The Muffaletta sandwich and homemade chips.

This place is legit. Hits on all three segments. Good food, good service, good atmosphere. I had the fried green tomatoes with 1870 sauce and the muffaletta. Both were delicious. I am sure you could put that 1870 sauce on just about anything and it would take it up a notch. The staff was attentive. My drink was never empty. They checked on me and provided updates regularly. If you find yourself in Meridian, this should be a must stop.

The oldest restaurant in Mississippi! How cool! My mom and I were driving from Birmingham to New Orleans when she looked at me and said "I want a steak." Absolutely wild road trip request, but I obliged. I'd never driven in to downtown Meridian, but it's a cute place! It was the Friday before Valentine's Day, so they were pretty packed, but we got a spot at the bar! Service was great, and we had fun listening to the local drama. It's a big building, with bathrooms and the main dining room upstairs. There is an elevator. I got the shrimp scampi, which was good. I'd love to give this spot 5 stars, but must admit I thought the food was only slightly better than Olive Garden quality. However, I'm guessing this is a stand-out ambiance and dinner option here.

Crab cakes on fried green tomatoes were amazing. I skipped the fontina and glad I did. So rich and filling. Had a side of broccoli with it and was perfect choice to offset the fried. Server was exceptional. She was attentive but never interrupted our family time. Loved the history of building and old school vibe. GM checked on us and was very friendly. Greeting staff were cute competent southern girls and they were a great welcome!

I found this place on the way to Gulf Shores, since we were staying the night in Meridian we thought we would grab dinner here. Love the old building, they prove to be the oldest restaurant in Mississippi . They start you with peanut butter and crackers, which is kind of fun and they say that it is a result from changes they had made during the depression back on the day . Pretty sure it's Jiff peanut butter.so kinda fun but coats your pallet. They also serve warm rolls and butter after this. I'm pretty sure the rolls are from frozen and they were OK but just kinda ended up a bit gummy. I have a catfish Belvedere and while it was good, it definitely could've used enough sauce to cover the whole fish, my side was fried green tomatoes, and most of them are really good but one was like a half piece and mostly burnt . The sauce that went with the fried green tomatoes was supposed to be a comeback sauce, but it just tasted like 1000 mile into me, I ask for ranch and it was delicious.. My friend had the shrimp and grits, they were the most different that we've ever had. They were dry enough to maintain height, and the sausage was really weird and actually kind of gross. She really enjoyed the shrimp in the dish.. We share the peanut butter pie, and it was definitely the highlight of the meal. Service in general is really great !

3/2024: Fried green tomatoes with 1870 sauce This dish was huge for an appetizer, you get five tomato slices! Typically you only get three so that was nice that they give you a better bang for your buck. Shrimp only had the sauce flavor, i didn't taste any flavor or seasoning underneath that sauce. Breading and the tomato was great. Sauce I don't really know how to explain. It was sorta like a remoulade? With peppers and mushrooms. I'm not sure that I would get these with the sauce again. I think I'd like them better without it.

Fantastic place right in the heart of Meridian,MS. (The birthplace of country music) I saw so many great plates just walking to our table that it was very hard to decide. At the table was a scoop of peanut butter and a mix of crackers. Great dinner rolls. We started off with the tomato-shrimp bisque. It was excellent! My wife had the shrimp and grits and she loved it. The bowl was large! I had the Redfish Hannah which was blackened and topped with a creamy sauce with shrimp and mushrooms. It was also excellent and a good sized portion. The service was great which you would expect for a landmark restaurant that has been in business since 1870. They had a great looking dessert menu but we will be indulging heavily this week and wanted to delay the sugar injections until at least Thanksgiving.

