6/16/17 I am SHOCKED. For those who have done the SF to/from LA road trip a few times, you all know how amazingly subpar fastfood is along the way. A Jack in the Box burger can take 30min to make. Taco Bell 20min. Eye contact is surely a souless peering into the abyss. And you gotta wonder if the clerks ever eat anything other than their own products cause they're so... interestingly shaped... 1. Blown away... for a chain I have never heard of, in the middle of nowhere, their food is frickin' great!!! 2. The girl who took my order was pretty and spelled my name right!!! Yeah, trust me, no one else can get my 4-letter name right along the 5 Hwy 3. .... okay okay... they still took forever, ha ha So we got... 1. Irish Nachos Side 260cal $3.49: Fresh fried potato chips, perfectly tender and moist in the center, but crackling crisp everywhere else. Perfect. And it's loaded with all kinds of heart-stopping junk... even better! And man, they did not skimp on the cheese--not crappy synthetic "nacho" cheese either--it's the real deal! I am calling them out on the "260cal" thing. NO WAY IN HELL is that 260cal. I mean, just a small bag of chips is like 200-300cal right? These are mega fried, super cheesed wonders... I seriously would guess closer to 800-1000cal. 8/10 2. Double Bacon Burger 820cal $7.99: Think Five Guys with even thicker real beef patties, but a tad less juicy. Very fresh veggies. Awesome bun. And even higher quality bacon. This burger is definitely at the top of the burger chain! 8/10 3. Cheesesteak 580cal $7.99: A fast food cheesesteak!?!? Hell frickin' yeah! Over the years various chains like the Jack or King types have attempted their versions of some form of cheesteak, and always end up being horrifyingly disgusting. But this cheesteak is really great for what it is! No, it's not gonna be as high-quality as your favorite cheesteak-specialty joint, but for fast food... amazingly good. 8/10 I do this 400mi drive quite often actually, since I only moved up from SoCal a few years ago. I had no idea what I was walking into but we tried it and what a surprise!!! The burgers are simply awesome, juicy, and crispy! Everything tastes so fresh! Fries too were awesome! Finally to top it, we had to get a milkshake and I'm so glad we did despite of the work out needed afterwards :) Definitively a place i will come back to. read more

Woof. That was one of the worst fast food experiences we have had. Everything tasted like old oil. Tenders were chewy, burger had a weird taste...everything fried was gross. Milkshake was fine. Giving two stars bc staff was friendly and clearly understaffed but cannot recommend to anyone. read more

This may be one of the best food places along the I-5 corridor in the NorCal/SoCal road trip. I got a double burger with the way back sauce along with fries. The burger is above average and is great for fast food. I personally think it's almost at in-n-out and shake shake quality. Although I though I thought the burger was great the fries were mediocre as they were dry. I would stop by here again on my road trip through the Valley. read more

Really fresh burgers made to order. Got the Rodeo (two patties, bbq sauce and onion ring) and it was delish! Tater tots were good and crispy and not over salted. Much better than a lot of the fast food choices around there! Would highly recommend. read more

Heading down to SoCal on the 5, there's not much really to choose from for food that's quick besides super fast food chains with drive thru. I found Wayback Burgers on the Yelp and it seemed like more fast casual and a better choice than Micky D's or the Jack. It sort of reminds me of a Five Guys, located in a newish building and you put your order in and they make your burger. The regular burger comes with 2 patties and you go from there, like Five Guys. What was nice is you can order online and have you order ready for you when you get here, not that it really takes all that long for them to make the food here. I had a double patty bacon cheeseburger for around $7.50 and added fries for $2.50 and the food was about $10.00, so not too bad, a little more than In N Out. It was a good burger, I've never had Wayback before. I'd stop here again, as it's easy freeway access off the 5 and I may stop on my way back too! read more

This food joint is terrific. It goes beyond the burgers (which are good), the milkshakes are made fresh, and the onion rings are really good and with a nice crunch. We also got some chicken tenders for the little one and that was pretty good, for the young ones anyway. Delightfully unexpected! Had never heard of the place until we pulled off the highway. Burgers are fresh and flavorsome.

