I have been going to Parkside Kandie since I was very little, the place hasn't changed much except for the prices went up a lot. I used to go in there for ice cream sundaes all the time with my mom and they were always so good and I'm sure they're still the same way. They have a nice selection of chocolates in there. They have a lot of sponge candy. Milk, chocolate, dark, chocolate, and orange sponge candy. They have tables inside so you can sit down and eat your sundae or whatever else you order. They have all different kinds of candy, not just limited to chocolate. Like I said, they are expensive, but I think that goes with any specific candy store. I wanted to buy so many things in there, but did not have the money to do it. My family took me and my kids to Parkside on Main St in Buffalo for Father's Day in June 2025. It was wonderful to see the old place nicely restored. It is a beautiful and classic setting for which to enjoys some ice cream sundaes, candy, lunch, etc. It was recently restored mostly in 2017. Perfect spot for a charming date as well. We were seated at a large table, and presently with a sampler of sponge candy while we pondered what to order. I thought the service was extremely friendly, and very good. Well my wife called today about an issue spoke to Connie. First the issue was a box we opened and had a long curly hair in it. We spent a few hundred on chocolate for us to enjoy and it was delicious. We did throw the one box away we get it stuff can happen in food service. Now Connie did offer a replacement box but after saying it wasnt possible lol. Now mind you I dont need a refund or a free box but I will tell you the way Connie talked to my wife and handled this situation is inexcusable. Not sure if there's another candy store in Buffalo with such an old fashion art deco style than Parkside Candy. The store is almost 100 years old (opened 1927) and in 2017 was restored to it's original glory. It appears that there is now work going on with the factory but not sure of the details. Walking inside give you the instant feeling of going back in time. Not sure which jumped out at me more, the beautiful checkered floor or the amazing ceiling. Then you look around at the cute booths, ice cream stand, and cases of candy, all in a circular design around the room with beautiful woodwork, paint colors, and wallpaper. I'm not much of a candy eater so my review is mostly about the atmosphere and experience though I did buy a small box of various kinds to try. Didn't try the ice cream. Ah, the memories of going to this gorgeous, old-fashioned ice cream parlor that I'd forgotten was quite close to my late great aunt's home on Winspear Avenue. The thick chocolate fudge on top of ice cream was the stuff of dreams and that goes double for an upstate New York thing, sponge candy. (I learned it's also a thing in Minnesota or Wisconsin, maybe a blizzard climate thing, I digress). So my beloved heard the longing in my voice and knowing I'm not a sweets person, he realized this sponge candy was special to me- so he had two boxes shipped off to San Francisco. I'd forgotten how heavenly this candy is, made by hand in the Parkside Candy factory behind the ice cream parlor. Crunchy, almost fizzy, as it melts on your tongue with a rich caramel goodness that's like no other. Milk or dark chocolate? I'll take dark chocolate, please. They were a little short staffed, but we still were able to order rather quickly. I got a salted caramel sundae with hot fudge and it was delicious. Apparently, the ice cream is homemade there. Best grilled cheese ever (the kids said), and the sundaes are classically satisfying (spooning partially melted ice cream and syrup out of a cold metal bowl is one of life's great experiences). The chocolates we tried were all excellent (peanut butter cups a highlight), and sponge candy is an airy revelation - though it's kind of overwhelmed in a sundae, better to eat it on its own. Interior was restored in 2017 and is absolutely gorgeous, a time machine to another century. The store is absolutely beautiful. It's probably what I'd a younger crowd would call "vintage". And it actually truly is because Parkside Candy has been open during the years grandparents were still alive. The food was a disappointment. The presentation was wonderful, but the taste of the candy did not match. I had a taste of the sugar-free gummies and a dark chocolate bar. The sugar-free gummies were sweetened with aspartame, a sugar substitute. Beware that aspartame has some risk of gastrointestinal side effects. Other than that, the gummies were too hard. Like they've been sitting at the display case for days before I bought it. The dark chocolate bar was not very dark either. I ended up shredding the chocolate on top of my pancakes because it didn't have the bitterness that I seek out in the dark chocolate. I prefer a grocery store brand of dark chocolate than the dark chocolate from Parkside. The population is mostly made of more elderly ladies and their young grandchildren. They came here for an ice cream sundae, so I guess I should've looked at what the natives eat before I bought some actual candies. Parking sucks like it always does near a University. But come here before 6, and you'll have an easy time with parking as long as you are fine with parallel parking. Parkside also isn't busy during that time, so you kill two birds with one stone. read more

How have I lived in Buffalo for over a year and only just came to Parkside Candy? Blasphemy, that's how. We took my out of state parents here on Sunday because my mom constantly has to buy candy for my nephews (and luckily me since I was here) and this place blew them away! The old school pop shop look when you walk in is the ultimate form of nostalgia. The candy bar wraps around and gives you countless options to fix that sweet tooth you are eventually going to get a cavity on. On the opposite side of the place is the ice cream bar which I mustered enough strength not to walk over too (at least today). I hope it happens soon because chunks look ready to fall to the sidewalk below. Unfortunately, an experience here is all about the ambience of a bygone era. Enjoy it. Breathe it in because the menu is incredibly small and the ice cream is ordinary. With such a spectacular interior, the central space is frustratingly cluttered with tables of chocolate. I ordered peanut butter cups from Parkside Candy and had them shipped directly to my mom for Mother's Day this year. They indicated that there may be delays due to COVID19 which I expected. We sat down for table service ice cream. I ordered a root beer float. It came with the ice cream on top of the cup so you got the joy of pushing in down into the soda. Which was a little messy but fun. You also got a another side glass of root beer for when you drank down the other root beer. My husband ordered a milkshake and loved it. If you're looking for a place to leave your car, and Main Street is packed with no spots open... just do what the name tells you. "Park" down the "Side". Duh! I'm serious actually. If you go down the street right next to PSC (that's my new acronym for Parkside Candy) then you'll see a little, old, weird lot behind the building, that is perfectly adequate for you to leave your car in. You can park there! Right on the side! Isn't that awesome?! Great! Now... Don't say I never did anything for you! Set in an old movie theater, it's vital that you walk in here just to experience it. It's like nowhere else you'll go, you feel like you're going back in time to old school Buffalo. I absolutely loved the experience. There's another Parkside further north, Colvin north of Sheridan I think, but it's nowhere near as cool looking as this one. That has nothing to do with the products though, so we'll move on to those. Parkside Candy is a really, really awesome store. I quite like the Sponge Candy from here, though I wouldn't say it's off the charts amazing by any means. I also tried some of the fudge from here, and it was pretty good, although I didn't finish it. I have yet to try their ice cream and milkshakes but I will definitely give them a try next time I am around. You have to visit PC if only for the atmosphere, as previously described. The employees aren't always as friendly as they are at certain other chocolate shops (cough cough, Condrells), but it's well worth a trip just to check out the amazing old building and the large selection of cool things. read more
