Jason the Sunday brunch bartender is awesome. I make it a goal to go to restaurants I can't get at home while traveling (I'm a traveling chef for my company) I was recommended Weismann's for brunch by the hotel staff where I'm working during this week and I'm glad I tried it. I arrived around 1pm and the bar had only a couple sitting at it so I opted for the bar as I typically enjoy eating and drinking with minimal interruptions (I'm an introvert nothing personal) and bartenders are usually good at picking up on this. As I sat down Jason introduced himself presented me with the daily specials and took my drink order (Irish old fashioned) I substitute for Jameson personal preference. It was made and delivered in under a minute and was made perfectly. I ordered a cup of loaded potato soup The soup was hot and fresh and loaded with flavor Main entree was the southern breakfast Biscuit with gravy, eggs, sausage, fried green tomatoes (I opted for no tomato) Breakfast came out timely and hot. Eggs were not seasoned but I'm sure like most restaurants they have probably received complaints in the past for seasoning eggs so they let the guest do it themselves which is perfectly acceptable. Overall my meal was 8/10 I only gave it an 8 because I was told they could only do scrambled or poached and couldn't do over easy. I didn't press the issue and it didn't give me a negative look of the restaurant I'm sure they have their reason as to why. From one chef to an establishment, well done. read more

We did have reservations and were taken right in and seated. It was a Friday evening with lots of open tables; but it was early. We had the traditional peanut butter and crackers and their famous fried green tomatoes for appetizers. My husband ordered shrimp and grits (he is a connoisseur) and he said they were one of, if not, THE best ever! Believe me, that's saying a lot. I had Chicken Ya Ya and Chipotle Smashed Sweet Potatoes and both were excellent. Lots of ambiance with great service. Got locked in the bathroom by a ghost so that was very scary. Love the atmosphere my first time going to this restaurant. The food was immaculate. The second time my server forgot my order and I waited for over an hour for cold microwaved food. So they gave free fried green tomatoes so overall I'd rate this a four out of five read more

Great little gem in Meridian! In town on business and an associate took us here for lunch. Parking is on the street. We got there about 1145 and there was plenty. Greeted by a hostess that took us to a table and we were promptly greeted by our server and she took out drink orders. The atmosphere is classy and rustic. lots of history the guy who brought us told us about coming here when he was younger and all the changes. Clothes table clothes and napkins. I ordered the Chicken Salad sandwich and got Mac and cheese as a side instead of the standard kettle chips. The others ordered the Muffuletta sandwich and a burger. They said it was excellent. Service was excellent. Food was brought promptly and presented well. The manager stopped by and check on our experience. Definitely recommend this place if you find yourself in Meridian. Cool place and definitely my top pick in Meridian. Culture in the history of this place is really interesting and it has a little sentimental value to me since my family has grown up in this area for many generations. After doing a bit of research on Yelp for the area I came across Weidmann's. Traveling through the area, we had family meet us and this seemed like the perfect spot. WOW! We were not disappointed! They actually went by during the afternoon to check out the location and happened upstairs (Balcony Bar area). Before our dinner they were talking about this wonderful person they met and were extremely excited to go back for dinner. Insert NOTE here... We are older, gravity effected grandma's. I know the thoughts were hmmm bar and women. NOPE this was sincere. We did have a reservation, but walked in and were seated immediately. From the moment we were seated during every course we were treated like we were the only guests in the restaurant. This was a Friday night so they were packed! James was our incredible server and was absolutely the BEST!!! John (who was upstairs earlier) came by and checked on us. Oh wait we haven't even talked about the food. AMAZING!!! We tried so many different foods and not one complaint. We had several appetizers and tried the Redfish, Chicken Ya Ya and New Orleans Barbecue Shrimp. The Creole Cabbage was also a great side dish. This restaurant is very nice. Every table is adorned with a vase and fresh flowers. I got the shrimp tortellini but substituted chicken for the shrimp. It was delicious. My salad was also really good and my son liked the chicken salad sandwich. The sweet tea is on point as well. Our server was Lexi and she did a terrific job. She was very personable and answered questions. We had about the city as we've never been here before. She kept our ice tea full the entire time we were here. One manager stopped to ask us how things were going. Another manager walked by and made eye contact and smiled. Clearly, they care about their customer's experience. The brick inside the building is really cool. The bathrooms are upstairs but there's an elevator as well as a stairwell. I'm told that there is a third floor as well. The oldest restaurant in Mississippi, and a historical gem. When you walk in, there is a copy of the original Weidmann's menu. The restaurant has a great ambiance - inside and out. The rolls are delicious, and it is fun that they still serve the rolls with crocks of peanut butter (an ode to the restaurant's history). We ordered the Crawfish Diablo and Shrimp Tortellini. I would say the food was good, but not great. Overall, a nice Southern dining experience in Downtown Meridian with lots of historical flare. read more

