ATTN CHICAGO LGBTQ FAM: I have TWICE been confronted by Webster's staff while using the women's restroom during visits there. The first time I was told the staff would receive some kind of LGBTQ training to understand trans/gender nonconforming people and bathroom issues. When it happened AGAIN, in an incident where the bartender was banging on the bathroom door and not letting other women in the bathroom because he was certain "a man" was in there, my girlfriend and I talked to the manager, Charles, who did nothing, barely apologized, and acted powerless because he "wasn't there when it happened." This bar is not safe for us. And when shit goes down in that space the Webster's staff will NOT advocate for us, show interest or specific concern or questions about our experience, and they will do nothing. They are completely unprepared to deal with conflict and lack the vocabulary to even begin to have a conversation with LGBTQ people about their space. Let's not bring LGBTQ business to Webster's until they actually prove to be a safe space for us. read more

One of my favorite spots in all of Chicago. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about their entire extensive menu. I never get the same thing twice, and always trust the staff for their recommendations. Visited about a month ago. Service is par at best. Bartenders knew little about wine and seemed annoyed about questions that were asked.

Met up with a friend to catch up and we loved everything about it. We had ~3 different wines and loved them all. Only had the French fries and brussel sprouts and they were devine. The ambiance is cute, I do think the chairs can be a little more comfortable though. Overall, a really nice experience! read more

Amazing place!! This is by far one of the coziest places I've been and is perfect for a chill night. I've come here so many times to the point that I even have a specific chair I like to sit on every time I visit. Love the new location! It's perfectly situated on Logan Square with views from all the windows, comfy sofas, two bars and one of the best wine lists in the city. And here's a secret that clearly no one knows about yet as it should pack the place, but there is live entertainment every Monday night at Webster's between 8:30 and 11. And not just any entertainment- great entertainment . . .for FREE! I went on the night Abraham Mellish was there (check him out as he is a great acoustical guitarist from Liberia who connects with everyone who hears him)- but the talent changes weekly so you may want to check out their website or call to see who is there on the Monday you pick. Service was spot on and I love that the same chef from when this place was Telegraph is still in place as are some of my favorite food items like the meatballs and the mussels. If you drive- parking is always a bit of a challenge around here but there is a large city paid lot across the street by the Blue line which is really reasonable. Perfect for a quiet night out, date night, girls night or pretty much whatever night you are having, Webster's does it right. read more

Had dinner on the patio. Great people watching and enjoyed the ambiance. Very friendly staff. Waitress suggested a light red wine that seemed like a Rose Cab blend. It was fantastic, not sweet at all. Appetizers were the raw and grilled oysters. They were both great, the raw tasted extremely fresh and not chewy at all. But I enjoyed the grilled more. They came with a pesto on top which was tasty. Ordered the meat and cheese board, also added the goose salami. Everything was great, all the cheeses had tons of flavor, both red and yellow jams were sweet but not too much. The bread was hot and fresh with butter drizzled on it. The crackers were AWESOME. I have no idea how crackers can be this good. Salami was decent and had a nice flavor. Dinner we ordered the crispy Brussel sprouts. They were buttery with cheese on top. They were great albeit a touch salty for us. Next was the burger, it was very good. Nice crispy potatoes on top gave it an amazing texture, medium rare was perfect, and tasted like a touch of BBQ sauce was added. Really enjoyed it. Also ordered the frites as a side. Very well cooked, crispy and fresh, but again only complaint was a touch too salty. Really enjoyed my experience and will be back. Very convenient new location right off of the Logan Square Blue Line stop. The setup is just a little different from the old Webster location as there are 2 separate rooms both equipped with their own bar. They kept the library feel in one of the rooms which is cool and sparks nostalgia of the old location. My party of 3 got a seat on the couch that is over to the right once you walk in the door. The menu is still quite vast with tons of wine selections. I was feeling like a rose' since it was a nice summer evening. I tried all 3 rose' options they had by the glass and they were all quite good. We worked up an appetite drinking so we ordered a cheese platter that came with 3 different cheeses recommended by our waitress. Very good as they came with bread in addition to some spreads. The new location lacks the parking perks the old location had, but the spot is still good to gram some good wine read more

