Our poor kitty got injured very badly on a weekend...he would likely not have survived until our normal veterinarian was open on Monday. He was in great pain too. We callled the locally more famous pert emergency hospital in Duluth and were told on the phone that there was an 8 hour wait and to take him to Minneapolis. That simply was not a good option as he would clearly require surgery (if he could be saved), including a stay in the hospital and after care...but we love our boy and would have done it, My wife did a little more sleuthing on internet and found Waters Edge urgent care was open that morning so we ruched up there. I had no chance under those circumstances to research and read reviews, I'm glad I did not because the volume of similar petty reviews on this site would likely have scared us off. The vet tech met us at the door and he was wonderful. Very calm, very gentle with our poor scared and wounded kitty and in general a very kind man. Dr Pop, who it turns out is the spouse of this kind man was exactly the same on the kindness and compassion meter...there is no disputing that they both genuinely care about animals. Yes, the price was high...as it will be in any urgent or emergency care facility. That is just a simple truth throughout the healthcare industry. It was not excessive, I did not "shop around" but expect it may have been slightly less at out normal vet; whatever, that just was not an option under the circumstances and I've got no complaint about the charges that were associated with his emergency care. He did need surgery, he had to stay in their hospital for the rest of the weekend which also means Dr. Pop would be providing ongoing care the rest of the weekend, we've since been back for 3 followup visits related to his recovery and there has not been a single added charge, those who suggest excessive or extortionate tactics here are wrong and frankly missing the point. This is a small operation, with the good Dr and her kind husband often working 7 days a week and of course there are expenses to run their business that have to be borne by their customers. A high volume hospital has more customers over which to spread that expense, but was not an option for us given the timing. I gotta stress we have never experienced the genuine and ongoing attention and care that they had for my little guy had at a high volume veterinarian. Dr Pop and her husband are WONDERFUL. Urgent and emergent care will cost you, this is life everywhere. Accept that as a fact of life. the important part is that they were very competent, very kind, very compassionate and they did after all save our little guys life, what is that worth to us? this vet was awful, horrible experience. My cat had some concerning symptoms ( diarrhea and vomiting) and we brought him into waters edge vet for a check, we wanted an hour for the doctor, and when she arrived she didn't even look at my cat, he never left the carrier and the doctor didnt even glance at him. She listened to the symptoms I described and we were handed a form Of the next actions, radiology and a blood draw for 1000 dollars. we of course declined and left and they charged us 65 dollars for a registration fee which we did pay. we Asked if there was a cheaper option, maybe just a check or a prescription and we were told they couldn't do anything unless we got the tests done And payed them $1000, they hadn't even checked his temp or weight. I would give negative stars if I could, but that isn't an option. This is by far the worst vet clinic I have ever gone to! Took my cat there for a dislocated leg, and they kept charging me every time they recommended a test or x-ray. so, at the one visit, they charged my card 4 separate times. Never in my life have I experienced this at any place, vet or otherwise. The tech was great, but the vet never even touched my cat or her leg to see what was wrong! This clinic needs to be reported because this is some shady stuff. We went to a different clinic and that vet said her leg could have been saved had they done the right steps to fix it. Waters Edge just farted around the whole time and didn't do anything to help my cat. She had to have her leg amputated because the window had closed for her leg to be fixed. I will never EVER recommend this clinic to anyone! Do NOT go here! They are all about money and not about helping your pet. I would have never gone here had it not been an emergency, but now I know not to, and I warn anyone about taking their pets here. Just read the reviews! Saturday morning, took our pet here as this was the only urgent care open in the area that could see exotics. The first red flag should have been the credit card machine sitting amongst the garish decorations of the exam room. We were charged before the doctor even came into the room, charged prior to each part of the exam performed, and made to believe that our beloved pet's situation was life or death if he did not have surgery performed. Luckily, the doctor was unable to actually perform said surgery. Even luckier; they neglected to actually set us up with a referral for the surgeon come Monday. I should mention that not only did Dr Pop not handle our pet in the room, she actually flinched away from him when we were trying to get him onto the scale for her and her assistant. Our little guy was perking up by Sunday anyways. On Tuesday, we made the long drive down to our former vet's office for a second opinion. The doctor there did not see any of the issues that Dr Pop claimed our boy was suffering from. She was also appalled that we were charged prior to every service, especially as there is never any guarantee that an animal would even allow something like an X-ray to be done. If you love your pets, steer clear of Waters Edge. They will try to take you for everything you have, and then try to take you for more after scaring you with a bs terminal diagnosis. Today is Wednesday and our pet is eating well, using the bathroom as normal, happy and healthy and it's all no thanks to this awful place. If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

