No fly zone continued, host says nothing created 'in house' or on premises

Freshly Brewed de - caffeinated coffee with hot almond milk steamed served 'on the side' was DELICIOUS. One of the best we've had in Canada! yes, THAT good FULL flavoured smooth & rich coffee delishishness. Why u may say only 3 stars ? Firstly the ordering process: 3 separate vignettes to share in the 15 minutes I was at the ordering counter; Multiple repeats as there were language issues, and it took a LONG TIME to get it STRAIGHT and correct, customers behind in the queue getting ANTSY threatening to leave , another getting overcharged as WRONG order got into the system / dat fella raised his voice & temper flared. Being patient (world travelled), this writer kept at it until both order taker (native Farsi speaker - nice guy, but struggling) & barista got it RIGHT. That took time, which is okay for us.... to a point.... Albeit a loss of star due to overall 'competence' of the entire experience: I bussed my own outdoor table and cleaned it prior to taking our seats...lotsa unbussed tables, clutter unsightly. Area around the condiments self serve was unkempt / dirty needed a tidy up. Self serve water dispenser empty = unacceptable in hospitality biz. Basic really, no time for chitchat with yer countrymen whilst yer place of business needs 'ATTENTION ' , however as I write this, the gent who was taking orders is sitting & socializing whilst his tables remain unbussed = curious. Speaking with other clients afterward.... concensus was: BEST aspect of this Waves location was, and I quote: " it's not SBUX". That is faint praise. Value is another story. 9 dollars Canadian for two large decaf coffees, no food, is spendy & Lose a star relative to ambience comfort cleanliness. That's how we arrived at 3 stars for today's visit. Some of the 'issues'CAN be rectified. This COULD be a 4 star coffeehouse. Staff are pleasant and trying, coffee was really tasty. So in future...possibly.. if,,, if... Interested enough to return... Will our next visit report they've sorted their 'service / cleanliness' ?

Polite and friendly staff. It's my go to place for coffee and to get some work done. Cafe is clean, quite, and has good vibes. They have great options for coffee and tea. Me and my husband like their latte, espresso macchiato and fresh brewed coffee, roobibod latte. My absolute favorite is Belgian Mocha - dark chocolate. Must try!!

Great staff at this Waves Location makes it my favourite Coffee Shop in Downtown Port Coquitlam. It's nice to go to a coffee shop (or whatever the place may be) and seeing the same people. The staff is small, but consistent, and I love that. In fact, I value that a lot. They know who you are, you know them, and it makes your day that much better. The coffee is good. Better than Starbucks? Perhaps. The food choices are better than Starbucks if I had to compare. This reminds me more of the late 90's Bread Garden, which I used to visit quite a bit. Good sandwich options and breakfast options too. The good thing about Waves over Starbucks is their occasional sales. $2 latte is a great deal once in a while. Their Matcha Green Tea Latte is also better, as Starbucks doesn't have this option. Starbucks may be a larger chain with a Points System, but you can still save a lot of money going to Waves when you take advantage of their frequent sale offerings. This place is a recommend. The staff are what makes it better than the average coffee shops.

Very nice coffee shop, right in the heart of Poco at Shaughnessy and McAllister. Free internet access, lots of parking, friendly staff. The usual range of coffees, lattes, caps and fraps. A wide assortment of cakes and treats, all very scrumptious. The only thing lacking was their tea in my opinion. They have a wide selection of teas, but none of them made a proper cup'o'tea. I let mine sit for 10 minutes and it was still not even close to strong enough for me. If you are a coffee shop you should know how to make a proper cup of tea in my opinion. Boiling hot water poured over the teabag in ceramic pot or mug (mini brown betty teapot works the best) is the traditional Canadian way. Every Tuesday nights they have an open mic for local musicians and talent, which is a lot of fun and very entertaining. The atmosphere is fantastic, lots of seats yet lots of elbow room. I am definitely going to become a regular customer.

    Artsy, roomy and comfortable!

