I love the setting here. It has a classic old timey warm vibe without coming across as dated. Dishes I've really enjoyed are the blue crab hush puppies, Mexican street corn, zucchini hay stack, chicken and waffles and breakfast bowls. I also love that the complimentary bread is cinnamon rolls, muffins and such. The only dish I didn't care for was the Welsh Rarebit. I didn't dis-like it per se, just underwhelming in my personal opinion. I didn't get nearly as much of the Gouda cream sauce as the other plates I saw the waiters bringing out, and mine had way less than any of the pictures I'd seen of the dish online (the reason I ordered this in the first place), and I felt like I was just eating toast with a tablespoon of lobster. This review is for the clam bake that I went to last night as I have had great experiences in the actual restaurant. We arrived at 5:45pm and had to stand outside until the tent was open at 6pm. We were seated and got drinks as the tent began to get populated. After an hour seated we got our first course. Clam chowder. That was very good. We were served with one roll each. After about an hour and a half we were served mussels. Those were pretty good as well. At the two hour mark the clams came out. Those were much better. After another 30-40 minutes we got our meals. I got the lobster which was very good. The seating was very poor. Hard wooden event seats were uncomfortable for all of us. The noise in the tent was very loud. So the entire dinner was roughly a 3 hour and 20 minute event. The cost was pretty steep. With tip for 4 of us with one bottle of win, one mixed drink, one extra dozen of mussels and clams each along with the 4 meals and tip was $480.00. For that money I guess I would expect better, faster service and much better seating. This was a one time deal. One and done. read more

The Welshfield Inn was highly recommended to my wife by a friend of hers who knew my wife's birthday was coming up. My wife told me about the Welshfield Inn and I called to make reservations. It's about an hour from where we live but the distance isn't an issue if the venue is worth it. We visited the Welshfield Inn on 3/13/19 and it was fantastic. The Inn itself is charming. We were sat at a table near the fireplace and for the entire time we were there, two servers -- very, very nice ladies -- treated us like royalty and made my wife's birthday dinner a 5-star occasion. They were very attentive and made sure we always had water and soda refills quickly. The food was DELICIOUS and there was plenty of it. I had the prime rib (there was a special that night) and my wife had the Kielbasa. We ordered dessert to go because we were truly stuffed. I think it was the bowtie mousse cake. I dunno, because my wife snuck it at home and I didn't get to have any. I know, right?! Oh well, she's my sweet potato so I had to forgive her. If you're near Burton, or even if you're not, we highly recommend the Welshfield Inn. It's definitely worth the trip, and the prices are very reasonable. 5 stars all the way. read more

Had lunch with family today at Welshfield Inn. This place serves food worth every penny. You get your monies worth, and are satisfied with your meal. Not every restaurant lives up to the standard of Welshfield Inn. I had the Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti. You receive two chicken parmesan breast. I took one home for lunch tomorrow. It was excellent. My Wife had a Flat Iron Steak, and she enjoyed every bite. My Dad had the Beef Stroganoff, and cleaned his plate. My Mom had the Perch, which she brought home some of it. My Brother, and Sister-in-Law had the Walleye, which they finished. Both said it was very good. Lastly, a good friend of my Brother had a Turkey Melt sandwich, which he liked too. Overall this was a very enjoyable meal, and a restaurant that we will return to. read more

The mashed potatoes with the strip was... different. There's a glaze with the steak as well, personally not my flavor but still ok. The medallions were excellent. Had lunch today with a friend. Really enjoyed this restaurant. It was established in 1842. It was a nice day today they did serve on the back deck. We decided to eat in one of the dining rooms. I started with a small chopped salad with their house oregano vinaigrette dressing it was excellent. They also gave us a bread basket. For my meal I had their liver with onions and bacon served with mashed potatoes and green beans. If you love liver be sure to try theirs. A friend had a crock of French onion soup that look excellent. He also had their Braised beef & wild mushroom stroganoff. It also looked excellent. They have fresh perch and walleye which should be a great lunch choice.j Friendly staff. Really clean restrooms. A big parking lot. read more

