Interesting store right next to Negranti Creamery, perfect to stroll into after a great dessert. So many products in here to browse and discover. Be careful for the sweet little lady Ms. Soni, who will come to kindly offer you tastes of the various oils and balsamic & her favorite mixes of them, lol. Once you start trying things... Came in just to look and wife's eyes opened with every tasting Ms. Soni suggested, hahaha. Wife ended up buying bottles of this and that. At checkout, I told Ms. Soni that I will be warning people about her, cause once you try her suggestions, you will surely covet the discoveries. She's a great, zero pressure sales master that knows her products! Even I managed to lock my eyes onto a Medusa, a jar of bleu cheese stuffed olives! In vermouth no less! Can't stand the olives in markets with oil in them, so this froze me at the thought to putting in my dirty martini, so it got added to the bag, lol. Trying the bleu cheese olives at home in martini, I think they are good and delicious, but too salty. Maybe I need to dunk the olives in water to get some salt out of it to make it better. Otherwise, delicious addition to the martini! And the joys of having bleu cheese olives at home made me think I may try stuffing myself when I finish this bottle, so this is a place for discovery and ideas to come alive by visiting! Olivas de Oro is an olive oil grower and producer as they grow their olive trees right on their 160 acre property. I have searched high and I have searched wide to find a local single origin oil maker. I'm happy to report that they are located in California in Tin City. They provide tastings as they have numerous infused flavors including the basil purchased in photo. They start by pressing the herbs or peppers with freshly made olive oil and viola. They also offer artisan vinegars. It was clean inside and everyone friendly. I enjoyed the oil tasting experience as there were so many flavors to choose from. This was a fun place to try out some tasty oils and vinegars. Our host was very friendly and seemed to enjoy sharing and explaining the different oils, and how they paired with some of the balsamic vinegars for certain food pairings. We tasted them all on tiny plastic spoons, and had fun doing it. If you happen to be in Tin City, seek them out. It's a worthwhile experience. My four star rating, vs. a five, is for the prices. Not just the oils and vinegars, but everything else as well. It's a place for tourists to spend. I get that, but the very tasty Mission Reserve bottle I bought was $24. for an 8.45 ounce bottle. Good oil, but $100 a liter? Maybe that's fair, but seemed high. I haven't tasted olive oils in a while, so will have to do that to compare. Of note is that I didn't taste any of the truly grassy, astringent oils I was seeking. The kind that really irritate the throat but in a good way. read more

I would have rated Olivas higher, but the woman working was very rude when we walked through the door. She literally asked us what we wanted in a snotty voice, as if we were inconveniencing her. I told her we wouldn't know until we got inside and saw what they had. They do have a great selection of olive oils. It was the salts that I was drawn to, they had one with some great heat (peppers) and a truffle salt that would be fantastic as a finishing salt. We came here expecting a normal olive oil shop but it was really a fun experience coming here. They offered a tasting or sample. We were a larger party but the lady helping us was really patient and nice. I think I was really blown away w their olive oil in general. I can taste the bitter after taste confirming that the olive oil wasn't blended and pure olive oil. My favorites were the basil and garlic one. Other highlights included the aged balsamic vinegars. This was the most fun and interactive tasting of our weekend in Paso Robles! We did a lot of wine tasting while we were in town, but the olive oil tasting was totally worth it. We scheduled a tasting in advance; tastings are free, but we upgraded to the "happy ending", which in this case is a mandarin orange brownie and a glass of champagne priced at $15 a person. We spent about 15 minutes doing the tasting, which included olive oils, balsamic vinegar, jams, tapenades, and even two chimichurri sauces. The person helping us was super friendly and informative and answered all of our questions. We bought some olive oil and balsamic vinegar to take home with us. My son's girlfriend was visiting from Northern California, and we decided to take them to Tin City for lunch at Etto Pasta Bar. Before lunch, we stopped by Olivas de Oro for an olive oil tasting. This was only my second visit to the shop; the first was in January 2024, when I left with bottles of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and olive tapenade. If I'd stayed longer, my wallet would have taken an even bigger