Do not, under any circumstances, ever bring your pet to Waters Edge Animal Hospital. They will over charge you and try to sell you every possible service they can, even unnecessary ones. Long read ahead, but well worth it. Our pet rat Berry was feeling very ill. We brought him to Waters Edge on Saturday morning, the only local vet that was open and willing to see him. Naturally, we had to start with a basic exam which was $255 and had to be paid before the doctor would even enter the room. The fact that every room has its own credit card machine should have been our first red flag. After the initial exam, the doctor suggested x-rays, which again had to be prepaid right there in the room at $345. About 15 minutes later, the x-rays were done and the doc came to tell us Berry had foreign objects in his stomach and they were blocking the exit to his intestines. Meaning he couldn't take in food and pass it through his system. You can imagine what a dire situation that is. We were left with just two choices. Surgery, which they weren't able to do at Waters Edge and would have to be scheduled immediately on Monday. Option 2 was to put him to sleep, which they could do. He's approaching old age, he's in a lot of pain and there's a chance he wouldn't even survive the surgery. Given these factors from the vet, we felt pressured into putting him to sleep. We briefly considered it, because seeing our boy in pain was killing us and the vet acted as though that was the right option. After a few minutes alone crying and discussing our options alone with each other, my girlfriend and I decided we would take our chances with surgery. The doctor prescribed some pain medication for Berry to help him get through until Monday. You guessed it, $122 had to be paid for the meds right there in the room before they would even go fill the meds. Monday morning rolls around and we contact Waters Edge to get the info we need so we can call the surgeon down at the U of M and get this surgery scheduled. They assured my girlfriend and me that they would handle it for us. They would call the surgeon, send them the medical records and get the surgery scheduled for that same day. My girlfriend immediately got the rest of her shift covered and raced home to be sure she was ready for when they called back to tell us to go. Fast forward to the end of the day and we've heard nothing. My girlfriend reaches out and they reply back with Berry's records and x-rays from the visit and the surgeon's contact info so we could call them ourselves to set up a surgery. What the hell?! At this point, Berry is doing great. 100% back to his normal self. So, Tuesday morning, I called our old vet, Maplebrook Pet Care, back down in the Twin Cities and begged them to get us in that day for a second opinion and fresh x-rays. They said, "Get on the road right now and get down here." After our visit at Maplebrook , where Berry and his brother Chino were treated like rockstars, it was determined that there were no foreign objects in his belly and he was fine. They gave him some more meds for some unrelated chronic respiratory issues he's had his entire life and was sent home with a clean bill of health. Oh and the bill was $172 for everything, including triple the amount of meds and the bill wasn't asked to be paid until the END of the visit. With all of that said, the thing that I'm most upset about, is that we felt pressured and nearly went through with killing our boy for no reason. Why? Because they could charge us for it and milk more cash from their customers. Pathetic and criminal. Sorry for writing a book on this one, but they almost made us kill our cutest boy for no reason. Waters Edge Animal Hospital & Urgent Care deserves a 1-star review, and that's being generous. They tried to convince me that my dog's minor eye injury required an unnecessary $5,000 surgery! Shocked and feeling desperate, I sought a second opinion at Airport Animal Hospital, where I was told that my dog's eye would heal perfectly fine with just antibiotics--no surgery required. When I called Waters Edge back to question their recommendation, they doubled down, claiming that if surgery wasn't done, my dog would have "permanent eye duct issues" and need drops four times a day for the rest of his life. This was pure fear-mongering. Airport Animal Hospital assured me this was completely ridiculous and that the injury wasn't even close to his eye duct. It's clear to me that Waters Edge is taking advantage of distressed pet owners, pushing for expensive and unnecessary procedures just to pad their bottom line. I'm appalled at their lack of ethics and urge anyone who loves their pets to think twice before trusting them. They prey on people's emotions and would rather make a profit than provide honest, compassionate care. read more

