I LOVE this place for brunch or lunch. Its a much needed addition to Tennyson. The desserts are calling your name as you walk in the door. They serve their cappuccino in a rocks glass. Glass conducts heat too well, we couldn't drink them hot because we were unable to hold the glass. Just plain stupid. Our food took over 30 minutes to come out. After 20 minutes the manager said it would be another 8 minutes. Apparently they lost our ticket or never put it in. When the food finally arrived it was decent. Nothing spectacular, just decent. Certainly not worth the wait. And the restyling of the interior is sterile and unimagined. The server didnt know how to handle the situation but at least the manager did apologize and provided us a discount. We were grateful the excessive wait was not ignored. We do miss DJ's. read more

I've been a fan of Wendell's since they opened last year. The first few times I had a really great meal. The staff is always friendly, so I'm sad the quality of food has gone down hill. Today everyone in our group (4 people) left something on their place untouched because it wasn't very good. I left the dry sourdough. It didn't come with any butter or jam. I had to ask for my side of greens (which was soggy and had bad pieces of lettuce) because my new York Benedict (on a burnt bagel) had accidentally been plated with (flavorless) hash browns. Apparently there's a new head cook in the kitchen, which they should think of replacing. My friend's eggs were hard and rubbery when she had asked for soft scrambled. The other person we were with left half her steak Benedict because it was bland and wasn't worth eating. We all ordered the pancake of the week (chocolate mousse ricotta) hoping to fill the hunger and leave on a good note. We each took a bite and left the whole pancake. The ricotta tasted spoiled & the pancake was salty. I tried to choke it down with my cold brew (which was really just a $5 iced coffee). I was really disappointed in our experience. Best breakfast in Denver! Being from New England, if there's one things that I miss from the northeast, it's breakfast. This is the only breakfast/brunch spot in Denver that delivers quality on the level I grew up with. My favorite dish is the Powerhouse, A stacked plate of my favorite breakfast foods: sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, potatoes, tomatoes, all cooked to perfection. Came here on a Saturday for my friends birthday brunch. It took a bit to get drinks. A few friends ordered the regular chai & it was less than good, basically whole milk lightly tinted by a small amount of chai with barely any flavor. I got the almond milk chai which was good and made correctly. Mixed drinks were on par. We had a larger group and the waiter we had that day was helpful but would disappear for a while so it was difficult to ask questions about the menu or order additional drinks. We had to go in at the end to request someone bring our checks. The food: excellent! I was nervous about ordering some based on the reviews but because we had a large group of 8 almost everyone got something different and all really enjoyed it. Nothing was burnt. Everything was brought out hot and the flavors were delicious. I had the pancake of the week, gluten free and it was amazing! I also ordered a side of eggs and tried the mushrooms. The creamy mushrooms on their own, not my favorite, but within another dish probably go well. I was so hungry by the time food came out I totally forgot to take a picture. 4 stars due to the slightly lacking service from our waiter and the awful chai. read more

I just received the worst service, possibly ever. We ordered two chicken fried steaks. One of them took an extra 15 minutes to come out after the other food at the table had been delivered. Both of the chicken fried steaks were extremely over fried and grey. They were unable to cut through and unlike any other chicken fried steak I have ever ordered for breakfast. After the one plate took 15 minutes to come out, that was brought out by the chef. The server never came back to check on us, our coffees were never refilled, the proper silverware was not distributed, and when extra condiments were requested they never came back with them. When talking to the owner about how displeased with our service we were, she made several backhanded comments basically asking us to do their job for them. Making constant excuses how short staffed they were and how she couldn't get anyone to come in for interviews. As two people who have been working in the service industry for well over a decade, I could not believe how I was treated by our server and the owner. There was no "customer is always right" mentality and after speaking with the server and the owner their attitudes got worse and made us feel like we were completely in the wrong for being displeased. I felt really bad not leaving a tip for our server because we completely understand that they live on tips, but nothing was offered to make us leave as happy customers and only one plate was taken off our bill leaving us still with a $70 bill for a disgusting breakfast and horrible experience. I will never show my face in this establishment ever again unless I show up to literally do their jobs for them. read more