hit! Neither my son nor his girlfriend had ever been olive oil tasting, so this was a new experience for them. Our host was incredibly knowledgeable about the oils and walked us through the process behind this family-owned business. We tasted a variety of extra virgin olive oils, including Arbequina, Mission, and Mission Reserve, before moving on to their blends. The blends were especially interesting, with flavors like Meyer lemon and white fig, mandarin orange and vanilla bean, rosemary and Pacific spice, just to name a few. For those who enjoy heat, they offered spicy options like red chili garlic and habanero oils. While both were flavorful, I found them a bit too spicy for my cooking preferences. After sampling the oils, the kids explored the sauces and condiments. I revisited one of my favorites, the bacon chipotle jam, and also tried the BBQ slather--both were excellent and packed with flavor. The kids seemed to sample just about everything and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Before leaving, I purchased a bottle of Mission EVOO and an aged balsamic vinegar. Both were put to good use that evening in a bruschetta appetizer, which was a huge hit. I also picked up a Meyer lemon olive oil as a gift. Paso Robles is brimming with great olive oils, from wineries that press their own to small family businesses scattered across the hills and even tasting rooms downtown. Olivas de Oro has quickly become one of my favorites. With fresh, flavorful offerings and excellent service, we'll definitely continue returning for our olive oil and vinegar needs. read more

It's almost 6 years later and countless bottles of Olivas de Oro's habanero oil have been consumed by me. We go back at least once a year to stock up. Last time, I bought the largest bag of it, since it's harder for us to get away on road trips now that we have a slightly anxious dog in tow. I also picked up a gift set the last time we were in, and my friend and her mom absolutely raved about it. In fact, her mom chastised her for never having brought her to this store on their many drives down to Santa Barbara. To be fair, she didn't know about this place, but she does now! Whenever I run out and we don't have a trip down to the central coast planned, I just mail order it. I don't even care about the price anymore. At this point, it's such a staple in my home that I can't be without it. I've tried other brands - several, actually - and none have even come close to the flavor and quality of this stuff. If you need a little break from wine tasting while visiting paso, look no further, this is the perfect stop. My group of 4 showed up with no reservations and were walked through a roughly 45 min tasting of all of their oil oils, vinegars, fun jams and chutneys. This experience was free but felt like something we should have paid for. The service was impeccable and I'd recommend to anyone in the area visiting. The host who helped us ( I forgot her name ) walked us through about 30 different combinations of olive oils & specialty vinegars , dressings & marinades . I want to recommend Olivas de Oro not just because it's my favorite olive oil, but also because of the exceptional customer service I received from the owner, Marti. I discovered Olivas de Ora years ago when I was on my yearly work retreat in Paso Robles. I had a great experience in-store, and I bought a load of oils and vinegars. I've repeated that shopping trip every year, stocking up on holidays gifts for friends and families. On my most recent trip, I bought a lot, including a large pouch of Arbequina Reserve. Unfortunately, upon returning to Los Angeles, the pouch leaked after usage. At first, it wasn't a big deal but the defective packaging caused lots of the oil to be wasted. As a small business owner myself, I hate bothering businesses, but I emailed hoping for a store credit. Marti replied himself within a few hours. He not only offered a full-sized replacement, but also sent an empty bottle so I could rescue what oil is left in defective pouch. The box arrived within a few days with a hand-written note. Can't believe I never reviewed this Olive tasting room. Stumbled upon it while at tin city six months ago and then went back today. The girl that helped us Casey, last time gave us a tasting of at least four olive oil's and four balsamic. Went back today and my husband tasted some different ones. My favorite olive oil is basil and my favorite balsamic is blackberry. We ended up purchasing two medium bottles and two small. It's such a cute place and they have other things you can buy. Highly recommend booking in advance 20 mins olive oil demonstration via their website. We scheduled a few weeks in advance for earliest time slot at 10:30 a.m. It's free! Excellent, tailored and personable customer service from our gracious and hardworking, Rae. First, we're given a tour of the modern and quaint