Let me begin by stating that I have always had a pleasant experience taking my dog to this clinic. The staff are very friendly and there are always plenty of treats for your animals. The vet techs and the vet are excellent and definitely know what they're doing. However, since I became a client in 2019, I feel like the mission of this place is to squeeze every penny out of you. Call in and say, "My dog has had loose stools for a day or two now. Is there any advice you can give me?" "Bring her in and we'll do a fecal examination, and examine your dog." They gave her a probiotic - something I could get on the shelf at Petco or something. That was well over $150. I learned my lesson after that. Their first suggestion to any problem you might call about is "bring your pet in for an exam." No over-the-phone help. I have called back numerous times for other mundane issues and their first response is to have me bring her in, which costs me AT LEAST $50 just to walk through the door for an appointment. My dog recently had an issue with worms that I could clearly diagnose myself and called Water's Edge to see if there was a way to get medication without an examination, but no. I HAD to bring her in for a fecal sample and examination ($100) and THEN and only then could I get medication for her ($50-$150). I tried to explain that I can't afford all the exams they required and just wanted to get the medication but they refused - said they needed to do an exam before I could get what I wanted. I ended up buying an OTC dewormer at PetSmart for $30! and it worked just fine! I tried ordering heart-guard on 1800PetMeds because they had a discount going on. I bought a carton but needed my vet's approval. Well, when you order with a third party (1800 PetMeds, Chewy, etc.), Water's Edge charges you a $15 fee - just because you don't order through them! What a scam! Do other vets do this? Same thing happened when I tried to buy tick medication through another third party site. It always seems like they're trying to get all they can out of you. They certainly take care of your pets - I wouldn't say they neglect them at all (in my experience). But they're always recommending more exams, x-rays, appointments, medications, etc. just to keep making money. I understand they feel the need to see a pet in person to diagnose something that may not be apparent to an owner and I'm sure they have reasons for what they do, but the lengths they go to just to keep tacking on services is unacceptable. I followed Dr. Pop from another vet clinic many years ago. Her prices were fair and reasonable back then. However since her husband has taken over the office, prices have risen astronomically and they try to add on additional fees, costs and expenses at every turn. They started charging to pay by credit card and stopped taking checks, trying to become a cash only business. Most folks I know don't carry hundreds of dollars around with them. The last time I went in it was for rabies shots for my small dog and cat. One of the cat's shots was spilled so he didn't even get all of it. I was appalled when the bill came to $450! Just for vaccinations. When I called to inquire about a dental cleaning I was told I needed an office visit ($145) just to get a quote. I will be taking my pets elsewhere. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR SICK DOG HERE. The lack of care and empathy is mind blowing. My dog had ate some thing that poisoned him while camping north of Hermantown and was weak and shaking. They did nothing. I asked for hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting and they kept saying they had to follow policy and apparently the first part of their policy is getting all my information while my dog sits there and continues to be poisoned. I figured it was a better idea to rush to the vet, than to go to Walgreens and get peroxide. Turns out I was wrong. It's sad when I can provide better care than a trained staff at a veterinary facility. I should have known it was bad news when I pulled up to an unkept facility with a parked car with a flat tire In Front. Bottom line if you care about your pet don't bring them here. Compassionate, skilled, never had any problems. People that complain about the price- it's like going to the ER versus your regular doctor. You are going to pay more for emergency/urgent care. (There are reviews on here that are from people who like to complain about the cost of same day appointments- that's urgent care!- urgent care will cost you more. Expect that.) Dr. Pop is a WONDERFUL vet and I would recommend her to anyone looking for care for their pet. She's very empathetic and cares about your pet! I also see posts on here complaining about her husband and front end manager, Silviu. We've NEVER encountered any problems with him. But he's not the one caring for your animal, Dr. Pop is. She is the vet, not Silviu. Regarding complaints on here- It's not a fraudulent business practice just because you feel you were overcharged for same day service. And of course they want to see your pet rather than do a curbside consult and be wrong. They are liable if they are wrong, so of course they want to see your pet instead of giving a diagnosis over the phone or giving a prescription without seeing your pet. And if they do give over the phone help, they SHOULD get paid! Think of it like your doctor's office. They have a right to charge for consultations. ASK QUESTIONS. ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS. To those complaining about "being pressured" into services or medications, etc.