I can't say enough good things about the Welshfield Inn and Driftwood. Obviously. I was hoping the 5 stars would. Maybe I should have expected this. Driftwood did cater our wedding, which they aced. So I should have expected something special with the Welshfield Inn. Then why didn't we visit to the Welshfield Inn earlier? Good question. I just assumed it was in the middle of nowhere. It was an assumption. I was wrong, sort of. It is in the middle of nowhere but easy to get to via 422. Ample parking. Crowded for a Thursday. Probably the most crowded place around. Their specials are actually very special. Wednesday is Prime Rib night, Thursday is wine, app, and 2 dinners for $44. They have specials every week night. That's what we did, and let's say it was more than expected. We had a bottle of Chardonnay and started with the hushpuppies. We received 5 hushpuppies as our appetizer and it was more than enough, and delicious. Fried just right and served with a cucumber sauce. My wife had beef stroganoff, which was adequate for dinner and lunch the next day. I went with the pot roast, and it was perfectly seasoned. It was shredded beef, rather than a whole slice of chuck, but it works well with the potatoes and carrots. The presentation was impeccable. We received 2 bread rolls and 2 cinnamon rolls before dinner. Needless to say, we both had leftovers. Our service was good, they have a service station for setting up to go bags and running credit cards. They also had a guitar player, who played 3 different guitars and set the mood for date night. The decor was what I would expect for being as close to Amish country as you can, but extremely homey in a positive way. Our next trip is already planned and it's Sunday brunch. My wife and I ate here Wednesday, June 7, 2023 to celebrate our anniversary. There is a beautiful outside patio area but it was a little chilly so we ate inside. we both had salads ( Chopped and Mackenzie). These were good. For her main course she had the Wednesday Prime Rib special. She ordered it medium rare and it came that way. It was not seasoned, but came with an au jus sauce and a horseradish sauce, both on the side. Neither very inspiring. The portion was very large. [note to self: next time see if they will serve it blackened] I had the Pork loin schnitzel. This was a very thin piece of pounded pork loin heavily breaded with panko and fried. Served with a bland Hollandaise sauce. Again, a large portion but uninspired. Hers came with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts which were fine. Mine came with asparagus. Since I did not want mashed potatoes I asked for rice. This was a brown rice and vegetable mix which was not good at all. Service was prompt, even seemed a little rushed. Hadn't eaten here for a while so we went for dinner yesterday. Since we didn't have reservations so we got there around 4:00 because we wanted to be seated in the main dining room, which is pleasantly decorated & has views outside. No one greeted us upon entry so we had to call out to get the attention of the ladies talking in the back to get seated. Our server was pleasant & efficient. The bread we received when we ordered was homemade & delicious, much better than last time we visited. I ordered the pork schnitzel with mashed potatoes & asparagus. My hubby ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes & crispy Brussels sprouts. I enjoyed the schnitzel & asparagus with delicious lemon hollandaise sauce but the potatoes were very dry. Hubby said his prime rib was medium rare just as he ordered but could have been more tender. He didn't like the peanuts in his Brussels sprouts & also said the potatoes were very dry. Not sure if we will return again. On a side note, the restaurant wasn't crowded yet so you could hear the staff laughing & joking around in the kitchen during our entire meal. I was so excited about trying brunch here! I hate that it was only 2 star service. We were sat right away, we ordered our coffee and it was brought out quickly. But, it had absolutely zero flavor. It was watered down and luke warm. I ordered the soup. Which was tomato basil and it was delicious. We ordered our meals and they came rather quickly. Nothing about our meals was good, I couldn't finish my eggs Benedict. The English muffin was rock hard, the egg was too done and the meat was rubbery. Three weeks ago, my wife made arrangements with two other college classmates, to meet for Sunday brunch. Since the gals (can't forget the hobbies who would be driving) were coming from all different directions, this was a central location. My wife called to check on the need for reservations. She was told that since patio seating was requested, reservations are not taken for outdoor seating, but there should not be any problem getting seats for the party of six. Four of us arrived at the same time and my wife checked for patio seating. The lady at the hostess stand at 11AM, asked for the reservation name. My wife started that she was told reservations are not taken for the patio but there should not be any problem. The hostess curtly started reservations were REQUIRED. Again my wife started what she was told, and the hostess said she would check. She came back and said very bluntly, she would seat us, but only this time, otherwise any other time RESERVATIONS were REQUIRED! She proceeded to get four settings when my wife said the party was six, but the remaining couple was not here yet. She then REPLACED the settings and said all members of the party MUST BE PRESENT to be seated. She said she "...would have to see if a party of six could be seated without reservations..." She left and came back, again with an attitude, and said she would seat four of us without the last couple present. At our table our server, Ashley, greeted us with a smile (even with a mask, you could sense her smile) and started taking the drink order, while waiting for our the late arrivals. Our friends arrived and sat down. Barb started that the hostess seemed a bit mifted when they inquired where we sitting. They joined us and almost immediately Ashley, came to the table to get the last drink order and brunch orders. First conversation? Yep, the hostess!! All of us professionally deal directly with customers/clients. Everyone started that this hostess should not be dealing with customers if her attitude today is her everyday attitude. Her complete opposite was our server, Ashley. She was fantastic; jokes with us and came back at us with perfect replies to our humorous statements. One of the BEST servers I have ever had! A great face for Welshfield Inn, unlike the first person that greats you!! This would have been a one star rating but our server and the food, saved Welshfield Inn from a terrible rating, all because of the hostess. We did two orders of the 2 for 44 deal as a takeout. We got the blacken salmon with brussel sprouts, fried perch with french frys and then two orders of the pot roast with mashed. Each of the two orders came with two appetizers and a bottle of wine. We got a chopped salad, caeser salad, two cups of tomato-basil soup, a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine. As a bonus there were 4 cinnamon buns and 4 dinner rolls. The dressing was on the side, as well as tarter sauce and an extra cheese and croutons. I've been here on several occasions and have found exceptional service and great food at each visit. The restaurant is so cozy, with fireplaces and beautiful woodwork. The dining areas are sectioned off like rooms in an old house so your dining experience is much more intimate. We had our wedding reception at the Welshfield Inn Banquet Center. Kathy was extremely helpful through the whole process. The reception was amazing. The staff was uber helpful. They actually seemed to be enjoying themselves. (Whether or not they were faking it is irrelevant!!!) We got a lot of compliments on the food from our guests. I was expecting the food to be less tasty than the food you are served when you are in the restaurant since they were cooking for a large group, but that was not the case. It was awesome! They even made us a few dishes not on their menu!!! I really felt as if I just said "This is what I want: blah, blah, blah" and when I showed up, everything was exactly the way I pictured it. Some of the wedding party and guests mentioned some really helpful things the staff did for them. The prices here are very reasonable for the service, atmosphere and quality you get. It was much less expensive than other places we looked at in Ohio. I don't even want to guess how much a wedding like this would cost where I live. The Welshfield Inn and the awesome staff on hand helped make this the best day of our lives. read more