This place is awesome. From the comfortable couch chairs, to the alternative milk options (soy, almond and coconut), to the amazing baristas, this waves location is a reliable place to come and relax. Most chain coffee shops come with the headache of long lineups and overcrowding, but Waves seems to maintain a good balance of a lively atmosphere and a certain level of serenity. And I must say, their lattes are better than other chain coffee shops in the area, by far! Definitely worth a visit.

    Hazelnut latte...super yum.

I love this place because not only does the service rock; their lattes are to die for! Morning baristas totally knew my usual (Hazelnut Latte) after two visits, they are quick and provide a delicious cup and amazing banana loaf. This is my new fave coffee place and I recommend that everyone come here!

Latte on a Easter Monday , it's sunny out and a good day.

Pull apart was lighter than I expected. Other place's pull apart was so buttery, cheesy, however, this one was flaky and buttery, so, if you prefer light texture pull apart, you will like it. Cream cheese filling was nice accent. Pistachio loaf was more dense than I expected. It had pistachio whipped cream on top, so, cream helped loaf texture more smooth. Loaf had strong pistachio flavor. I liked whipped cream and loaf combination. Pesto and mozzalera swirl was a bit too salty for me. Dough was super flaky and buttery, I liked the dough texture so much, but filling could be more minder. Unfortunately, I did not have ferrero rocher danish. I heard that this one was the best. Mousse was so delicious and dough was very flaky and buttery. Overall, I think their pastries are always outstanding and good quality. The place was extremely busy and could not get a table. Next time, I wish I could dine-in.

We were seated right away. We ordered a pistachio latte, apple crisp macchiato and Turkish coffee. We asked for the first two drinks to go and Turkish coffee in house. Unfortunately, our barista made all the drinks to go. We did not get to enjoy the Turkish coffee in a nicer presentation. Also, we kind of expected a sugary treat to accompany the Turkish coffee and there was nothing. Maybe because I am used to other cafes just automatically offering a Turkish delight or something? There was a cup of water to wash down the bitter coffee. Overall, I think their food is probably a better option than their drinks. My pistachio latte was alright. I could taste a hint of the pistachio. Service was alright. We received our drinks fairly quickly.

I was intrigued why they did not have an Iranian theme with some ethnic uniqueness to it. Perhaps this is more palatable to the general public. They serve cafe style offerings with some breakfast items, sandwiches and pastries. The owner relayed to me all coffees and teas they serve are organic!! She would also like to expand their menu to include a liquor license. So we shall see what happens then. Coffee is good. Pastries were okay. Pricing is slightly above average. Okay environment to work in if you don't mind the Mediterranean guitar music playing full-blast. Overall, their chairs are more comfortable than usual coffee joints in the hood. May return in future if work with RELAXING music is in the stars.

1 Star -- Discriminatory and Hostile Toward Disabled Patrons…read more My experience at Gratia Café was deeply upsetting and reflects a profound lack of understanding of -- or respect for -- disability rights. I am a disabled individual who relies on a legitimate, clearly identifiable service dog. Rather than being treated with basic courtesy and professionalism, I was subjected to hostile behavior, scrutiny, and exclusionary conduct that made it unmistakably clear I was not welcome. Staff acted as though they were entitled to question or challenge the presence of a service dog, despite the fact that this is explicitly prohibited under British Columbia human rights law. Let me be very clear: Businesses do not get to interrogate disabled patrons, demand explanations of medical need, or treat service dogs as optional accommodations. A service dog is not a pet, and access is not conditional on staff approval, comfort, or personal beliefs. What made this experience particularly distressing was the demeaning tone and dismissive attitude shown throughout the interaction. Instead of de-escalation or accommodation, the situation was handled in a way that felt humiliating, stigmatizing, and discriminatory. Disabled people should never be made to feel like a problem simply for existing in public spaces with the supports they require. Accessibility is not a "preference" or a branding choice -- it is a legal and ethical obligation. Until Gratia Café undertakes serious staff training on disability rights, service animals, and inclusive customer service, I cannot recommend this establishment to disabled patrons or allies. This experience was not just disappointing -- it was unacceptable.