- you don't have to accept that! But if you do, take responsibility for doing so, don't call later and complain about the bill! When it comes to animals, everyone's emotions are heightened. We've been bringing our cat to Dr. Pop since they opened. We we're with her at Daugherty's prior with our other cat as well. When our previous cat went blind, she diagnosed correctly a possible tumor that was confirmed with a CAT scan down in the Cities. She was very compassionate and loving through the whole process. Then she saved our kitten and found a prescription food for him that has worked for 18 years. She must be doing something right if we have an 18-year-old healthy cat. We remain loyal to Waters Edge, because we have never had a problem. I've read other nasty reviews and you have to take it with a grain of salt. (For example- one review was someone that complained they couldn't get their cat food because they were closed. Well, they post their hours on Facebook and on their phone. Maybe that person should have planned ahead a little bit better instead of blaming the vet for not being open when they needed their food!) read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE!! LACK OF EMPATHY, KNOWLEDGE, AND A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY! Background story: On August 14, 2024, my mom called and set up an appointment for her sick dog. A day prior to this (Tuesday), her dog started losing her appetite, her hind legs were collapsing, and it was evident that she had a fever, which is why we brought her to urgent care the next day. At our appointment, the doctor suggested that we run tests that included X- Rays and blood work. Trying to get some answers, we agreed to do as the doctor suggested. Shortly after, the doctor brought in her X-Rays and told us that we had a severe case of pancreatitis. The doctor acknowledged that her spleen was pushed back but did not suggest any further testing. Given that she seemed so adamant on her diagnosis, we of course went with the medication they suggested and left there feeling hopeful and relieved. Fast forward to the next day (Thursday). My mom went into her normal vet who could not see her until Thursday (she called Tuesday before she called Watersedge, but they couldn't get her in right away which is why we went there first). When my mom went to her appointment on Thursday and seen Dr. Nelson through Grand Avenue Vet, the first thing she mentioned after examining the X-Rays was that her spleen was pushed back and that she was concerned she had masses growing. Since they do not do ultrasounds at this clinic, Dr. Nelson was kind enough to get us scheduled with a doctor up in Two Harbors at their "sister clinic." On Friday, we drove up to Two Harbors praying for good news but unfortunately, we got the alternative. The doctor did the ultrasound and did indeed find masses growing which was why her spleen was pushed back. Given that she was almost 15, there was really only one last thing we could try, which was a steroid shot that some dogs do well with and can bounce back from. The doctor gave her the steroid shot and suggested we wait no more than 24 hours to see if she had any improvements, and if she didn't, she would need to be put to sleep. We spent Friday taking her to her favorite place and just spending as much time with her as we could. Saturday, unfortunately she did not get any better and we ended up needing to bring her to BluePearl ER in Duluth to put her down (BluePearl has the BEST staff and truly do have such a sense of compassion and love for animals. I've been there twice now and I've felt it both times, regardless of the circumstances). Our sweet girl had a happy, long, and full life. The outcome of the situation would have remained the same but the issue with Watersedge is that they ACKNOWLEDED what every other doctor also saw, and rather than looking into it further, chose to disregard it and to make matters worse, give us false hope that everything would be okay. Here's the thing, no one goes to these clinics because they feel like spending an arm and a leg for nothing. You know the second you walk into any ER/Urgent care clinic, you're not spending less than $1,000 each time. You go to these places to get accurate results NOW as time is of the essence. Not to be toyed around and given false hope and essentially, spend money for nothing. Had Watersedge dug into what they fully seen and acknowledged during our appointment, we could have dealt with things sooner. The outcome would not have changed but we would have been brought to realty sooner and most importantly, relieve our dog of the pain she had been feeling as she had such a quick decline and the mass was growing substantially. This establishment is not knowledgeable nor do they have the most caring staff given the places we have been to over the years in comparison. If you want accurate information from caring doctors and can't get into your normal vet in the Duluth area, I would suggest BluePearl. They have the kindest staff and although you'll still end up paying a lot of money, you can feel confident that you're paying for the best information/treatment possible for your fur baby. read more

Do not EVER go to this place; fraudulent business practices and a horrendous manager, named Silva Pop. We called to ask questions and were pressured into coming in the same day; without being told, same day appointments are considered "urgent walk ins" and they charge $245 for just walking in the door without doing anything. Our fault for not asking questions, I called to let them know there was misunderstandings about this and he said "too bad that is your fault for not asking what you were paying for upfront." absolutely horrendous. I should have read these reviews but we had gone here in the past, before this man starting managing the place, and it was much better & not like how it was now; only transactional and only care about trying to take as much money as possible from you. All they cared about during the whole visit was trying to get us to pay as much as we could and thank god we turned down their excessive amounts of testing costing upwards of 800 bucks for a dog with a sore leg.....at the end they prescribed "pain meds" for 70 dollars without even telling us how much they were and just literally asked for our card. OH AND GET THIS, the same pain meds literally everywhere else can be purchased for 33.99!!!!!!! They literally did nothing, and could have told us to ice his leg and give him these meds over the phone if they truly cared about our dog. We legit got scammed