My son went in for an injury and basically got an X-ray and referral. They took his insurance card and co-pay. We then got a bill because the P.A. wasn't taking our insurance "that day," which he WAS NOT informed of. My insurance rep called and because the P.A. should have a supervising doctor who did take our insurance (I've NEVER had this problem with our insurance) they said they'd cease billing...but took the money out of my son's account (they had the card from the co-pay) the next day. 3 times I've been told by billing that a manager would call me back; no call back. This is so wrong, if I can find the time will pursue with elected officials. read more

I went in for a cough and stuffy nose as well as chest congestion and I told them I think I have pneumonia well they took my temp and blood pressure and then checked my ears the guy who I had goes ur ears are really red and swollen you have a bad ear infection ‍ and prescribed meds when in fact I don't have a ear infection at all my ears didn't even hurt and still don't and I'm still sick with this cough so I'll be going to my normal doctor in am %0 recommend horrible they don't know what they are talking about at all and the nurse they gave me didn't even know how to pronounce most of the medication's listed on my chart I had to keep correcting him read more

Went in in alot of pain. Thought I had a urinary infection. Tested my urine said I didn't but probably had kidney stones or CANCER They called a ambulance to take me hospital. 6hrs later it turns out I did indeed have a urinary infection & the pain was from passing the stone. So very very incompetent. Total waste of time. Had me crying for 6hrs waiting for results from cat scan wondering if I had cancer ! They directed me to website that doesn't exist ! read more

Beware of billing problems. Six months after treatment they came calling for money, despite me having valid insurance and Medicare. Their billing handling has been less than satisfactory in my approximation. Now I see I still (3/18) have a negative report on my credit report for this urgent care transaction. So much for urgent care. My 19-year old daughter was turned away with horrible throat pain/white spots all over throat. She Ubered there and was told they couldn't help her. Just starting that day they were no longer taking walk-ins. She came 10 minutes after 8am opening, literally crying from the pain and telling them she had no immediate transportation to get back. Nothing. Just made her walk the streets for half an hour and try again. (Wouldn't help her then either) How long would it have taken to do a throat swab? This is our go to place for urgent care. The staff is very nice and friendly. They take all of your concerns seriously. I have never had to wait an excessive amount of time. The doctors explain treatments in detail and will answer any questions or concerns you may have. This is the only place we use for an urgent care center. read more

Find out if you're seeing a real doctor..... I waited 45 min. in the waiting room before being being taken back for an additional 45 min. wait in one of the medical rooms. I'd assumed I'd be seeing a physician, but in fact saw a physician's assistant. The big difference is that one has gone to medical school and the other hasn't. I'd assumed I'd be seeing a doctor. In trying to understand my medical problem the response was "I haven't seen anything like that, I don't know, you should see your primary care doctor." The problem was a tiny painless, white spot on my tongue. This was a complete waste of time, and I have to pay these people for nothing. read more

Has the most unfriendly service. Scott (I believe) was the PA and he was great! But the rest of the staff were awful. The lady at the front desk asked me the same question three times. Charged me an insane copay even though I was here a few months ago and my copay was $10. Nothing with my insurance had changed. And all around just seemed like she had better things to do than be there. The lady that took my strep test forgot to put the results in the computer. It was a far cry from the raving reviews I've seen. The first time I had gone in was phenomenal. Everybody was great. I don't know what changed but other than the PA, the staff is lacking. read more

I normally don't bother to review places like this - but I feel compelled to warn others. WellNow advertises Covid test, but be aware that it is a huge money grab! I have three issues: 1. Their online registration system only allows for same day scheduling - that's incredibly frustrating and leads me to my opinion that this establishment isn't a testing site 2. Once you schedule your same day appointment, they call you from the parking lot to 'check you in' - essentially making you tell them the SAME information you already entered to make the testing appointment. BUT the employee isn't tech proficient and had to restart his computer twice while rekeying my (previously entered) info. 3. During the 'check in' process, they asked questions unrelated to covid testing, like what medication you take, the person's name for which you've been exposed, medical history (surgeries, health problems, etc.) This information has NOTHING to do with covid testing and should absolutely not be required to be provided to test. When I told them that I felt uncomfortable providing this info, they informed me that I couldn't test without it. I highly recommend you skip this establishment for any Covid testing. read more

So again, normally wouldn't review a non-food place, especially one that hasn't been reviewed yet or created yet on Yelp but being as pessimistic as I was about this place I have to say they needed a review! So my wife was having some issues with her hands and we decided to try this place after one of her co-workers told her to try it. Their price is reasonable if you don't have insurance but even more so with insurance our co-pay was $14.50 rather than the $20 which was a great start. The front desk was incredibly nice and helpful and after filling out a very small amount of paperwork at the front desk they took her right back to be seen, no wait, we didn't even sit down at all, they took her right back which I have never seen before. I was shocked. The doctor was very nice, very informative and we were out of there within 10 minutes. This will definitely be my go to place for "walk-in" needs as they require no appointment and are fast on the intake. If your feeling unsure as whether or not to visit, don't wait, go there and you'll be very surprised at the level of care they give. My wife was beyond pleased and that's all I need to be happy. read more

