My only complaints with this Wegmans is the crowd. Employees are very helpful and even offer suggestions if they see you browsing in their area. They have a very extensive fresh prepared food section and a decent cheese selection. The thing that always makes me spend more is they have people giving out samples and I end up tossing something extra in my cart! I have to say that the fish and meat counters are the highlight of the area and have NEVER let me down! I'm going to need to come here more often... read more

My husband's wedding ring flew off his hand and into the grill of the meat case and you'd have thought the employees and manager had been waiting all day just for an opportunity to have to take all that meat out of the case, stack it onto a cart, dismantle the case, find the ring and wash it off for us. This is the most fabulous grocery store in our area. My heart actually beats faster every time I walk in .. as other reviewers have stated, it's like a combination of whole foods, trader joe's, harris teeter and a regular old safeway all rolled up into one store! There's someting for everyone here. The only problem is that I need to limit my visits to once a month or so b/c I spend way too much $$ when I go there. This place is my personal heaven! It's kind of like a cross between Balducci's, Whole Foods, and your regular neighborhood grocery store. You can buy everything from toothpaste to gourmet meats/cheeses/wine. It takes me an hour and a half to get through the store almost every time I go because there is so much good stuff to see and check out! They have over 600 different types of cheese! If you like to cook...this is definitely the place to go...they have a gorgeous display of meat and fish and wonderful prepared foods. My husband and I often go there for dinner (there is a separate seating area and they have a sushi bar!) While I virtually never get out of there for less than $150...it is definitely worth it to go for quality food and reasonable prices. :) read more

I picked out some groceries and an individual beer from the individual beer aisle. They would not honor the price listed on the individual beer aisle. At checkout, they said that it was not an individual beer, but a select a pack. I cant sell it to you as a single beer. Fine, I say, charge me the full six pack select a beer price. Wegmans is a top of the line grocery store. About the only food store that tops this is the Whole Foods in Twin Oaks and that's not a grocery store -- its more of a food amusement park. But this is about Wegmans. Wegmans is kind of like two grocery stores in one. Its got the prepared foods section and you can get pizza, subs, chicken wings, hamburgers, salads, chicken, an asian buffet (mostly chinese and indian), sushi, and much more. I find the prepared foods rather pricey. Oh there's a vegetarian bar too. With pretty decent stuff in it if you go early in the day. It can get kind of gnarly later on. Also pricey -- like 8 bucks a pound and vegetables weigh a lot. Then there's the regular grocery store part. I've done some price checking and if you buy the Wegman's brand, the prices cannot be beat (except by maybe Walmart and I try not to shop there). Their markup on national brands can be rather high but its less than Giant, Safeway and Harris Teeter. Their produce, meat and fish sections are amazing as is their bakery. The bread from the bakery doesn't go stale in one day and the marathon bread is incredible. The people at the fish counter are knowledgeable and friendly and they will give you a big bag of ice to get your fish home without spoiling in the summer. I don't normally get stuff from the butcher counter but it looks lovely. The guy who said their soups were terrible... he's mostly right. I wouldn't call them terrible but they aren't great either. Once they did a mushroom soup that was really good. Sometimes they do a good matzoh ball soup over in the kosher section but they don't always have that available. But hey -- they have a kosher section. How often do you find that south of Philly? They do a kids movie night but I don't know which nights but it seems pretty family friendly to me. Once you are out of the prepared foods section -- look up! They put pretty cool displays up on top of the aisles and over by the beer and dairy (it works) there's a model train with a whistle and everything running on a track. Anyway there's one really really bad thing about Wegmans. The crowds and the traffic. Ok that's two things but they go hand in hand. The place crowded beyond belief and with crowds in suburbia comes traffic. Go there during off hours. But remember if you go during off hours the food bars won't be the freshest if they are open at all and the counters (like bakery, deli, fish) might not be staffed. That said, I would rather drive 30 minutes out of my way to go to Wegmans than to shop locally at the Harris Teeter or Giant or Safeway. They are cleaner, offer a better selection, and are less expensive than the three named above. Oh and the staff is way friendly and nice. read more

This is like the biggest damn grocery store I have ever seen outside of Costco. They have everything including this little cafe area that I got dinner at tonight while me and my boyfriend were waiting for Carmax to process the paperwork to sell his car. The food was pretty good, (they had paneer!) but the sheer size of this place was a little overwhelming, I feel like it would take me a day and a half to finish my regular grocery shopping here. read more

