Matthew was amazing. We talked first about concerns, illnesses, pain etc.... He was very helpful also in helping me explain what I was trying to convey. But let's talk about the deep massage and stretching, ladies this is who you want to ask for. I felt wonderful for days. Pain level leaving and days to follow was much more tolerable. I plan on making this once a month rotation. As soon as you walk in, it's breathtaking, and the ambiance is so soft, inviting and very cozy. The doos as you walk into the rooms for the massages are gold and the detail on them makes you think you're out of the country. The rooms were just as beautiful and the bed was warm too. I booked a couples massage and a Brazilian wax during my visit. I want to be fair in this review because the massage was genuinely amazing. It was relaxing, calm, and the pressure was actually perfect for the tightness in my back. Me and my partner really enjoyed that part of the experience. The wax service is where I had a different experience. I'm used to getting waxed regularly and haven't had issues in the past. I booked a Brazilian wax, and while the technician was nice, the service didn't go well for me personally. She went over the same areas multiple times, and it got to the point where my skin became very irritated. In one area, the wax caused my skin to lift and I did bleed, which has never happened to me before. She mentioned I may be sensitive, which I understand, but even so, I've never experienced that level of irritation or skin being pulled before. I also still had patches of hair left afterward, so I didn't feel the service was fully completed the way I expected. She did discount $10 from the service, but I still left feeling like the experience wasn't what I paid for or expected. The place itself is nice and the staff were polite, and I don't want this to come off as bashing anyone. I'm just sharing my personal experience so others are aware. Wow, wish I would've read these reviews prior........... Ronald was great but that's the only great thing. We had a couples massage and the female masseuse was 30 min late. I've only gotten a few massages but I could tell she was inexperienced. She did not have a handle of the human body. And by contrast, Ronald was asking my husband questions and using his knowledge of human anatomy to explain the possible reasons why, very professional. Because the female masseuse was in a rush, she never told me to remove my jewelry and ended breaking one of gold bracelets. When asking the owner, we were only offered minimal compensation for the "next massage". As if. They also have you fill out the form in the beginning to highlight any problem areas, and I am pretty sure she never even looked at mine. Probably because she was late. TL;DR - I was having terrible hip pain and Lizbethe cured me when nothing else was working! --------------- I have been going to Panacea for massages for about two years now. I like them because they are close to my home, and have great scheduling options. The massage therapists are fantastic and always kind. I went yesterday due to a bad hip strain and back pain to try to get some relief. I saw Lizbethe and told her about my sore hip. I gave no specifics to the injury or what happened, just that I was hurting. I had tried everything - ice, ibuprofen, the doctor, rolling, stretching, you name it. I was getting no relief. Lizbethe is a miracle worker. She spent a ton of time on my low back and hips, finding all the problem areas and incorporating different varieties of pressure and techniques to help release. I feel AMAZING. I can sit without pain, slept great last night, can move freely since a back surgery I had a year ago, and am so so grateful to her. She's an amazing massage therapist. Went here only because of spafinder pass. Music: 1/10. There's a lot of bass and drums in the music they played. Then it was "jungle" vibe type of intense music. Then some chanting that is similar to the ones we'd hear in Buddhist temples. I'm not sure how to relax in this. I saw a lot of requests for Ronald on here so that's who I had booked online. They called me and asked if having a females masseuse was ok. I said yes, as long it is someone strong. She ended up not having enough pressure for my deep tissue and her hands would be shaky from putting in too much strength for what she can give. Not sure why they wanted me to change my masseuse for someone that can't perform a deep tissue massage well. The massage also ended up being 15min less than what I requested for. I was waiting in the bed for over 10min waiting for them to come back after being undressed. At least their beds are heated. But go to Chinatown to actually get your knots out and get your entire time's worth. read more

I scheduled a last minute facial and was told they would be able to see me in 30 minutes so I scheduled the appointment. When I got there, the woman who would be giving me the facial pulled up at the same time, I thought it was odd but continued anyway. I could pretty much tell from the beginning that this was not going to be a very good facial. About the 15 minutes in I decided to opt for the quickest (and cheaper) facial so I could just get out of there. It took her 30 minutes to cleanse and exfoliate so I told her to move onto the steam and extractions because that's mostly why I go into a facial. I can cleanse and exfoliate at home for free! She lost time on the other and didn't have time for the extractions so I left with blackheads. She also focused more so on my forehead and hairline when I carry my blackheads heavily on my nose and chin, like most people. She used the same stinky washcloth each time she did a warm towel, which is gross. I know because it had a bad scent and she would put it back in the box each time she was done and pull it back out of the box each time she needed it. She also used the same bowl to rinse the same towel out with every time, which defeats the purpose of cleaning skin, using dirty water. While I normally come out looking like a glazed doughnut, I came out opposite of that and I got none of the list of things that's was advertised with the facial. When I asked about the sign in the window advertising 20% off facials, they said birthday. Much to their surprise, it was my birthday so when I said, "great, I'll take it"they offered 10% off and not the 20% in writing in the window. I also saw the woman leaving after me so my conclusion is she's a friend, wife, owner, etc., that they called into help and not a licensed aesthetician. I won't be visiting any longer! read more

