The Watermill consistently delivers to the customer a superior experience in catering. Today we were at a wedding and the food/service was just amazing!!! The cocktail hour was just over the top with a bountiful of fresh sushi, stuffed pasta, prosciutto, maple bacon, mussels. Really there was too much and I had all my attention on the sushi!!! For dinner, the selections were just over the top! I ordered the braised lamb shank (see photo) which was so delicious. All the entrees from osso bucco to the filet minion and the sea bass. Mike the bartender was on his game today as were the entire staff! I forget my waiters name (he had a bracelet that said "Hope"). He was great!!! This is the place for your special event! read more

Attended a wedding today (i am typing this during the last hr). I had a great time and Pola was great with getting my table drinks or anything we needed! The reason why it is a four star is because I noticed that while dinner service, it got a little bit confusing. I understand that not all services could be great, however one of the male servers (maybe the captain because he had different attire) just plopped it on the table due to frustration. I had my wedding at the Watermill in August. Rob, who we worked with, seemed great at first, but the business practices were frustrating. We were told we were done paying, yet a week before the wedding we received a $5,000+ bill for ceremony and photobooth plus a 20% admin fee--despite Rob assuring us there was no fee. It felt unethical and misleading. I removed the photobooth which left $3,500 to get married on pavers is ridiculous, even with nice flowers. At the end of the day, your in a backyard on 347. To get the bill a few short days before the wedding when we were told we were all set multiple times was not right. The staff the night of the wedding was INCREDIBLE and made the night specialand all of the guests raved about the food- we did not do sit down, which was the only positive. My biggest issue is the photography/videography. I did not receive my wedding photos due to negligence from the main photographer/owner, and the video is terrible. Multiple calls to the Watermill were ignored, I really wanted them to know what hapened so it wouldn't happen to another bride but they never responded. I learned that the photography company and the Watermill are closely tied, which feels very shady. The company is part of their vendor package! Beautiful venue and wait staff, but the fees, contracts, and affiliated vendors were extremely disappointing. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the mixed reviews. I was here as a guest for a wedding... I did park my own car based on some of these reviews and had absolutely no problems at all, ample parking and not a far walk to the front door. The wedding was in the outside area, a little cold for March but what the bride wants the bride gets !!! The cocktail hour and dinner were in 2 separate spaces inside and everything flowed really well. The food was delicious and there was so much variety, even for the sit down meal there were maybe 8 or more choices (including seafood and vegetarian/vegan) Items at cocktail hour were mostly all labeled including things like GF. Last but not least, the most important part of my review, THE STAFF!!!! The bartenders, serving staff and all the customer facing employees i met were absolutely spectacular!!!! Shout out to Michelangelo (i think i read that right) he was so attentive and constantly made his way around the room checking on guests, clearing tables, taking drink orders...so A ++ for him! I don't know about the other side of this event space but as a guest, it was lovely!! read more

The day of the wedding was busy. We had to get ready and be on time for the shuttle van. My friend who was with me in the hotel was in the party was taking up all the time because she was waiting on her limousine. We all had one destination, "Watermill Caterers." Outside the valet was hard at work parking cars and making room for the vans. The outside of the Watermill spoke elegance. We walked through the building to the back for the ceremony. It was outside with a beautiful backdrop. The bride looked incredible and the Watermill made her seem like a star. After the ceremony we walked back inside to the cocktail hour. They had outdoor and indoor available. Now when it came to the food, they had too much! I say this as a compliment. I couldn't believe the selections. My friend tried beef wellington for the first time and feel in love. I'm glad he tried this one because it was amazing. They offered shrimp, meat and cheese the entire time. After we headed to the main hall located downstairs. It was large and seated two hundred people easily. I need to give my thanks to the staff. No glass was empty, they were quick and very polite. Again, I have to point out, they had eight or nine entrées to choose from. I never heard of so many choices! The bad part is they only let you pick one. I took the chicken parmesan, but quickly felt like I should have tried something different. Not because it was bad, it's because everything looked great. The DJ also made eating hard. The music kept making me want to get up and dance. I have to say, I definitely busted a few moves that night. I am all in regarding this catering hall. If I get married....wait, maybe I will recommend this place to someone, so I can definitely attend and try the lamb, or maybe the filet mignon. read more