Unlike several grocery stores across the country, Wegmans is not dedicating an hour for senior citizens to shop irrespective of the fact that Ashburn, VA has a large senior population. When I called customer service at the Ashburn store to inquire, I was told they were not interested in servicing the senior population. The very polite young woman with whom I spoke obtained this information (according to her) from the store manager. In order to obtain necessary supplies for my home and especially for my husband who is in treatment for lung cancer, I arrived at 7 today. Unfortunately, I could not sprint as fast as those younger folks to pick up the very few packages of TP and paper towels on the shelves. At least, I was able to avail myself of more fully stocked food shelves. I'm getting tired of reading about how vulnerable a population seniors are and then some businesses like Wegmans refuse to even consider some accommodation. I'm fully capable of at least trying to sprint with those younger than I and I don't like to consider myself any more vulnerable than anyone else in these trying times, but many seniors are not so capable. Maybe Wegmans would consider re-evaluating their current policy. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It is probably the BEST grocery store I've ever been to. From their fresh breads to their mouth watering pasteries to their Mediterranean bar - there is really no end to the amazingness that is this place! I also really like their lunch/prepared foods that the offer here. I suggest their crabcake sandwich. It was ridiculously delicious and fresh. The people that work here are extremely nice and helpful. The checkout lines are never long seeing as there are about 20 of them. It's a great place for all your grocery needs and then some more. read more

Just for the subs alone, I gotta give the place 5 stars. A 7 inch sub will set you back 5 bucks and some change. A 14 inch will set you back a little less than 9. Danny's Favorite and the Wegmans Assorted are the way to go. The prepared Asian foods are ok but expensive. Stick with the subs. It was my 1st time in any Wegman's. Ever. I was in there with non-social-media-impatient-Saint-G. Therefore, I did not have time to explore the store in a relaxed manner. And while all of the prepared foods, produce, etc looked wonderfully fresh, reasonably priced, and abundant, I did find the store layout odd. With the help of Wegman's employees, I was able to find the few items I came in there for. Along the way, I noticed a great selection of weekday wines! Best grocery store ever I read the reviews before I moved here 3 mths ago and had to see for myself. .Parking is tight but thats my only complaint all good grocery stores have traffic.Getting on Pacific / Waxpool from Wegmans is tight most times of the day and a challenge on weekends and Holidays. This is the best grocery store on the planet! Usually I'm going to several stores to get all the ingredients I need for an international recipe but not with Wegs...they have everything! I even bought sunglasses for $11.99 last night. For the posters that say their stuff is more expensive than other grocery stores - I wonder where they're shopping. I buy name brand everything and its all cheaper than Giant or HT. This is definitely the place to go to for prepared foods, its fresh and correctly spiced. read more

If you've never been to Wegman's, get up and go now. Step up to the deli counter and order a 7" Danny's Favorite on honey-wheat with provolone, all the veggies, mayo, oil and vinegar. Wegmans is an unbeatable blend of high quality items and competitive supermarket prices. Their meat, their seafood, their prepared food, their bread, their pastries, their deli, their produce -- it just beats any supermarket chain I've shopped at in the area. That includes Whole Foods. I don't really know how this chain manages to be so much better than other chains like Giant, or Safeway, or Food Lion, or Harris Teeter, while being price competitive or better, but they're doing something very right. A few other highlights -- if you like wine, they have an amazing wine selection at tremendous prices. It's pretty easy to go in and get a case of 90+ rated wines averaging around ten bucks a bottle, and you will have a plethora or choices for 85+ rated wines for $6 or 7. Their beer selection is nothing to sneeze at either. They have an excellent cheese selection, and like the wine you can find some amazing cheese for half of what you'd pay at, say, Balducci's. Their meat counter often has Prime beef for very good prices, and if you don't feel like waiting in line their selection of cryovaced steaks, roasts, chicken, chops, etc in the cooler are great -- they'll stay fresh longer -- much longer -- than a traditional supermarket styrofoam and plastic wrapped piece of meat will, and there's less packaging. They have very strong selections for organic food -- and it's not just 'industrial organic', they'll have hard to find stuff too -- and their selection of international foods are great. (BTW, that includes sugar Coke from Mexico. If you used to love Coke, grab a couple, you'll be like 'oh yeah this is what Coke used to taste like'.) Their hot food section is good, occasionally better than that. Their in-store sushi is surprisingly good. They have a whole dining area up on the second floor that overlooks the store, it's pretty cool. Is there a drawback? Unfortunately, yes -- Wegmans can get packed, and I swear there's something about putting a shopping cart in peoples hands that makes them slow, stupid and indecisive. If you go the day before Super Bowl Sunday, you're gonna have a bad time. Still, there is no one anywhere I would not recommend this store too. Very shortly one will be opening nearer to me and I am very much looking forward to that -- but as it stands I am happy to cross the bridge to get there, and that probably says as much as anything about the quality of the place. My wife and I are loyal customers and we have experienced Wegman's superior customer service over the past years. Unfortunately, my wife's most recent experience at the sandwich stand (near the bakery) was quite disappointing and may evidence that Wegman's customer service has declined. My wife had planned to pick up a sandwich for me and because of the quality food Wegman's sub/sandwich stand was her first choice. The young male salesperson behind the counter immediately started shouting at my wife and did not give her a chance to review the condiments and ingredients. When she asked him to please slowdown and to show her the available bread sizes, he told her the sizes in inches. My wife is a visual person and she requested to see the bread to understand the size of the bread more easily. While my wife was the only person in line (!!!), the young male salesperson became more pushy and pressured her to make her choice and to move forward. My wife later told me that she was so disappointed that she asked for the manager. The manager failed miserably to engage with my wife politely and to build a customer relationship. When my wife stated that the salesperson yelled at her, he (the salesperson) smiled and said 'that this is how I talk'. The manager responded 'what do you want me to do'? My wife said "I don't know" and left the store. My wife was devastated because the manager did not apologize for the young man's attitude and because he was annoyed that my wife complained. Personally, I would have left the sandwich on the counter (I would have not purchased the sandwich). Is this Wegman's way to show how the chain values their customers? Do we have to expect substandard customer experience because of the new Millennial sales force who obviously does not care about customer relationship management (CRM) and because of managers who fail to meet (but not exceed) expectations? Very sad.... Update on June 11, 2016. Wegman's has not responded to this review. It is sad that a business that claims to be caring about customers does not respond to customers' critiquing the service. read more

