Truly one of the worst haircuts I have ever gotten. I was in town for a wedding and decided to get a haircut in addition to a blowout. For $95, Cyan cut off 3 inches as opposed to the .5 (yes HALF) an inch that I requested. I asked for just a trim and clean up my long layers. The haircut is choppy, totally uneven, when I put it in a ponytail (which is pretty much all the time in summer!) there's one random strand dangling out that looks totally ridiculous. This was one of the biggest wastes of money ever. I could have gotten a better haircut for $25 at a beauty school. read more

Found this place on Yelp and have been coming here for over six months now. April always does a fabulous job and makes my hair look amazing each time. They just moved to their new location and it is amazing. Everything is new and trendy but on top of that they serve you wine if you would like while your hair is processing. Beware of online booking. I requested a makeup appointment as I was in town for a wedding. I used the online form which said I would receive a confirmation that my request was accepted. Never got an email or a text from them. Then the day of the wedding they charged me $95 for a no show. When I told them they never confirmed, they charged my card anyway! My daughter asked for advice how to make her hair lighter while she was getting a haircut and was told to try toning($65+). We showed up to toning appointment, but was told that toning would actually make her hair darker and if we wanted, we could make another appointment for highlights($130+) or balayage another day, because there was no time same day. We told her we'd think about it. After we left, hairdresser tried to charge my card for cancellation fee. We didn't cancel, they told us wrong service and after a conversation with manager on the phone, it seems like they tried to get away with making it our fault for canceling when in fact we showed up and they didn't explain services correctly in first place. Why mention toning if it doesn't do what we wanted? And to charge a cancellation fee...That's pretty shitty. read more

I first heard of Lockstar Salon when I purchased a groupon. After going here to do hair (which I loved) I made an appointment to have Tamara do my make up for a Halloween party. I was dressing as Cleopatra and I looked on line for pictures and sent them to Tamara letting her know what I wanted done. She did an absolutely AMAZING job. I do not normally use a lot of make up so I was a bit nervous about going dramatic but she did such a great job, it came out perfect and the make up she used was light and did not feel heavy at all. I looked flawless and nothing came off or smeared the entire night even though I danced and got sweaty. I have dyed my hair one color with a cut by Tamara. I have also had an appointment with April during the week for highlights and a cut and I have never been disappointed. I would definitely recommend Lockstar. You will not be dissappointed read more

It took over two weeks after multiple requests to be contacted by management after a dissatisfactory experience. Not a great customer service experience. Once management finally called, it felt aggressive and argumentative and the owner refused to listen to feedback was unwilling to address satisfaction. I am new in town and visited this particular salon for the first time. I arrived about 30 mins early understanding that I would have to wait, but the stylist was 15 mins late. Another stylist washed me and I sat in the stylist's whom I was scheduled with for about 10 min with wet hair until she arrived. When making the appointment, I expressed that I had natural ethnic hair. It was obvious that neither one of the stylists were familiar with my type of hair. It cost me $45 for a simple wash and blow dry. The stylist did flat iron, which I usually do not get. Due to the way my hair was blow dried I had no choice but to get it flat ironed. Buyer beware! The price list states the cost at $40 which is reasonable and that is what I'm accustomed to paying. I was alarmed and frankly pissed when I was charged a 40% mark up because it was Sunday $65. That is completely unacceptable and a terrible customer experience. My stylist was Tamara. I had a pedicure and manicure upstairs, they have a comfortable room that they do that in which was nice. She did a good job with that. I also had my hair washed and styled. I told her my hair doesnt hold curls well when i do it at home, and she didnt know how or even TRY to make the curls stay in, 'If that's the way your hair is, there's no use trying' she says. so that was NO help. i left with a nice style, just without the curls i wanted it :( Then she did my make-up, the first look she gave me was very dramatic, so I told her I dont like it and she said "well aren't you trying to look beautiful?" I said yes, but its just not me. She got very offended and sassy with me "well i dont know what you want, i dont know what else to do." so she only had ONE idea in mind for my makeup, and this lady's been doing it for 30 years...? i finally did her job for her and told her exactly how to do my makeup and ended up wiping most of it off because of how much it smeared from her not setting it in. Waste of $45. disappointed. The other women were very nice there, offered me wine, made sure i was happy before i left. I think the salon is great, i just would NOT recommend that specific stylist. Nice lady, just not friendly, professional, or knowledgable in her job at all. another tip: they dont do brazilian waxes. read more