We came to Webster's Wine Bar Friday night on a suggestion from my Bestie's husband. He figured two classy broads like us should have our catch-up in a classy place. Thanks for believing in us Bff's Hubby! I was immediately greeted by a server and told me I could sit anywhere. It's super cozy and romantic in here. Definitely a good spot for date night. It's got great combination of sofas and regular tables to choose from. It's surprisingly large, with a room at the back, which is where we sat. They had an impressive list of wines, a good selection of craft beers and a decent sized cocktail menu. Since my friend and I know nothing about wines and just know what liquor we like, we decided to stick with cocktails. I'm a whiskey gal, so I got the "An American Accent (is cute in Paris)" and the bestie got "Surf Rider". Both drinks were delicious! As for food we shared the Antipasto, Dates, Pomme Frites, and the Green Salad. All were pretty damn good. For the dessert, we took our server's suggestion and went for the Honey Pie. That's probably where this fell short. It had an interesting taste. Not bad. Just interesting. To be fair, the pie was from Bang Bang Pie Shop, who I hear has great pies. This one just wasn't our favorite. Per usual, we stayed there for about 6 hours and the server kept checking up on us through out and she was super nice. Overall, a great Date Night spot for lovers and besties, or just for a chill vibe from the rest of Logan Square. It's in a great location, right off of the blue line. We just had the best evening! Jerome, our waiter, was charming, knowledgeable, and so helpful with recommendations. We had the opportunity to taste a couple of wines the help with our decision. Overall I really like this place. Food was good and the wine was great even tho I didn't get to have a glass I actually liked. Such a nice spot to have a relaxing evening with good company. Tried the venison pate w sweet corn relish that was really good. The arancini, smoked cacciocavallo cheese that is deep fried gnocchi (amazing) and the Suzuki bass with chickpea panisse n yogurt that was better than I expected. I went to Webster's with a group of my friends last night and the experience was pretty terrible. Few things that I want to be sure to share... 1. Don't order the old fashion. Yes I get that this spot is a wine bar, but if you're going to offer other options... make them well. The old fashion had wayyyy too much syrup which resulted in it tasting way too sweet. 2. This is a wine bar that we are taking about here, so everyone should know their stuff... right? One of my girlfriends was asking about Finger Lakes and trying to better understand what this region is known for so she asked the server. Our server responded "well um it's a wine region." Not only did she respond in a sarcastic and rude tone, but it was clear that she didn't know anything about wine. Time for Webster's to offer their employees training!! 3. We had a reservation for 8 people and two people in our reservation were running 15 minutes late. The hostess came by and started to take away the chairs and I said "oh sorry we had a reservation for 8. As I mentioned earlier, those people are running 15 minutes late." The hostess proceeded to roll her eyes at me and said "well I need this for another table." Honestly I gave up at that point and let her take the chairs and ended up borrowing chairs from an empty table behind us. I simply wouldn't come back to this place again nor would I recommend it to anyone. There are so many other spots in Chicago and it's places like this that have to do some serious self reflection especially when you are going to charge a premium for service and products and then have terrible customer service. read more

Everything here is excellent. The staff is friendly and the food and wine are quality. I've had the venison tartare (outstanding and a bit of an adventurous moment for me. Way more than enough food for one person. Try to have at least two other adventurous people with you if you're going to go for it.), the meatballs (totally delicious), and several samples off of the cheese menu (uh, do I have to say more than "cheese menu?") You can definitely count on the bartenders for good recommendations on both food and drink. The one tiny downside? Well, prepare yourself for a sudden lightening of your wallet. I realize that a single glass of wine in a restaurant will always cost more than is proportionate to buying the same bottle yourself, but some of the prices still left me a little winded. And--as excellent as it is--the food also seemed a touch higher priced than is fitting. That said, if you're coming here on a budget (like myself), it can still be done. You just have to be careful about your wine selections. (Even the less expensive fare proved to be delicious, so fear not!) P.S. I worked with Charles on a casual wine tasting to celebrate a close friend of mine. He listened to my vision and chose 4 amazing wines based on my friend's vino preferences. Between sharing his favorite info about each wine/winery and noshing on a couple appetizers, my small group of 6 friends had the BEST night. My friend felt so special and Charles made party planning quick and easy. I've been to Webster's with friends in the past and enjoyed the outdoor seating, on a date with my husband, and a triple date with other friends. Webster's offers a great atmosphere for a cozy date night as well as a pretty comprehensive wine selection that you're unlikely to find anywhere else. The service is also decent. Where it misses the mark is how stingy they can be on portions. When they say a 5 ounce pour, they aren't messing around and you find yourself shelling out $12-$15 for what feels like a tasting portion. This philosophy carries over to the food as well, which to begin with is fairly average, but it's annoying when you have a cheese plate and only 5 small slices of bread, or a small serving of sauce for the overly dry chicken croquettes. As others have mentioned, unless you're all about shelling out dollars to sit in a cozy place with average food, check out some of the other better value spots in the neighborhood. read more

CONS: It's in Logan Square, home of the pseudo-hipster and just generally obnoxious crowd -it takes forever to get anyone's attention, regardless of your sex or theirs, including hostess(es)?, waiters/waitresses, or any bar staff. -the food can be pretty hit or miss, in my experience, generally a big miss PROS: great wine list, both by the bottle and the glass -super cool dark candle-lit atmosphere with a library-type theme going on behind the bar. The decor was spot-on for a hipster wine bar, -when you can get a staff member to stop and talk to you, they are incredibly knowledgeable and can make great recommendations, whether your a free-time sommelier or just a newbie. While the original Webster's has a near and dear place to my heart, this one serves as an acceptable substitute when you don't want to deal with the pretentious d-baggery of Longman, or if you're looking for a cute date night spot. Just don't be in a hurry. Or super hungry :) read more