I see what the hype is about but I won't be going back. The store is the equivalent to a street market in India. There is entirely too much going on for you to truly have a good shopping experience. Looks like they had a great wine selection but having to trample over so people to see, it just wasn't worth it. The layout of the entire store isn't practical either. If the layout was different, that may help with getting the crowd moving and on their way. read more

I have read some of the posts on the board and I agree with all the positive comments. One guy did mention the overweight soccer Mom's which gave me a chuckle, always in a hurry and ready to ram you, until they stop their over sized child car buggies in the aisle so you can't get by. Yes I just think that must be a suburban sprawl mentality. Now enough with that negativity, Wegman's is the only positive thing about living in the traffic congested burbia we call Ashburn and Sterling. Their chain as a whole rated number 1 in Washington Checkbook magazine. Prices / Quality you can not come close to Wegmans anyone that tells you otherwise, is probably a bulk food section junkie and can't buy enough low grade meat on sale at Bloom. As far as the prepared foods go, I say way to go Wegmans as a food service employee I know what a monumental task it is to run an active kitchen promoting so many selections at a good to excellent level and keep people coming back. Some one said the soups are to salty, the soups I have tried are all good to very good, loved the turkey chili and the red bean chili. The fact you offer meats that range from all ends of the quality spectrum is incredible. Your store brands are as good and sometimes better than the national brands, you make your own breads and desserts. And sell local produce to boot. The wine store is better than any other grocery store in the area and prices are pretty competitive with Costco, and Total Wine. I am a Wegmans junkie love to eat there and grill my organic steaks I buy there to perfection. Thanks for the awesome basting oil, and your Italian cold cuts deli. Kudos to Wegmans for being voted one of the best stores to work. It shows with the employees who actually seem engaged with what is going on. Never go public please!!!! read more

Bought a good amount of fresh bread, vegetables, and other items for making breakfast and dinner. Found the selection to be good, but prices definitely better at either a Farmer's Market or Trader Joes. The vegetables and fruit did not keep very long, even when using refrigeration at the hotel. Normally things last at least 2 weeks... in my case, everything was rotting in 4 days. Not impressed. read more

A rare high five from me! A amalgamation of Trader Joe's and Whole Foods: I envy the denizens of VA for daily access to this great among grocery stores. Parking isn't normally an obstacle in NoVa, but the Wegman's parking lots are still proportionally huge and they're usually fairly full. The closest we have in WA is Central Market and they don't approach Wegman's. The marketing isn't quite as organic as collective markets like Sprouts, PCC or Sunflower, a little more commercial hence the comparisons I draw above, but all that blurs into the background when you survey both the immense selection and the high quality you wouldn't expect when faced with variety like theirs. From household items to produce, they offer a large selection within any given section. One of my favorite items is the cream cheese! I didn't think much of the bagels compared to NYC ones, but I ferried a container of the plain and the scallion spreads back to Seattle in a Packit I bought just for them, it was that good. I also *love* the broccoli chicken and the sautéed broccoli from the Asian hot deli. I took a big container of that with me on the plane with some jasmine rice they keep in giant cookers. The lo mein, fried rice and dumplings didn't impress me. The grilled chicken breast is incredibly greasy, too, but I long to go back to try some of the Kosher items (where can I get good broth while I'm there for Matzo balls?), the Italian choices and the soups! Especially since there's plenty of tempting choices in the bakery to dip in them. Get there around lunch time to catch things fresh because they start cleaning up before 8PM and vegetables start looking... a uniform brown color by then anyway. read more

