My wife and I recently chose Alexander's Steakhouse in Cupertino for a special celebration. We had been saving up for a memorable date night and wanted to try a steakhouse that was new to us. Over the years we've enjoyed high-end steakhouses across the country, including experiences in Chicago, New York City, Las Vegas, Seattle, San Francisco, and throughout the Bay Area, so we arrived with high expectations. To make the evening extra special, I hired a chauffeur to drive us to and from the restaurant since we planned to enjoy wine with dinner. We also brought a bottle of Justin from a recent trip to Paso Robles that we had been saving for the occasion. From the moment we arrived, the experience was exceptional. The hosts warmly welcomed us and escorted us to our table. We started the evening with scallops and French Prosecco, both of which were excellent. Our server offered to decant our bottle until the main course arrived, and the service throughout the evening was polished, attentive, and exactly what you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. The food was equally impressive. Both filet mignons were cooked perfectly rare with a beautiful char and seasoning. The potato purée and truffle mac and cheese were outstanding accompaniments, and everything paired wonderfully with our wine. As we finished dinner, the staff brought out a thoughtful celebratory treat before dessert. Unfortunately, this is where the evening took an unexpected turn. A party of five was seated at a nearby table along with two dogs. Shortly after being seated, the dogs became excited and began barking when staff approached the table. I am a dog lover myself, but I was genuinely surprised to see dogs allowed inside the main dining room of a luxury steakhouse. Alexander's has outdoor seating available, and I couldn't help but wonder why guests dining with dogs weren't seated there instead. While the barking wasn't constant, it changed the atmosphere of what had been an elegant and special evening. The experience felt out of place in a restaurant positioned as one of the premier fine dining destinations in the South Bay. Before leaving, I overheard another guest expressing similar concerns while I was in the restroom, so it was clear we weren't the only diners who felt this way. What made the situation particularly disappointing was the effort and expense we had put into making the evening memorable. Between the chauffeur, the special bottle of wine, and the anticipation of celebrating at a top-tier steakhouse, the dining room atmosphere matters just as much as the food and service. To be clear, the food was excellent and the staff delivered a truly five-star experience. However, fine dining is about the complete experience, and allowing dogs in the main dining room significantly detracted from ours. Prior to this visit, I would have ranked Alexander's slightly above other local favorites such as Fleming's and Morton's. After this experience, I'm not so sure. While I don't regret trying it, I'm also not certain we'll be returning. read more

To start, I had the hamachi shooters, and it was a very generous portion. All of the flavors melded together well. For my main, I had the petit filet mignon, and it was cooked perfectly! Service was top tier an the food was solid! We got several different items: Prime rib- Cooked medium rare. It was so tender that you barely had to chew it. Paired with the horse radish and the au jus, it was the perfect combination for bringing out the maximum flavors of the meat. Caesar salad- Can never miss! Perfectly savory and really opens up your appetite when you're hungry for what's to come. Popcorn crab- I liked this dish the most. The crab was perfectly fried and was accompanied with an extremely creamy aioli that I can still taste. The batter was nice and light and the chunks of crab were huge and sweet. Came here for our 8 year anniversary . The bread basket is always amazing , especially the petite croissants. Popcorn crab -- it's incredible. I thought it would be like crab cake with a bunch of ingredients inside but it's actual lumps of crab! Caesar salad -- pretty much flavorless unfortunately. There was no dressing other than the poached egg and some seaweed flakes. In talking to the staff, they might have forgotten the dressing. They did end up taking it off our bill. A burts of flavor that melts in your melt. Bone in ribeye and Filet Minyon. Presentation 10/10. I love a beautiful dish with a flower. My filet was cooked to perfection, which to me is medium. We also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts. I think I have become a Brussels sprout snob...lol. These were good, not the best I had, but good. The portion was smaller than I expected. Desert...winner! Forgot the name, but whatever it is OMG...Yum If you like matcha and chocolate. Get this. Once we finished dinner our server brought us another treat and two glasses of complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary. We came here for a birthday celebration in November. The service is excellent but that's all I really have to say unfortunately. Everything is way overpriced. You can easily make a better steak at home. The food was good enough (but not when you consider the cost) but also severely upset my stomach and made for a terrible nights sleep. The restaurant is way too dark, you can barely see anything. In the pictures you can see what $700 will buy you (there was also 4 alcoholic beverages, a chicken dish, and a soda). We loved how much the staff always takes those special days and turn it into special, memorable moments. Highly recommend: - octopus - lamb lollipops - unagi fried rice (although I really miss the Uni fried rice) - creamed spinach - 1919 root beer and cream drink Would not recommend the prime rib though. It's just a little tooooo chewy with tough tendons. We usually eat the filet mignon but we branched out. My advice is to stick with the filet mignon!! Can't go wrong at all read more