I will start this review off by saying I am not really the reviewing type unless I have something great to say about a place. That being said, initially I did write up a stellar review for this place. The two therapists I tried out were wonderful! I literally went back there three weeks in a row and was about to purchase their membership, however I was super disappointed by Panacea Massage and Spa today. I made an appointment this afternoon for Saturday evening. This evening I received a call/voicemail from them to "confirm" my appointment for Saturday, so I called back. I was informed that to keep my appointment I would have to upgrade my 1.5 hr massage to their valentines day package that costs $150 for 1.5hr or $100 for an hr. The package sounded lovely but I simply cannot afford that right now.. Ultimately I just feel pretty disappointed and my feelings were hurt. I'm a repeat customer that was going to continue coming until after this interaction. It is up to a business to decide how they are going to treat their patrons and if this is how it will be going forward I am just not interested in returning. I also just want to note that this info about this weekend being a "valentines day package weekend only" was not on their website as I was booking. If you're the type of person that gets invested to returning to a business because they take care of you/treat you well and make you feel welcome I would suggest reconsidering and try out a different place because when you are really looking forward to a great massage and then get a cancellation call because you either couldn't or wouldn't upgrade to a more expensive service, it will probably leave you feeling some type of way that isn't favorable. read more

As a bridesmaid, part of our duty is to plan the bachelorette weekend for the bride. We wanted to do something to help her relax after a long night of partying. After carefully researching I found Panacea Spa & they offered a great deal for a "Spa Party" that included a 30 min Swedish massage & a 30 min refreshing facial for 6, & we would all get our treatments at the same time. The girls were apprehensive at first when they realized a male therapist would do their massage but at the end they all said they were extremely comfortable, relaxed, & more than satisfied with their massage. Matthew did an amazing job on my Swedish massage. Every other time before this when I've gotten a massage it was always painful so I was anxious for this one but he was gentle, yet firm where needed & communicated consistently to make sure I was comfortable all throughout. Bruce also got a shoutout from one of the bridesmaids as doing an awesome job on her as well. Rita is the owner and made sure we were well taken care of by offering us chocolate covered strawberries & champagne as part of the package. Receptionist was excellent but this review is about my massage therapist. I told him several times my massage was hurting/painful but he kept on with his hard hard pressure. I stuck the pain out. The next day I have bruises all over my body from my back to my neck to my chest. It hurts so bad I feel like I never ever want a man massager again. My massage was not relaxing, it was very painful. I did not complain to the front because I came from out of town and I felt complaining wouldn't fix anything. I am scared to get another massage. I had 2 services done here. The facial was great but do not get your lashes done here! Chunks started falling out after 2 days on mine and when I tried to have it fixed, they seemed bothered I kept calling. In the end, they didn't contact me back. It's only been 2 weeks and I have no lashes but a corner on one and the other one has some here and there. I've never had this experience with lashes and I've been getting them done for years. I had high hopes. Edit: I have the phone calls and text messages to prove what the "owner" is otherwise stating. The worst experience that I ever had. I've booked 3 services on my day off. Massage,, which was amazing with Ronald, body exfoliation with body wrap and a facial.. I am a spa person. I know everything about beauty services, I am an esthetician myself. Well... when do I get started... My massage started with one lady. 10 min later I've heard lots of noise. And my lady left the room. TDLR came to check on this place. And my lady didn't have a license there neither her ID and officers prohibit her to keep doing services. They told me to get up and leave the room. Not a good start, right? And I just should've leave that place and never come back. But managed assured me that she already called a different massage therapist and I'll get my services right away. And she put me back to my room. I've waited about 40 min( I know, that was my fault but I really wanted to get my great relaxation on my only day off) Than I was told that I'll have an amazing facial first then body massage and then body wrap Then guy walked in and he said that I'll be in heaven when he starts my