Stumbled into Fritz's by absolute accident -- I was visiting the coffee shop a few doors down and was drawn into here. A whole job dedicated to rollerskating! Wow! What a blast from... my youth? My present? Good times? I still rollerblade occasionally, so was super excited to pop in. They sell everything from roller-skates to protective gear to apparel to safety pads etc etc. They also have some really cute crew socks that I was going to buy had I not been on foot w/o a purse! SKIP DOWN TO REVIEW START if you like - this is just the backstory of how I pushed myself to drive down. I had wanted to get roller-skates since last year but been SUPER lazy to like drive after I end work to go get them. But I was determined (don't remember why I was inspirationally motivated - may have been my girlfriend planting the idea of our group rollerskating tomorrow. You know who you are M!). I decided to go down to PB, once I ended work to do it. Mind you it's been forever since I last drove one way for 20ish minutes. I first arrived in the wrong plaza. If you find yourself in a plaza with the back of Beachworks, a liquor store, Oceans Pizzeria - you're close, but not where Fritzy's is. You're in the right place if you see a Shock fitness on the 2nd floor. REVIEW START - IN PERSON SHOPPING Upon arriving, I took in the the views and everything. Roller-skates and rollerblades decorated the aisles and walls. Protection equipment (I call them battle armor) was placed all around. The store associates were definitely busy at work, but I got helped after 5 minutes/less. I let the store associate know I was trying to decide on which one I wanted - roller-skates or rollerblades - and she gave me two options to try on. I first tried on the rollerblade which very much reminded me of when I had to put on snow-boots for snowboarding. I was thinking - okay, this could work. It just seems like my feet and ankles are bundled up. Then I tried on roller-skates and the feeling was SUPER different. It was like comfortable. By the way, I was trying these on a velvet surface. I ended up going for the midnight blue glitter as another patron recommended it so if you scratch the surface, not super evident. Got the front cover per store associate suggestion and she also helped me put it on. I also got the battle armor as I knew by default I am going to fall. I waited maybe like 10 minutes while she was helping me put it on. Starter skates go for around $99 or $199+ while blades are ~$130+. From what I asked and found out, skates are usually good for about a year before either being upgraded to another shoe or wheels. They can install them for you at the shop. Very seamless shopping experience. I was originally worrying about parking but they let me know I was good if I parked in the plaza where their store was located. Prior to coming online, I read you're good to be in the lot for 5/15 minutes, and apparently there's also a downstairs garage that you can parking for longer if you're renting skates. Believe I was there for 20-30 minutes for the trying on, seeing options, paying and then waiting for my front toe protector to be put on. In store associates were super knowledgeable and helpful. Should be returning again once I have gained a better understanding of balance on my skates - and that it's time for me to 'level up'. Would recommend any new skater to first watch videos if you're not taking class to learn the gist of the right habits. On youtube, Dirty School of Skate, Nicole Fiore, there's plenty to check out! Shoutout to Chalice who helped me pick out my first pair of roller skates. I came in as soon as they opened on Saturday and it got pretty busy while I searched around. Chalice was attentive and helped me find the best fit that was comfortable for me. I came in with the expectation on spending $100-200 and ended up buying Riedell (they offer to change the wheels to a different color for free). They already feel much more comfortable than any other pair I have used. I will definitely be back for gear and any upgrades. The shop had a cute vibe as well! read more

Fairly awful experience with this company. I bought a gift card from here for my girlfriends 30th birthday. I was hesitant based on size/color availability but I was assured that if the color size is out of stock it would be 3-5 days to get it from their warehouse. Once we went it and she tried them on (which you can only stand there, can't roll around the store to see how they feel) and chose the color/size she wanted. This was out of stock in store but their distributor had it in stock. The "only" option they gave was to sign up for their email notification as they couldn't order it for me. I couldn't even pay in full for it ahead of time to claim it. After about 10 days of waiting I followed back up and they said it could take 2-3 months for them to arrive. I asked for a refund. Big NO. Since then the color and size she liked sold out from the distributor as well so now we cannot even get her what she wants. IDK if they are hurting on business where they can't let a customer get a refund for services they could not provide but I worked as the COO of a retail company for 5 years and this place has 0 empathy. No compassion for the fact my girlfriend was super excited to get back into skating and now I have to go through my CC company which can be a hassle for us and the shop. Disappointed in a retail shop that is selling a new hobby and passion and expects a customer to wait an entire summer rather than getting them on skates (that show in stock!). I am not to blame that Impala is direct to consumer and should be given an option to get what I want while they are in stock. read more