I recently went to Five Star Urgent Care in Ithaca for an injured wrist late on a Saturday afternoon (last Saturday). From the time I arrived until my departure, I was treated exceptionally well by the staff there. The admissions process was very easy, and I was taken to an examination room within five minutes of my arrival there. I was initially screened by a nurse, then thoroughly examined by a doctor approximately ten minutes later. A few minutes later, I was taken into an X-ray room to have my injured wrist X-rayed (the X-ray technician was very friendly and professional). I was then escorted to a nicely decorated, unique waiting room (they have two) where I waited to learn the doctor's diagnosis of my wrist injury. The staff member who escorted me to the waiting room and asked me if I would like to watch a 3-D movie on their wide screen HDTV (to which I said yes). My total wait time there was approximately fifteen minutes, until the doctor came to me and nicely directed me to a computer monitor where she could show me my fractured wrist X-ray images. The doctor and a medical assistant then carefully put my wrist and lower arm into a fiberglass cast to immobilize the fracture. The doctor then made a referral to an orthopedic specialist for further care. Based upon this visit, I am quite impressed with the quality of care provided at this facility. read more

I went with my mother and we were both being seen for different reasons yet they put us in the same room because they were out of rooms, really odd. read more

I have been here three times in the past three years and I have never had a bad experience at Five Star. My wait times have been on average less than thirty minutes and typically the front desk is available to help be right away. Melissa is very friendly and quick to understand her patients needs. After waiting two hours to be seen (they are understaffed so I understand but they need to adjust accordingly) the doctor came in and talked to me for MAYBE 5 minutes. I told him I had a severe sore throat/fatigue for about 9 days and had tested negative for Covid with no exposures. He ignored what I was saying and gave me antibiotics for a "respiratory infection" WITHOUT running any sort of tests to confirm what I may or may not have. My discharge paperwork said "confirmed exposure to Covid, treat accordingly" even though, again, I tested negative for Covid TWICE, which was confirmed with their PCR and rapid tests. I was uneasy taking antibiotics without a for sure diagnosis and I ended up going somewhere else for another opinion and they ran tests and it turns out I had mono. If I had taken the antibiotics the Wellnow physician had given me I could have had a severe reaction.....My advice is to go to a doctors office that has 1) time to fit you in, 2) the professionalism to run tests on your symptoms and 3) does not assume you have Covid JUST because you are a college-aged student. read more

There's a reason management responds to everyone's reviews within a day: THEYRE TRYING TO COVER THEIR BEHINDS. Avoid at all costs. There's five receptionists and none of them were helpful. I provided three forms of insurance and they couldn't "verify it" but despite having an empty office in the middle of the afternoon, none of the five receptionists had the time to sit on the phone with the insurance company. But guess who does have the time? The patient who comes in to be seen but waits an hour because of incompetent staff. She had ME call the insurance company because she "didn't have the time" regardless of the fact there was no one in the office and four other staff members. How long did I wait on the phone with the insurance company? 2 minutes. Tell me how none of the five receptionists have two minutes of time to sit on the phone with an empty office. The PA herself was great but the fact that it took 1.5 hours just to see the PA for five minutes because of incompetent and impatient receptionists means you should avoid this place. read more

I was suffering miserably from a terrible cough and horrible sore throat. My husband and I arrived first thing Sunday morning when they opened. We were greeted by a friendly staff and registered quickly and up immediately taken to a room. Within 10 minutes I was seen, given a diagnosis, prescription was ordered and we were in our way. We arrived at 8:00 and we left the parking lot at 8:24. Great experience and wouldn't hesitate using them again. read more