facial. I couldn't wait and got excited. Until he started to apply cleanser with a fan brush.... whaaaat?? Then without even foaming it he removed with hot towel and then he applied scrub also with a fan brush.... I apologized and left the room. Then I found out that they send to give me a facial make up artist.... I told the manager I guess that I don't want a facial anymore and she promised that her senior esthetician is on her way and I'll have a great facial. Then Ronald performed wonderful massage. I was impressed and more relaxed until that embarrassing body exfoliation and wrap. You shouldn't even offer it to the customers But I understand money hunger of some spa owners. That was a simple application of body scrub without scrubbing. Then she immediately removed it with wet not hot towels and I froze. I asked for more towels and was removing it myself she was slow and I was cold. Then she applied whatever cream which didn't give me any sensation and wrapped me. Then she started a facial if you can call it a facial. Products that she applied burned my skin and I asked to stop after 2nd step, after scrub application and that's it. She massaged my hands and feet ( I didn't need it after I already had a great masssge). Anyway , long story short I received a 50$ off a facial... that I didn't have and paid 300$ at the end... I feel that I was robbed. I don't mind to pay for the great time and beautiful services but I didn't get any.. except massage. My appointment was at 1.30 and I left 6.45. I really enjoy the massages at Panacea! That always take their time here and do not disappoint! The atmosphere of the entire place is also just so great and relaxing, extremely optimal for a massage. I got the deep tissue massage which really worked out all of the knots in my back. As a full body massage all of the different sore spots on your body are worked on, allowing you to leave feeling rejuvenated! Had a 2 hour trigger point and Swedish massage with Yisel followed by an Iluma facial with Priscilla and both were amazing! Arrived about 15 min early and entered to a beautifully and ornately decorated lobby. Was greeted by a nice person at the front desk who gave the paperwork which was quick and easy to complete. Was asked if I need to use the restroom and it was nice and clean and fresh. Then went to treatment room and had Yisel review my paperwork and areas of focus with me. Once we started the massage she was really careful to ask many times if the pressure was ok because it was my first trigger point massage. She did a wonderful job using great pressure and massage techniques. In addition, she truly listened and remembered the areas to focus on. After this I went to Priscilla for my facial. Priscilla asked what I was looking to achieve and customized a portion to ensure I got those results. She was wonderful as well and I can still see the difference in my face. Let's book it at 3:15p on a Sunday. They close at 6p on Sundays. We arrived on time, took 10 min to fill out paper. Front desk did not know what a Swedish massage entailed. Had to google it to give me an answer. Bad sign from the start. From mom's experience, as soon as she saw the masseuse she felt rushed, "let's get started because we're late. You should of arrived at 3:15" keep in mind we did, but filled out paper. No relaxation room, no refreshments. Approximately a 40 minute massage and 30 minute facial. How am I so sure about this?? Because I dropped my mother off to run an errand and set a timer for the hour and 40 I was expecting her to be there. My timer hadn't gone off when she called me and told me she was waiting outside because she felt like they were closing. I ended up paying $148 for a lackluster rushed combination. So disappointed. There was no attention to detail, no strawberries as promised, not the length of time I paid for. Next time I'll follow my gut instinct and go to Aliras where the customer service can't be beat. read more

I settled on Panacea because it seemed decently affordable & not a basic chain place. The staff & owner were very friendly & the lobby/rooms were very nice. Luckily my girlfriend loved hers & said it was the best massage she's had! Mine on the other hand was horrible & very painful. I appreciated the interaction with my booking and the reminder texts they sent. Not sure if they text everyone for reminders, but it was helpful. Ronald was the tech who did my massage. He is very talented and I highly recommend him. His pressure was firm, but not painful. I am extremely happy with the results- feeling less tight in my neck/ upper back and overall more loose and less pain in my shoulders and neck. This is great! I had an amazing 2 hour deep tissue massage here. What made me pick this place out of all the places I've researched in Houston is due to the reviews. You fill out a form upon arrival. I was 30 minutes early to my appointment and was still able to be seen immediately. My masseuse name was Giselle and she's absolutely amazing. Some techniques that she used ,It was the first time I experience it. I've gotten many massages in many places that I've traveled to. She is super thorough on going through each area of my spine and whole body. She's also very cautious on not exposing your body and the pressure was great. She started out by asking if I had any medical conditions and areas I feel needs the most work. I felt like a jello after my session. I will definitely be back. Everyone does wear a mask and you need to wear a mask throughout your whole session. That can be a bit uncomfortable when you're face down because it makes it slightly harder to breathe. Just be cautious. Cost was $158, I paid 180 cash with tip. Customer service from when I entered and left was also great. Everyone was very nice. read more