and thankfully only for a few hundred, rather than what it seems a lot of people get sucked into in the upper hundreds to thousands. I told him on phone looks like the reviews are right and I also heard about the lawsuits and he said " oh yeah everyone is suing us and complaining, blah blah." this should tell you everything you need to know about this establishment and I am guessing they will be shut down soon enough, thank god. Charged us three separate times with 3 percent charge for each one; did not explain what anything was for or why we were being charged so much and did not even look at our dog hardly and tried getting us to do more than 800 dollars worth of tests for nothing. Manager would not listen to anything we said when we called next day to let them know we misunderstood almost every charge and thing that was going on and were not filled in along the way which he yelled at us and told us thats our own fault. They should not be practicing veterinarians and they do not care one bit about animals or anything, just trying to make as much money as they possibly can. They should be investigated for fraudulent and unethical business practices immediately. Posted on a facebook group in the area and over 45 people came forward with similar and way worst situations and experiences they have had. If you look at the google reviews, they are also disclosing private client/animal information there that is so inappropriate and arguing and fighting with people. This makes sense as the manager was the most rude I have ever been treating anywhere over the phone when I asked if we could be charged the normal price of 145 dollars for just the visit and to please return the 70 dollar pain plus meds they prescribed without even telling us and just threw it on our bill at the end, when they sell those online for 33 dollars a bottle and I was unable to refuse it. DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR FUR BABIES HERE EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I will be sharing this horrendous experience with everyone I know and everywhere I possibly can. I'm so disappointed in our recent visit to Waters Edge Vet. They were great when Polly was alive and they told us they did regular vet care as well as emergency and regular customers pay much less. So we listed all of our pets as their regular vet. However that was a year ago and things have changed. Monday we had to bring Luna in for a UTI. I made the appt. during regular vet hours and expected the visit, urinalysis and antibiotics charge. I sent Brian with her and they charged him $80 to walk in the door, then told him Luna NEEDED much more testing. Multiple X-rays, multiple urinalysis charges, blood tests, and "prescription" supplements on top of the antibiotics. Then tried to tell him she needs to be on prescription food for the rest of her life (which thankfully he did not purchase). They completely took advantage of Brian and charged over $700 in the end. When he got home I was so upset, even the "prescription supplements" were exactly the same as what I buy at PetSmart for $9. I called the vet and asked why we were charged this high since we were regular customers. They admitted we weren't given the regular customer rates and would not tell me why. Rebecca Keys said "Well we told him the price and he paid so there's not much you can do now, I'll have a manager call you back".... fast forward to now Friday, I've emailed them and called them with no response. I brought my elder dog in to be put to sleep. She's been my friend for 14 years. It was unexpected and I had to do some financial finagling to cover the cost and the staff was super understanding, kind, and up front about the prices. They were very empathetic, putting a blanket around my dog, letting me sit with her alone as she went to sleep and be there in her final moments. They recommend every lab test and won't give recommendations on which tests are really needed. The supplements I bought were also very high-priced. I take both of my dogs to this vet clinic. Dr. Pop and her entire staff are just great. They helped me greatly when I was in a pickle after one of my pups was sent home from an in-kennel training program (due to developing a new cough) just before I was supposed to leave for a long trip. I can always get in when I need to. I can't say enough great things about this clinic and I recommend them to all of my friends. I have also used them for boarding. I am so disappointed with this establishment. When I walked in, the man at the front desk had his mask around his neck, not even on his mouth or nose. We're 8 months into the pandemic. The entirety of time that I was there, he did not put it on properly. This place is EXPENSIVE. My dog's dewclaw was hanging off by a thread and they charged me $900 to repair it! Since it was the only place open, I was left with no other option. Here's the worst part: When I picked my dog up from her nail surgery, they were making her walk. SHE WAS IN NO CONDITION TO WALK! She kept falling down, her legs were shaking, (due to anesthesia) and they didn't seem to care! She is a 40lb dog, and repeatedly falling on the floor after surgery could really harm her! She was going in and out of consciousness in my car on the way home. I was so worried because she was unresponsive. Yes, this was after I payed nearly $1000. And I was given a dog in this state. When she was ready to be picked up, they didn't call me, but called my emergency contact. Luckily my friend called me and told me. My friend also said "this isn't the owner" and the vet still never called me. The service wasn't warm, it wasn't very kind, and they did not seem to care about my pup at all, only the outrageous amount of money. Oh!!! And I was never allowed to speak to the actual vet!! I would not trust them to take care of her again and I regret doing so in the first place. GO ANYWHERE ELSE! read more