I scheduled an appointment to get my hair done for the Navy Ball this evening and the staff was so incredible, from scheduling all the way to actually getting my hair styled. I had an incredible experience and April did an amazing job with my hair! I am so happy with the results. I brought clip-on hair extensions and twist-in flowers and she was able to get everything in for me! I look forward to the next time I need to get my hair done so I can come here! read more

First off I would like to say this salon is way over priced! I went to them to strip my hair which I understand is very damaging and risky... that's where the problem started, it took a total of 8 hours from start to finish and after spending the entire day at the salon the owner of the salon tried to charge me more money than expected when I came in for a consultation! My hair was beyond damaged! A month goes by and it looks like horse hay, my hair is ripping out from just the watering hitting it! I went back ( big mistake) and she charged me an arm and a leg to FIX THEIR PROBLEM! All in all I have a boy hair cut when I went in with long beautiful hair! April did my hair and it turned out wonderful!!! Exactly how I wanted it and she made the experience great. She recommended a shampoo that would keep the bronze my my blonde which I hate when that happens. I also had my first spray tan ever with Brooke and she made me feel really comfortable! She did an amazing job and I would recommend everyone check this place out! The shop is so adorable and modern and very clean. I would say they need to fix the front door, being an older building I think has caused the door to jam and it makes it hard to open. I thought it was locked at first. My sister had an absolutely horrible experience here, where she was blatantly ripped off. She is 16 years old and got her hair dyed, and despite her asking for the price beforehand (and being quoted less than $200) the price tag was upwards of $300 with a reasonable tip. She was never offered a consultation or told that the pricetag would be this expensive, and it seemed she was taken advantage of because she was young and alone. When my mom later inquired about the price, the response was something along the lines of "prices vary according to hair texture, length, etc." (she has very normal textured hair, on the straighter side and medium length) and that she was offered a consultation when this never happened. The final result was fine, but not great, still pretty streaky and uneven. Definitely not worth the price tag when other salons in Newport do a far better job (try Frank Antonio's) for a better price. Really dissappointing they would take advantage of a young customer. Really, it's hard to understand why a basic balayge job would cost around $300 at a smaller, local salon when there was nothing extraordinary about the appointment. read more

it hurts to write this but I can't let what happened to me happen to someone else. I did not realize until I was home how bad my hair was but even then it is hard for me complain. Sadie did highlights and a cut. My hair is dark brown with lots of gray, so highlights have to be close to the head or I have dark roots. I did tell her I wanted it blonder but she put so much bleach ??? that I am now a bleached blond with dark roots because she didn't color close to my head. She was very nice and the salon itself is lovely. This is the first time I went cheap on my hair and it is bad. I have dark roots and lots of bleached hair. read more

I decided to try Lockstar for eyelash fills since the place I usually go to increased their prices. This was a good lesson in "you get what you pay for". Their one eyelash person went on maternity leave early and no one bothered to call me to cancel my appointment. In fact, I got a text from the salon confirming the appointment the evening prior. I was going on vacation the next day, so this was pretty inconvenient. The place looked pretty dumpy and they didn't even offer to do anything to try to make up for the inconvenience. Overpriced! Not professional! Wedding party had their hair done and within hours of leaving the salon their hair went flat (not due to weather, but the stylist did nothing more than use a curling iron and very little hair spray). It looked like we had done it on our own in our bathrooms but we paid premium price. The visit was disrupted by various problems the stylists had to attend to that day. read more
