The noodles were more like Chinese noodles than Japanese ramen noodles. The gyoza was average but the karaage was pretty good. Stopped in here on a Tuesday evening. The shop is cute at first glance and the service was quick. What they do well, they do really well; however, the bad outweighed the good for me here. Pros: The broth of the Yamitsuki ramen was phenomenal. The noodles were so plentiful in both dishes. You could truly have noodle in every bite and not end up with a bowl of broth at the bottom. Cons: Curry ramen broth was pretty weak. The pork chashu in both dishes was so thick and chewy that it was a little tough to eat. Each slice could have been cut to half the thinness. The mushrooms and bamboo shoots tasted like they had been dehydrated or come out of a can--they were rubbery and chewy. The soft boiled egg was hard boiled. I would say the food itself was probably three stars (noodles and broth go a long way for ramen), but I'm going down to two stars because the wooden decor/beams next to us were absolutely filthy. Ambiance - I went there around 5pm on a workday so there were barely no customers. Service - the server was nice and patient as it did take me some time to decide what to eat. Wei Ramen is really good food. The portion sizes are pretty big, so you'll probably have leftovers. I also highly recommend the croquets as an appetizer. The service here is pretty good. You will notice that WeiRamen also share the space with T-Swirl Crepe. When you walk-in the restaurant go past the first counter toward the middle of the restaurant. You will see a sign that says Please wait to be seated. This is where WeiRamen is located. We did not wait though. We were immediately greeted and seated right away. Wei Good and Wei Cool!! I stopped into Wei Ramen purely by accident while walking around the downtown area looking for some grub. I admit I was in explorer mode so I was getting hungry after walking around for a few hours. I hadn't had good Ramen in a while so I decided to check it out. The restaurant is a nicely decorated spot and very inviting. The menu is simple but offers your typical Ramen restaurant fare. I was admittedly hungry so ordered some of my favourites and of course a nice bottle of sake to wash it all down. I had Takoyaki and Karrage Chicken and ordered one of the signature Ramens. I was pleasantly surprised as the food was on par with some of my favourite local Ramen joints in my hometown. I love it when I stumble upon the little gems around the city. Well-Wei Ramen is one of those gems! I'm so glad I tried the ramen. I've been here a couple times to enjoy the crepes in the front of the house-but this was the first time I had the opportunity to try Wei Ramen in the back. Authentic. Delicious. Quick service. Courteous server. I had the veggie miso ramen. Asked them to make it spicy and it was perfect!!!! Hubbs had the roasted chicken ramen (it's their most popular item on the menu). We both enjoyed our dishes. we also had the chicken karaage for an appetizer-also delicious. Everything came out quickly-fresh and hot. The server was patient as we were navigating our way through the menu. It's a cozy little spot. The tables are booth style-so you might end up sitting right next to your fellow patrons. As a matter of fact, there was a party of 6 that sat on the bench next to us and shared their appetizer with us lol. We were curious about what was on their plate and after they explained that it was a fried ball of minced octopus (can't think of the name) -they asked if we wanted to try it. Crazy that indy didn't get their first ramen restaurant until 7-8 years ago. Since then, many ramen establishments have opened around city, including Wei ramen in heart of downtown. The area of the restaurant is in redevelopment as there are a couple of major renovations of large buildings that are becoming hotels. The few blocks have been impacted by covid but is literally in the heart of downtown just blocks from gainbridge field house, monument circle, convention center, and mass ave. Space is clean, large. I have been here a handful of times and ordered carry out a handful of occasions as well. Portions fair and prices reasonable. Comparable to other ramen in city but as of now, probably best ramen in downtown specifically. If this were being judged against ramen from larger cities would be more of a 3 star rating but in medium sized metro such as indy, deserves 3.5 rounded to 4 star overall. read more

One of my favorite Asian foods are steamed buns! I crave them! When I saw steamed buns were on the menu I was thrilled. My friend and I each had a pork bun and split a bowl of ramen. The steamed bun was larger than other places. The sauce on it was delicious and the bun was nice and soft. The ramen broth was very flavorful l and perfect for a cold winter night. The Gyoza was pretty good but the Ramen was . The 2nd time I went I got the Karai Ramen and the Karrage Chicken. Such a nice ramen place in Indiana Me and my friends came here on Labor Day, thanks god they open and offered such a great meal We order Tonkatsu Ramen & Yamisuki Ramen. I guess they are the same base, but Yamisuki Ramen is with black garlic oil flavors, which taste little salty and much stronger than Tonkatsu Ramen. But I have to admit, they are both really good!!! (The noodles were a little sticky because of this but it worked!) the pork was very tender. I agree this ramen spot gets, at best, a 3-star rating. I was hoping for more since I love a good broth, but this spicy ramen was more watery than I expected yet still salty. The pork pieces were