I'm so sad to give this place 3 stars. Fritzy's has been my go to since I started my skate journey a year ago. Often times when I got there is a taller gentlemen working in the back fixing skates and the cashiers are always different ( totally fine by me). Well Sunday I walk in with my Beach Boardwalk Moxi in hand looking for new wheels to take out on the boardwalk. Upon entering the young lady was assisting a man with his purchase, cool FINE. However, she wrapped up and sent him on his way I approached the cashier where the wheels are located and can you believe she didn't even acknowledge me. So I just stood there just to see at that point, I came in ready to spend money! Truthfully I didn't want to leave without wheels. So finally I ask " are these all your wheels?' She says there is a shortage only one 4 pack of the wheels I wanted. However, they had luminous wheels as well which I was open to. Sadly, she didn't offer and I wasn't going to ask at that point becaus it's her job to up sell me not mine! Anyways, at this point I'm in there like I love this place maybe someone else came come assist. Finally a lady walks out and ask if I need help but I saw she was chewing food so I assumed she was at lunch and didn't want to take up too much of her time. Moral of the story, I don't wanna stop coming here and go to sin city. The gentlemen is by far my favorite employee he is always so nice and willing to help. After painful back & forth on Offer Up, I was totally ripped off on my skates on Amazon. When I decided to get skates for my kids, I came here after reading reviews. Parking by the beach is challenging, so I avoided the drama & parked at Ralph's across the street & got some drinks in the plaza & walked across here. Staff is super friendly & some are zipping by on skates. Tips to note : 1. You have to try on only at the carpet 2. You can only try 1 skate (you can not start skating around the shop) 3. Tons of padding, accessories, & socks are available. 4. We came on a Sunday & there was a long line for the bar next door, but it looks like...whoa....that's a long line for skates. They are priced right & cheaper than the shop in Coronado. My friend paid $20 more for the same skates. Better than Amazon Better than offer up We bought 3 impala skates. We all sized up our regular shoe size to allow for thick socks. The staff really knows how to consult you on beginner or step up skates. They also put put toe covers on for us. You can try the skates on in the store on a small carpet, but you can't glide in them on the floor. In my case, as soon as I tried it out the next day at home, I realized that one skate pulled to the left, even though it was supposed to be a quality product (Riedell). Brett Stang, a self-declared "hater, sometimes," and in this case, the mismanager, accused me of lying; although I have skating experience with multiple other skates, friends confirmed the same effect, and the effect is documented with multiple videos. Even the manufacturer's claim of skating for 20 hours to break in the skates didn't change the left pull. The skates were not taken back by Fritzy's, and the warranty claim was not resolved within 5-10 days, contrary to the terms and conditions. Saleswomen were friendly, but the management was extremely customer-unfriendly and rude, giving inconsistent explanations. My advice to potential buyers is to try the skates on in the store for comfort. If they fit well, consider ordering them from another online store that offers a return option. This way, you can test the skates at home and see if they glide properly before making a significant investment in an expensive product. This simple step could save you from a lot of frustration and disappointment. Fritzy refuses to take any responsibility for the products they sell -- the risk is outsourced to the customer. While scouring Google reviews, I realized that I'm not the first person to have this happen. Even if, fortunately, many other customer experiences are positive, there's a risk of buying a defective skate that Fritzy's won't take back. Buy elsewhere. read more

This place is beyond awesome!! Here's a couple reasons - 1) I bought my inline skates back in late September after waiting 3 months since no other stores had them cause, we all know, Corona. They unpacked a couple of pallets from that fresh shipment (that morning) to find my size and get me all situated. Easy Peasy with my Play GT 110 skates. (For shits and giggles I got the safety pad kit. Haven't unwrapped it or used it but ya know, safety first!) Take the next 2 months bombing over a 100miles and putting them to good use. 2) Just two weeks ago, I was riding and my right boot had a rivet style bolt that pulled out of the right heel. I didn't know what to do so I called the shop and they told me to email with pictures and they'd see what they could do. They weren't joking! Within 24 hours, the owner let me know that it was outside