Had a really bad experience for such a simple test that had to be taken. I had called the day before to see how long it would take and the receptionist let me know that I wouldn't have to wait as only a sample was being taken and I wouldn't need to wait for a physician. However, when I came to Wellnow Urgent Care, I had to wait more than 30 minutes before they even handed me the proper paperwork to fill out. Can't say enough good things about this walk-in urgent care clinic. It changed hands a few years back to WellNow and seems more efficient now, (but still liked it when it was 5 Star Urgent Care). Several family members have needed treatment in the last several years for : the flu, flu that turned into pneumonia twice, puncture wound, UTI -other illnesses/injuries that either happen on a weekend or when it just can't wait for our regular doctor offices to have an opening in their schedule. We all drive right by the Cayuga Medical Center's ER (to get to WellNow) because past experience has proven anytime we can avoid going to CMC's ER it is a good thing. Sometimes there has been a wait, (but it has never been as long as at CMC ER) sometimes not. The staff are all nice, and efficient and when you get into a room to be seen things seem to move along. Staff was demeaning, process was unprofessional, medical advice was bad. It's interesting to read that other reviewers were pressured to take an ambulance for a trivial condition when it was unneccesary. Our story: My partner had a small problem with her eye - probably got an irritant or something in it. After spending 15 minutes standing by the reception desk watching and listening as the person behind it fumble on the phone trying to determine our "insurance eligibility" (despite previously having assured us over the phone that we'd be covered), my partner was asked to twice sign an electronic signature tablet, despite not even being provided the documents she was ostensibly signing. We were verbally told that the first was a HIPPA release, the second a financial agreement. I can't imagine it's legal to take someone's signature without providing them the document, but she was in pain and hardly able to see, so she signed it just to move the process forward. Then, we went to a small room and waited (although not very long, so that was actually nice) for a physician's assistant to come in. The PA rapidly took my partner's vitals and then checked her vision. It was pretty obvious that there was no urgent medical situation. My partner is visibly pregnant, so the PA asked about that. As soon as we revealed that we had enlisted the services of a local, private midwife, the judgment started full steam. "What practice is your widwife with?!" "What do you mean you aren't having an ultrasound?!" ...and so on. Then, the PA leaves for a few minutes and comes back. Five Star urgent care doesn't have the equipment neccessary to diagnose an eye condition, we are now told. The PA wants us to take an ambulance to the ER, where we can have the eye pressure read and get an ultrasound and fetal doppler. We told them that we didn't want any of that, and now the threats started. "Well, if you don't, you'll have to sign out against medical advice and your insurance won't cover anything." We asked the PA to leave the room so that we could talk. It was obvious that they had spent their credibility and were trying to bilk us, so we left. They made us sign a form acknowledging that this irritated eye might lead to "death, disfigurment, or fetal demise" and that their opinion was that we needed medical transport. It was just transparently ludicrous. We stopped at Rite Aid on the way home and picked up some eye flush solution. Of course my partner is fine. Steer clear. These people are thugs. read more

Where to begin...Last July, I was suffering from fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and a sore throat, so I and my wife called the location to make sure our insurance would cover the visit to WellNow in Ithaca, since we live elsewhere, and didn't want to incur an unnecessarily high expense. We were assured that I would be covered, and would only owe my plan's ordinary co-pay of $50.00 for urgent care. I went, paid the co-pay, saw a doctor who diagnosed me with strep throat (turns out I had the flu as well as LEUKEMIA, but oh well...), and left. Imagine my surprise when my insurance company did not cover anything, and I found myself with a surprise bill of $150.00! WellNow has consistently refused to take any responsibility for their error/lie, but eventually offered to reduce my bill to $80.00, which after a time I decided I would pay to make this charade end. I never actually received this bill; instead, I heard from a collections agency, which was now trying to get the $150.00 out of me! I complained, was told the account would be pulled from collections, and that since I had never received a bill from WellNow for the $80.00, they would send me another one. That was about two weeks ago, and while I am still waiting to receive the new bill, I just got a harassing text message claiming I owe the brand new amount of $160.00, and threatening to send my account to collections. I complained about that, and was given some pathetic excuse. The gross incompetence and negligence on the part of every individual at WellNow, combined with this pattern of harassment and extortion has me thinking I would do better to sue them than to pay them anything at all. Do yourself a favor - If you need to see a doctor, go literally anywhere else. read more

Their website is a misleading bait and switch - they do NOT take "most major insurance" they take only localized insurers that look like they are affiliated, but they are not. So no Cigna, no blue cross. Cigna told me they had never heard of an urgent care that didn't take their insurance (they only take mvp/Cigna a local provider. read more

Overall, staff are super friendly and welcoming, but that is the only positive feedback I have for WellNow in Ithaca. Last fall I broke my hand and needed a doctor to examine it and have an x-ray taken. From what I could see, there were only 2-3 other patients in the clinic and I waited in my room for an hour before a physician saw me. Instead of helping me take my two jackets off, he insisted that he had to cut it. I decided to manage taking off layers by myself, though it would have been less painful if one of the staff assisted me. Even though reception verbally confirmed that my insurance (including the copay I paid at the desk) would cover this visit, I got a phone call a month later stating I haven't paid the remaining bill (which was a minor fee, but still frustrating). This was very misleading and I wish it would have been made clear at the beginning. I suggest moving forward that WellNow provides patients with a comprehensive explanation on what is covered immediately and what expenses patients should expect in the future. While this might require more training and time expenses on the staff's part, this would prevent unnecessary confusion for all parties in the long run. read more

By far one of the best healthcare visits I've ever had. The staff was kind as soon as you walk through the door. The facility itself is extremely comfortable. The LPN and NP were quick and friendly. The NP was very comfortable to be around and seemed genuinely kind and caring about her job. Overall, a much better option than Cayuga Med if you need to see someone right away. I walked away with a $0 copay. In and out in less than 20-30 minutes. read more