Edited to add: 20 minutes after leaving this message I received this voicemail message: "This is Silviu calling from Waters Edge Animal Hospital. I was not rude to you and thank you for lying." I'm certain any customer would love the veterinarians and staff at Water's Edge, but I would NEVER recommend them-I wouldn't want anyone to ever deal with this manager. Silviu the manager is rude, condescending and the entire reason I won't be returning. My dog had her cast rewrapped at the suggestion of Dr. Savannah. 8 hours later, the cast slipped off her leg in one full, undamaged piece. I brought her in the next day and the manager insisted on charging me. The previous cast had remained on the dog's leg for a full week but he firmly stated that my dog chewed the second one off, even after I showed him the cast wasn't damaged or chewed on. My dog's care is extremely important to me, but I can't bring her to a clinic where the manager can't provide proper customer service. I would love to keep seeing Dr. Savannah, Becca and the rest of the staff here. (The staff gets 5 stars!) I can only hope they find employment at another local clinic, because I won't be returning to Waters Edge. read more

My sister just brough her dog here. They charged her 500 dollars and sent her home with the dog. The dog died like an hour later. They didn't tell her the dog was close to dying. Worst place ever. Shame on them for charging all that money for food and an IV and sending home a dog they would have been perfectly aware wasn't going to make it. read more

My 3 month old puppy was having a serious medical emergency this evening. We live close to water's edge so we rushed him there. They immediately forced us to pay $100 before seeing him, which we foolishly paid. Then, they whisked him out of the exam room and away from us and closed the door and said nothing. After a while I opened the door to see if anyone could give me an update and before I said anything, an extremely rude and aggressive male employee named Silvio (cite: google reviews) told me "get back in the room and shut the door" and I said "why?" And he said "if you can't listen then I'll make you leave." So I told him he was extremely rude at which time he started to verbally harass me so I stormed out and had my roommate grab the puppy from them and we took him to blue pearl where they are currently assessing him and keeping us updated every 5 minutes. Do not go to waters edge. They over charge, they do not care about you or your pets, and they employ misogynistic vile people. read more

Taking advantage of people who are in need of medical care for their pets is such a disgusting way to make a living. Charging for the most ridiculous things like cleaning up pet urine in the lobby, and just plain making up things to charge for and then lying about why they charged for it. Having to spend hours there because they're understaffed but still over booking appointments to make money. How are they giving their clients the time and proper care that they require when they're running from room to room trying to help everyone at once? Being charged for things that I've never been charged for before in all the years that I've gone there was the last straw for me, not to mention the condition I got my pet back in. Seriously, don't go to this place for Urgent Care. This is my first negative review of a business, but my experience was horrible. And even though the visit was expensive, this has nothing to do with money. Took my dog in a little over a month ago because she was in obvious pain. I never even talked to the vet. I realize there are safely precautions, but I could have talked to the vet on the phone, which has been the practice of the local emergency vet, Blue Pearl, and my regular vet. My dog was diagnosed with a tick-borne illness. However, she was prescribed half the recommended dosage of the medication, which my regular vet didn't know until two weeks later after my dog didn't recover because even though I asked for the records to be sent to my regular vet, they weren't. Also, had the vet talked to me, s/he might have told me the quick results test they used does not always return an accurate response, so my dog was also misdiagnosed with a much less severe illness than the one she actually has. Although there is a chance my dog would not have improved anyways, I'll never know, and with the increased time of having the illness, there is a much higher chance that it is now a chronic condition. There were other issues, but the negative effect on my dog is by far the most important. Again, I am not the kind of person to leave negative reviews just because things didn't turn out well, but the fact the vet didn't even talk to me (on the phone or otherwise,) didn't prescribe the appropriate dosage of the medication, and misdiagnosed the illness... to say I'm angry is an understatement. read more

Felt like we were being ripped off!! They wanted $1500.00 just to sedate and put in a couple stitches in our dogs mouth. That did not include the $98.00 just walking in the door. The vet only saw the dog for maybe a couple minutes and then an estimate that much!! We kept her with us and took to a different vet today and she gave us options. We decided to get the stitches, this vet said she would clean and irrigate the wound also. Total was $440.00 with exam, stitches, sedation, and antibiotics. We call on July 30th at 0803 to get an appointment for our dog and they explained if we canceled or missed the appointment we would be charged. Well at 0820 our dog passed and we called to cancel the appointment in tears. We were still charged the $145 dollars even though we were coming down with the dog. I am completely disgusted with the customer service when i called to try and get a refund. The manager spoke broken English and could not care less that the dog passed. If anyone wants to use this business I would stay clear. I wanted to talk with the owner or someone above this lady but she was rude and would not let me talk with anyone. I am in the process of filing with the BBB to try and get some action as well. read more