Four stars for the food! We had the Sardine plate which was our favorite. They were canned which my date was hoping they would be fresh but they were amazing! Served with buttered bread, pickled beets & onions topped off with whole grain mustard...heaven! Our other favorite was the curry mussels. By far the best mussels I've ever had. Served in a soupy yellow curry broth and dark bread to soak it up with. We also had the grilled octopus & navy beans with sausage. Very rustic but the octopus was burnt...bummer. Our waitress steered us to a different bottle of wine which was also a bummer but we still had a grand time and enjoyed the atmosphere. Webster's Wine Bar has relocated to Logan Square (in the former Telegraph space) and it's better than ever! My soon-to-be husband and I had our second date at the old WWB. In hindsight, it would prove to be a seminal occasion (not *that* kind of seminal!). Now that we reside in Logan Square, it feels very fitting that WWB made the journey with us. The space has two rooms; one is a little livelier and the other is more cozy and kind of looks and feels like a library. They're both comfortable and make you want to hang out all night and sip wine. Which is exactly what we did. As expected, wine choices abound. Reds, whites, sparkling, domestic, biodynamic--it's all here. You can choose a half glass, full glass, flight, bottle, whatever floats your boat. I adore sparkling wines in summer and chose a Lambrusco, which sadly, they were out of. I settled for rosé, which was fizzy and drinkable. After I finished my rosé, I decided to switch to a cocktail whose description I found very appealing. The "Lani Goes to London" was a refreshing combination of hibiscus-infused gin, lemon, simple syrup, orange zest, and soda. Although this is first and foremost a wine bar, don't overlook their carefully curated selections of cocktails and beer. Food options here are fantastic too, and the list of choices is quite plentiful. There's a charcuterie plate, a cheese plate, mussels, octopus, and lots of other tasty nibbles. We shared New Brunswick oysters, burrata with heirloom tomatoes, pommes frites, and steak tartare. We enjoyed everything immensely, but I especially loved the burrata, which tasted like summer. We ended our evening with a donut/muffin/pancake/popover hybrid known as an ebelskiver, a Danish pastry. It's spherical and covered in a light dusting of sugar and the filling was fresh raspberry. They're not overly sweet at all, and they're dense but somehow light in texture. Boy, those Vikings sure can whip up some magic. If ebelskivers aren't your jam, they also sell pie from Bang Bang Pie Shop. Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable and eager to share their passion for wine. She is the hostess with the mostess. She was engaging, graceful and empathetic to my fate. I popped in overwhelmed from the punishing heat after an afternoon at the Logan's Square arts Festival. She offered water without hesitation and the time to recover. I regret not ordering at least one glass of wine. Cold water and plenty of it was my only nourishment this afternoon. Webster's Wine Bar is better than ever at its new location in Logan Square. The larger, intimate space is really conducive to a nice date or a larger group- they manage to pull both off. What blew us away on our last visit was not only the service, but the food was outstanding! We had the following: -Duck wings: fall off the bone deliciousness, melt in your mouth like pot roast -Brussels sprouts: OMG these were heavenly!!! GET THEM!!! You won't regret it! -Steak Tartare: yum yum yum! Served with warm bread, homemade pickles and mustard. -Mussels: Fantastic! These were huge and the broth was fantastic. All of the food was some of the best we've had in awhile. Clearly the owners of this, the now closed Bluebird, and now closed Telegraph consolidated operations and now have it down perfectly. We've been here twice now, and the second time was so amazing it warranted a review. We started with the Venison Tartare, which was perfect; Doug and I refer to it as "Midwestern Sushi" because it's that fresh and delicious. We also got the pommes frites, which I'm not sure within what kind of magic they're deep-fried, but they're the best we've had. For vegetables, we got the ratatouille and the Waldorf salad, which were subtle and refreshing, respectively. The greens in the salad were both fresh and diverse. The meat dishes were truly the crowning glory of the night. The hanger steak was the most tender, flavorful, and juicy beef we've ever had, and the cheeseburger melted in our mouths. Other reasons to dine here, other than the food, involve the stellar service, the extensive wine list, the calm atmosphere, and the relatively inexpensive price tag. I was surprised at how great this place is! My boyfriend and I went for Monday night dinner and drinks. It wasn't too crowded, but wasn't empty either. There seemed to be a lot of couples there, which makes sense, since it's a wine bar and the lights were dimmed. They have a huge selection of various wines and champagne, and with daily wine specials, it's not much for a bottle. We got a bottle of the Opal Rose, which was $44...not bad at all, and very delicious! We got a cheese and charcuterie board (best country pate!), octo frites (octopus was perfectly cooked), and caesar salad (probably the best caesar salad I've ever eaten). The Webster's Wine Bar is a good place to and has a great atmosphere. I rated 3 because the food in my opinion is sub par. I had the duck wings, scallops, and polenta cake. It was not inedible by any means but it was not "wow.. this is delicious!" Overpriced for what it is in my opinion. Spent $50 dollars and then went and got tacos after my meal because I was still hungry since my brother and I shared the dishes. This is my second time going there now and the previous experience was the same. Food is not bad... it's just kinda meh. Which would be fine if it was not way overpriced. One of my favorite spots and one of the best kept secrets in Chicago in my opinion. The dimly lit and rustic atmosphere is perfect for a date or hangout and the wine list is incredible and full interesting wines by the glass whether you want something delicious, adventurous or new. The beer list is very underrated as they curate a pretty respectable list of rare beers too. Lastly--the food isn't to be underestimated. It's simple but delicious whether you get a plate of cheese, the meatballs or the minimal but savory steak. All in all I can never get tired of coming here. read more

