If I could give less then one star I would, only to get the owners attention. This place! My God! The moment you walk in that stinky carpets smell is just discussing!!! Are you so used to this smell that you can no longer feel it? We were in hurry and my husband went in and placed an order while I was on the conference call. Since we couldn't find anything close to us in the area for breakfast this was the only place. By the time I walked in, it was too late to cancel the order since plates were already on table. Potato's we're fried until black-you can see these are brined! and why using so much salty cheese in eggs?! Pancakes were flat. Any way, obviously we will never be back but men this place needs cleaning and a deep one. read more

I visited Family Fare for the first time in many years for a late Sunday breakfast. They weren't busy at all. The server took my order quickly and the food arrived quickly as well. My meal was delicious, and the price reasonable, which didn't surprise me at all. What was a surprise is that the server never came by to ask me how my meal was or to ask if I'd like more coffee. Another server took my plate away when I was finished and then a third server brought me my check. During this entire time the original server was either standing at the back of the restaurant by the kitchen or talking to another server. She did not have any other customers! In the past I have always had such good service. This was so disappointing! I left a twenty percent tip, but wish I had spoken up at the time. Not very busy today. The home fries on two of the breakfast dishes this morning or cold. And the toast didn't have much for butter on it and there was no butter on the table. The service even though it was slow was slow I've been to this facility a few times for breakfast and the last couple of times I've been there. Let me start off by saying this restaurant is basically a breakfast place for me. If you are afraid of going back to restaurants (because of covid), our table, silverware, dishes, and coffee cups were clean (as they should be). We noticed the waitress cleaning the menus when we were done with them. There are plastic partitions between each booth to help with socially distancing people. Some tables were removed to help with the social distance. Disclaimer: I did not use the bathroom so I don't know the cleanliness of it. We enjoyed our breakfasts and coffees. I am so disappointed. I've been coming here for years, food is good for the price. I went in today with my boyfriend and I wanted to use a gift card my mom got me last year for Christmas. It had $25 on it. My waitress comes to the table and tells me they don't use those gift cards anymore, and then walks away and leaves us hanging. We wait 5 minutes because we had assumed she was getting someone to help us, but no she just went back to refilling coffee. First time I've ever not tipped my server. DO NOT BUY GIFT CARDS HERE! I don't know if I'll be coming back, I am so angry and disappointed in my service. read more

Just had a pleasant surprise of a breakfast at Family Fare. I expected it to be inexpensive, but was unsure how the food would stack up. It ended up being much better than I anticipated. We had Eggs Benedict and their fluffy, hit-the-spot banana and blueberry pancakes. Truthfully, I wanted to order another pancake just for myself after tasting them. The portion sizes were just right, and of course, wallet-friendly. The place was steady this a.m. with (I'm assuming) many regulars, but not crowded. I ordered a Greek omelette and my fiancee ordered a hungry man special that comes with coffee. Earlier I had ordered a coffee and when my fiancee's meal came out he didn't receive a coffee. We did not realize this until the bill came that I was charged for the coffee. Since he did not have coffee, we asked if we could have that taken off. They refused and told us that only the person who gets the hungryman can drink the coffee. We have decided to not come back based on the fact that it seems they really want to nickel and dime you if given the chance! read more

Family Fare is easily one of the best local breakfast places I've ever been to. The restaurant is small, tucked away in the Sam's Mart strip mall across from my old high school. Breakfast on weekends is especially busy, and a 15-30 minute wait is not atypical. (Tip: Get there early before the church crowd or wait until close to noon for the shortest waits). My husband and I have been here many times. We just haven't found another place that does better breakfast. Their everyday special ("The Hungryman") is the best value we've seen anywhere - you get a lot of good food (eggs, pancakes, bacon/sausage, home fries, toast) plus unlimited coffee for a very reasonable price. I am especially a fan of their thick and fluffy pancakes. While we prefer breakfast at the Family Fare, their lunch and dinner offerings are also worth checking out. They have a nice varied menu (something for everybody) and the food is standard but good. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Service is always spot on. The waitstaff are quite friendly and the food comes out quick, even when it is very busy. But you never feel rushed. There are a lot of regulars who seem to hang out all morning. i want to start this off by saying that this is my first time ever using yelp and i honestly think it's a waste of time seeing people leave bad reviews but i just couldn't resist. I got eggs benedict soggy english muffin way too salty. omelette over cooked crunchy dry and over salted. home fries undercooked completely unsalted. the only highlight from this experience is when i got home threw the homefries on the stove to COOK FULLY and put salt on them. very disappointed. read more

Huge plates of food, friendly service, Greek-American specialties, plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. Family Fare is a nice place to take the family. We ordered stuffed cabbage and stuffed peppers for lunch, and it was we who were stuffed before we were halfway through our ginormous portions. I took one-and-a-half log-sized stuffed cabbage leaves home and got three meals out of it. The side dishes of various veggies and potatoes were ample too, and went home with the entree. They have tasty shrimp on linguini with a light garlic sauce. Again, more than the average diner can eat in one sitting. We've also tried the steamed mussel appetizer, and while it doesn;t come with anything (besides the complementary rolls and butter that are served at every table), it can be an entree for someone who wants "just enough" mussels and orders a side salad to accompany it. There is a daily specials board you can check for such delicacies as broiled swordfish. The regular menu is varied. There's sure to be something there for any diner with an appetite, or space in the fridge at home for a couple days' meals. read more

