We stopped by for happy hour and dinner. I ordered a lychee martini. That has been the best martini I have ever had. The bartender was Barry, he was so nice and came to our table when I complimented him. Our waitress was Jules. We asked her for suggestions for dessert, we had the most amazing and delicious bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. For dinner we had shepherds pie which was delicious. This was a great place to catch a world cup game! We came to watch the Scotland vs. Brazil game. It was a perfect venue for viewing the game and many scottish visitors were there at this location! They had all the flags hanging up for the world cup game surrounding the restaraunt which was a nice touch! They had sitting for inside and outside as well. Hardcore Irish bar in east Fort Lauderdale. The bartender Nicolette gave us a quick rundown of the menu since the lights are dim and I'm almost blind. Beautiful dark hardwood bar with a mountain of liquor bottles and a Toucan as the centerpiece really added to the No Nonsense theme of the pub. The fish dip with the homemade triangular chips was outstanding and the fresh cut seasoned French fries were insane with two dipping sauces which included curry and a secret homemade brown gravy. Out in Ft Lauderdale area for business and came across this Irish Pub called Waxy's. Started my order asking for a nice pour of Green Spot. I was then informed they were out. Requested a pour of Yellow Spot and was unfortunately told they only had half a pour but they would only charge half price. So, I guess I'm winning. Was pleasantly surprised by their fish & chips. Decided I wanted another whiskey, but decided on some bourbon. The atmosphere was classic pub, which is quite nice. I was not however impressed by the service. Ft. Lauderdale~We were actually on our way to Thai food and saw this place! Decided to pull over and eat here instead! Such a FANTASTIC divey lil pub. Our waitress, DENISE, was outstanding. She could not have been more personable. I'd go back just so she could wait on us, and I could have another conversation with her. The old fashioned cocktail was great. Our servers were great, they did everything possible to make our visit enjoyable. We tried three dishes, all were good, but nothing had had a wow factor. So, no complaints, but no praise either...until the desert! The bread pudding was beautiful. My wife was so pleased, she ordered one to go. I was not pleased with the patio experience...tables and chairs were not meant to go together. Tables are too low, chairs are too high. We did find one that was usable. It was, however, sticky and cluttered. It was taken care of by our servers, so I can not be too upset. Tried Waxy's Pub for the first time and I am glad. It's an old building and not too exciting on the outside but the dark inside with the large tv monitors on the walls above the wood bar and wood tables made me feel like I was in a true Irish pub. The curry dip for the French fries was top notch. The roasted pita chips were made fresh for my fish dip platter. Lychee Martini was very strong and only $7 during happy hour. read more

I had delicious Fish & chips, the fish was excellent good size portion with a wonderful thick crunchy coating The chips (fries) were soft and did not seam fresh. One corned beef and cabbage was quickly devoured, must have been good because the person who ordered it normally complains about everything. Cute pub. Across the street from the embassy suites. I went on a Wednesday. They had live music in the patio. I hung out at the bar. The bartenders were nice. They helped me right away. I started off with the causeway martini. It was gin based with muddled cucumber. It was good, but just a tad bit sweet for me. I ended up getting gin and tonic for my second drink. We were in Ft Lauderdale getting ready for a cruise the next day and a bunch of cruise attendees organized a get-together at Waxy's. Nothing fancy, just "grab dinner at Waxy's if you're in town and say hi". We were excited for the live music advertised on the website, and when we arrived we asked to be seated close to where the musician would be playing. The waitress brought us to a specific table where we proceeded to order drinks, food, and chat with others. About an hour later, when there was still no music, we asked when that would start. Got there around 9:00 on a Saturday night. The place was less than half full. Ten minute wait for a server to stop by and another ten minutes to get our beers which were warm and almost flat. This used to be one of my favorite spots Sunday afternoons after a busy morning. It's always busy and might get a little loud because of the sports crowd but great ambiance over all. They have happy hour every day and the food and drinks are great for the price. Service could be really great or just mediocre like this afternoon. Phillip is a special guy who just takes care of you like family. This place is lucky to have him and you will be lucky to have him as a server. Trust! The food. I always order fish and chips and it always comes out straight out of the fryer. It's the kind of freshness that you have to wait for it to cool down before you consume it unless you're the daring type. The fries are top tier. Put some malt vinegar on those babies and treat yo'self. The drinks. The Guinness is special here. Poured right. Perfectly cooled. The head is dreamy. The martinis are also scrumdidlyumscious. I love the Porn Star Martini (passion fruit. Sweet but not too sweet) and the Causeway Martini which is cucumbery and just so damn good. The deals. Happy Hours get you half-price cocktails and my martinis go down extra smooth with that awesome deal. We were in Ft Lauderdale between cruises and decided to meet friends at Waxy's Irish Pub for lunch. I'd read about the place in a book written by a guy who worked on cruise ships and he and his buddies all went there when they were between cruises. Best idea we've had in years! We were early and waited outside but were greeted by the nicest waitress in town and asked if we wanted to come in! Yes! We had a great chat with this cute Irish gal until our friends came. Stopped by this place as I recently moved in down the street. Found a place at the bar to eat as most tables were taken. First thing I noticed was they have a large selection of beers. After having a couple I decided on ordering shepherds pie for dinner which was excellent. Service was okay through out the meal, I wish the bartender had checked in on me more as I probably would have ordered more food and drinks. We decided to share an order of their nachos. They were airy chips topped with zingy jalapeños, cheese, chili, and veggies. They really hit the spot, and sharing one serving was just enough to take the edge off late at night so we could get some sleep....we'll, a couple of drinks didn't hurt either.
