All that know me understand how finicky I am and don't let just anyone touch my hair. I was going to my previous stylist for over 20 YEARS! I've had my hair done by Aysia on several occasions and was pleasantly surprised. After having a full consultation (I need to express EXACTLY how I want my hair, so there is no misunderstanding), I received a balayage on my black curly hair. I had to go back for a touch up, because of my jet black hair, but that was okay. She informed me from the beginning that it would need another session. It's the same process I had to go through with my previous stylist last year. I left feeling like Jennifer Lopez! The process took a while, but I'm used to it because of my dark hair. Now that I have the highlights, touch ups will be a breeze. I've gone to many stylists to try and blow dry this curly mop that I have and only 2 people out of many could actually get it straight. Aysia is one of them. I like my hair blow dried a specific way and she did exactly as I asked. I've found over the years, if you know what you want-be specific. I'm meticulous with my hair to say the least. The salon employees are extremely friendly, positive, and helpful. They are well equipped with hand sanitizer and masks, if you need one- felt very comfortable going there during this unconventional time. Overall, wonderful experience! Jessica made me cry on my wedding day. I arrived for my 9:00 AM blowout appointment and was immediately informed that my stylist was not there. I took a seat and waited. Around 9:10 AM, I asked the receptionist if she had an estimated arrival time, just to make sure she was still coming. I was told that the stylist had said she would be there soon. At approximately 9:15 AM, Jessica arrived with a fresh coffee in hand. She did not acknowledge me as she got settled and prepared her workstation. Around 9:18 AM, she finally invited me over and asked "what do you want". I explained that I believed I had booked a blowout with hot rollers. I had called about six weeks earlier to make the appointment because I couldn't book that service through the online system. Jessica told me she didn't have hot rollers and could only use a curling iron. I declined the curling iron but said I would still like to proceed with the blowout. She asked me a few questions about how I wanted my hair styled. Since this was my first professional blowout, I answered as best I could, though I didn't have strong opinions on every detail. I then said, "If it's okay with you, we can skip the wash." My hair was still damp from my shower, and my makeup was done, so I was simply trying to preserve it. Jessica appeared to take this personally. She responded abruptly, saying something along the lines of, "I can tell you're irritated with me for being late. I drove an hour to get here and recently had a procedure, so I'm moving slow." I was completely caught off guard and replied that I hadn't said anything to suggest I was upset. She insisted it was my "energy" and repeatedly asked whether I wanted her to continue or if I wanted someone else to do my hair because I was "clearly irritated" with her. Throughout the conversation, she continued explaining why she had been late. After being asked multiple times if I wanted another stylist, I finally agreed that I no longer wanted her to do my hair because she had made me feel so uncomfortable. I called my fiancé to come pick me up and ended up crying outside, ruining all of my wedding makeup. The receptionist kindly came outside to check on me and even suggested other salons. Unfortunately, there were no other stylists available. By that point, I had less than an hour before I needed to leave for my civil ceremony, and I had to redo my makeup, dry my hair, and style it myself. Scheduled to have my hair pinned up. for a wedding. When I arrived they had me down for "curls". I had already washed, dried and curled my hair. All that was needed was to be pulled up but they refused to do it because my appointment was set for "curls". I ended up doing it myself and it took 10 minutes to do. Customer service and accommodating clients are not on the agenda at this salon. I would not recommend. read more