Mainly leaving this review to comment on the bizarre garnish on top of everyone's meal. The wedding I attended had a typical menu of continental foods; steak, braised short ribs, branzino, chicken parmesan, lasagna etc... they were all topped with CILANTRO!! I'm so confused/curious as to that choice. I was so tempted to ask a server but ultimately refrained. Was this a culinary choice, but my palate was too unrefined to understand it? Did they mistake it for parsley (still would've been weird on top of my chicken parmesan)? I really just hope someone at the venue reads this so they don't repeat that mistake in the future. Pretty crazy thing to do at a 120+ person wedding. I'm not exaggerating when I say literally every plate was topped with cilantro . I wrote a review last week and then deleted it cause I really hate to put a business down but a place like this that has been in business for as long as I can remember should have really been a lot better than what I experienced. I have heard from other people in the past tho that the food isn't that great and it wasn't. This was a work holiday party so it was more of random stations set up with all sorts of food but a lot of it unfortunately just tastes like food from the freezer section at the grocery store. A lot of interesting things but I really expected better for what was put. The salad bar they had at the beginning was the best to be honest. Desserts at the end of the party were even worse. I'd hope wedding food would be better but I wouldn't know. The worst part of the night was when the valet brought my car back and someone had went through my console and threw everything out of it stole a bunch of change and cash and who knows what else I had in there that I couldn't remember. The day after I noticed my son's headphones were gone and my wifes sunglasses were taken as well. The management I talked to swore it wasn't the valets but it's hard to believe when they obviously failed to lock my care and it was pretty obvious they actually left my keys in the car because the valet who brought my car back had no idea where my key was until he had to look through my car. Plus I was told this is an issue that's been happening lately yet they've done nothing about it apparently cause someone else's car also got broken into. I even gave the valet a tip. I spoke to one manager and another one I tried to get a hold of and even left my name and number but it's been a week later and I never got a call back, just shows how much they care about the people who come out to their establishment where company's spend loads of money for parties or weddings. Despite the break in of my car I wouldn't recommend this place. It might look nice inside and out but the food sucks and everyone remembers the food. read more

This review is long overdue, but still upsetting. We got married at the Watermill on June 24, 2021. In our contract with our florist the agreement stated that the vases used are to be returned within 1-2 days following the event. A $300 security deposit was charged to us with the understanding that this would be reversed once the vases were returned. In our contract it stated that each broken/missing vase would cost $45 dollars each. We had a total of 14 vases which would amount to $630. The night of our wedding we stayed at a nearby hotel and were told that we could come back the following day to collect the arch we left. We were not coming back to Watermill to collect vases as they were to be loaded up in the designated vehicle the night of our wedding. We were shocked once we got back to Queens (where we live); prepared to return the vases and realized that they were not with the other items. After calling Watermill we were informed by Nick that they were thrown away. Why anyone would throw away perfectly good vases is beyond us. We were then fed multiple lies such as the florist telling Watermill to throw them away according to Nick and also that Watermill tried to contact the owner about collecting the vases and they refused to collect according to Brian. We were left in the deficit concerning these vases. We understood our contract and agreement and we were being consulted concerning every minute detail the day of the wedding. We are really disappointed that something as major as 14 glass vases being thrown away was not something we would be asked about. After spending over $25k here, to be refused compensation of $300 for a mistake they made is dumbfounding. read more