of the warranty for the store but they were going to contact the manufacturer and see what could happen. This was on Thursday. After FRITZY'S emailed me multiple times, keeping me in the loop, I got told on Tuesday that it was a manf. warranty issue and to come on in and swap 'em out. HECK YES! 3) So I go into the shop to swap 'em, and I first talked with this Gent who was working on the rollerskates. Once I told him what happened, he already had my replacements ready to go but here's where it gets EXTRA cool. I'm a gear head wrench kinda dude and since the shop hadn't ever had this happen before, the gent (I wish i woulda asked for his name - my bad man) showed me what happened and explained how it's all pieced together and whatnot. I got to learn my snapple fact for the day! Most Excellent. All in all......I won't go anywhere else to ever buy anything roller bladed/skated related. Ever. After trying the few pairs on many times & with the awesome help & opinions of many workers at the shop, I finally ended up with my 1st pair of skates! Apart from the amazing help I recieved when choosing which skates to take home, the team also helped me when I noticed a crack in my truck. I messaged them in the evening on instagram about it & within a minute they responded telling me to come in & they would help me out! Really nice staff, but prepare to wait in line for awhile to get in due to Covid restrictions ( unless you're renting skates, where there's a separate window helping it to go faster). Their skate options were pretty limited compared to what they showed on the website, which was a bummer, but all-in-all good experience. FYI size 8-8 1/2 are VERY hard to find (I couldn't find any) which is why I didn't buy, but their rentals are in great shape and a good idea to try; helps to make sure you know what feels best for you when ( or if you ) do buy. Best low-impact cardio, with the toned legs and buttocks that come with roller skating being an awesome extra perk. Glad to see roller skates are making a comeback! read more

It's hard to find a perfect fit without trying skates on, but her staff were knowledgeable about which brands run into what sizes. After buying a pair of skates, we found they were just a hair on the small size. The length was right but the toe box was narrow. The exchange process was smooth and communication was fantastic. I cannot say enough positive things about the service I received when I ordered my plate for my Jack boots. I drove down to San Diego from Rancho Cucamonga to have Nick install my new plate. My daughter has decided to take up roller skating, which is awesome because that was my favorite activity as a teen, but we were having a hard time finding skates that fit her. We took her to Fritzy's on a whim and found her a really cool looking pair of quality skates. Stephanie was very helpful and immediately knew what size to put on my daughter's foot. Well...I'm definitely not their typical customer and tried to set my expectations accordingly. I came in on a Friday (avoiding a PB weekend at all cost). They advertised a 30 minute parking validation at the lot across the street however I never quite figured out where that is, the lot associated with the mall requires payment prior to walking in so I'm not sure how validation would work. Their mobile website didn't offer a phone number and as they said when I came in..they 'try' to respond to email request within a couple of days... hmmmm thus checking on product availability is a challenge. When I walked there were 5 or 6 customers and at least as many associates scurrying around yet it was a minute before anyone approached me. I was then told that the only skates they had available in my size were low profile skates... Those that are like wheels attached to Skateboard type shoes however when I explained that I had driven more than 45 minutes to get there and the challenges with reaching them And asked if there was perhaps something that could be ordered, the associate went to the back room to find me someone else who apparently had more knowledge. I'm not real happy at this point and would gladly go to another shop but the challenge is they're pretty much the only game in town. Fortunately there's KATHRYN... Cat as she is known was knowledgeable, helpful, professional and explained the shortage in inventory however she also came up with an excellent solution of buying the boot and wheels separately Resulting in both me receiving a product in a timely manner as well as a higher quality option. Her fit knowledge was excellent and customer service skills head and shoulders above most. She's moving on to bigger and better things her last day being Sunday and Mr/Ms owner...you have your work cut out for you to find somebody who is at her level. I'll pick up my skates next week, the customer service in the back (workshop) is very good, the selection with the exception of their shortages is thorough and the vibe at the shop is fun. Fritzy's went above and beyond. I ordered my daughter skates and the description said that the wheel color was not Guaranteed, however we ordered a pair of glittery teal leases. They got the picture and included sparkly teal wheels for her. It doesn't seem like a big deal but it is a huge deal that they went above and beyond to make my child happy.
