Walked into this store out of the blazing heat outside and two people welcomed us into the cool store. First, probably not a great idea to shop for food items after eating a huge lunch! We Olive is best known for tasty flavored olive oils that are perfect for dipping bread, drizzling over salads and best for making sauces. We Olive also sells specialty vinegars and various gourmet foods that can pair nicely with both olive oil and vinegar. This particular location can be found in downtown Paso. I came by here on a Saturday afternoon, looking specifically for a local snack item, Paso Almonds. I first discovered Paso Almonds (which is delicious almond brittle made locally in San Luis Obispo) a few years ago at a market in Pismo Beach. Although the General Store (a few blocks away from We Olive) also sells Paso Almonds, they actually cost $1 more than Paso Almonds website (since on the Paso Almonds website, it does show that We Olive stores carry their products). Anyways, when I came in, I was greeted by the employee. I walked over to the counter and was about to ask if they sell Paso Almonds when I saw several bags by the register ($15 for 1 lb bags). The service was friendly. When I was paying for my items, I had overheard an employee telling a customer that she can provide samples of any of the oils and vinegars (since the customer had said to the employee that she assumed they were allowed to sample any of the oils. The employee had told her that they can but the employees have to be the ones to pour the samples out in the plastic cups for customers). Just wanted to include that information for those that were wondering about that if you plan on visiting this location. Insanely good stuff. The balsamic vinegars are AMAZING! I've been using a variety for years, peach, blood orange, fig, raspberry, etc. With daily bean salads in a thousand variations being the literal backbone of my diet, the quality of these products make that presuit possible. There's no veggie or bean that I don't like in these salads and the addition of a good olive oil, spices, and this thick, sweet, intensely flavorful product makes it all possible. I've been in the store when it was in Old Fig but recently did mail order from this location. The order was so well packed and came so quickly. A quality oil and balsamic vinegar is a game changer in the kitchen and if you've not tried it, YOU'RE MISSING OUT! I'm eating these bean salads 2-3 times a day and still craving them. Love the olive oil. Customer service is lacking!!! I had family in town from out of state and they wanted to taste and purchase some good oil/vinegar. We walked in and asked about it and were told, oh sorry, we don't have any bread cut up to taste with...I mean we have some whole loaves for sale but none for you. Really?! If you are in customer service-just get one of the breads you DO HAVE and cut it up. It was pretty early in the afternoon-I'm sure you will use it. All were very good but I was drawn to the fresh garlic olive oil and the aged balsamic vinegar. I also purchased a package of the Wine Nots(little snack crackers with white wine from Italy). I was about ready to check out with my oil and vinegar but my husband wanted me to try their "handmade Caramel sauce". I was instantly sold! This was the creamiest, richest Caramel sauce I had ever let my tongue taste. I was envisioning dipping apples into this sauce and feeling heavenly, so of course I had to purchase it. They use no preservatives and it is gluten free. I can tell that I will need to make a return trip back here or order online soon as we have really enjoyed our purchases. I believe they actually have locations all throughout Southern and Northern, but this is the only one in the Central part. The associates are really friendly! I liked this olive oil store much better than the other place just down the street. Yelpers they have a 10% check in offer as well. When we were here we tasted a bunch of olive oils and ended up buying a Meyer Lemon one that cost around $20 but well worth it. My wife used it that night for some aglio olio (I say it ay-a-oye-o) which my wife makes with capellini (like spaghetti) pasta plus a ton of garlic and other spices and this new olive oil. It's a great, cheap dish if you don't have a lot of time or money. The oil we bought came through with a subtle lemon flavor in the pasta. We Olive is a store that sells you guessed it. Olive oils and Vinegar's. I love that you can walk through and sample the oils. Even better when you decide on which ones you like. they fill the bottle from the same tank you sampled from. Albeit 4/5 of the ones I sampled were bitter. I did find a local California oil that was fabulous. I am super excited as it is an amazing smooth perfect oil. They also have some great balsamic's from Modena Italy. Used to have great customer service, now there are different employees every time I go in there and they have an attitude that they don't care if you live or die. They don't even come out from behind the counter to show you any products. They had no answers to the most basic questions. No one else in the store today but me and my husband and they stared at us like they were surprosed we needed to interact with them at all. Ridiculous. Really cute place! I love to buy local! First cold press olive oils, sustainably grown on Cali's Central Coast on a 160 year old estate! Great selection of balsamic vinegars and my new fave place to get olive oil. I use olive oil every single day as I cook a lot and choice is a great thing! A kitchen staple. I recommend the red chili garlic olive oil and the jalapeno olive oil if you like spicy. Great on pasta. We also picked up a smaller size of the basil. Again, for pasta, salads, meats, drizzled on veg. YUM! Going for the blood orange next time we visit. Oh, we picked up a large lemon one as well. I must have tried 10-12 different olive oils. You can try all of what they have at little tasting stations that are kept clean, sanitary and fresh. The