I cannot find the words to express my gratitude and appreciation for the Vets and staff at North Shoare. For over 20 years we have owned and trained British Labradors for hunting and trials. These people consistently go above and beyond the call. We have had them do house calls on a Saturday night, Skype us while hunting in Montana, and even visit with us while we were at work. We even had hourly updates after an incident with rat poison, all while we were in Ireland. Our pack of hunters will never go anywhere else. read more

My adopted dog has a lot of trauma. The staff seemed frustrated and were rude to me when their recommended suggestions were not successful. I felt sadness (and that I was failing my dog) after every interaction with the staff at North Shore. I do not recommend this vet for dogs with trauma. I found a different clinic whose staff is empathetic and are able to treat her with kindness, compassion and understanding. read more

20 years ago, the practice was a typical veterinary practice, where you called for an appointment or brought your pet in emergently and your pet was evaluated and treated. Then, they revamped their practice to fit in more rooms and got rid of the waiting room, forcing people to wait with their pets in the parking lot. North Shore is my go to primary vet for my pets. It's expensive but in the past I haven't minded paying that for above and beyond customer service, as it is a business after all. My problems with NSVH have started recently, with honestly really poor customer service and blatant rudeness from staff. When you have a staff member working the phone, as a business it's your job to make sure they are providing adequate service to the standard your clients pay for. I do not want to be cut off or interrupted, I do not want to be hung up on, I do not want to feel stupid or brushed off during my interactions because the woman working the phone wants to rush through my call. I can overlook rude phone service, but I can not overlook it when it comes to in person care as well. I am a young pet owner and I know it may be hard to take me seriously, but I think over the course of 7 appointments I have met maybe 4 vet techs/vets that have actually treated me like a person. I am a human that is worried for their pet, I may have questions and that's okay, but it is not okay for a business to allow rude or belittling behavior. I pay almost twice as much for the "exceptional" service NSVH claims is their practice, which is beginning to feel not worth it. Seriously, this place could be as great as it once was with a little extra attention to customer service! Also, talk to the morning shift phone staff; it's gotten to a point where they just aren't doing their job, and that's honestly poor management. read more

Had an appt for shots for our dog. Drove a long distance (an hour) to get to the appointment and called ahead to say we were running behind. They didn't tell us not to come and that they would make us reschedule until we got into the parking lot. I was there within the 15 minute time frame but they called back out and told me I had to reschedule. Waste of time, every appt prior I had been early for, and waited out in the car to be seen. I would understand if I did this more than once or they were extremely busy. The parking lot was almost empty this day. 3 cars total, including mine. Not worth it, if a veterinary office isn't willing to work with you there are better ones out there. read more

North Shore Veterinary Hospital is the best veterinary hospital I have been to. I have taken my pets to clinics in various cities in different states. The quality of care here is unequaled anywhere. The Dr's and staff truly care about the wellness of your pet. They take time to listen to your concerns and answer all your questions. They send you an email detailing their findings and everything that was discussed during the appointment. This is so helpful especially when explaining your pets condition to your family. In addition, I will forever appreciate the compassion shown when I made the decision to euthanize my dog. Dr. Ann Lind and the staff even sent our family a sympathy card with some very consoling words. We will continue trusting this clinic for the best healthcare for our beloved pets. read more

We just brought our new dog in to establish care and ask some questions. He has a history of not doing well at vet appointments but this was our first experience with him ourselves. When we called to make an appointment, we had a question about a fear free medication hat was previously used for him. The person who answered the phone was more than helpful and called us back with the vet's recommendation within a day. We were able to get an appointment in the early morning, which was recommended by North Shore because of his history of anxiety and aggression with vets. We were brought directly into a room after being weighed which already decreased Atlas' anxiety. Chelsea, our vet tech, was hands down the BEST vet tech we have ever met. She answered so many questions, was extremely knowledgeable, and made a connection with Atlas within minutes (which is harder than it sounds). We were worried (even though it's a fear free clinic) that staff would treat him negatively because of his (supposed) vet aggression, but Chelsea was a pro. Our vet, Dr. Lisa Jute, was also fantastic. She sat with us, getting to know Atlas and answering our neverending questions, for a full hour, never once rushing us. We will definitely be going back to North Shore for not only all of Atlas' future appointments, but will also be transferring our other dog's services to North Shore, as well. Thank you! read more

