DJ played music, Bingo was a common thing. Some kids events. Pool was a total wreck and closed for 90% of our stay (one of the reasons for our stay and the low rating). Play are was worn and had missing or damaged items. Roads are not marked and sites are not well marked. Fishing area is very small standing area in the woods along the Mosup River. Water pressure was between 30 and 60 psig. Office staff was young and very polite. We had no issues. read more

Campground is well maintained, cute store. Activities are good. Last year we rented a camper for the weekend. It was in terrible condition. Beds were horrible. Tried to upgrade to a full facility cabin for this year and it was equally as terrible. Very dated, dirty and once again terrible beds. Horrible odor in both. Would love to continue to have annual trips there but the rental accommodations are awful. read more

I enjoy going to this campground regularly. They have events going on most of the time and the staff are cool. Nobody is busting your chops and doing drive-by's all day and night...I know I don't like campgrounds that are too strict. The bathrooms are clean and the grounds are taken care of. The camp store is not too overpriced and they have a small game room attached. We always camp at the tent sites when we go camping here. Each site has a fire ring with a picnic table, and ample space to park and set up. The tables could use upgrading soon, but not too bad. There a a couple of deli's around town...about 3-5 minutes away and a pizza place with a bar if you wanted to order out or take a ride. There is also a mini golf area, playground, and mining. The playground is well kept, but the mining golf could use a leave blower. The canoe and kayak rentals are a little pricey, but maybe that's why I didn't see anyone use one. read more

The website is pretty good & I was so looking forward to a long weekend tent camping. . There have a crazy train -- enough said! ! The staff were friendly & welcoming. Check in was quick & easy. Map was well detailed so it was easy to find my site. Tent site was pretty big, impressive. It was clean & the whole campground was well maintained. There's a center pavilion with picnic tables & evening snackbar. Bingo was going on while I went to the pool for a quick swim before dinner. Kayak rentals as well as paddleboats. The lake actually goes out to the Moosup River with walking trails around. Elvis, performed Saturday night and it was awesome! ! There's a campstore well stocked for all your camping needs. Across the way is the Lucky Strike mine so you can pan for treasures. It was fun!! Staff was such a presence in the park, it was good to see them driving around, talking with campers, collecting trash, cleaning the restrooms, enforcing quiet hours. It was such a good camping experience, I look forward to going back. Definately make a trip & check this place out!! So worth it!! read more

The website describes a great campground with lots to do but this may have been 20 years ago. The cabin smelled like pee from people peeing on the floor in the bathroom so much and soaking into the floor. The campsite had trash around it. The playgrounds were run down and broken they also had tons of garbage on the ground. The mini golf was unkept and could not be played. The pond had trash in it, the canoes were filled with rain water, and there were too many lilyponds to even canoe without getting stuck. The pool was clean but because it is the only thing to do, there were 30 people in it at one time. The game room had very few working games and the mining was $20 for 5 minutes of fun. Totally bummed... it needs a complete makeover. read more

Excellent place to take younger kids on camping trip, whether it be in a tent, in a cabin or in an RV. They have a lot of activities for kids and the prices are extremely reasonable. The guy who gives the train rides is a real daredevil, so make sure you buckle up. read more

Riverbend is a nice family campground although small. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. However, There is no privacy because it is too small, If there is a large family , It can get loud. The trail to the fishing pond cuts through the the cabins and a campsite. We had a lot of people going through back and forth, day and night. Therefore , we couldn't fully enjoy relaxing through our stay. Our cabin's door lock was broken and so were the window's. They don't have much activities going on except canoe/kayak rentals. The have a DJ on Saturday night and bingo on the weekend. It's a good campground if you have small kids. They have cabins and trailers for rent. They also have tent, RV, and pop ups sites. They sell firewood bundles. read more

I just celebrate my family reunion, and the place was great. Of course, there are some areas that need some improvement such as their mini golf and their pond (which is hard to appreciate due to some algae that form mats on the water's surface). The camping site has a sand volleyball court, a small basketball court, a play ground for kids and a pool. The spaces might seem close on the map, but it might be far away from each other. read more