This was an elegant and very spacious spot. The service was top notch as well. There was plenty of food at the cocktail hour ranging from pretzels, a bacon bar, tacos, an antipasto table, carving station, sushi, etc. My only complaint about the food was the sushi I had was extremely fishy, but besides that, great start to the reception. To start the dinner, there was a tomato and mozzarella caprese salad. It was fresh and presented nicely, no complaints here. For my entrée, I had the pork osso bucco. There was about 7 or so items to choose from, which was a pleasant surprise. The osso bucco came with celery root mashed potatoes and vegetables. The pork was very tender and plenty of it. The mashed potatoes were outstanding though, very creamy. My only complaint was the lack of sauce present on the pork shank. For dessert, besides the cake, there was a small ice cream stick with a chocolate layer and a mini cheesecake piece. All were good when mixed with one another. That was what I ended up doing for some reason, first time for everything! Will I go back? Yes. read more

Called for pricing for a baptism. Mid way through answering receptionist questions regarding how many guests etc she just abruptly says hold on and transfers me to someone else. I have to re start what I was saying and mid way he throws out a price per person that is almost triple what I've gotten quoted from other places for a buffet style lunch. Seemed uninterested and like they couldn't be bothered. Had my wedding there in 2014 and had some issues back then (none of my guests being seated when I arrived so they all saw me, one even walked behind me as I was walking down the aisle because they were rushing her to be seated) should have known better to even call. read more

Got married here this past weekend and it was amazing! Everyone was so nice and accommodating. My bridal attendant Alexa was spectacular, she made me feel more calm and helped me so much! This was my second wedding I have attended here. My first was years ago for a Sunday day wedding. I remember everything going well and looking beautiful. My friend( the bride) had a huge floral issue and the florist never showed up and I remember her telling me the venue was extremely helpful to make her day less stressful over it. Recently we came for a Saturday night wedding. Cocktail hour had a big selection. Plenty of sitting and standing tables. You did have access to outside which was nice. The room it was held in was beautiful. Big dance floor. I loved how they opened the divider to have another bar and access to the outdoor area later in the night. The food was good and they offered a few different choices. The servers all seemed organized and knew what they were doing. Valet made things quick and easy on arrival and leaving as well. read more

I recently went to this place for my sisters wedding it was a blast, service was great and a bunch of people came. There was one downside to this. While people were leaving they wanted to take photos. We were being rushed out by workers because there was another wedding happening soon after. While people were taking their last pictures the workers were Mad they were taking so long. So the workers were cursing people out and being disrespectful. I even witnessed one call someone a b####. I came here with Nicole to her Senior Ball and had a good experience. The food was great and much better than most venues I've been to. There was tilapia, pasta, some rice dishes and a really nice dessert bar. The place is beautiful inside and outside. It had a fancy atmosphere to it. There are multiple ball rooms to accompany hundreds of students. The event I went to utilized three dance halls and did not feel too over packed. We had a photographer take pictures of us as we walked in. The DJ and music was a bit off but I'm not letting this affect my rating for this place. I have been to 2 events here in the past two years. They have both been for Christenings and have been your typical catering hall events with an open bar, cocktail hour, DJ, and all the other bells and whistles associated with a nicer event. I don't remember being all that impressed with my first experience attending an event here, but I also don't remember being all that disappointed. I was excited to be attending a second event as I was going to spend some time with family, an open bar and some decent quality food, but I was wrong. The food that was at the cocktail hour was decent. The best thing that I had all night was a passed mozzarella stick. The stations at the cocktail hour didn't do much for me. I thought that the penne alla vodka was average at best, but I enjoyed the other pasta that they had and the fried calamari, which were both good. The carving stations didn't impress me. I enjoyed the sweet potato fries, creamed spinach and some the other sides that were there. The staff did a good job making sure that the area was clean. When we moved from the cocktail hour room to the main room there were 2 different types of salad. They were both okay. My biggest complaint is the main courses. They were rough. I ate a couple of bites of my steak, and it wasn't good. The other people at my table all agreed that the dinners were not good. My wife had chicken (dry and not too tasty) and some other people had the shrimp oreganata which they all agreed wasn't that good. I left the event and went to grab a couple of doughnuts, as they had set up this really awesome grab and go board. This was right as the event was ending. All of a sudden the lights went out (power issue) and the employees got rude as I looked to grab a doughnut. Seconds earlier they were cool with me grabbing but now that the lights were out I can't grab anymore. You want me to wait it out but the car and my ride are waiting. They lacked professionalism at this point and I was ready to go. I hate giving such a poor review but this was a rough night out. The most impressive thing was the hall itself. The food was far from impressive. If I was going to plan an event I wouldn't even bother with this spot as it really needs to improve the quality of the food. read more