Pleasantly surprised that a fast food place was this good. Caesar salad was fresh with a lot of croutons. Probably too many croutons but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Hot dog was grilled perfectly and it was nice that toppings were customizable. Burgers were tasty & also customizable. read more

I noticed this restaurant on the way to Monterey last month but didn't stop. Today, on a wild hair, my 14yo Son and I took a roadtrip with Wayback Burgers in mind. All in all, it was pretty good. Joey Boy had the Buffalo [chicken) Burger. Battered and fried (grilled available) it was generously bathed in Frank's Red Hot. Good sammie. I had the Double Bacon Burger. Lots of bacon and FINALLY, mustard enough for me. It's ala carte ordering so we had an order of onion rings and wonderful long cut fries. 2 fountain beverages put the damage at about $21. Service is bad. Food is pricey for a fast food franchise that is a pit stop for truckers. High school attendant could not comprehend when I asked if they had dark meat chicken. He responded with it's chicken; I finally clarified my question with: chicken white breast or chicken dark thigh? He finally understood... no chefs here. Just high school servers with no brains. This is pretty good for fast food. It's been my go to meal whenever I'm traveling back and forth from SF to LA. Their WB Cod sandwich was pretty good. It would be better if it came with cheese. I really like their veggie burger. They use garden burger as their patty and I thought it's more filling than the Cod sandwich. You can customize it however you wish. Their Mac n Cheese bites aren't all that and not very memorable. Their fries are good though! Their shakes are pretty good too. I'm not a milkshake person but they had this special Caramel Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milkshake my boyfriend and I couldn't pass up. It tasted good and I like the pieces of cinnamon toast crunch cereal. Really surprising place! If you ever try to put the word premium to fast food, this is it! Everything is made fresh and served hot. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken sandwich and was amazed I had to wait for it to cool before eating it. Fries are lightly salted. A side note, people with peanut allergies might want to be careful; I may be wrong but I think they were fried in peanut oil. A little pricy but all together a very good place with honest staff; they reimbursed me for accidently putting two drinks on my order. They'd be as good as Shake Shack if they had beer. read more

For a place whose sole purpose in life is as an I-5 rest stop, I'll give them credit for being one of the better options. Yes, they share the building with a gas station (as does the McDonald's across the street), right down to the barely tolerable bathrooms, and serve overpriced food, but at least the food was tasty. And they had a couple TVs streaming from Netflix. When the kids noticed, they whined to us for a different show; an employee overheard and kindly offered to change it for them. That alone made our lunch stop significantly more bearable, so thank you for that! read more

We eat Wayback burgers in the Bay Area locations etc, cause it serves Halal meat! We pass by year after year and always forget that this location does not serve Halal meat. Which is a bummer. We ended up ordering the fries with cheese and tots etc which was delicious. I love wayback burgers and Vote for this location to serve halal too. Stopped here for lunch on the way down to LA from SF. Definitely a way better alternative to McDs. Nothing against McDs but the food was much tastier and fresh. My 6yo who initially asked for a burger only devoured her burger AND my chicken tenders! I've never seen her eat so much so quickly! I wasn't a fan of the fries but the tater tots were so amazing!!! Hot and crispy! Chicken tenders were also delicious! Yum! I've never heard of this place before and just looked them up online. The I-5 corridor is a culinary wasteland. I don't expect much when I drive from The Bay to LA. I'm glad we discovered this little joint. Finally a place to get a decent burger. I've Never had Heard of WayBack Burger's. Have to say, the Food at this Location... Was Something else in Every GOOD way! Food: Food was Freshly Made (which made it even more enjoyable). Ordered a Double Bacon Cheeseburger... It was pretty big in size, as the image. I was even able to add grilled mushrooms and Jalapenos. Burger was to die for, but I Couldn't even finish it. I also had a Orea Milkshake and house chips. The house chips were made there, and weren't too greedy or salty. Just perfect. A+ Staff/Workers: Everyone were Welcoming, Nice and Attentive. Got greeted as soon as I walked in. Felt very welcome. Everyone went out of there way, to make my experience enjoyable. A+ Facility: The Facility was clean, and very organize. Staff members would go around cleaning and sanitizing the tables, after customers would leave. Also staff would do table touches, and ask if there was anything else I needed or if I needed a refill.
