Great food. We ordered the zucchini noodles (zoodles) and meatballs and mashed potatoes. So delicious. So good we went back the second night. We ordered a typical Austrian white wine, bread with oil and butter, mixed salad, beef soup with dumpling and pasta with beef strips in a lime sauce. For dessert we had pancakes filled with ice cream and apricot jelly.

A Must Visit...Outstanding Atmosphere, Food and Service! We visit Restaurant Weiherwirt every trip to Salzburg and they always seem to surpass our high expectations. It is about a 10 minute drive from the Salzburg city center and we like to combine our visit with a gentle stroll on the lake's trail that the restaurant is on. A lot of people know this lake because directly across from the restaurant is the Schloss Leopoldskron (Sound of Music Von Trapp home). Tina and Murat, owners of Weiherwirt, take huge pride in the restaurant and are incredibly welcoming. This time of year we like to sit on the relaxing and shaded patio, but the inside seating is also an oasis of peace where the spoil you in tasteful ambiance. Restaurant Weiherwirt is reasonably price considering how upscale the food, service and atmosphere are. Not only is the food perfectly prepared, it was also beautifully presented. You feel like you can just relax and enjoy your meal and that is exactly what you want from a restaurant. Service is excellent, fast and never pushy. Nothing is ever too much trouble, from suggesting wines to even combining some menu items. This past visit we particularly enjoyed starting our meal with white asparagus made on light Hollandaise sauce. The hardest choice you will have is deciding whether to have steak with the best herb butter known to man or fish (both freshwater and seafood). I have had both here and you cannot go wrong. They have great salads as well if you are looking for something on the lighter side. Our waiter even suggested a house wine they had available that was a perfectly blended red 2016 vintage. It was so good, I bought two bottles of it at a local store that made the trip back to the U.S. We decided to try an after dinner drink on this past visit and had a sipping rum that Tina suggested. I was blown away at how incredibly good it was and yes, I went out and bought this bottle too and brought it back to the U.S. We definitely recommend this restaurant as a must do. I highly recommend reservations for the summer months.

    Incredibly tasty!

This is the best dinner place, next to the lake, taste is superior to the seafood you will find in USA

Dinner here was fine, but not the 4.5 star experience Yelp led us to believe. Yelpers so…read morerecommended this place that we tried to go our first night in town, and were advised that it might be a 30 minute wait -- but the staff *also* told the 7 parties ahead of us that it might be a 30 minute wait for them, too. So we went elsewhere. We went back the next night at an off-hour and while the food was fine, I would have been highly disappointed had we waited in line for 30 minutes, let alone 2 or more hours. This restaurant has a prime location and a strong online reputation. And perhaps our experience was impacted by the fact that we went at an off-hour. Still, there are much better options, with equal character, available across the city. Consider branching out -- and check my other Salzburg reviews for other alternatives.

We came in around 5pm for an early dinner before our train back to Munich and was able to grab a table for 4. We got incredibly lucky because the restaurant really filled up and by the time we left, there was a long line down the block. Of course we had to have their Original Wiener Schnitzel, which was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We also had a Salzburger Nockerl, which is a classic Austrian soufflé dessert that is considered a culinary symbol of Salzburg. You do have to order this about 20 minutes in advance, so we ordered it when we made our entree orders. This was really good and honestly, more than enough for our group of 4. I also highly recommend their house beer, which was one of the best beers I had during our 10 day trip.

During our first visit to Salzburg in 2009, we asked our hotelier to recommend a genuine Austrian…read morerestaurant - one that did not offer "Menus for tourists" and that prepared authentic dishes. He recommended the Bärenwirt. Returning to Salzburg with our 11 adult children and grandchildren, we wanted them to have a similar authentic experience so we made a reservation at our old haunt, which has been in operations since 1663. Things have changed over the last 16 years. On our first visit, the menu was only in German and our server spoke to us in German until we threw in the towel and admitted, "Ich spreche nicht sehr gut Deutsch. Englisch, bitte?" (I don't speak German well. English, please?) Now, 16 years later, English has become the default and today, the menu is presented in four languages. But the food is still just as authentic and delicious. Taking grandkids who range from 10 to 15 years of age, we were bracing for a few refrains of, "I don't LIKE that! It's weird!" or similar rants, but we heard none of it. All the kids (and parents, too, for that matter) dove gamely into the menu and found things that were to their liking. The menu is large and varied. Main dishes include roast pork, pasta, sausage with roasted potatoes, dumplings, goulash, schnitzel, fried chicken, boiled beef and (of course) bratwurst. The food was good, there was an excellent variety, and it was brought out quickly. Prices for main dishes were quite reasonable, with most under €20. Wiener Schnitzel was the most expensive, at €28,90 but it was an outlier. The only issue I had was the price of the soft drinks. Between our grandkids, they had 10 Cokes - at €5.90 EACH. That was €59 for sodas; more than we paid for all of our beers. My wife was determined that, for dessert, the kids and grands would all taste Kaiserschmarren mit Zwetschkenröster - cut-up pancake with raisins topped with powdered sugar and served with a jam for dipping. A truly Austrian experience that everyone enjoyed, though some more than others. On the night we visited, we encountered several other parties of Americans. I have no way of knowing whether the place has become that popular with visitors or management simply corralled us into the same room. Regardless, it was a very pleasant evening and one I'm sure we will repeat the next time we're in Salzburg.