Been camping here the last 13 years. Some reviews say the place is out dated and some things are, but it costs money to update and each year they seem to be adding or fixing something. It's also a campground! If you want luxury go to a hotel! For the price nothing here is that bad or unsafe. We started in tents just a few weekends a season now we are seasonals. They have a nice clean pool, a pond with paddle boats, kayaks, and canoe rentals. They have activities for children of all ages, some change each week. A train ride, mini golf, horse shoes, bingos, Saturday night and Sundays holiday weekend dance parties. A game room, little store, and they offer food certain nights. They do have cabin rentals which is nice for those who want to be in a building. Some sites are smaller than others but anyone can go view the place before picking a site! The campground also has clean bathrooms and showers which is a huge plus! Family owned and operated! Everyone is very helpful and friendly for the most part. Definitely give this place a shot you won't be disappointed. read more

We stayed here last June for one night in an RV rental with our 5 and 6 year old boys. It was the first time we'd ever rented an RV, (we usually tent camp), which we did because it was a chilly weekend. Like the other reviewers, I like the simplicity. Let kids play, who needs structured activities when the kids get that all year? They loved the game room and the mine as well as the sluice, camping store also. We did a lot of camping last summer to a lot of nice places and I'll admit Riverbend to an adult feels like a comfortable old shoe. I would prefer a place with a beach, but the kids like swimming pools better. The kids want to come back to this place most. We camped near dinosaur land, but they want Riverbend. They liked camping in an RV. The RV was clean but I didn't like the hole in the shower floor that was patched with some yellow gook...I didn't know what that was at first til I figured it was some repair compound. It got down to 32 degrees that night, and the heat worked well. My only real complaint is that although clean, the RV seemed a little run-down for the price paid. It was $130 that one night, in mid-June. Everything worked well and we were supplied with very nice white fluffy towels that you'd get in a nice hotel. I just think for that price they should re-do the old linoleum in the RV and re-upholster the couch. There are two playgrounds here also that I know of. We didn't stay long so didn't get to explore much but the drive to Oneca from Middletown is really pretty. We will probably be back this year to stay longer, and if financially possible, we will rent an RV again. read more

The first time my family and I went camping at Riverbend Campground was June of 2009 & it quickly became a summer tradition. We continued to go every season, sometimes as often as 3 times during the summer. We spent Memorial Day Weekends, Labor Day weekend, Jimmy Buffett weekends and various other occasions. Last Memorial Day weekend I took my 3 children, my cousin and her three children. During a dance down at the Pavilion a clearly intoxicated woman who was dancing wildly was pushing and knocking into my cousin while she was holding her one year old son. My daughter who was thirteen at the time ask the woman to stop. The woman pushed my daughter and told her don't f*** with me I'm seasonal. Instead of confronting the woman and escalating the situation I tried to get the attention of the owner's daughter who was working in the snack area. A woman in line got upset because she was waiting in line for food so she swore and screamed at me. I left and went to the main office and spoke to the owner. I complained about the seasonal woman and told her about the woman who almost attacked me in the food line when I was looking for an employee to help with the situation. The owner told me she would look into it.. that was the last I heard about any issue for the rest of the weekend..until yesterday when I tried to call to make a reservation for this upcoming Memorial Day weekend. I was told that there was a note not to rent to me me personally I did nothing wrong..I did not call the police as I could have as soon as an adult physically assaulted my child, I didn't physically assault the women which 10 years ago I may have..I did the adult thing and saught the help of employees and management. MORAL OF THE STORY DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SEASONALS. I can't imagine she was treated as unfairly as I was. I have personally witnessed some of their seasonal people swear at people over Bingo seats. Swearing at one man in front of his daughter because she wanted the whole table to herself, she put a tablecloth across it & claimed it as her own. There are other campgrounds out there and we can make new tradition somewhere else.. read more