more chewy rather than tender. I did order on Uber Eats so my food was lukewarm when it arrived. The delivery person made one stop before making it to my place just to be totally transparent. I want to bring this up as it may have something to do with the watery broth taste and lukewarm temperature. However, I have had a similar ramen before at other restaurants, delivered to go, and the other one I remember tasting a better overall flavor and richness to the broth. This one was diluted and lacked a savory flavor to me. It tasted like it wasn't the freshest ingredients either. Just didn't work unfortunately. I will say that it is a good portion for your money, but it's nothing that I could finish in one sitting if I tried. I have an "Eyes Bigger Than Your Stomach" type of stomach. I ordered the green salad and Japanese pancakes on the side. I wanted to be slightly adventurous. The "pancakes" reminded me of a mooshy quiche (it has egg in it apparently) and the sauce on it was a little bit tangy. The pancake wasn't horrible, I just didn't care to eat more than one wedge. (It's not my thing I guess). The green salad I thought would be my 'saving grace' for being something I am used to and would know that I could eat, but it's topped with a yellow curdy textured salad dressing that I'm not a fan of. Have no idea what that was...So I could not finish it either. Stopped here for a quick meal on a Friday before a Pacers' game. Wei can be a little tricky to find as it shares a space with a creperie. Both the staff and guests were in high spirits. The venue was not overly crowded and my date and I were promptly seated. Perusing the menue it was clear that aside from Ramen, they also specialize in Udon, Curry, and Bao buns. There is a wide variety of Ramen to choose from. On our visit we split the Yuzu Shio Veggie Ramen - a mixture of noodles, bamboo, bean sprouts, cabbage, mushrooms, tofu skin, and nori seaweed. I happened to watch a young women come in and wait 30 mins to even be acknowledged while other guest came straight in and was immediately seated. The women was patient and tried to get the attention of the host and server. The host looked at her and proceeded to ignore her. My table ordered and got our food by the time they finally acknowledged her. The woman spoke up again and you can tell she was trying to be polite and smile but and the server ignored her. We ordered the Yamituske ramen, chicken karaage curry bowl, and veggie potato croquettes. The ramen was delicious, very flavorful broth. The pork chashu was overcooked and dry (we got a huge end piece that I actually couldn't even bite a piece off of) but for me the most important (and most commonly bland) part of the ramen is the broth, and they nailed it. The croquettes were not what I was expecting. They were flat and cut into strips like katsu rather than round, but still good. The curry was....kind of strange and disappointing. I've made better curry at home with the Golden Curry blocks. What we got was rice with a thin layer of yellow-ish curry, layer with egg, and then more rice on top. Came with kimchi? If I were craving curry this would be extremely disappointing, as I would expect rice with a generous ladle of curry filled with chunks of meat, potato, and carrots, not some weird layered rice bowl that had very little actual curry. The katsu sauce on the chicken had more flavor. The karaage was again flat and cut into strips like katsu rather than what I would expect from Japanese fried chicken. I was concerned we got the wrong dish, but the waiter confirmed this is the karaage. Service is fast and no frills, and the food came out quickly. Would definitely come again but skip the curry and just get ramen. There is also a nice mochi donut and bubble tea store at the front. read more

The Tonkatsu ramen is thin, watery and lacks the complexity of a slow cooked pot of broth. The ramen noodles were overcooked and did not resemble true ramen noodles. The soft boil egg was overcooked and was never marinated in soy and mirin. Just a plain overcooked hardboiled egg. The added sushi pink ginger to the ramen which totally made it worse than it was. The gyoza was so so, store bought maybe. The potato croquette was probably the best dish that we had, but was ruined by the bottled sauce that was put on top. My first Ramen experience and it was wonderful! We went for an early dinner on a weeknight and were seated right away. We parked in a garage nearby, street parking may be difficult. The inside is nice and quiet with cozy booths and tables. Our service was quick, friendly, and helpful. I got the spicy ramen and really loved it, the broth was a great medium heat level with lots of flavor that permeated every ingredient. It almost was as if the breading was soft, not sure if that was due to delivery and moisture but Monette disappointing. I did enjoy the sauce with it though. My order was downtown on Washington St. I was not at all happy to have to drive at least one hour round trip to get my food. The environment at Wei Ramen leaves a lot to be desired. It was confusing when my group and I entered because T-Swirl was the first establishment that I saw. Wei Ramen is in the back but they don't have a host directing customers to the back. The folks at T-Swirl directed us to stand at the end of the counter until a member of the Wei restaurant got us a table together. With all that being said, I am still in awe of the food. The food at Wei is game changing. I ordered the vegetarian ramen with a miso base and I am a changed person. So flavorful and packed with so many ingredients.