Have been on the road visiting family in Florida and Alabama for 4 months. Driving north now through Mississippi, stayed in Biloxi and now Meridian. Weidmann's the finest restaurant I have eaten in all this time. I tend to be critical, figure at my age (70's), I can! First of all, it is wonderful indeed to be able to park downtown and feel safe. We arrived last night, Thursday, 5:30 pm and the downstairs was full! But no problem, there was room upstairs. Hubs and I ordered fried green tomatoes, shrimp scampi, and a salad with grilled salmon. I often order fried green tomatoes but usually they are over battered and have no flavor. But not these. The batter was light and tasty on its own! But peel it and the tomato had flavor too! It's hard to cook fried green tomatoes (and we all have our own preferences) but Weidmann's does it right. I ordered them with sauce on the side. (I wanted fried green tomatoes, not smothered tomatoes!) But the sauce -- the 1870 sauce -- was so delicious, my husband said it stands alone! It has mushrioms, shrimp, and cheese. Can go over anything. Hubs loved his shrimp scampi, said the shrimp was not overcooked and the sauce was not over garlicky but had a pleasant lemony finish. It was a large portion and cost around $23, (not exact). My spring lettuces salad was awesome, fresh, large, had a big chunk of goat cheese in it. They set the salmon on top so the heat melted the cheese and the combination of champagne vinagrette, cheese, lettuce and salmon was so tasty. The salmon was crunchy on the edge but not overcooked so it had a slight smokey flavor. Very good and very good value. ($21) We took dessert back to the hotel. I recommend the black bottom pie (oh my) and the lemon almond pie, nice crusts. The ginger snap chocolate crust on the black bottom pie was unusual but it worked. We ordered a bottle of Freiman Brothers chardonnay only because we were able to take it with us. (44) (note half that price at Costco, ha!) . Weidmann's lived up to its good reviews for us. My only issue is that all of our dishes arrived at the same time! There was no time to enjoy a glass of wine, relax, munch on appetisers before the entrees came out. Too bad because then your mains or your appetisers do not stay hot. But I still give Weidmann's 5 stars because the food is good. I had read many positive reviews about Weidmann's and decided to check it out. We ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger and Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. Both orders came with homemade potato chips which were very delicious. The cheeseburger was cooked well and tasted good. However, the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich was very dry and tasteless. The meat was overcooked and there wasn't but a couple sautéed onions and peppers on it. I would not recommend ordering it. read more

The Philly cheesesteak needed more meat and less bread. We were too full to try dessert. My mother-in-law and I decided to try Weidmann' Restaurant for lunch after church today. Since we beat most of the church crowd we were seated promptly. Our serve, Kennedy was an absolute joy. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and the daily specials. Our drinks and food were delivered without any issues. All in all Kennedy deserves a gold star for her service. The food was delicious. The lemon almond pie was delicious. It was not too sweet. As you can imagine a restaurant as old as Weidmann's, the walls are filled with art and pictures ranging from antique to modern. They have an impressive collection of mugs, which look like they are from different countries. All in all, we had a delightful experience with good food.
