Last night my boyfriend and I came here for dinner. This was my first time here, my boyfriend had been here before. I used to work with one of the owners (Luke) at Starbucks. Walking into the host was friendly and sat us at our table. When we got there people were there for happy hours (4 p.m.- 6 p.m.). We started with drinks. I had the Sparkling Rose which was fruity and smooth. My boyfriend had Hive Mind (vodka, honey, lavender, rhubarb, and lemon) which my boyfriend loved. Mitch was our server. He was friendly and nice and our wait time was perfect. We ordered 3 small plates: Cheese Plate, Grilled Shrimp, and Tuna Tartare. They were all good. Grilled Shrimp and Tuna Tartare had enough spice for my boyfriend and me. The cheese plate was yummy too. 3 different types of cheese, with honey, jam, candied beets, and peppers. And for dessert we had Crème Brûlée made with soy milk custard, chocolate, black sesame, and strawberry. It was different in a good way. The restaurant has paintings hanging up, which remind me of someone living/library. Our table was very cozy. A nice and cool restaurant in Andersonville, for sure I will come back for happy hour. read more

I had better hopes for this place, but this is how our experience went: Got there and were the first ones ( so we actually had to wait about 7 min before the opened the doors which was fine and we sat at their patio waiting for it ) They opened, we come inside and the first impression is that this is a cute little place, so it was off to a good start. After we sit down, waitress comes with paper menus and one of them is all wrinkled ( no attention to details here) but ok not a biggie. She then gives us a smaller menu with the "Special of the day" which was Branzino BUT she said to us that they only have one so if we want it we should tell her right away ( so two things here; one, we are the only ones in the place but two, how is this a special and you only have 1????) so this isn't a special, this is a leftover ... obviously that's not the route we were to take. Ok so we take a look the menu, ordered some drinks that were good and when she gets back we ordered the tuna tartare, but she says: we are sold out ( at this point there's only one more couple in the place- and remember we were the first ones ... what do you mean you sold out, you mean you didn't even buy/prep this dish for the day ... so we decided no appetizers then and went straight to the main course. So I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and the sink is clogged ( I have phobia to clogged sinks, they are disgusting) but whatever. Food came after 40 minutes ( do I have to remind you we were the first ones and only one more table was filled at that point ?) This spot was super cute! We stopped in for happy hour which featured some fairly good deals on a handful of wines, cocktails, and snacks. There's a small outdoor patio and a good-sized bar and dining room. We ordered the deviled eggs which were a special treat given that they are beet-pickled. So yummy and unique and the presentation was gorgeous. The charcuterie boards here looked incredible but since we were only stopping in for a quick bite, we didn't order one (although it was tempting). Service was friendly and attentive. Absolutely love this restaurant. The new owners (Mitch & Luke) are incredible and have taken this Andersonville gem to the next level since recently taking over. They are very community driven and care about being a part of Andersonville - be sure to try the watermelon margs during Midsommarfest. The warm welcome from staff is always appreciated. The ambiance is great - not too loud where you can't hear the person across from you. What sets this restaurant apart from others - besides everything mentioned so far, is the food. Some of my favorites include the Tuna Tartare - just the right amount of heat and other flavors to balance it out, along with the gnocchi that is currently on the menu (see picture attached here). Other items include the halibut with orzo and the burger. Their happy hour deals and burger night are hard to beat! I highly recommend stopping in here and getting the full experience - they also have a great patio in the warmer weather to enjoy. read more

Vincent's is usually closed on Sundays; however, with the festival and Father's Day, they opened and had entertainment to accompany a fantastic brunch. Any breakfast item or lunch item presented is just a notch or two above standard fare. The prices were well within line considering the live entertainment. Our server was spot on with getting our drinks and food orders, and they were served in a timely fashion. Of note, the pancakes were enormous. I just had bacon and toast, which sounded simple, but the bacon was perfect, and the toast was homemade bread! For a special treat, Vincent offered the famous Liza from Chicago. The performer is remarkably like Liza, making you think it's a time warp. She played for the whole audience, both inside and outside, which I found very charming. Liza's interaction with the crowd made sure no one was left out. This performer is quick-witted with her quips. I hope that Vincent's will have her back to perform; the crowd loved her. read more