I have been taking my dogs to NSVH for 30 years! The staff and vets are always professional and knowledgeable, and yet they feel like family. I very much appreciate the relationships developed with my dogs and with me. It's obvious they genuinely care, and enjoy their professions. If I could give a 0 I would. We had been bringing our cats to Northshore for near 30 years. The present ownership and operation is not the Northshore veterinary clinic of old that was companionate and caring. In the last 6 months we have had the last 2 contacts both ended extremely negative. First ...earlier this Spring we brought our 19 yr old cat in as she was in pain from a suspected urinary infection. Our 25 yr old daughter brought her in and instead of treating or even confirming a urinary infection she was given a shot for arthritis and sent home with a $100 vial for arthritis injections. Upon her return we called and were told that they did not see a urinary infection yet we could clearly see a green discharge from her vaginal area. We ended up treating her for a urinary infection for 10 days with Ciprofloxin prescribed by another vet we contacted. My wife returned the $100 arthritis injection and was told that there was no refund possible even though we had not used it. Lastly...9 am Saturday 11/11/17 morning we contacted Northshore Veterinary Hospital (and I use HOSPITAL loosely) as this was still who we regarded as our Local Cats vets. We had waited till they opened Saturday morning to call. Our oldest cat Cola who is near 20 years old was having difficulty and we suspected she was extremely dehydrated or beginning to die from kidney failure. I explained the problem on the phone after identifying myself and which cat was having problems. I told the person answering the phone that she may just need an Iv for fluids for dehydration or that she may be failing as she had quit eating and drinking the night before and had a seizure too. We had been told that she was in partial kidney failure for the last few years and had her on a low protein diet. I was told that they were too busy and could not help us and was referred to the Emergency ER veterinary hospital. I thought Northshore was a veterinary hospital???? Guess not. We went to Affiliated Veterinary ER hospital on Michigan Street and were met by Dr Jonathan Hart DVM. He turned out to be the most companionate and caring vet we had ever met. Even though our cat did not make it I have nothing but high praise for the entire staff at Affiliated Veterinary Hospital. The entire staff was professional and caring in dealing with our pet. I have used this Vet since I was a kid. I have watched it grow, change. I would never bring my pets anywhere else but here. Everyone is kind and gentle with our girls (cats). The staff takes the time to learn about our girls and the Dr. always makes us feel like our girls are the only pets on earth. She is so gentle and loving with all of them. Some of our girls have issues but the staff are unfazed at hissing or growling and understand the stress our girls are under. I have had many small issues caught and resolved before they became big issues with all of our girls. I will never take them anywhere else but to North Shore Vet. read more

Overall good vet - I am reviewing from one poor experience. We took our dog in for a first time visit to get x-rays, and they identified his hip dysplasia. However, they failed to identify a very significant knee injury which was causing his limping (not the hip dysplasia). We sent the x-rays to another vet, and they identified the knee injury. I feel that North Shore Vet is a good clinic and practices good work, but I want to recommend that for significant injuries or injuries where surgery is recommended that folks send x-rays to 2-3 vets. Also, if anyone has a pet with a knee injury and is told to get TPLO - look into non-surgical treatment (see a physical therapist - I recommend Quality Touch with Marcia Swanson in Duluth). Dogs will heal fully naturally with physical therapy and rest, but arthritis may come on sooner in life to the injured area than if surgery is performed. TPLO is widely practiced, but it is more invasive than TTA. If you choose TPLO, read a lot about it and having the plate removed post surgery. TTA and TPLO are for large dogs, while there is a less expensive and less invasive surgery for smaller dogs. I recommend non-surgical options. Vets make a lot of money off of TPLO and they bring in a special surgeon to perform it. I would consult several vets and physical therapists until you hear from someone that isn't pushing surgery. read more

North Shore Vet has been amazing in all the years I've been coming. They took care of our first small dog Mugsy, including her last minutes, were we held her in our arms. Doc Ann Lind is fantastic!!! We are new dog parents and our dog is 11 months old now. We have taken him to this Vet for most of his vaccinations, although I wish we hadn't. The staffing is nice, but didn't seem 100% sure anytime we had a question. The Vet we saw always said "it's been a while since I've had a puppy" every time we had a concern about something. Since we are new to having a new dog, we weren't positive on exactly what vaccines he needed, which is what the Vet is for! To keep you informed and knowledgable on what is needed! They didn't tell us anything about his heartworm results, what he needs for it, or a bordetella shot incase he needs to go to daycare. We recently switched Vet's and they let us know what he is missing and gave great recommendations. Definitely would not recommend going to North Shore Vet!!!!!!!!! read more

This is where Monks got all of her puppy shots and beyond. This was our main vet for almost two years and they were wonderful. They are extremely patient and great with all different animals. It was far from our home but if we still lived here it would be where we would go. With all the tick issues Minnesota mutts face in the summer they are open Saturday mornings so you can come in and have a vet do your vaccinations and save $ by not seeing a vet. Even my aunts cat "likes" (puts up with) this vet and Smokey doesn't like anyone! read more

I brought my dog here four separate times regarding some urination issues. The first time they told me she had a false pregnancy and recommended some antibiotics, which showed no results. The second time they told me it was behavioral and recommended using an air spray I could buy from them at a spendy price. The third time they told me she "probably" had mammary masses that were fatal, and told me to keep her comfortable until end of life. When I went in for the fourth check up to see how the masses were doing, they then told me that she had an uterus infection that if not treated immediately would cause death. So I take her to another surgeon in town and get her spayed, only to for him to say that she now has a hernia. This poor dog has been in pain since June and this vet was not competent enough to realize that something was seriously wrong with her on four different visits. I voiced concern to the vet about this and she shook me off and treated me as though I was a bad pet owner for not getting her spayed sooner. For a young person who doesn't know much about the veterinary practice, I trusted that a professional would have noticed sooner than I. Will a negative review help heal the pain that my dog has gone through, or the emotional whirlwind I've dealt with? Probably not, but I can only hope that others won't have to endure such a scenario as this. Take your dogs elsewhere!!! P.S. This is the most expensive vet in town and certainly not worth it. read more