My youngest kitty was having serious issues and I am fairly new in Minnesota, so after calling all locals I had to drive the 60 miles to these guys. When I say this is my baby, I bottle fed her from day one and her daddy cleaned her, so she IS my baby, naturally I was really distraught. I couldn't go in because of the pandemic and was told she needed a hysterectomy. I managed to come up with the $5,000+ they wanted for the surgery and had it done (I am on social security so this was very expensive for me) . The next day I picked her up and she was great, and so thrilled to be back with me. Keep in mind that this is a distraught mommy and, my fault, I didn't do my usual due diligence. I accepted the bag with our meds and went home. About 2 weeks later I looked again at the bill and realized that I never received one product at $41.99. A week later, when I had time I called them. It took several days to actually reach them because they didn't have time to talk about a bill. The person I spoke to said she would take care of it. I now know she is their office manager (she had an accent so you would know her if you spoke with her). I noticed upon checking my bank statements from the last couple of months, that I never got my refund, so I called back today. She rudely told me that it was too late to get a refund and, in essence, called me a liar because she insisted I would have gotten the product. I asked to speak with her boss and she said she was the boss and it didn't matter who actually owned the clinic. I have no complaints with the vets, but these people take advantage of people's distress over their beloved family and cheat them, as well as over charge. I have nothing good to say about them and I urge the vets to seek employment with a more honest clinic. read more

This is the first time for making a review like this. I called ahead of a friend going in with her cat who was pregnant and over due after giving birth to a dead kitten. I called to pay for her veterinary services up front. She waited 40 min to see a vet with no one else in the waiting room. She was then told that the X-ray machine was not working but given antibiotics and sent home. The kitty did not give birth during the following 24 hours so she took her mother kitty to another vet where by the X-ray showed a kitten too large to be birthed without surgery. Mama kitty doing fine now, but all kittens dead. The mother was also spayed during surgery. I called and complained about the service wanting the 69.00 payment returned. They thought their actions did not require any corrections. I must add that they had to "protect themselves" by having me send a photo of my credit card and my drivers license before they would allow me to pay for her. And there was a level of rudeness about this that made no sense to me. When I called back I was told that the vet had a degree and that vet would know better than me what needed to be done. Oh maybe, maybe not. I have been around a long time taking pets to veterinarians and I can't imagine a vet not wanting a picture before making any decision like this one. To the clinic: I wish you the best, but do not leave your patients waiting for a long time and if someone else is paying the bill, be very respectful....I can order anything over the phone with a credit card without sending them my license and photo of my card. The other clinic did not seem at all surprised that someone else was paying - in fact they were thrilled! read more

On 10/28 my boyfriend took our two dogs, a lab and beagle to Waters Edge Animal Hospital for an annual check up and to be tested for tick borne diseases. According to Waters Edge, both of our dogs came back positive for Lymes Disease as well as another tick borne illness and treatment was recommended. Trusting this vets recommendation we decided on the treatment of a month long course of antibiotics. At the end of this appointment, my boyfriend called me and told me his they charged him $753.24. I told him to come home so I could look over his itemized bill and see why it was so much. When he got here I was absolutely shocked. I did the math and $441 of the $753.24 bill was just for two prescription of antibiotics! Our large lab (Max) was giving a prescription of 100mg Doxycycline (112 pills) and the cost of this was $345! Our smaller dog (Frances) was given 50mg of Minocycline (56 pills) and we were charged $96 for this prescription! I knew these numbers were not correct so I began searching online for costs as well as calling other vets. The other offices I called were appalled at how much we had been over charged and quoted us VERY different prices for the EXACT SAME prescription... for our larger dog, rather than the Waters Edge price of $345, we were quoted the price of $83, that is a difference of $262! As for our smaller dog, we were told that Minocycline was not even the preferred method of treatment for Lymes Disease (however is a cheaper medicine than Doxycycline in most cases) and they would rather treat her with the better medicine (Doxycycline) for this, we were quoted a price of $33 for this.... now this was the better medicine than the Minocycline that Waters Edge prescribed us, and STILL CHEAPER than the $96 that Waters Edge was trying to charge