Sushi in Gloversville? …read more.. Sushi in Gloversville!! My long hunt for a great lunch spot in this area has finally yielded a fantastic find! On a snowy day, I decided to go out to lunch and try this little Japanese spot in a small town near my job. It was nice to find the place about half full for lunch. It is a small place, about 12 tables, but it was nice inside. I sat near the sushi bar. I was a little skeptical of the sushi, even though I had already heard good reviews. Once I entered and saw some rolls coming out, I decided to go for it. The sushi chef was focused and hard working the entire 45 minutes I dined here, and everything was looking pretty good. I ordered the Sashimi Lunch Box ($12.95). This came with a starter soup and salad, 6 pieces of sashimi, a California roll, 3 gyoza, and white rice. Everything was fresh, well done, flavorful. My soup could have been hotter, but I ate it right up anyways. It was all good - and a great deal. I was so pleasantly surprised by this place. It's not the best sushi I have had, but It's the best lunch place I've tried between Gloversville and Johnstown by a long shot. I will no doubt return here for another lunch! Maybe some hibatchi or special rolls next time! All the lunch prices are great. I'm so happy I found this place.

Table service inside provided a nice atmosphere though staff can be difficult to communicate with at times . Food arrived out of any particular order, but came in fresh each time. We got a variety of sushi, though one of our rolls on a multi Bento was not right, it still was delicious . Special shout out to the vegetable fried rice, which also was extremely yummy. Tokyo distinguishes itself with a good quality of sushi and consistency each time . They will stay for me as a local favorite.

The sushi was great, crudo was super fresh and flavorful, great value! The rice was a little bland, but i didn't order it my friend did and I wouldn't get a Chinese dish at a Japanese restaurant personally. The Katsu was good, however the sauce left something to be desired. A bit over salted with a strange flavour, not bad but maybe too much Tamarind? (not sure but it was unlike otherectile Katau sauce I've had and I used to work in Japanese restaurants). Overall would return for sushi and other Japanese specialties, will try the Gyoza next! And takoyaki if they have it :)

I'll admit it, I was skeptical. We stopped in here for lunch after our second day at the Hall of Fame. We were seated immediately and had a drink order in before we were even settled. Wifey and I were really hungry so we may have overdone it a bit, but it was vacation! We ordered and Eel cucumber hand roll, Angel roll (spicy tuna and cucumber insider with eel and avocado on top), Mt Fuji roll (shrimp tempura and cucumber inside with spicy Kanu on top), Cooperstown roll (shrimp tempura cucumber spicy tuna on top), an Alaska Roll (salmon cucumber avocado), Vegetable tempura, and Wasabi Shumai - pork dumplings. Or service was great because they didn't just dump a pile of sushi on our table...they brought the food in stages which made for pleasant surprises with each stop. While we were here at lunchtime they only seemed to be offering sushi and the appetizers. The only negative I can provide was that it was a rainy humid day so the floor in this place was a bit slippery. Other than that I'd come back in a heartbeat.

My family is in the region on vacation, and we left Liberty (an hour from Tuna III) fairly hungry. I called to make sure that they were open, and a man answered the phone and simply said, "hello, I will call you back in 15 minutes." I shouted an expletive and my wife yelled at me. She argued that "at least we know that they're open." We decided to give them a try. Upon arrival, the "Closed" sign was at the door, but the door wasn't locked so I went in to inquire. Turns out, Chef Wilson was on his own, cleaning up the place by himself after a hectic evening. I explained that I called earlier but no one called me back. He felt badly, and while the place was closed, he took us in. We had the place all to ourselves, and aside from our hunger, we were in no rush. The miso soup was small (but inexpensive, and really good). It had a very strong flavor and included some nice ingredients like enoki mushroom. The house salad had a very nice carrot ginger dressing. I felt like my salmon avocado roll had a but too much rice on it, but the fish was fresh and I enjoyed it. I also realized that Wilson was on somewhat of a hurry to serve us, and being alone, I can't really know exactly what the good would have been like if he had his whole crew there. I enjoyed the sukiyaki... I've had better... it seemed like there was a strong taste of something like vinegar. Still, it was authentic, and I liked it. The only thing that was strange was this spoon shaped like a small ladle. It was hard to get the pieces of cabbage from within there, and I had to slurp, which really pisses off my daughter! My wife and kid both got the Sea Dragon Roll. My wife said she had found her NEW FAVORITE ROLL of all time. They loved it. Great presentation and excellent sauce combo... too bad we can't come back for it regularly. Wilson is a very genuine guy. I really appreciated his taking us in for to the circumstances. I would absolutely support this place if we were locals.