We came here for happy hour and had a great time. The vibe inside is so cute and I love that its half open to the outdoors when the weather is so great. My cold brew martini was perfect!! I thought the pricing was good for happy hour as well, $10. Other cocktails were listed $7-9 as well which is great. We ordered the charcuterie happy hour board to share and it was good. It was really bad, not sure how it has such a high Yelp rating. We sat on the patio where the staff would let pan handlers ask for money throughout the meal service on the patio itself. The panhandler touched and fingered my silverware which was disgusting. When we declined giving him money he gave us a finger gesture meaning "f you". The staff literally stood and watched this happen at every table and did nothing to stop or ask them to leave. We ordered steak tartare, escargot, and I got the gnocchi. The steak tartare looked disgusting on the plate and it tasted like they cut in lots of root vegetables to reduce the amount of meat. The escargot came with minimal garlic oil so the taste of snail was forefront. The gnocchi was absolutely awful- somehow they managed to burn the outside while leaving the inside doughy and chewy. It was disgusting. Vincent is a hard pass and would not advise dining here. It's relatively expensive, they don't seem to know how to cook, and the staff ignores major issues impacting meal service. read more

I have lived in the area for over 5 years and had been meaning to try Vincent for much of that time. Last Friday night was finally the night. I had been wanting a really good French 75 for a couple of weeks, and Vincent delivered. My cocktail was excellent! Well balanced, beautifully presented, and reasonably priced. My husband had one of their bourbon cocktails that was on the happy hour menu and he enjoyed it immensely. The atmosphere is that of an upscale bar/restaurant without feeling snooty. The room was filled with parties that seemed to be enjoying after work drinks, or folks on a date. It was really positive and fun. Our service was excellent. We stayed well past when our drinks were finished and never felt rushed out the door. To my embarrassment - I was so tipsy I forgot to tip! When I realized my error I went back the next day to correct it, and they were so nice and understanding. Will definitely be back to try the main courses! There is NO WAY this restaurant has 4 stars!! What in the world is going on in that kitchen???? I have been wanting to check Vincent out for a few years, finally made it on a Saturday. Ordered a few drinks and 1 appetizer off the happy hour menu. The drinks were great the bartender crafted a perfect Old Fashioned...That I would go back for. The appetizer patatas braves...Yuck!!! Basically this restaurant relies heavily on sauces to flavor the food. The baked fingering potatoes were served on a thick layer of aioli sauce (these are not patatas bravas).We then ordered the fried green tomatoes. My husband's comment was "I never knew something fried could taste so cold." I had never had cold fried green tomatoes served on a thick bed of tartar sauce, very strange. At this point we realized huge regrets for choosing to dine here, but we had already put a burger order in so we decided to continue on this journey of yuck. Luckily the burger was decent a little overly salty but not terrible. All this is to say I feel robbed. I want my money back. $125 this food is not worth. One and done for me. Vincent delivers a terrific happy hour from 5-6pm Weds to Fri with delicious drinks and bites in Andersonville! My fiancé and I are always looking for go-to happy hours on the north side of Chicago and Vincent didn't disappoint. We were able to easily secure a reservation online for a Wednesday at 5:00pm but don't hesitate to be a walk-in - when we arrived, we were the first guests of the evening since the restaurant opens at 5pm. We ordered a couple drinks - the Bubbles and Flowers and an Old Fashioned - and I have to say they were both excellent. Not to mention, the value of happy hour at Vincent is great as the cocktails are roughly 40% off. We also loved that happy hour offered a number of their appetizers at a discount and we were able to order the happy hour board and truffle frites at a discount - all great as well. We also couldn't resist ordering a burger from the regular dinner menu to share. Don't come to Vincent and not order the burger - it was simply delicious and we both left very happy and full. Overall, we couldn't beat the taste and value of the happy hour and the incredibly friendly service and low lighting and wooden tables just made it a big win for us! P.S. It's surprising to say the least as Vincent is obviously advertised as a restaurant but it was really, really bad. In a neighborhood with so many options, you can't afford to be this off. I have been here a bunch and whatever they are doing right now is working. Honestly the best "Good Cocktails" in the neighborhood, and the food is pricey but generally worth it. I am so excited to have discovered this Andersonville gem for Sunday brunch! Admittedly, I was en route to a very nearby favorite brunch hangout when I was distracted by a lovely, orange adorned drag queen who was quite effectively doing her job of promoting Vincent's and Theo's by passing out a delicious assortment of cookies on the corner of Clark and Balmoral. The explosion of lemony heaven in my mouth pulled me off the beaten path of North Clark to the less hectic, serene environs of the French bistro, Vincent's on Balmoral, which has already become one of my new favorites! I was impressed by their many selections that accommodated my pescatarian dietary restrictions and to top it off, they serve alcohol, so I started things off with a Bloody Mary that didn't disappoint. SERVICE!! Finally, there's a place that seems to have trained wait staff to effectively communicate with guests and check back after the food has been delivered. I won't get ahead of myself! I love smoked salmon, and my server suggested the smoked salmon Benedict. It was delicious! I was able to enjoy my meal while sitting in the open window at a table for one on a beautiful spring day! The only thing that could have been better is if I were actually in Paris, and since I was recently in Paris, all I could do was pretend. Once I was done, t Vincent's, I had to have a cookie, so I found the drag queen in the orange dress to let her know that I enjoyed my meal. I have to have a whole cookie, so I purchased a few cookies from Theo's, which is another place you've got to try! You know the scene from the 2005 version of Pride and Prejuidice where Darcy professes his love to Elizabeth: "you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love--I love--I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on."? This is how I feel about the Half Chicken Dinner from Vincent. It was phenomenal- easily one of the best things I have eaten this year. We did all the courses and I brought home half of the chicken to have for dinner tonight and it is just as good. The ambiance/atmosphere is nice- dark and candle light with Van Gogh paintings on the wall. They had house cocktails- but I settled for a beer and a gin and tonic (heads up- they also had that good pebble ice- which if I had known would have just gone GNTs all night). elegant but not pretentious... we didn't know what to expect at vincent as we were looking to feed our bellies after watching a comedy show and imbibing at the riv. the truffle fries caught my eye right away -- a very generous serving but a tad salty. the chopped salad was perfection - evenly dressed, all veggies fresh and crips and not drowning in dressing. my husband was very happy with the mussels -- again another generous portion. the dessert wasn't groundbreaking - apple cake with gelato. as we left, they were drawing the curtains, moving tables and changing the lighting so wish we could stay for what looked like evening entertainment. read more