Wegmans is a grocery store that stands out from the others. It has vast selection of all different types of foods plus very nice selection of wine/beers to chose from. Huge selection of good quality produce which isn't too much more expensive then their competitors. Their Bakery/Butcher section always have good tasty selections that you don't usually find in other grocery stores. Like the Muffins and bagels are extremely good....plus the loaves of bread they make are excellent too. The place is always pack it seems like but do move their lines fairly quickly so not really waiting in long lines unless you go at the peak of the peak. read more

I am happy to report that my feelings towards the prices etc have drastically changed, they have evolved into a VERY competitive grocery store for everyday grocery items not just specialty items. The $6 -$10 meal was so awesome. They are affordable. The steak that I ordered was so yummy and it tasted almost as good as my $150 plate steak dinner. Their ambiance upstairs is clean. The store is always clean, and the staff is always professional. The prices are good, but the beer selection is lacking in comparison to their location in Lake Manassas. my biggest issue is there never seems to be enough registers open. If you are just stopping to pick up a few items, go to Harris Teeter or Giant. You may not get the selection at those places, but at least you are not spending an hour waiting to check out. If this is your main run for groceries, there is no place better! read more

This is the best grocery store ever! It's always an adventure going there. You go into pick up a few things and start wandering around. So, you pick up a little this and a little that. Before you know it, you've spent $80. Their breads are wonderful. Their cheese selection is amazing! They have a few different kinds of hummus at their Mediterranean bar. The garlic hummus is my favorite! People complain because it's crowded. Of course it is. Once you go there, you'll understand why. But, I've never had to wait long in line like at other grocery stores in the area. The prices for regular groceries is on par with other local stores. The fruits and vegetables are always great. Where you spend your money is on the prepared foods or all of the goodies all over the store that you didn't plan on buying. read more

3.5 STARS (compared to the fairfax wegmans) 4 STARS (as an overall grocery store) Pros: -staff is nice and took time to answer questions -they have a very nice display of sushi and summer rolls (much more extensive than that of fairfax and they use more tilapia in their sushi) Cons: -not as organized and well planned as the one in fairfax. everything is located in really weird places. -the mouthwashes and other miscellaneous items that are placed up front near the cash register made this particular wegmans felt more like a department store (i'm guessing this is the store's attempt to upsell certain products). -basement wine cellar is missing!!! (as opposed to fairfax) -the main floor doesn't have an eating area (they only have an upstairs one) -fairfax allows sampling at their hot food bar but i don't think this particular wegmans does (it said no sampling but i see tiny plastic sample cups so i'm not sure) -i usually go here for the quick dining experience and today i ordered the white cheese and garlic pizza which was really gross. 3 napkins after and i still didn't sufficiently soak out all the oil from that one slice of pizza. -not as many dining options (in term of food choices) compared to fairfax (but still alot overall) read more

What can I say. I have loved it from day one. I lived in the Sterling area when this store opened and I was there on day one. It was like a rock concert. Police were directing traffic, there was no where to park. It was amazing. Wegmans is a breath of fresh air in what had been a grocery wasteland. Years later, they still cover all the bases: good handmade prepared foods, unusual and specialised foods and ingredients, as well as the standard, major brand groceries you'd find anywhere else. I think, on balance, it's probably a bit more expensive than shopping at one or more other chains in the area. But the combination of high quality stuff with good-enough prices on regular things is a real enticement for me. read more

This review is mostly for the Wegmans Bakery at this location. We ordered a half sheet strawberry shortcake for my daughter's 3rd birthday (her request). Ordering and picking up went smoothly (with the exception of my husband going to the wrong Wegmans...). The cake was absolutely gorgeous, and all of my guests said it was the best cake (CAKE!) they've ever had! It was relatively reasonably priced and absolutely gorgeous (see uploaded photo). They were also able to write a message on the top using a plastic sheet over the strawberries. The half sheet perfectly served my 20ish, mostly adult guests, with a few pieces leftover. We also ordered four large cheese pizzas, which were delicious and just the right amount for our party. I love Wegmans for the prepared foods - the bakery, ready to heat and eat meals like stuffed salmon w/lobster or crab meat, pans of lobster mac or lasagna, we even had a shrimp boil with King crab legs, shrimp, corn and potatoes for $25 (sort of served two)! I will definitely miss the heat at home prepped foods when I move to the west coast soon. read more

This Wegmans is my number one grocery store. My wife and I shop here often and tend to drive the extra couple of miles to avoid Harris Teeter. The food is always fresh at Wegmans and their prepared foods are outstanding. I really enjoy their sub sandwiches, coleslaw and their seafood is very good! I recently discovered their butchered meats and I have to say, their steaks are on par with some of the fine dining restaurants in our area. Can be pricey if you aren't paying attention to what you are buying. read more
