Let's just say this place exceeded all my expectations. The doctor is patient and experienced, and he is very honest with what you need. I am over 30 years old and I have two baby molars, X-ray shows there is nothing underneath them, so those baby teeth are definitely going to stay. Other places wanted me to remove those baby teeth and wear bracelets, I was given two choices: either remove both molars and use bracelets to push all teeth towards the center (which will cost me about 4 grand), or remove both molars, wear the bracelets and plant two more teeth (which will cost over 10 grand). They don't care about my pain or suffering, how inconvenient it would be for a 30 year old to wear bracelet for at least a year, they just want my money. Doctor Cheng told me there is nothing to worry about, those baby molars will stay, and he only charges $40 for a cleaning. I will definitely be back. You might not find a parking on the street (main st), but there are plenty of parking spaces on the back, or you can just park at BOA or Burlington in the next block and walk 100 feet. read more

2018 UPDATE: Been coming here for at least 3-4 years and they have not increased their cleaning fee of $40. I asked the doctor why, and he said they really want everyone to come in for cleanings because no one would have bigger dental problems. Really love that! Brought my husband for his first cleaning with them today too. I don't live in Alhambra, but this dentist is the only reason I make a trek out there! Have been coming here for years for routine cleanings. Found them via a pair of friends who also do same. I have had multiple types of health insurance in the past 5 years but even when I've had the highest form of insurance, paying out of pocket cash for their ridiculously affordable cleaning has always been cheaper than even my deductible! I haven't had any cavities or other teeth issues since childhood so I cannot comment on other procedures, but as far as cleanings go- I will always make an effort to drive all the way to Alhambra for this no frills, honest dentist. Best tooth cleaning I've ever had. The dentist showed me the areas I needed to clean better first. Then he proceeded to go to work. The result was great. Good dentist overall. Dr. Cheng is friendly and runs a 'two-man' show with his dental assistant in his office. I come here for my bi-annual teeth check-up & cleaning. This is not the "Factory Assembly" type of dental office where they take as many patients as they could, all on the same appointment time so as to make more profit (and you sit in the waiting room forever). That's why I like Dr. Cheng, he's not greedy. He charges a reasonable, if not cheap, fee for teeth cleaning if you don't have insurance. Another good point on him. One thing though, don't get him 'started' on political conversation (especially about China); otherwise he'll keep on going and going. Other than this, he's a nice and honest guy. Like most people, I avoid going to the dentist at all costs but I needed my annual check up and my parents recommended Dr. Cheng. I've been to quite a few dentists over the years and I have to say my experience with Dr. Cheng really changed my mind about dentists! I did not have to wait for my appointment and he is incredibly honest and a total expert at what he does. I felt totally comfortable and happy after my cleaning (especially because there was nothing wrong with my teeth). I am never changing dentists now that I've found Dr. Cheng! I visited Dr. Cheng after reading the positive Yelp reviews and went to him for my first root canal. After taking an initial look in my mouth, he laughed. I was born with some missing teeth due to a deformity. He was the first medical professional to point that out and laugh - first red flag. I brushed it off and proceeded to have him treat me anyway. He treated my root canal in 3-4 visits (I opted to have it treated at a general dentist, but should have gone to an endodontist immediately). Ultimately he encountered an issue where he admitted he did not have the capability/equipment to treat, so I finished off the treatment at an endodontist he referred me to (who was excellent). Dr. Cheng did not charge me for the work he did prior to the endodontist; he stated he doesn't charge for work he cannot complete, which I thought was honest. But, I did not see why he needed to extend my treatments across multiple visits when his calendar wasn't full. I went back to him for a crown, which took an additional visit because the first crown cracked during the fitting/bite test (another red flag). 2 years later, the second crown cracked. A crown is supposed to last at least 5 years. Needless to say, I did not return to him to have it replaced. Instead, I went to another dentist who stated that the previous work done by Dr. Cheng was executed poorly and the methods were "old-school". I am not surprised, seeing as the equipment Dr. Cheng was using seemed dated (e.g. dental x-rays take forever). There was also a small cavity found in the tooth, which means that the crown was not sealed well. This dental office is not busy at all, and now I see why. Please learn from my experience and look for a different professional. read more

I am always happy to pay a visit here! I am 61 years old and have seen many dentists in my life. The cleaning process was very detailed and meticulous, unlike my previous experience with dentists, when they use tools in a forceful manner to pick and scratch at my teeth. Although the process took slightly longer than expected, I did not feel bored at all because Dr. Cheng was entertaining and shared an abundance of information on how to take good care of my teeth. The price was also very reasonable. I visited this time around because I bit something hard, which caused my tooth to chip. I drove 6 hours from the Bay Area to see Dr. Cheng for a crown, and the temporary denture he provided was very sturdy and I was able to eat all kinds of foods without any issues. When he put the crown tooth on, there was no further cutting or sanding required - it was a perfect match. I asked him why that was so, and he explained that he had already done a lot of work prior to putting it on my tooth. I feel at ease knowing that I will not have to suffer through the poor experiences I've had with my past dentists. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Dr. Cheng! read more

I used to hate going to the dentist cause it always seems like they want to carve your mouth out while you are knocked out by unknown fumes. However once I started coming to this dentist I was at ease and way more motivated to have clean perfect teeth. Thanks to the GREAT attitude and patience he had with me. I come here every half year for check ups and he still remembers our convos from the last time I saw him. Talk about a great conversationalist! He is gentle with my teeth and my gums never bleed. My teeth came out feeling great and perfectly clean. I don't have insurance anymore, however I wouldn't mind coming here to pay for a teeth cleaning session. read more

I've long been a user of yelp, but not a contributing reviewer. When I saw the post by the previous reviewer, I decided its time to chime in. I have a different view of healthcare practitioners than the last reviewer. For example, if I go to physician, I want an honest diagnosis. Save the horse and pony show for someone else. I know well that if you go to a physician, a physician who is a shrewd (but dishonest) businessman will write a prescription for you everytime, even if the best treatment is nothing but time. He'll do that because he knows patients may feel like they wasted their money if they don't get a prescription. Dentistry is no different. Some dentists will fiddle with your teeth for hours on end so you think you get your money's worth. Others will even go so far as to state that you have countless cavities to drum up business, but that you shouldn't worry about it because insurance will cover it. Forget that. If I don't have cavities, don't tell me that I do just so you can increase your revenues and make me feel like I am getting a lot of service. Sometimes less is more. In recognition of that, and in recognition that the treatment should fit the malady, Dr. Cheng provides just the right amount of service. No upselling, and he certainly has no incentive to say you don't need any work when you in fact do. I have been visiting Dr. Cheng as my dentist for several years now, and actually worry about how I will find another honest dentist if I move or if he one day chooses to retire. Even when I moved away for several years, I continued to use Dr. Cheng as my dentist by visiting him when I was in town. You guys make your own decisions. Great dentist! The prices here are fair and the work is really high quality. Dr. Cheng knows each of his patients well. I read the earlier post... Its a smaller office with a smaller staff, so perhaps there may have been a delay, but I've been going to Dr. Cheng for years and have never had any timing issues. read more