shop. Then, she brought us over to all the different bottles of olive oils, poured a few drops starting with the lightest and eventually worked our way to heaviest tasting in our spoon. We're able to try a mix of two, three and four different flavors of olive oils per spoon. We did not try all of the olive oils. We also moved to another area offering marinades, chutney, sauces. Our demonstrator asked us lots of questions regarding preferences at both stations. Located in the heart of Tin City next to an ice cream shop, eateries, breweries, and wineries in Paso Robles, CA. If we had more free time, we envision spending an entire day here, park vehicle in the vicinity via street or adjacent parking lots, then walk from one place to the next. We're very happy that we made reservations. This helped us decide on taste preferences and future uses with food, baking and cooking. Our favorite was Mission Reserve paired with Aged Balsamic. All of the ones I've tried tasted amazing! Mission Reserve, Meyer Lemon, Black Truffle, Habanero, Pacific Spice, Vanilla Bean Balsamic, White Truffle Aged Balsamic. Fancy olive oil shop, located in Tin City, featuring free tastings with the hopes to try to sell you their products and/or an annual membership. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, often throwing out examples of what certain oils and vinegars could be paired with. The flavors are all on point, and we loved almost all of them! No purchase was required to sample, but we ended up signing up for the Pairings Club, which gets us two annual shipments of three 750 ml of product. They also have a cheaper Press Club which gets you two annual shipments of three 250 ml bottles. You can purchase without committing to a membership though! What a cool little olive oil store! And what an awesome 'find' - Tin City. I feel like each time I go to Paso Robles there's something new I stumble upon. The parking isn't the best, but once you find a spot, you can wander into a dozen winerys/stores. Olivas de Oro is one of them. We got there upon opening. A wonderful lady, Terry, got us set up with a tasting. Wow, there's a ton of oils and vinegars to try! I wish we could have sat down. We were all standing around with a miniature spoon in-hand as she dropped a couple beads of each oil/vinegar for us to try. It was super informative, but I got tired of standing after a bit. There were more sauces/condiments/rubs/salts to taste, and with these we got to taste with crackers or bread. That was nice. I give them 4 stars only because there wasn't a beautiful olive tree farm to experience like a few others in the area. Their orchards were out of town, but I'm not sure visitors are allowed. They were stocked to full capacity though. We grabbed the oils/vinegars we wanted and were out'a there in no time - on to new adventures! I may or may not be back. I like to experience the olive orchards themselves and this one was lacking that. Olivas has high quality products though and said their trees were more than 100 years old. That's impressive - they even transplanted one just outside the shop. But I'd love to see all the others ... maybe someday. read more

Local Take: "POW... RIGHT IN THE KISSER"! Hello healthy Polyphenols! That was the impact that their full flavored Mission Reserve EVOO had on me when I first tasted it at home. AKA- Serendipity strikes again! Prior to this, I never had a clue what fantastic EVOO actually tasted like. Obviously, I have missed out on a good thing for my entire life. How did no one, nor any restaurant, ever serve me, this Golden miracle of Mission EVOO? I even searched the internet to help put words to my taste & smell sensations...and ironically, but not surprisingly, the La Panza Rd./Creston-based wizards of Olives de Oro, describe it just about right on their web description [under "The Freshest Olives"]. BTW- Creston is a tiny town just East of the Atascadero. That is, " Description This distinctive extra virgin olive oil is grown utilizing sustainable practices. Select Mission olives are harvested early in the season when they have the maximum aroma and minimum acidity. The result is a robust single cultivar olive oil with a fruity aroma, herbaceous tones, fresh cut grass, tomato leaf and a persistent peppery finish...." How did I discover this? Purely by random serendipity. While shopping at the Big 5 in Atascadero, I wanted to finally taste and not just read about the amazing Sheepmilk Ice-cream shop in Tin City. Parking was an issue, but I notice a vacant spot right in front of this Olive Oil shop. Since we walked up the stairs, it looked so inviting, we spontaneously visited them. Upon entering, I did see the tasting areas and a nice staff member greeted me with a smile and offered a tasting to us. I declined since, I read up a bit on Olive Oil, after seeing a shocking study in ConsumerLabs.com which basically studied