Our food was perfect-simple brunch/breakfast food, and the wine we chose was delicious. I'm so sad to give Vincent 3 stars! When they hit, they HIT. But when they miss... The first time we went to Vincent, it was summer and we sat on the patio. We ended up with just apps and drinks, and one of the apps was a summer squash dish that was amazing. The other apps were unremarkable. However, that squash dish was so good that we decided to come back for dinner. Our dinner at Vincent a couple weeks later was SO fun. We sat at the bar, had a repeat of that summer squash dish (yay!) and had a few other very tasty mains, including their incredible burger. Cocktails were great too. We'd been hunting for a new fav burger and date night spot since moving to this neighborhood (Gretel was our former spot) and lo - we'd found it in Vincent! Sadly, it was not to last. The next couple of times we went, the food was just not as good (except for the burger - always a standout). We found that they rotate their dishes often, which is not a bad thing generally but the new items are hit or miss. Recently, 3 of us went for dinner and they'd just started serving a new menu that was very French-leaning, and we were disappointed with every single dish. Underseasoned and just.. boring? It's also a little strange when you come to know a restaurant as being one style (in Vincent's case, usually there were splashes of European/Mediterranean inspired dishes but mostly it felt New American) and then you go in one day and the entire menu is French. It gives the impression that they don't know quite what they are or what they're best at. It also feels like they don't stick with new dishes long enough to perfect them. Point is, it's frustrating when you don't know what restaurant you're going to get when you walk in. I wish Vincent would pick 70% of the menu to keep permanently (and perfect), and then use the other 30% to rotate dishes seasonally or try new things. We'll keep going probably, but not as a first choice and not as a weekly or biweekly date spot. read more

It's quite pricy, though the food is delicious! It's a romantic, trendy atmosphere with a grand piano in the corner. The place is smaller than I expected with a nice bar, 4-6 high tops, a few booths and 3-4 small tables. Thus, seating is limited. We were fortunate to get in without a reservation, however I highly recommend making a reservation and plan to in the future. We observed this place to be more of a cocktail bar, at least the night we were there. Looking around we only saw on other table that had ordered food. I was not particularly fond of the cocktails and believe the prices are high for the quality of the drink. We chose the chili shrimp to start with for our appetizer. My friend is not a shrimp fan and for the first time I had to share with him! The title is slightly deceiving because it does not taste like chili. The sauce, however it's made, is better than words I have to describe it. $14.99 and well worth the price! Though I certainly would be happier with a bigger portion. Neither my friend nor I had ever heard of Barramundi and we actually though it was going to be a sort of steak given the "filet" description. In case, like us, you've never heard of this dish, it is a white fish. Most importantly, the Barramundi is outstanding! Again, the sauce was impeccable and I wish I had the recipe. It's definitely a unique dish that's not often served. Vincent's is perfection. Our server was kind but not too knowledgeable about the menu. She couldn't really answer our questions but was able to describe the dishes. Perhaps because of the cocktail bar vibe, though I'd definitely recommend some more training about the food. Overall, we both thoroughly enjoyed the place and food. For us, the prices make it more of a special evening type of restaurant. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique menu and romantic vibe. read more