This was a pretty amazing venue. Arrived in the evening for a New Year's Day wedding, and were just really impressed. The trees had these beautiful lights, the chapel was nice and intimate, can fit 100 people easily. The best part were the TV screens on the side of the panels so that way you can see the couple's face as opposed to just their backs. The cocktail hour was awesome. There was a BACON BAR! I ate way too many strips of maple bacon on a stick and I'm not mad. I would've been so happy just with cocktail hour alone. There was a carving station and sliders, fries, the works! The reception was done beautifully. Not a hitch. Dinner options were plentiful- Chateaubriand steak, Branzino, roast chicken, rack of lamb, but the table agreed the dishes were okay and nothing compared to the tastes and delights offered during the cocktail hour. Service was on point. My glass was never empty. The one complaint though, during the nuptials part of the ceremony, you could hear the caterers talking/laughing from the cocktail lounge room all the way in the chapel. It got so bad that at one point, even the bride turned around during her ceremony and side-eyed the noise level. But all in all, Watermill Caterers did an amazing job with our friend's wedding. I don't know where to start. The Watermill was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this venue. Our banquet manager, Brian was phenomenal; his recommendations were always so helpful. Our event administrator, Lorraine was amazing and helped me make final decisions. Our maitre'd D, Sean was outstanding; he made my wedding run smoothly and I had zero worries. My bridal attendant, Bella was the sweetest! This venue is perfect, accommodating and beautiful! Don't hesitate, definitely book. Last thing... the food was delicious!!!!! The grounds were beautiful and very well kept. You did hear the cars on the roadway but it wasn't terribly loud. Food wise cocktail hour was great. Sushi was very good and deff my favorite. For dinner the fish was cooked pretty good and the sides were just ok. Dessert wise they had this awesome smores pastry. Spectacular! This place was the venue for my Senior Ball for Stony Brook University and I have to say I was pretty impressed. The food was high quality and was served buffet style, you could take as much as you want. I mostly want to focus on the beauty of the interior of the venue. It was well lit and the decorations were gorgeous. I loved the outside of the venue as well, there were cute white lights everywhere that decorated the beautiful scenery. I walked around on the upper floors and got a better sense of the venue, I was mostly downstairs though on the lower floor where it was definitely darker and more crowded. My family and I enjoyed having brunch with Santa at the Watermill. The place was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Santa and his elf were available the entire time for pictures. Everyone was professional and friendly. We were seated promptly near the fireplace. They had a nice selection of breakfast and lunch items. Most of the food was decent but my kids were surprised at how awful the mac and cheese was- it tasted like water. The highlight for them was the waitress that kept refilling their shirley temples and the dessert station. The dessert station had fondue, cookies, cakes, fruit and a sundae station. When my fiancee (now wife) and I were looking at wedding venues, there were none that appeared more accommodating than the Watermill. From the breathtaking exterior to the elegant interior and the abundance of food options for our guests, the Watermill was an absolute home run. We provided Nick and staff with very intricate requests and they delivered on every one. The Astor room was set up exactly how we envisioned and the night was incredible. Nick, Victor and staff did an amazing job!! Jessica, the bridal attendant was cool, calm and collected the entire night helping my wife deal with a variety of dress issues. Tom W. was a pleasure to work with in planning the event and was very prompt in answering all of our many questions. Our guests were floored by the amount of entree choices, not to mention the hot stations during cocktail hour. The bacon bar was a smashing success and the donut fence was a great treat for our guests at the end of the night.
