Super friendly service and decent food! You can tell there are so many locals and the people there genuinely love working at the bakery. We tried the chocolate croissant and the cherry pastry. The cherry pastry was soooo good. Perfect amount of sweetness and freshness! The chocolate croissant was a bit over cooked and wasn't as buttery as I would've liked. However, the chocolate inside was high quality, There's good parking and it's in a solid location. There's sort of weird decor... not sure how much I was vibing with the hog head but that's just a personal preference! read more

We stopped at Wayward while visiting family after seeing some pictures of Croissants on Yelp. It was so good that we stopped by twice in the same weekend! Coming from the Bay Area, the bread and pastries rivaled some of the best we have had in San Francisco (for the foodies out there, I would put it up there with Tartine, b patisserie, Arsicult). The croissants were perfectly layered, fluffy on the inside with a nice flaky exterior. The chocolate filled croissant was on point with just the right amount of chocolate! We also ordered several pastries which included a very delicious kruffin filled with banana cream and a solid danish with a nice crunchy texture. In addition to the pastries, the seeded bread toast with salmon was an instant classic. Fried in olive oil, it had a crispy bite, that when paired with the savory nutty flavor of the seeded dough and the light tang of cheese spread with lox, was irresistible. In addition to the awesome food, everyone working there seemed very engaged with their work, but were friendly and passionate when asked to identify certain baked goods or explain parts of the goods-making process. It certainly seemed like the owners are detail oriented, because everything seemed to have a great deal of intentionality behind it. Though you won't find a ton of seating options, the place has a hip vibe and a couple of seats inside and outside. It's just enough space to drink down a small cappuccino and eat a pastry or two while listening to indie rock and watching the line of eager patrons grow. read more

I've been to a lot of bakeries and Wayward Baking is one of the top tiers bakeries I've tried! I cannot emphasize how delicious everything was and how it was just at the perfect texture and sweetness!! I tried the pistachios choux puff and it was out of this world, I had to order more just to bring back home! The canele was really good too (I was surprised by how they were even better than SF bakeries). The line wasn't long and it moved pretty fast on a weekend morning. I served the most fabulous Quiche Lorraine that I'd ordered from Wayward Baking in Los Osos to family from out of town, and everyone raved about two things: One, it was a beautiful masterpiece, and two, it was so very delicious. I ordered a week in advance through email. Prompt service, questions happily answered, and worth every penny! We ordered a plethora of items from the Amazing toast variety like Lox and open-faced egg with whatever spread and oils they topped it with, to latte's, to pastries to desserts. It was smashing baby! We savored every bite. I watched a line gather from the opening, then drove by towards closing time, still a line out the door. Not because staff was not wonderful, but because they have excellent customer service, people love this place, and the space is primarily used for act of baking (with a decent-sized staff!). Parking on premises can be an issue but there's street parking available. We arrived near closing time so items available were limited. Inside was very clean and there are a few seats available. They bake everything from scratch and have a variety of sweet and savory options. The apricot scone was full of flavor and the croissant was very flaky and baked to perfection. The five star rating applies to their bread, but *not* their pizza. The bread ranks up with the best sourdough bread I've tasted! Really good! The pizza might get two stars; three at BEST. The crust is good, but the topping is unpleasantly spicy. They might consider "toning it down." I wouldn't order it again as it is now. read more

Still amazing! It's so good every time I go in. I recently tried the garlic croissants and honestly I should have bought 6 they were so good! I love all the things here and I LOVE the quality and attention to detail. It's beyond 5 stars quality and taste! The staff are so lovely and make great recommendations and it's a lovely place to sit and have a coffee and a treat. They even have a little kids area that my son enjoys to play in. Really good bread, great pastries. The main drawback to this place is the hours - who's driving down the freeway before noon on weekends just to get a croissant fix? Well, me obviously, but not nearly as often as I'd like. And they're on the whole quite pricey, but worth it since you can't come regularly enough to be ruined. The croissants are as good as you get between San Francisco and Los Angeles. I even like the meringues, which I had one day at 12:15 because bankers' hours and that was the only thing left. I love their financiers. I've had a couple pies and they're just fine, even though I'm not usually likely to pick pie over other options. Did I mention their croissants are top notch? Omg! This bakery is amaaaazzzingggg!!! First, we went & it was almost closing time but the owner let us in... he was soooo kind to us. Then we bought the pistachio meringue and it was the mostttt delicious meringue I've ever, ever tried in my life!!! I'm going back just to get 20 of those!! Then my hubby tried the oatmeal raisin cookie & that, too, was truly delicious!!! I live in Orange County but I'm going to come back once in a while just to buy from this beautiful little bakery. You should definitely try the Pistachio Meringue it is truly a uniquely delicious and unforgettable taste. Thank you and kudos to the owner for treating us so kindly when we got there.