Amazing. Pretty soon into my research for places to eat during our Deep South road trip, Weidmann's came up for dinner in Meridian. I basically chose the hotel based on its vicinity to this restaurant. It's a good thing, too, because I heard it was one of the few places that were open the Monday after Easter. It's supposedly been open since 1870 which is an incredible accomplishment. You get the vibe that they haven't changed much, and why should they? It is definitely part of the schtick of this place and I love every little bit of it. We were seated immediately on a Monday at prime dinner eating time. The service was excellent. Our server was fantastic and took exceptional care of us. She dropped off a little pottery with peanut butter and of course I thought to myself "what on earth?" Thank goodness for AI who explained that it is a relic of a butter shortage during WW2 which is SO cool. They have a drink menu that is very appropriate for the region. I went with the Ramos Gin Fizz which is in existence thanks to New Orleans. They also had another NO classic, sazerac, and wouldn't be a restaurant in the south without a mint julep (I don't remember for certain but I think it's a fair guess). The gin fizz wasn't quite as authentic as the original but it was enjoyable nonetheless. GF ordered a manhattan but theirs has a southern twist (southern comfort). We had to start with the fried green tomatoes. I've had these before elsewhere but these were, without question, the best I've had. They are of perfect thickness with the most incredible and crispy fried breading. Whatever that sauce they provide for dipping is, it's divine. The only downsides about this restaurant for someone like me, is that they have ZERO vegetarian options for mains. I thought about doing some salad and a bunch of sides bullshit but it was my birthday and I decided to go crazy and order the shrimp scampi pasta without eating the shrimp. There were many other really appealing options but for a very meat/seafood/poultry heavy menu, they have a lot of mushrooms. The scampi was good and refreshing, with a nice hint of lemon in the sauce. The noodles were of perfect texture. It was good but nothing I felt compelled to finish. I told GF that MS has very good catfish so she ordered the fried catfish with a side of potatoes au gratin. "It was good". When asked a follow up question "how did you feel about the catfish, "it was good". I took the rest of it back to our hotel for later. I also ordered their famous black something bottom pie, although this was a hard choice because their dessert menu is NEXT LEVEL. I have never heard of so many items (specifically types of pie) on the menu (that the server impressively memorized). I might go back tomorrrow and take some to go before we leave lmao. I'm so glad we decided to visit this place, a trip to Meridian is not complete without dining here.

Stopped in for Sunday brunch while enroute home north. We made a reservation. The southern ambience in this historical building set the tone for a quaint delicious southern meal. Our waitress Miss Hailey was excellent. Highly recommend.

Service was great, food was prepared well and very tasty. It has a great vibe! The margarita was fresh and the beer was cold.

Boudin stuffed double cut pork chop

I was super excited about this dinner. On my way to Georgia from Texas and checked out the menu prior. That boudin stuffed Durok pork chop was calling my name. The good: best ranch dressing ever and those fried green tomatoes are something special. The not so good: the plating of the pork chop dish was very sloppy and the crawfish sauce was super salty and for me to say that, it had to be overly salted, the loin portion of the chop was money but the meat by the bone was pretty much raw. Sat at the bar and service was great. I'll stop here again but at $45, that dish didn't meet expectations.

    Crawfish and Shrimp Egg Rolls

We drove 5 hours after hearing all the great things so we were a little disappointed. The service was amazing! Very attentive! The ambience is dim lighting and perfect for a date night. The place was clean! The food however, needed improving & a lot more seasoning! The Caesar salad was drowning in dressing to the point that I could not eat it! The crawfish & shrimp eggrolls had very little crawfish & shrimp inside, and I personally did not like the hardness of the homemade dough. They tasted old and reheated. They could've been served hotter and that, perhaps might would've made them taste fresher ‍ idk maybe!?! The fish dish that my husband ordered, I don't remember the name was not appealing to the eye, had very little seasoning, was a bunch of ingredients just mixed together and thrown on top & underneath with an inner black ingredient that we still do not know what it was! I guessed truffles, but my husband said it didn't taste like truffles so we don't know! The cocktails were good in nice size portions. We will not be returning on our next visit to Mississippi

We went here yesterday as we were traveling from Alabama back to Dallas. We stopped here because it was a nice break and allowed us to get out the car. We didn't realize the restaurant required reservations but the host was super accommodating and made space for us in the cocktail area. The drinks and food were great, but if we come back I'd really explore the dessert menu. There was so much we wanted to get!! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because they didn't have a changing table in the men's restroom and that just felt very archaic to me. Men change diapers too!! Other than that, I highly recommend if you're driving through.

Very nice location and upscale presentation, but my food was very bland and looked like your basic Sysco menu.
