I waited a long time to write this review because I didn't want to do it in anger. Howard feels like a tough-luck guy, who kinda still tries; and half-ass delivers on his mess up's; For this reason I'm certain that there are many, like me, who never wrote the review warning others. I really wish people before me took the time to write a warning review. So I am now. Not to hurt Howard, but as a service to others. It's been a full year and now I feel that i can evenly share my experience. I took my mac to Howard and he added RAM. After I got the mac back, my iCloud was multiplying my contacts OUT OF CONTROL like an exponential moment in the Matrix. I took it back to him and he couldn't fix the problem. I had to go elsewhere for help. It took hours with a top tech manager at Apple to stop the madness. (He hadn't reinstalled the settings correctly, and couldn't figure out how.) read more

Latest computer nightmare: wifi failing every few hours, of course, right in the middle of a work project with tight deadline and a major presentation Monday morning on WebEx. Comcast useless. Guaranteed ulcer. Called Howard and he came right over, even tho it was a Sunday morning. Through the years he's been able to fix most things remotely but this one required a house call. Meanwhile I'm going crazy and he keeps reassuring me. He just sat there patiently checking and rechecking, A- so the problem would finally be fixed and B- so I didn't end up wasting money, replacing something that wasn't the cause of the problem. Came with a load of new components (modem, airport, a gazillion wires, power extenders and who knows what else! Just in case.) Figured out the troublemaker, replaced it, and voila! My 2013 Mac desktop just became slow as molasses - yeah, the perpetually spinning rainbow ball taunting me endlessly. After trying several on-line suggestions to bring it up-to-speed, I gave up. Talked to several vendors and Howard just seemed like the right guy and his quote was competitive. He was even willing to come to my house as I had a heavy desktop. However, as his house was close to mine, and as important, had easy street parking, I trucked it over. Long story short, Howard fixed it within his estimate, basically replacing the HD and reloading everything. As I store a lot of videos, music, etc,. I agreed to increasing storage from 1T to 2T HD, a mere $47 increase.. Finally, we added some more RAM to make sure speed stays speedy over the next few years. Howard also spent 1/2 hour with me going running through everything including double-checking or installing new passwords and gave me some good navigation tips. He waived the charge for the tutorial. All in all, I am more than pleased I took it to him. I feel I have a resurrected desktop - like new and should last a few more years - without paying for a new one. It's also clear that Howard is spiritually inclined and thus, ethically does good work and charges what he says he will. Oh, did I mention he's easy to work with? The first time I consulted Howard, he successfully resurrected my mac (Powerbook G4) from the dead and helped me save my data! All i can say is Howard is the B-O-M-B. My computer died and i found him on Yelp, called and he managed to make is way over to my house within a couple of hours. the problem was sadly not an easy one to fix , but he did it as quickly as humanly possible, and saved me a lot of money in the process. I'd been on the verge of buying a new computer and Howard managed to fix my dying computer and update it in the process and it runs like a dream now - faster and more reliable than ever. He also helped me design a back up system, which had a few issues due to a drive failure, and he came back for a trouble shoot on that issue for no extra charge. Howard performed a miracle on my Apple products: a seven year old Mac laptop, an IPad2 Air and an iPhone 5 - all of which had a variety of problems, from not syncing, to announcing - intermittently - that my email was no longer able to send! I am a practicing Psychologist whose clients often check in by email and need quick and dependable responses. With such a simple request it seems easy to give a price quote over the phone. The person who answered the phone was rude and gave no information. While you are glad I went somewhere, so am I. Was visiting SF and my laptop died. Agh!!! Of course I needed to get on it pronto. I found this place through YELP and was impressed with the 5-star reviews. Spoke with Howard and he was very reassuring and was able to come by (!!!) within two hours. Twenty five minutes later, problem solved. And for less money than he thought it would be. Here's the best part. I have to confess the laptop had been a little wonky prior to the trip. I know, I was foolish not to address this problem earlier. Howard is the real Mac Genius. Apple's Genius Bar... not so genius. Howard answered every single question I've ever had about my MacBook Pro. My laptop is 6yo and he basically made it brand new. He increased my drive size x4 and doubled my memory. My Mac was in pretty good condition to begin with because I love that thing like it is my 2nd child lol but it was completely full so I was going to buy a whole new laptop, thats what IT illiterates do when we run out of space haha but Howard saved me hundreds of dollars easily. After my mac completely crashed and couldn't boot up at all, I was at a loss to find a place to fix it that was a reasonable distance away from me. However, I was very lucky to find Howard on Yelp. He gave me a price quote over the phone for his services and saw my computer the same day I called. I got to choose whether I wanted to stick to a replacement 750 GB HD or an SSD, had that installed, and had all of my data recovered and the latest OS X Mavericks installed. Howard is very kind and thorough, a good communicator with good advice, I highly recommend his service over going into an Apple store. I've had to do both, and after having Howard help me out, I'd never go into an Apple store again. I've been a Mac user since the 1990's and have had Howard install several OS updates, migrate information and replace drives for me. It is a pain to be without a computer for a few days, I imagine for others the time might be shorter depending on what you need to have done. Howard did a great job troubleshooting what was wrong with my old computer and giving me an accurate quote on what I needed to have done not only to be up and working, but to be using my computer for years (literally) to come. After returning from the not-so-genius bar in Emeryville - I was stuck - several days earlier I had attempted to upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite and it turned out to be a nightmare with my Mac going to a white screen. I was given several forensic computer places to take my computer to and was told that my bill could be up to $500 - $800 plus. Howard got it all straight for $225. At that point I decided to replace my faulty hard drive and fix the dark spot on my screen + increase my RAM to 20 Gigs. Now my Mac is once again my buddy and I was very happy not to have lost any pictures ect. Howard made a house call and rebuilt and debugged my iTunes library after I upgraded from a PowerPC Mac to a Quad-Core. He had all the tools and apps he needed at his fingertips, and it took much less time to do it than I had to do it myself. I had the infamous apple with white screen freeze on my Mac 27"and he took my computer in and fixed the problem. Unfortunately I needed a new hard drive but that was what I expected. I am very grateful for Harold's presence as a computer service technician in the Bay Area. I've needed two major repairs on the Macbook Pro that I use as the primary computer and creative canvas for my Graphic and Web Design Business. Howard was a very easy guy to work with. I called him, and he literally picked up from my home within a hour or so... I work from home, and watch our son, so you can understand how fragile my situation. My Mac was a sick puppy with just the "grey screen" showing. Problem was mostly my doing, but looked like Photoshop CS4 was still a problem. Howard cleaned up my Mac and reinstalled a fresh OS. Not only did he spend the time to make sure things were right, he dropped off the following morning. He was also very thoughtful of my 3 year old son. I think the repair on my MacBook Air is probably fine, but I just picked it up yesterday. I marked my rating down to three stars because I couldn't get an estimate for the repair cost. I sent three emails where I asked for an estimate, or the cost, and didn't find out until I got the invoice the night before retrieving my Mac. I would like to have had the option to decide up front whether or not I wanted to spend $400 on my Mac, since that is almost half the cost of a brand new one like mine. Howard needs to button up his business dealings with customers just a bit, other than that, I think he likely does good work. read more
