We are long time customers over 30 years. We have spent thousands of dollars there because their sponge candy and turtles are a family favorite. The Elmwood store manager blamed me for the chocolates being inedible, mind you the only bad bag we have gotten ever. She asked me to send them back never once offering a refund or replacement. When I asked her name she hung up on me. We spent over $100 yesterday as per ususal. There are no words to describe this woman's behavior. My husband were their neighbors long ago. I was taking a stroll after having a good lunch at the taco place couple of shops down. The first thing that caught my eye was the board that said sponge candy. I had never heard of it and decided to give it a try. The lady was so courteous, kind and offered me a sample of the sponge candy. It was so light and a true melt in the mouth. This may be my new go-to place to pick up sponge candy when in town (okay, this may depend on my wife). I had gone to my normal candy store (not Watson's) and they were out and not making any due to the humidity. So I quickly panicked and sought out other other nearby options. Watson's was a couple miles away, so I trekked on. I could not return to California w/o my wife's favorite candy. I'm not sure who helped me (manager?), but she was extremely helpful. Yes, they had the dark chocolate sponge candy I sought out. When I told her I was taking the candy back home to my wife, she told me the box wouldn't travel as well, so she stirred me to two 1/2 lb bags (which she gave me for the same price as a 1 lb box). She gave me specific instructions to care for the delicate candy so it'd be preserved in it's pristine taste/condition. I even got a sample when I told her my usual pick up spot was out. I'm not a sponge candy fan, but this was outstanding. I even got a law enforcement discount (she asked if I was military, no...but law enforcement and that was good too). Yes, I took extreme caution w/ the candy to ensure it made it home okay. My wife loved it, but wouldn't commit to say it was better than her usual. Still, that means it's a winner. Customer service was outstanding. Thanks for all the help. We're back in October, I'll try to sway her way back to this location. read more

While this is my favorite candy store, I am disappointed in the pricing policy. If one buys a pound of one kind of candy(Sponge candy, for example) the price per pound changes if one buys a lesser amount. A pound of sponge is currently priced at $22.95; a 1/2 pound package is priced at $11.95 and a quarter pound costs $6.50. This means a 1/2 pound is really costing $23.90/lb; a 1/4 lb. is equal to $26.00/lb. If one were to buy several 1/4 lb. packages, possibly for gifts, one would spend $3.00 dollars per pound extra for the privilege of having separately bagged packages of sponge candy. I do not understand why one cannot simply buy 1/4 or 1/2 lb. of candy right from the window displays and have them weighed out at the pound price? I am pretty sure this is how it used to be priced. read more

Bought a 1 lb box of mixed dark and milk chocolate sponge candy for my husband's birthday at Depew store on Transit and so far over half are stale tasting and sponge sticking to teeth. Watson's has been around longer than one can remember. This location must be one of the oldest locations. The place looks and smell great. The gal that helped us was very helpful and friendly. Their chocolate is very good but if you want the best thing they make then you must get the sponge candy. Either milk or dark they have perfected this delicious treat. We go through several boxes a year as they know how to package and ship the sponge candy so it will not get damaged during shipment. read more

Ok, I have been a Watson's customer for years. Today I stopped in to the Delaware Rd. Location to pick up some Valentine Chocolate. This location is usually pretty busy and it was today which is fine. I grabbed a box of sponge candy from the shelf and proceed to what I thought was the line to checkout. Here started the problem. There is no semblance of any checkout line in this store. There are people hovering all over the four sides of the service area which is located in the middle of the store. A lot of people are lost in space and cannot think for themselves so the just hover around. I saw an older gentleman who came in the store while I was in line to check out. He was hovering at the end of the counter near the front door. A clerk then said I can help who's next which would have been me and he proceeded to go to her which was rude but expected. I then walked over to stand behind him as I was next in line before he went in front of me. I liken it to the driver who sees the lane closed one mile ahead but then tries to move over at the last second, I don't let that driver in. So the clerk who is ringing out this gentleman says to me, "sir, the line starts over there"; to which I replied "I know, I was next in line before this guy cut in front of me". At which point both the clerk and the guy look at me like I have three heads, because I actually spoke up and called him out on his rudeness. I then set my chocolates on the counter and walked out the door. I WILL NOT be back!!! This happened to me a Christmas time also. Here is some advice to that store.... Have a designated area that says "line forms here for checkout" & have a designated person there to ring people out even though most people don't pay attention to signs like that because they are rude and feel entitled or both or are just plain stupid. It may help. I really can't blame the store employees because they have enough going on to also have to keep track of who was next in line. I can say that I'm tired of rude people and will call them out on it whenever the situation arises. I don't like to put up negative reviews & I know there are bigger problems in the world but I've pretty much had it with this kind of stuff. I know Watson's wont loose any business & probably wont change a thing at that store but at least I got my opinion out there. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to there. read more

Will NEVER return to this location!!!! My boyfriend got me a bag of sponge candy for our anniversary. I'm a huge fan of Watsons sponge candy, and have had it for years (so I'm well aware of how good it's supposed to be.) When I took a piece and bit into it, it was completely stale, and sticking to my teeth. The next morning, my boyfriend went to bring it back and nicely said that we love their sponge candy but this batch was stale. The lady working was so incredibly rude, rolling her eyes at him and insisting that it wasn't stale. She made him feel horrible and would not refund the item. They have not just the regular m&m's and Sprinkles and such, but also some of their own delicious chocolate! Their chocolate is really tasty as well! They have beautiful chocolates, and lots of nice gift boxes as well. I always buy the dark chocolate sponge candy from the Ellicottville, NY location as I used to live there about 1 mile from the store. I now live in DFW, Texas the last several years and still order the candy online and have it shipped. Till this day it is the best I have had and will have. This location is the best the chocolate is excellent at all the locations but the service is the best at the location on Delaware Avenue and Elizabeth is wonderful nice and clean environment and she was so kind to give me free samples and make sure I had everything I needed love me some Watson's every time I come to town cuz I am from here but I live in Virginia where they have no clue what sponge candy is so every time I come home I can get my fix of sponge candy. In my opinion, Watson's is the only acceptable place to get chocolate from. My favorites are their sponge candy, peanut butter filled miniatures, and chocolate covered pretzels. They are on the pricier side so I only get a little bit at a time. But the chocolate is far superior to other places in Buffalo. It has a richer taste and the peanut butter miniatures (which are my fav) are so creamy!! They just opened a new location, still on Delaware, however much bigger. Additionally they have added in self serve ice cream machines. And I thought Watson's couldn't get any better! However, they still everything they used to sell at the old location. I have been a customer and always gone to Watson's for go to chocolate. Fri Apr 27th, having a Chocolate Sundae party. They were out of jarred Hot Fudge sauce. Yet, they have for their soft serve ice cream, Asked if I could just buy a container sauce, she said they didn't do that. Go round and round, to get an answer how much their ice cream and sauce was in containers. She said it varied. On What? How much is it. Terrible, snob, no business sense. I have been a customer of Watsons since in a High Chair. My Mom could always get fudge in container to go. I went to Contrells up the street, said of course they could sell a container of hot fudge. It was disappointing. I think the sales person should go, to something non retail, customer service oriented. I know The original owner, would remember our name, that is how loyal our family was.