We started out at Revelry and were told it would be an hour and thirty minutes so we came here out of proximity. The Bloody Mary was flavorless and had a soggy piece of bacon in it, neither of us were impressed by the food nor the service, and the atmosphere was so loud it was impossible to have a conversation. I don't understand why they say they have vegan options when they really don't!!! They had one veggie sandwich which I was okay with because we all know fries is any vegan's best-friend so, as a vegan if all fails i'll order fries and a salad! I ordered their veggie sandwich and shoestring fries. I was so excited about my fries 20 mins later the waitress comes out with my sandwich and a side of greens full of oil and she said I couldn't do the fries nor the hash browns because there is a cross contamination they use the same oil to make their pork belly!!! She didn't even come and ask me if I was okay with the greens or if I wanted to even eat there she just brought my food and said this is what we have so basically deal with it! I don't even understand why they make their fries in the same oil they make their meats not everyone is okay with that even if they weren't vegan! Wendell's sits on the iron throne of brunch places in Denver. The low-key rustic decor will charm the socks off of you. Our waitress Lindsey was a delight & couldn't have accommodated me and my mimosa drinking friends better. Not sure if she was laughing with us or at us, but either way was one of our favorite servers we've ever had in Denver - SLAY KHALEESI. Speaking of mimosas, their apple juice mimosa or half grapefruit & orange juice combo were so refreshing. I know apple juice... weird - but don't knock it till you try it. Which you must. Now on to the food - their menu makes it hard to choose because everything sounds so freakin' good. Hopefully you go when Chef Boyle is working because he's THE MAN. I'd bend the knee for his waffles any day. We were those people who requested all 4 flavors of toppings on one waffle - he was a trooper and executed it perfectly. He even came out to greet us & see for himself what crazy (yet awesome) people dreamt up this creation. The scramble & french toast were just as tasty. So tasty we were all passing around spoons... the potential mono we may get was definitely worth it. We then watched him go around the room and check in on people to see if his cooking was making others smile. Which, duh. Hats off to you Lindsey & Ed. I ordered the 'Black & White' French toast, which seemed elaborate in writing (chocolate & orange ginger dipped brioche) though was not anything like the description. Not sure what the "white" part of the meal was, but the entire piece of toast was definitely black (burnt). Didn't taste any chocolate and it was two average pieces of bread just on a plate. Had to get a snack after as this lack luster amount of food was not satisfying. I will give them the benefit of the doubt since they're fairly new to the brunch game, but hopefully this review will help them spice up that plate. Came on a Sunday afternoon and were told about 15 min for a table. Which was really odd bc it was pretty empty...anyways we get sat outside as requested. It took about 10 min for the waitress and waters...which it was hot out so it probably annoyed me more than it should. I ordered a bloody and bf ordered a nitro coffee. The bloody was so pathetic. There was just no body to the drink and it came with a piece of celery and 1 olive. Just sad. My bfs coffee was watered down and def not worth the price. For food I got a scramble and bf got chicken fried steak. My scramble was not even a bit warm otherwise it probably would have tasted ok. I will say the brioche toast was good. Bfs chicken fried steak was again cold and completely overcooked and tough. Also who knew chicken fried steak could be so bland. This place is awesome. Very chic and the patio is amazing and so pretty. Coffee was really good. Just FYI they only have coconut milk creamer as an alternative. The wait was a little long but they've only been open for 2 weeks I overheard. They have options for vegetarians but be aware the hash browns are cooked in a meat oil we were told after the hash browns came out, but they can make them vegetarian, which they did. I ordered a veggie scramble which was really good but it wasn't a lot of food. Came with some toast and greens on the side and I just think I was expecting more eggs on the plate. I was sad when DJ's went dark suddenly, but Wendell's makes an even better breakfast, which I didn't think was possible. They've also made the atmosphere more inviting and open. Super bummed this spot has gone downhill. Used to LOVE this place, moving from Brooklyn, it was one of a few in the area that had a good vibe, great food and great service. Went this Sunday (mothers day) and the poor staff (who I do not blame) had not enough people there to help them. We waited over 2 hours to get seated (were told 45 minutes, then 10 so kept us staying) then took over 40 to get served. My husband had to wait at least 30 min for his cup of coffee. Then - the food came out. I wouldn't have written this review if the food were good. The pancake was good, but the egg, hashbrowns, and toast I got looked like something from a Dennys. Wendell's used to have awesome scrambles and bread, and great brunch cocktails. Simple stuff, but quality. You'd think the manager would have came out and gave us a coffee refill or something. Nope. I was a big fan of DJs so I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere and patio and service are all on point. The place is absolutely beautiful, but beauty is only skin deep and the prices and food leave so so much to be desired. First the prices are super steep. I lived in the Bay Area and the prices here are comparable. They charge $5 for practically a shot glass of juice and nickel and dime you on little upcharges which should come standard when you are paying premium prices like that. Want to upgrade to premium maple syrup? It'll cost you. Want jam for your dry toast? That's $1. Are you kidding me? When they said they charged for jam I was so shocked and appalled I almost thought they were kidding at first. No thank you. The scramble was decent. My husbands French toast was two tiny pieces of completely burnt toast on a plate. It was the most unappetizing and unsatisfying thing I have ever seen in my life and he had to go get something to eat after his $15 French toast. With so many other options in the neighborhood that offer free jam for their toast (which is everywhere but Wendell's), there is no reason for us to come back here. read more