I love wine. And when I saw that this wine bar opened up close to me, I was super excited to check it out. Then I saw a Groupon for wine and a chef's board for two people and knew I had to finally visit. Webster's has a great atmosphere that is laid back but still classy. Their drink menu is extensive, which made it hard to decide on what to get, but the waitress was knowledgable and gave me and my boyfriend a great recommendation. The chef's board was also amazing! Nothing goes better with wine than cheese, and the cheese's we sampled were divine (we went with Brie, Gouda, and Blue cheese). Along with the cheese we got to have three meats; we had Smoking Goose Coppa, Tete de Cochon (pig), and Duck. With the cheese and meat we got some spreads like spicy mustard and several jams. On the hunt of a Tuesday evening cocktail we came across Websters Wine Bar. The wine list is veryyy extensive, a lot to choose from! I love a good glass of wine but don't really know much about wine so the bartender was happy to suggest some glasses I would enjoy. The wine is a bit on the higher end so expect higher end pricing. I enjoyed a $12 glass of wine which one of the cheaper options on the menu. My husband is a big beer drinker so he was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a lot of beer offerings including some from Burnt City Brewing. The bartender offered us a bunch of wine tastings and even some beer tastings. I recommend trying one of the Orange wines - yes ORANGE WINE! First time trying it and was pleasantly surprised. Overall great neighborhood spot for a cocktail or date night spot! We will be returning. read more

My friends and I came to Webster's for my birthday in January. Tom, the owner, was great with helping me organize a wine tasting/meal for all of us. The table we were at was more secluded from the main bar and the service was great! The wine recommended was AMAZING! I simply told them the regions of wine I wanted to try and they recommended 3 amazing wines for us. The food we ordered was great and came out very quickly. My husband took me here in November while we waited or our table at Longman and Eagle to be ready. I was initially shocked and sad when I learned that Webster Wine Bar (ON Webster) had closed/moved. It was such a warm, cozy space that I couldn't imagine that they could or would properly recreate that. I was wrong. It happens from time to time. The new location is just great. I thought it seemed bigger than the old location, but my hubby says they are the same size. So I dunno. What I DO know is they knocked the ball out of the park as far as recreating that cozy, warm space. The building is split into two sides. On one side (the side you enter through), there are some couches setup by the window. There is a large bar in that main room and seating throughout. Then you go around to the order side of the building to a room that I just LOVED. It had the built in bookshelves up the wall, candles everywhere, and a really cozy feel. We snagged a victorian style couch in the corner and enjoyed a glass of wine. I love the ambiance of this place. I have to say I think this is actually a better location for this little gem as before it was sort of lost in the corner, across from a movie theater. I can't wait to return! read more

The ambiance is relaxing and warm. The prices are pretty high. But I'm a bit biased by my experiences in southern Europe where I like to go to "wine bars" that are basically just bars that serve regional wine and the prices are in the 3-5 euro range. In college I was given a lesson in smelling, swirling and sipping wine by another backpacker named Fabrice, completely without irony. Wine is a part of everyday life and everyone drinks it, no pretense at all. We went with a groupon that included two glasses of wine and a charcuterie plate. The plate was probably the most expensive (without the groupon) but probably the largest charcuterie plate I'd ever seen on this or the other side of the Atlantic. Though the groupon was for two people the charcuterie plate could have easily fed four. It was the first time I'd ever taken home charcuterie in a doggie bag. The items, especially the pate, were rich and delicious. The wine list is substantial and interesting, but they gave us half-pours, a detail that we must have overlooked in the fine print on the Groupon. Our server was cheerful, very informed and knowledgeable about the wines, and was able to make some intelligent recommendations. read more