My new Babe extensions look absolutely wonderful. My hair is so much thicker and easier to manage. I follow up with regular blowouts and feel like I had brand new extensions every time I walk in the door. Jess also added color to my daughter's hair with some simple beads which was such a game changer. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am! I went to another local salon. After a crappy haircut and a botched hair color job I came in a total mess. When I wanted to go blonde I came out looking like a copper tea kettle with black roots. Because the previous person toned my hair 4 times I had to clarify my hair for 3 weeks. she spent 2 visits test coloring on strands of my hair. Finally we got a nice cut and color. She made me look normal and gave my hair volume. She spent two visits not charging me and giving me soo much time and kindness to help me. What a great salon and owner. Since I live in Newport for the summer, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a reliable salon that would match up to the one I go to in Boston. However, when I found Wavelengths, I knew I stumbled upon somewhere really amazing! The salon is clean and modern, with a calming blue color palette and relaxing environment to match. It is conveniently located in the Bellevue Gardens Shopping Center, which has ample parking space that can be validated by the salon following your appointment. It is very easy to reserve an appointment by phone, and they also take reservations through an online form on their website. Bronte is great, and she is my go-to aesthetician for eyebrow waxing. I also had my hair cut and styled here a couple of times, all with wonderful results. Wavelengths offers a blowout-only hairstyling option similar to Drybar, and this is very useful considering that at press time, there isn't a Drybar in Rhode Island. -I made an appointment for July 11th at 12:30 for a hair coloring earlier in the week of July. A few days later, they called back and apologized and explained they doubled booked me by accident and asked me to come in at 2:30PM that day. I readily agreed. When I got there (on time) for 2:30PM on Sat July 11th they realize they made a mistake and booked me for a manicure. They told me they had another appointment with Aysia (who they said is the best at color) on Friday July 17th at 12:30PM. On July 11th, I received a nice gel manicure from Ashley and it was a lovely experience. Without any prompting, Dee (the owner) comped my manicure due to their mix up with scheduling. -On July 17th at 12:30PM, I returned for an appointment with Aysia for a hair coloring. I was very excited to get my hair colored after so long . Aysia was nice. I explained what I would like and showed a picture. I explained how I usually get highlights/balayage but was ok with even a full color that's lighter brown than what I had currently and would not like roots to show. I wasn't overly concerned because I've been doing this for years. I also I thought it was pretty straight forward. Aysia agreed and started foiling all my hair. It took a really longtime, which was probably the first red flag. When I asked if this was normal, she said a normal balayage for them takes 4hrs which I never heard of before. -Even though it was taking a very longtime, I wasn't upset at that point. I was just hoping for a good outcome. After the foiling was finished, I realized Aysia bleached all my hair blond. I internally freaked out and could not understand why they would do that when that never before has that ever happened to me to achieve the results I was looking for. Long story short, I very uncomfortable through the rest of the time. They ended up using a toner that was too light (not the color they showed me at all) and my hair looked crazy. I had dark ends and dark roots and the middle of my hair was a spotty and brownish/blond after the first toner. My hair looked fried from the bleach they used. She made my roots look worse. At this point it was getting at the 5hr mark and I was very upset because it was clear they didn't know what they were doing. Dee (the owner) came over and started helping Aysia and was very apologetic and nice. They kept on saying it was a balayage and I explained what I thought a balayage was and explained the definition on the internet but they kept on balayage could mean so many different things. I don't know hair terminology well but all I knew is that they did a horrible job. They said it was because they had never worked on my hair before. But if that's the case, I wish they would have said they aren't taking new clients . For the second toner, I gave up and asked them to match my ends which were dark brown but they ended up turning by hair black. Dee (the owner) was very apologetic, gave me a gift bag with hair repair shampoo and conditioner (I'll def need it after this experience) and didn't charge me. My shirt was ruined from their products even through the robe I was wearing - which again was an indication they had no idea what they were doing. It was a terribly uncomfortable situation for all involved. I left disappointed and shocked that a salon that bad could still be in business. All in all I wish I had NEVER gone and completely regret everything about that experience. read more

Booo, so not a fan. Going to this salon was literally the worst decision I made out of all of the decisions I made for my wedding. A number of things went wrong, which I understand can happen. However, when a stylist spoke to me in a very rude manner and made me cry on my wedding day and the owner nor the stylist took responsibility for the inappropriate behavior that is when they really lost their stars. And I'm not even a crier, I don't know the last time I have cried. I was majorly disappointed with their unprofessionalism. Another lame moment, when they charged me $90 total for my flower girls who are 2 and 3 years old to get their nails painted, even though I have an email letting me know it would be less than that price. I got a blow dry and curl here for a friend's wedding in Newport. We came across this salon the day before the wedding on a run to CVS. The receptionist told us it was $40 for the blow out plus $10 for curling. We said that was fine. We get there the next day (making sure not to wash our hair so we could do it there) and apparently they didn't even schedule enough time for us to have a wash too. So the stylist rushed us since our hair hadn't been shampooed purposefully. And then I got charged $70 for the entire affair. We were so rushed that I didn't have time to argue about the $50 that we were promised. Seriously $70 for a wash-dry-half curl? It's either a horrible value or they charged us extra for no great reason. I really liked my stylist - she was fantastic - but one of the store owners or whatever kept on asking to take pictures of our hair. First we were in a rush, and second, it's a frickin blow dry, why would you want pictures of something so simple? So that was really annoying frankly. read more