Great restaurant in a converted century home setting I've only stopped in for lunch never dinner. I've have always been greeted at the door and the friendly staff always provided exceptional service. The place is all white cloth covered tables and is very nostalgic. They always have great lunch specials and the chef does an outstanding job with his food presentations. The portions and prices are a little high for the area but they deliver on quality. Lunch time the place is always filled with business people and it can accommodate small party for club meetings and there is always good amount of elderly people dressed nice and enjoying the atmosphere around a cozy fire or out on the patio weather permitting. This was always my go to spot for business lunches in the area and everyone always enjoyed the time spent here. There is a small bar area that is great for afternoon cocktails plenty of parking and easy access off of Route 422. I don't think you will ever be disappointed making this choice I would highly recommend giving them a try. read more

I made a dinner reservation for 2 at 5:45 on Friday and requested the patio. I was told that the patio was first come, first served. We arrived right on time and were told that the only table available outside was in the sun. We took it and as we were led outside to our table, we passed 2 empty umbrella tables. I asked our hostess if we could sit at one of them and she said "No, those are reserved." I repeated what I was told about no outside reservations. She stammered a bit and said that the people for those tables were already there-inside. After more than 25 minutes, one of the tables was filled and after 30 minutes the other one. There is NO way the diners were "waiting inside" for those tables. I would love to know why we were not seated when we were clearly "first come" Beware of this lie! read more

We have been coming here for 20 years. The food is fabulous. We love the 2 for $40 on Thursday's. My husband loves everything on the menu but his personal favorite is the beef liver. It is a rare menu find and he raves about it every time. My go to is the salmon, it has a creamy lobster sauce that I adore. Even when we have ventured on to other menu items they never disappoint. We have always had good service but this week we had a young lady named Brittany. She was sweet, very attentive and knowledgeable about a few new items on the menu. We just were at the Welshfield Inn this past weekend for a rehearsal dinner and the food was fabulous. The service was great and the atmosphere is very charming. This is pretty much in the middle of nowhere Ohio. As you look around outside you will see modern cars as well as horse and buggy's since you are in the largest Amish community in the world (fun fact for everyone. I am sure you were all dying to know that). The menu had a list of 5 meals all with sides to choose from. I choose the Chicken Picatta with asparagus and rice It was all cooked in a nice white wine sauce that was to die for. My husband got the pasta dish they offer and he said it was great as well just a very big portion. I had a few bites and it was quite good. The sauce was not overpowering but they include tons of fresh vegetables with the pasta. Overall it was a good dinner experience at a place I would have probably never visited on my own. read more

We had the lobster nachos and they were so good! The food here is never a disappointment. I also had the braised beef and it was so tender. The atmosphere is so calming and a great place to relax. We have never taken our girls here. I'm not sure they even have a kids menu but I did see some other older children there. We sat outside and it was a perfect night for it. The fish smelled fishy and son of a gun, tasted fishy. OLD! One piece was broken in half. The French fries were cold. The cole slaw was just cabbage and slaw sauce. No imagination. The food I brought home was inedible. After 30 years, I'm not driving to WI ever again. read more
