend. Why didn't I leave? The oysters are that damn good. read more

The food was good, but the ambiance was great. I came here with my family with zero expectations. From the get-go, I liked this place. The back of the restaurant supported wide windows to take full advantage of the gorgeous bayou view. All customers were seated as close to the windows as possible, which I greatly appreciated. The highlighted items on the menu were all catfish dishes. The catfish, they said, was as fresh as you can get since their supply was caught from the local bayous. I chose to order the tuna with a sweet potato instead. However, other members of my party got the grilled catfish and said it lived up to expectations. The grilled tuna was a bit over seasoned and cooked well-done compared to the rare I had requested. However, I still enjoyed it. I also appreciated that they put the sugar and butter on the side of the baked sweet potato to fix as I pleased. Sometimes small details of service make all the difference! Definitely give this place a try if you ever visit Monroe. I've been to another location at the Black Bear Golf Course, but this location has better service and view. read more

Went last night. Wanted to take my dad and father-in-law out to eat. Wasn't here Sunday so couldn't take them out then. Called for a reservation and asked for a table in the main dining room next to the window above the bayou. I was told they couldn't guarantee it but ok. We arrived and had a table where I requested. Dynamite!! The service was outstanding! I wish I could remember the waitress name but I think the initials were KB. Everything was great, food, service, you name it. If you are looking for great food and service, this is the place. I have always been a firm believer you get what you pay for. We will definitely go back again. We only get back to Monroe twice a year. We now live in Virginia. Those that live closer should make it a point to eat here as often as they can.