many popular imported & some domesticate brands, and found that many even ranked LOWER THAN FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION! It is otherwise known as LAMPANTE & not healthy at all. I did find a recent contest that is run by the Central Coast Olive Oil Competition, and wondered if they were involved in that particular one, they were not, but won many other awards. I was so impressed by the place, the honesty, the locality, the ambiance, and that they have won prior rewards, that I was going to take a chance on a full bodied Olive Oil, even in my profound ignorance. I did not want to mess with tasting various flavors and vinegars and just wanted the pure fresh real deal. It turns out, that there was a light version, a mixed version, and the Mission robust flavored version. Since I was just winging it, I promptly bought a robust bottle sight unseen....which is not like me at all. I had no expectations, since I had the prejudicial incorrect opinion that all Olive Oils tasted rather boring, bland, & pretty much identical. While it was really close to closing time, we will surely be back in the future after reading a bunch of local articles about them in The Tribune from 2012. It tells of the fascinating Menacho couple who did a fantastic project. Little did I know that most of their Olive trees were 100 year old transplants from way up in northern CA. I also did not know that the Mission Olives were originally brought here by the Spanish & grown in their many Missions. Later DNA analysis showed that they were not related to Spanish Olives, but more related to Morrocan Olives! I made similar discoveries over time with coffee, jamon, cider, & on that same day, with Sheepmilk Ice cream [also amazingly serendipitous]. In any case, we surely will be back to try some tastings, and check out their products, with a new perspective. I also learned via their website that they cold press their spices/flavors along with their Olives so that the scents, oils, & flavors merge cohesively, and are not a mere "infusion". Now that I am a bit wiser, I will also seek out, taste, savor, & enjoy the plethora of other Olive Oils that both Olivas de Oro produces, as well as, other farmers on our wonderful Central Coast. As I note below, their products have been winning awards for quite a few years, particular from 2013 to at least 2018, with Bronze, Silver, & Gold Medals. As for more recent years, it does not appear that they entered. I wish to thank the helpful staff lady & the owners, Frank and Marti Menacho, for their hard work & wondrous creations! Mangia! Tasting for free or two tastings for $25 with a flute of champagne and brownies, i did the paid option twice in one week bringing friends there but would recommend doing the FREE option and just purchasing the brownies separate. Mostly blends of olive oils and very delicate balanced infusuons. You get about 2-3 drops of olive oil on those small plastic tasting spoons. For me personally I felt like i wanted more of a taste. This was a fabulous experience of tasting and blends of oil and vinegar. Have to say, it was far more fun that tasting local beer! There are so many variations that are too die for. The hardest decision is where do you cut yourself off on the purchase. We loved many of the naturally flavored olive oils but then there were some of the "jams" etc. as well. In a sea of wine tasting, why not shake things up with an olive oil tasting? We walked in and were immediately greeted by the staff who walked us through a free oil tasting. The tasting started with simple and regular olive oils and then transitioned into flavorful blends such as basil, mandarin orange, truffle and habanero. We really enjoyed the mix of olive oils with balsamic vinegars. They had us try an olive oil and then blended it with the balsamic. They were delicious! We took home a bottle of the fig balsamic that is going to be the perfect salad dressing. We also took home a four pack of smaller sized oils included two of their regular blends plus a basil and lemon. Loved the olive oil tasting at this place. I haven't done an olive oil tasting before and was slightly skeptical, but it was a really fun experience. You could taste the distinct flavors in the oils. My favorite part was how some of the oils and vinegars blended together to produce bold and multi dimensional flavors (e.g meyer lemon oil with the vanilla bean balsamic). I personally enjoyed the meyer lemon, italian herb and the red chilli garlic olive oil. We made a reservation online - you can choose a free tasting or a premium tasting with some add ons - brownie and champagne. We opted in for the free tasting - which included tasting of all ~15 olive oils and combination of oils and vinegars. This was then followed by tasting of artisan dips and spreads, with crackers and bread. We ended up purchasing a few of the oils and a vinegar.