shop has all the little touches. Well decorated and rustic/ fancy at the same time. Even the garbage cans for your little sample cups has nice green tissue paper to catch the trash going in. I would say that the customer service was a 4 star for a couple of reasons while the shop itself was a 5 plus. So, a 5. We were so excited with our purchase that I forgot to use my 10% check in at check out (my bad). Same day, we passed through SLO and saw another We Olive location. They also have a nice selection of jams, little spoons, plates, dry pasta and salts (yay for ghost pepper salt!). I love this place. Hubby just reminded me that we also bought some bourbon BBQ sauce there this weekend. Cannot wait to use that! They also had a Merlot BBQ sauce that wasn't bad but I recommend the bourbon. I love that you can try all the different gourmet vinegars, olive oil, and unique spreads. My favorite vinegars are probably the peach, strawberry, or the fig vinegars. I love this store! And Roma who is what I would call "The Store Keeper" offers about the most helpful customer service that I have ever encountered. One day a about two years ago, I had my aunt and uncle visiting. We had done wine tasting and my aunt was so excited to go to We Olive. She had heard about it and when we realized that we were going to be running late, she was so disappointed that she would miss going to the shop. She had wanted to bring home olive oil for everyone as gifts. The store was closed when we were arriving and Roma was just untying her apron. When she saw us with our faces pressed up against the glass of the foor she retied her apron and came smiling to the door to unlock it. She always recognizes me and makes me feel so special! That day my aunt bought a little over a hundred dollars worth of merchandise so it was worth the store remaining open but I am not sure Roma makes a commission. I just think she is their gold mine in a loyal employee! She even took out some samples that had been put away as if it were no trouble...saying she had no where else to go. I think this should probably be a review of Roma but I also love We Olive! Their products are the best and I can always find a gift for my mother in law who loves the store as well. It is just a fun unique place to buy a gift or take a friend who is wanting to take in the shops! Just yesterday I bought a gift for my Mother in law. We Olive is a cute little store that sales olive oil and balsamic vinegar. What is unique: + Many varieties of flavored olive oils and vinegars they have for sale + You may taste the oils and vinegars before purchase + They have "suggested pairings" for the oils and vinegars + The staff are very helpful in explanations and suggestions We purchased the Blood Orange infused olive oil and the aged balsamic. The aged balsamic is thick and full of complex flavors that makes it special. They have little pieces of bread to taste the oils and vinegars, but I just poured a little into the tasting cups and drank it. This may be uncouth, but my sense of taste requires the shock treatment sometimes. It worked so well I plan to use that method in the future. We Olive has nice gift bags so that one may purchase these delicacies for your friends easily enough. They have stores in Los Gatos, Folsom and Walnut Creek - so if you become addicted to aged balsamic as I well might, there are alternative locations to get your fix. The location in Paso Robles is ideal! Close to good restaurants and a block from the Santa Maria Brewing establishment. I wanted to go to an olive farm, but unfortunately they were only open on weekends. Luckily, I found We Olive! They have alot of different olive oils from all over California as well as some other olive products. The best thing is, you can sample all of them! The women in the store were very nice, and were letting us taste as much as we wanted, unlike another olive oil store I've been to in Los Angeles, where all we got was bad attitude every time we wanted to taste. Do you olive, cause I certainly do? On a recent trip to the town of Paso Robles, I decided to do something shockingly different. I headed to downtown rather than going on a booze trip. I mean, been there, done that, and you can only drink so much wine in 100+ degree weather, right? I wanted to see another side of Paso Robles, and figured walking among the locals would be a good start. Downtown Paso was a ghost town at 9AM. The shops, although open, were empty. No one was walking around. I did see a farmer's market, and wondered...where were all the people? As I made my way through the 2 or 3 blocks of downtown shops, I stumbled on "We Olive." Looked fun, and had heard mention of it on my last trip. Rachel was a wealth of knowledge and an awesome sales person. I had various shots of pure olive oil, and had a variety of spreads and tapenade's. Everything was great, but pricey. I guess, real stuff tends to cost more. Some of the olive oils at the store have been known to show up at Whole Foods. I even learned about the red seal, and the itchy factor in my throat. Awesome staff, and lot's of free samples to try. Came in as they were close to closing, and we definitely walked out with some purchases! They are very generous with samples -- you can pretty much try anything they have available. If there isn't a tub of it already out, try asking! Yes, even the olives! We walked out with some spreads, compotes, and sea salt caramel. The beauty of this place is that seriously, 80% of what they sell there is open for tasting--oils, vinegars, tapenades, spreads, etc! I tasted almost everything in the store and it was totally encouraged! The products tended to be a little on the pricey side but the quality did live up to the price tag in most cases. Many of the products were locally made, which was awesome. My favorite things were the bread dipping oil (olive oil mixed with herbs and spices to use for dripping, drizzling, or marinades!) and the chipotle chile oil which had quite a bit of a kick to it.