us for the Minocycline! So, in total Waters Edge charged us $441 for two prescriptions, that a vet less than 5 minutes away from them said they would charge us $116 for... that is a difference of $325! Insane! We immediately called Waters Edge and confronted them about this. We asked that we were able to return the medication or for a price match on what the other vet quoted us. We were told they do not price match, however, although they weren't "supposed to", they would give us a refund for the cost of the medication and we could get it elsewhere. When asked why the cost at Waters Edge was so vastly different, the male office manager told us "thats just the cost of the medication, its expensive" even though we were getting the same exact thing (and even a better medication for our smaller dog) at another vet for much less. My boyfriend then had to make another trip to this vet and deal with returning the medication. While there, he again asked why we were charged so much. At this point, two of the employees there admitted that they knew that the cost of this medication was much more than it should be and they get complaints on it often, however, the owner of the clinic did not care and set the price that high because they want more money. Following that, we then went next door to one of the vets we called for a price comparison and paid the $116 and got our dogs the medication they needed for a much fairer price. Upon my boyfriends arrival home, I reviewed Waters Edge on their Facebook page. My review was obviously similar to this one and the following day, we received a phone call from someone from the clinic basically complaining about our review. We were told now that we were not over charged for the medication and that is just the cost of it, "Doxycycline is very expensive and that is just the cost of it" they insisted we must have gotten something different from the other vet clinic and that is why it was so much cheaper, however that was not the case as we got the same exact medication for our lab and an even better medication for our beagle than Waters Edge had prescribed her. We were also asked to take our review down because it was not correct. However, it very obviously is correct. I have invoices from both vet clinics to show the price difference as well as the fact we received the exact same medication from the new clinic we visited. read more

The whole team at Waters Edge is AMAZING!!!They have always treated me with such compassion and kindness. The first time I found them, every other vet in the area told me they didn't have time for my sick best friend, some saying she might not make it through the night. Dr. Pop not only made time, she told me to get there now. I credit this clinic with saving her life. They are always happy to answer my overprotective pet parent questions about everything as well. I feel like I ask too much of them! I will always recommend them to everyone I come across, they are an amazing team. read more

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. You will be overcharged. I was taken advantage of...please read my story. I never saw or talked to the vet during this whole process. My hope sharing this information is NO ONE else is taken advantage of. A bit lengthy but worth the read. I do not want to even give them 1 star. My mom passed on 11-14-20. I drove 16.5 hours from Colorado on 11-15-20. Brought my 10 week old puppy with me. On 11-16-20 she had a weight fall on her paw and cut her last digit. Waters Edge was recommended and not being able to find any other vet who could see my puppy I went there. They knew I was out of state in a desperate situation I was told they could not stitch her digit but it needed to be amputated! I was so distraught my state of mind so concerned with my puppy and my mom just passing I consented to whatever needed to be done to make sure she was OK. I was handed a bill for $3700. Not being a vet nor understanding all the charges I went ahead and charged to my credit card to have my puppy taken care of. I was going to be in the area for two weeks to help with my moms funeral plans. I had to call them that evening to find out how the "surgery" went. They did the "surgery", kept her overnight, put a cone on her (which was too small). I picked her up the next morning with instructions to take her to my vet in Colorado in two weeks to have the stitches removed. They instructed me to not cover her paw. Because of the small cone my puppy got to the area and got an infection. I called and went back in to have her looked at and requested a bigger cone. They put honey on it and covered it. They wanted to charge me for that visit but I told them I would not pay additional money a follow up should be included in the $3700 charge. I made sure they saw her two more times. I decided how to protect the area by putting a loose sock on her paw. Fast forward I took my puppy to my vet in Colorado. I asked my vet to review the bill with the records from Waters Edge. My vet examined her and she still had an infection. Waters Edge did not amputate her digit (charged $1500); only a nail removal. I was charged for anesthesia monitoring (4 line items) close to $700 with no report in her records for one of the line items (basically the charges were redundant). This should have been an outpatient procedure but they said she needed to stay overnight to be monitored. They did tell me there would not actually be staff there overnight. ($200) They were back in at 8am the next morning. I have recently called them to try and get a credit. They shut me down. Based on services not done and charging me I will be filing formal complaints with various organizations in Minnesota. The good news is my puppy has healed (thanks to my vet in Colorado).
