Definitely better than most fast food burgers - Cheesesteak: was pretty good for a cheesesteak outside of Philly. Only small complaint was that it was a touch salty - Irish Nachos: amazing! On a trip to meet a family member at Harris Ranch for something this weekend, we decided to skip the very expensive food at Harris Ranch and head back north a bit to Wayback Burgers, which we had seen while getting gas. It's connected to the Mobil gas station. While this could be off putting for some, I've been surprised in the past with gas stations occasionally having great food in them. Also, the place was crowded, and that's usually a good sign. You order at the counter, either choosing their regular menu items or by building your own. You can get very specific with the build your own and anything goes. I ordered the Chipotle burger and onion rings. The burgers are clearly made fresh to order, the patties are almost crumbling because you can tell they were hand mixed and there was a good 10-12 minute wait for the order, which came delivered to the table by someone. The burger was honestly amazing. Maybe it was partially because I was starving by then, but honestly, it was great. And the onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. They also have homemade chips, which looked yummy. I tried my sons fries and they were decent, but not spectacular. He had the kids cheeseburger and though he complained about the burger not looking as generic as a McDonalds cheeseburger, he ate every bite. They were also playing my all time favorite childhood movie turned my sons favorite movie, The Never Ending Story, On two TV's. What are the odds!? Also, my sons name is Jacob (Jake), and the original restaurant was called Jake's Hamburgers. It's like this place was meant for us to find. We ordered on-line for pickup. This save time to get back on the road quick! It is next to a gas station with no lines. Great for a restroom stop and to load up on snacks and drinks. There is also a McD and country stores at the same exit. The burgers were pricey. Most of it were okay. The best one was the double cheese burger with the butter bun. Delicious! Was stopping by this area to get gas as we were driving back from our long trip from LA area. We decided to get dinners at this place opposed to McDonalds across the street because it had some pretty decent reviews (not to mention the smell was amazing from outside the gas station). Immediately entering, we noticed they sell quite a variety of food: from tater tots, to burgers, to milkshakes, to chicken tenders. I ordered a cinnamon toast crunch milkshake alongside some chicken tenders and fries. The milkshake was actually pretty good and nostalgic of my childhood eating cereal. Customer service was super helpful and helped described all the different types of sauces they had. They even packaged our sauces in togo boxes! I had no idea what I was walking into but we tried it and what a surprise!!! The burgers are simply awesome, juicy, and crispy! Everything tastes so fresh! Fries too were awesome! The burger is above average and is great for fast food. I personally think it's almost at in-n-out and shake shake quality. Heading down to SoCal on the 5, there's not much really to choose from for food that's quick besides super fast food chains with drive thru. I found Wayback Burgers on the Yelp and it seemed like more fast casual and a better choice than Micky D's or the Jack. It sort of reminds me of a Five Guys, located in a newish building and you put your order in and they make your burger. The regular burger comes with 2 patties and you go from there, like Five Guys. What was nice is you can order online and have you order ready for you when you get here, not that it really takes all that long for them to make the food here. I had a double patty bacon cheeseburger for around $7.50 and added fries for $2.50 and the food was about $10.00, so not too bad, a little more than In N Out. It was a good burger, I've never had Wayback before. I'd stop here again, as it's easy freeway access off the 5 and I may stop on my way back too! read more

This is pretty good for fast food. It's been my go to meal whenever I'm traveling back and forth from SF to LA. Their WB Cod sandwich was pretty good. It would be better if it came with cheese. I really like their veggie burger. They use garden burger as their patty and I thought it's more filling than the Cod sandwich. You can customize it however you wish. Their Mac n Cheese bites aren't all that and not very memorable. Their fries are good though! Their shakes are pretty good too. I'm not a milkshake person but they had this special Caramel Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milkshake my boyfriend and I couldn't pass up. It tasted good and I like the pieces of cinnamon toast crunch cereal. Lots of bacon and FINALLY, mustard enough for me. It's ala carte ordering so we had an order of onion rings and wonderful long cut fries. 2 fountain beverages put the damage at about $21. Service is bad. Food is pricey for a fast food franchise that is a pit stop for truckers. High school attendant could not comprehend when I asked if they had dark meat chicken. He responded with it's chicken; I finally clarified my question with: chicken white breast or chicken dark thigh? He finally understood... no chefs here. Just high school servers with no brains. Really surprising place! If you ever try to put the word premium to fast food, this is it! Everything is made fresh and served hot. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken sandwich and was amazed I had to wait for it to cool before eating it. Fries are lightly salted. A side note, people with peanut allergies might want to be careful; I may be wrong but I think they were fried in peanut oil. A little pricy but all together a very good place with honest staff; they reimbursed me for accidently putting two drinks on my order. They'd be as good as Shake Shack if they had beer. read more

For a place whose sole purpose in life is as an I-5 rest stop, I'll give them credit for being one of the better options. Yes, they share the building with a gas station (as does the McDonald's across the street), right down to the barely tolerable bathrooms, and serve overpriced food, but at least the food was tasty. And they had a couple TVs streaming from Netflix. When the kids noticed, they whined to us for a different show; an employee overheard and kindly offered to change it for them. That alone made our lunch stop significantly more bearable, so thank you for that! read more