It was my first time at Alexander's Steakhouse, we were waiting for our table at a near by restaurant so decided to go to their bar to grab a drink. First impression, the host station look really nice and the fridge that show different cut of meats at the entrance immediately caught my attention. The restaurant ambiance is dark and the atmosphere feel luxurious. The bar area is separated from the dining room and their liquor shelf is massive. The bartender for the night was professional and seeing him making drinks lowkey feels like watching a performance, he also very attentive and chatty with customers. We got Bruce Lee-Chee, Espresso Martini, and one more drink but I forgot the name of it. They are all vodka-base cocktails, very well made, good taste, and pretty strong. My favorite of the night was the Bruce Lee-Chee, the lychee foam was phenomenal. Overall, it was a great first time visit at the bar for me, definitely need to make a comeback to try out more cocktails (and absolutely their steak) in the future . read more

Both steaks were cooked to perfection. Service was good, just one thing tho. I ordered a drink on a recommendation and I did tell the server sweet drinks were not my preference. Unfortunately, it was definitely a sweet pink drink. He noticed that I wasn't drinking it, and told me to order a second drink. I ordered a second cocktail, thinking it would be a replacement for the one I didn't drink, and unfortunately, they still charged me for both drinks. I didn't notice it until after we paid the bill. We loved that the staff overall was super welcoming and friendly. It was DS's birthday, so we decided to try the steakhouse based on all the hype. Parking in the neighborhood is free but good luck finding a spot since it was packed. Luckily, we scored one close by. Service was 5 out of 5. Everyone was friendly and not pretentious at all. The décor felt a bit old school and boring. I expected more. We started with the steak tartare, which looked better than it tasted. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 but wouldn't recommend it. I ordered filet mignon but it came medium well instead of medium, and I wasn't a fan of the white sauce smothered on it. I'd rate it 2 out of 5. Birthday DS had the porterhouse, and the other DS had the T-bone. For a steakhouse, I was surprised they consistently missed the mark on doneness with all three steaks. The porterhouse was mostly medium instead of medium rare as requested, with the part near the bone so rare it was impossible to cut. The T-bone had a similar issue, with about a third raw and impossible to eat. Both gave their steaks 3.5 out of 5. The sauces were just okay. For the birthday touch, they brought a birthday card and birthday cake for DS, which was a nice gesture. The highlight was dessert. Banana bombe was a solid 4 out of 5, but the raspberry dessert was a perfect 10 out of 5. They brought cotton candy with the bill which was a cute touch, maybe to sweeten the $500 dinner disappointment. We're glad we tried it but it didn't wow us like the steakhouse we had in Texas. Short rib appetizer: the short rib was tender and had a sauce that added to the savory flavor notes, 5/5 stars. Popcorn crab: a light crispy batter with succulent crab. The dipping sauce was creamy and zesty, 4/5 stars. Split bone 19oz ribeye steak ($91): a perfectly cooked medium-rare steak with a char crust that went well with the prime fat marbling, 5/5 stars! Uni fried rice: creamy uni with tender rice that accentuates the protein flavors and textures, 5/5 stars! Truffle fries: a crunchy bite that is well-seasoned and kept us coming back for more, 5/5 stars. Mac & cheese: an elegant rendition due to the high-quality. The creamy cheese all over the soft pasta is another perfect side dish for the proteins, 5/5 stars. The octopus and popcorn crab were just okay. I actually ended up loving the fish dishes more than the steak -- the "mero" sea bass and Ora King salmon were both so unique, and the flavors worked really well together. Ordered the 20th anniversary special menu and I certainly have mixed feelings about it. For $245, you get 8 courses, with the star of the show being the 3oz wagyu confit potato. It was a fun menu, definitely a little out of my comfort zone, but it was enjoyable. My server was amazing, as she was funny, attentive, and incredibly helpful with her suggestions on drinks. At the end of the meal you get to enjoy a cotton candy of the flavor they are offering that day, which for me was blue raspberry. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Miyazaki Tataki: -Very good and flavorful Hamachi Shots: -Definitely not for me, mostly because of the type of sauce used. Gifu Tartare: -This was my first time trying tartare, and it wasn't bad, I'm just not used to it. The chip definitely helped to distract my mind lol. Wagyu Fried Rice: -Very flavorful and delicious 3oz Kagoshima: -My favorite course of them all. The steak was beautifully cooked and the potato was buttery and delicious. Yuzu Sorbet: -Super refreshing palate cleanser. yuzu flavor is strong Miso Soup: -Standard, nothing that particularly stands out Wagyu Fat Brownie: -arrived beautifully decorated, and every part of it was yummy. This is no doubt one of the better steakhouses in California. Every item on the menu is unique and cooked to perfection. My wife ordered Japaneses Wagu and I had the Australian Wagu. Both were prepared exactly as requested and the flavor was heavenly. I tasted hers and although different than the Australian Wagu both melted in our mouths. They have just enough fat to infuse the meat and the fat was not overwhelming. The restaurant is located in a high end shopping center and there is plenty of parking but you must be patient to find a spot. The service meets expectations for this type of establishment. Eduardo was our server and he made