Family Fare-ly Forgettable My mom frequents this place *a lot* and she says the dinners (turkey, salmon, etc.) are just great, but she, my sister and I went for lunch last Thursday and I have to say, I was not happy. I had ordered the Reuben and it was not a stretch to say the best thing about it was the bread. Two things stood out as being overtly wrong about the sandwich. First, it was totally drenched in Thousand Island (or French) dressing. Every bite completely smeared my hands and I had to use many napkins to clean up. I couldn't even tell how the sauerkraut tasted and if there was even cheese on it. The second was the corned beef. There was something off about it. It was cut too thick and it tasted fatty, though it didn't look fatty. Perhaps it was the cut. I don't know. Shortly after the meal, my stomach was was decidedly unhappy. In fact, I didn't eat again until 8:00 pm that evening, which is totally unlike me. My mom had the Hot Pastrami sandwich, which she said was ok, and my sister had Bacon and Eggs, which she said was good. Maybe I'll stick with breakfast too if I come back. The things we do for our mothers... I would have given it one star, but since my mom and sister were at least ok with theirs, I bumped it to two. read more

This local restaurant serves up generous portions of Italian and comfort food at family-friendly prices. Our party of seven sat at a comfortable round table and enjoyed a leisurely meal. Bread was hot out of the oven; the eggplant parm and side of angel hair would have satisfied two robust appetites. No complaints from any of our party. The service was attentive and the desserts delicious (we saved room by packing half of our meals). It is nice to see an ample wedge of chocolate cake for $3.75 when chain restaurants are charging $6.95 and up for the same portion! If you're over 70, you will have plenty of company for an early dinner. That's not a knock, just a fact. But it is indeed that very crowd that the dinner fare seems to reflect, with mash potatoes attached to just about every entree and the standard boiled carrots as one of the vegetable options. Let's not dwell solely on the clientele but rather switch to the positives. The dinner rolls are hot, tasty and virtually irresistible. The salads are chilled and fresh. The service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing while the prices keep the pensioners coming back for more. So what's the knock? Well, I won't even criticize the lack of ambiance as this is a no frills joint that's clean and spacious enough where you don't feel crammed. But the food is good, just not memorable. The Italian dishes are typical of a non-Italian kitchen with the pasta overcooked and the entrees lacking a memorable "gravy" (sauce to the uninitiated). I had steak tips on my most recent visit and they were broiled not grilled. There was no char and my first tip had a gamey flavor. I thought I was going to have to send the dish back but found the other large tips acceptable. The rice was soupy (as I rejected the starchy mashed potatoes for the rice) but not terrible, just blah. The point I am making is that if you want a step up in class you will pay a substantial up-charge for it anywhere else. However, if you're looking for a decent meal that won't break your bank, this is the place. I have not had breakfast here but I believe the kitchen is far more suited to the typical eggs, bacon, etc and lunch in that it is far less fussy to make an omelette, club sandwich or burger rather than an authentic Italian rendering. There is plenty of value here and the fish and fried plates are excellent. So for that perhaps this should be given a four-star review but the mediocrity of some of the other entrees prohibits me from doing so. read more

Just ordered lunch takeout from this place today for the first time. We got salads with pita bread on the side. The pita bread was days old, stale and falling apart. Some parts of the lettuce had brown spots, the veggies were not fresh and to top it all off no utensils we're provided to us forcing us to eat with our hands. To write a review with only one star is killing me. I go to Family Fare all the time and I also do many "take-outs" from there. Over the years I have gone to Family Fare more times than I can count and only once did I get a meal with soggy French fries while dining in. YUCK. My guests also received the same with their seafood that day. We sent it back and ordered anything except food cooked in the fry-o-later. It was rectified but the dinners we received this day were not what we wanted. I got a take-out a few days ago and it was a total disaster with greasy, heavy, dirty-looking fried foods. Definitely not for me or anyone else to eat. Okay time for an edit. I upped the stars to three for now. Anyway, I went back a couple of days later, with the food and spoke with the owner. He apologized and was very pleasant and felt horrible what another chef did while he was not there. He wanted to cook me another dinner on the spot but It I told him it was unnecessary. He insisted on giving me a gift certificate before I left. I can honestly say "he righted the wrongs". Now, when I go back next week, I am hoping and praying the fried food is light and fresh and non-greasy. We will just have to wait and see. Family Fare is great! The prices are cheap, the portions are big, and the food is always fresh and good. Most time I go here I get the eggplant rollatini with a side of extra roasted veggies in stead of pasta, and a cup of the chicken soup. The eggplant is sauteed and the rolled into 4 pieces stuffed with ricotta cheese,spinach,and grape tomatoes, then topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Delicious! My husband alway gets the baked lamb shank with the roasted potatoes or the rice and the roasted veggies, with the clam chowder. We are always satisfied with the food here and the service is very nice and friendly! They have a big menu with lots of variety so there is something for everyone :) read more

The most disgusting chicken kebob salad I ever had. They overloaded it with fried onions, mushrooms and peppers, very slimy. The chicken was tough and chewy with plenty of gristle. There was no way I could eat it, made me very nauseous. Threw it down the garbage disposal. Never go back there again, over the years this place has gone downhill. Family Fare is very casual , the atmosphere is just one open room ,don't expect privacy. NOT at all a comfy and clean place. The food is horrible and low quality.. Service is quick and non existent. They just throw it and go. Food wise don't expect anything too fancy, the hungry special is a good deal but has no flavor at all and ingredients taste and look cheap.