I had a same day appointment with Mallory for a balayage color, cut, and style. I have very dark hair and was apprehensive about how the color would turn out but Mallory did a fantastic job. The entire appointment was three hours, and Mallory was very fastidious about blending in the color, ensuring that my final look was lightened up in a incredibly natural-looking. Don't waste your time or money here. We were rushed through our appointment and didn't receive the hair style we wanted. It fell out within 15 minutes of the appointment. When we told the salon what happened, they simply told us it wasn't their problem and there was nothing they could do. Made my appointment for 2pm and when I arrived at the place they told my my appointment would have to be postponed by 30 minutes because Jennifer Lawerence's family was getting their hair and makeup done for her wedding there. A call ahead would've been nice especially considering the fact that I did not only wait 30 minutes for my appointment but rather an hour. It seemed as though every time I was told "only five more minutes" an extra 30 got tacked on. I am extremely disappointed by this and will not be making an appointment here again. They have wonderful products(Bumble and Bumble) that they use on their customers...which to me is important. No respect for your time. Made a hair appt, they called and pushed it 30 mins. Showed up at the new time and the hair dresser had taken another client and had to wait another 20 mins. I made an appt for a reason, to not wait around. Have some common courtesy for your client's time and plan your appts accordingly. Inexcusable in my opinion, regardless of your ability to cut hair. Made an appointment for their signature manicure - $25. When I made the appointment, not asked any questions about what state my nails were in or if anything was on them, just scheduled my time. I sit down and the nail tech realized I had gel polish on that needed to me removed and she said, "You were just booked for a basic manicure." I said I didn't know it was an additional service. No one had said anything to me and I just thought, if I come in for a manicure part of the service was to remove the polish on there. She was very nice about it and said "oh its not. It just takes a bit more time because you have to soak and they didn't schedule that time in." I apologized that I didn't know. No further mention of it. Then, manicure over...not he best I've ever had. Color came out really streaky and I had been eyeing it while she was doing it but just thought she would fix it in the end. Nope but hey...gift card so whatever. Let it go. Then I realize...wait. She didn't even put any lotion on my hands. Not a drop. Weird but maybe that was their basic manicure...nail shaping and polish only. Go to the counter and, while I am waiting to pay, read their description of the service and was supposed to get lotion. So I asked why I didn't. The receptionist said, "well since she had to soak your nails she had to shave time off your manicure to stay on time." Umm...so you cut my service but still charged me the same? What? Oh no? You're charging me $5 more for the gel removal. I thought she said it wasn't a separate service but...okay. So you charged full price for both "services" but I didn't get full service. So you can cut my time and service but not consider it a swap with the gel removal and the lotion? Then, the receptionist said, "it's really important you tell the scheduler that you have gel polish on because they have to build removal in to the appointment." My response? "Well no one mentioned that to me so how am I supposed to that? You're the ones providing the service so my expectation would be that you mention that. And no one did." I understand that there were multiple factors in play here and it can be boiled down to a lack of communication. However, if one is in a service industry, one needs to be aware of the effect customer service has on the overall experience. I could have and would have looked past the streaky polish and the lack of lotion...if a simple service gesture had been made. "Apologies for the misunderstanding. But since we had to remove gel polish, we have to cut out the moisturizing component of your manicure. But since we're cutting that, we won't charge you for the gel removal. We'll consider it a swap." They stay on time. I get a fully rounded, well communicated experience and can understand that accommodations had to be made. Simple service gesture. Oh, and I could've done with less "you're dumb and should've known what we didn't tell you" attitude from the receptionist. In the end, no matter how well the actual service could have turned out...if a business has such basic poor customer service, I won't return. So, the gift card gave them a chance to gain a new customer but they won't be. Two stars simply because my nail tech was so nice and pleasant. read more

I used Wavelengths recently for my wedding and I was very happy with the service. Rachel did my hair and she is AMAZING!!! She knew what I wanted and was able to execute the style completely; i was so excited!!! She's also very friendly and easy to work with. My bridesmaids all looked great; i can't remember who they worked with but everyone looked stunning. my biggest fear working with any salon was a group of 30 somethings walking out with prom hair! The team here was excellent and professional; they know what they are doing. I'd recommend for special events. read more

I go see Maya for my lashes and she does exactly what I want and they last- which was an issue I had experienced before... not with Maya! In addition, wherever I go I get complimented on my lashes. I also see Ashley Rose for my facials, she not only has the LED Light Treatment but her facials are relaxing and my face doesn't feel dirty from all of the oils after, my face feels soft and like the facial did something. I had my wedding hair and makeup done at Wavelengths, and couldn't have been happier! Newport was a destination wedding for us, so I had a trial run done at a different salon back home, and then the actual hair and makeup at Wavelengths. I sent Wavelengths pictures from my trial run so they would know what I was looking for, and when I arrived on my wedding day for hair & makeup, I was pleasantly surprised that they had the pictures all printed out, and waiting at the respective hair and makeup stations. They also knew exactly what I liked and didn't like about my trial run at the other salon from my earlier correspondence with them. I was really impressed--they were so prepared, and this instantly put me at ease and set a good tone. The owner, D'Ann, did a side swept look for my hair, and Natalie, a licensed aesthetician, did my makeup. I was incredibly happy with both--it was exactly what I wanted. They asked questions along the way and communicated what they were doing so that we were able to make adjustments and get the perfect outcome. They were really personable and made me feel comfortable the whole time, and they also clearly both had the right experience to know how to make a bride look great on her big day. I have very curly, thick medium length hair. Mallory did a fabulous job with my blowout for a holiday party. In 45 minutes, my naturally curly hair was unrecognizable- incredibly smooth with just the right amount of loose curls at the end. My hair did not frizz at all that rainy night, and still looked like I stepped out of wavelengths after flying home to the west coast the next evening.