recommendations for all our courses since it was our first time patronizing the restaurant. The recommendations were to say the least excellent. The Hamachi Shots were unique and for my wife who doesn't normally partake in uncooked fish the fact that she liked them speaks volumes since she couldn't stop talking about how good they were. The staff was very attentive without being overbearing or pretentious. The interior of the restaurant could use a few more booths for intimate dinners but all in all it was pleasant. After that, the staff's attitude became very rude. This is not a $20 or $30 place where you casually eat meat -- why should I pay $100 for food that is overly salty and impossible to eat? Three times I had to return the meat because I couldn't eat it, yet I still paid for the food I did not eat. I'm so disappointed. Went here for my birthday tonight. Called in advance, was reassured they took my allergies down. Confirmed allergies with hostess, waiter, everyone who came to our table. Waiter was overly confident after I had asked my questions to feel safe to order my surf and turf with asparagus. Personally celiac, but also have lupus. So my allergies are gluten, soy, egg and dairy. Food comes out; my steak has butter on it, my lobster is covered in a creamy ponzu sauce and the asparagus has some creamy sauce on it. My family got to sit there while I waited for them to bring back my food. When I got my plates, I was served plain, barely cooked asparagus, steak which was probably covered in their mix of spices even though I asked for salt and pepper only, and my dry lobster. To say it was disappointing is actually kind. I was extremely disappointed because when the staff would come to our table they were saying this is gluten free, but I was extremely hesitant after my main dish fiasco. I was disappointed because I never got an actual apology about the food being wrong, the fact that I had to eat my food alone because my family was basically done by the time I got my food. I would have expected better from such a high end place. We will not be parroting there again. I do not recommend to anyone with any allergy. It was okay -- not bad, but not particularly memorable either. One thing I did appreciate is that they offer a sliced option, which made it easier to share. The real highlight of the meal was the truffle fries. They were excellent -- very thinly sliced, crisp, and properly seasoned. Easily the best thing we ordered. Dessert was surprisingly disappointing. That was unexpected given how good the desserts are at Alexander's Patisserie. The only sweet that really stood out was actually the complimentary cotton candy they bring at the end of the meal -- when we went it was watermelon flavored, light and fun, and honestly more memorable than the desserts we ordered. I've also seen comments about the seafood, and I have to agree. It tasted a little fishy, which was surprising considering the group also runs Alexander's Seafood. You would expect the seafood program to be stronger. Pricing is on par with other high-end steakhouses in the area, so expectations come with that. He presented himself with such professionalism and treated us like VIP guests. He gave us complimentary Prosecco flutes, complimentary smoked salmon roe, and pumpkin pie bites for dessert. We ordered a porterhouse steak (28 oz) for about $120; medium rare with a cool center. It was served with 3 dipping service which paired beautifully with. The steak was nicely cooked but I do wish it had a better crust on it. We also paired the steak with 3 sides: mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and lobster Mac. The best was their lobster truffle Mac because of the flavors. The mashed potatoes were just eh and their spinach was good. The sides are small but I think enough to get you full. My wife and I shared everything which filled us up. For dessert, we had their banana bombe which had vanilla-banana ice cream covered with a chocolate dome and an espresso-caramel sauce to melt everything. This dessert was perfect and definitely one of our favorites. I forgot to mention their bread basket being excellent too with a buttery and flaky croissants, white bread and this sesame cracker. The bread and butter is always a must and a hit. The cotton candy in the end is just everything and the cherry on top. We had an excellent time for my birthday dinner here. While it wasn't primarily fish as you might expect from a Japanese restaurant, it was definitely inspired by Japanese influence. We paired our meal with cocktails and a great bottle of GSM. Everything was delicious, and we were so full that we had to box up our last entrée and even the cotton candy to take home. The service was fantastic! Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about both the wine and the food, and he added a wonderful presence to our evening. FLAVOR (4/5): We tried their 7 course omakase experience and majority of the dishes were a hit! Let's start off with the free bread because the croissants are insanely buttery and flakey! They have a free started strawberry shooter which was okay. The trio appetizers blew our minds with the tuna tartar being not fishy at all, the lobster cavier was my favorite and the hamachi shots is a classic for this restaurant! The beef tataki is mouth watering and literally melts after 3 bites! The scallop is decent, the sea bass was decent. The short rib was my least favorite course, a bit too salty and a bit too dry. The steak at the end really brought us back to heaven, so tender and so delectable! The dessert was also amazing as a horchata ice cream! INSTAGRAM WORTHY (5/5): There is prestige that comes with the restaurant and if you're eating a 7 course meal it definitely instagram worthy! SERVICE (5/5): After every meal they came over to wipe the crumbs off our table cloth, always had our waters refilled without us asking and the courses flowed out so well.
