I actually spotted Butcher Block Cafe while we were driving to where we were staying because it had that classic little hole in the wall look that I always end up loving. Later I asked AI to find me a great breakfast spot that wouldn't break the bank, and this place was the number one recommendation. Holy shit... this is one of the best breakfasts, if not the best breakfast I've ever had. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The pancakes were warm, fluffy, and so good they honestly had me wanting to come back every single morning. They're also famous for their homemade cinnamon roll, and now I know why. It was absolutely massive, covered in butter, and did not dissapoint. The real secret star though is the breakfast burrito. Stuffed with meat, eggs, hash browns, and cheese, then topped with their homemade green chili gravy. Holy moly... that gravy is a work of art. I don't even know how to describe it other than I wanted to drink it. The flavor is unbelievable. I ended up eating breakfast here every day of our trip, which is something I literally never do while traveling because I like trying different places. Now here's the crazy part... the prices. This place feels like home and the prices match. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw breakfast this affordable. It feels like stepping back 10 or 15 years. Five people could have a filling breakfast here for about what two people would spend at First Watch or a lot of the trendy breakfast places. The staff was friendly, the food came out fast, and the whole place just has that comfortable local diner feeling that is getting harder and harder to find. Overall, I'll be eating here every single time I visit Denver no matter how far out of the way it is. This place is a national treasure and needs to be protected at all costs. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to spend way too much time trying to recreate that green chili gravy at home... I already know I won't get it right, but I'm gonna try anyways. read more

Our last day in Denver was topped off by stopping at the butcher block Cafe breakfast. I had a breakfast sandwich which consisted of toast a sausage. I LOVE this cafe. I usually try to go for breakfast! The staff is AMAZING! The cinnamon rolls might be more amazing (; The food comes out quick, hot and tastes fresh! I love how personable all the employees are while still being quick on their feet and getting everything done in a timely manner. After 3:30 you can get a burger and fries for like $5 !!! Ashley was fantastic! Earlier in the day we stopped off to drop off our luggage. Yes you read right. They have a service called Luggage Hero (yes they were our hero!). We dropped off our luggage for a small fee & we were able to enjoy walking around town. We came back later in the evening to pick up our luggage & decided to have one of their homemade cinnamon rolls (family owned recipe). It was absolutely delicious! I was so excited to try this spot. The reviews looked promising but that was where it ended sadly. As you walk in it gives you a classic diner feel. But something was off. I set myself at a table and noticed that a couple of people after me were told by a server to go to another side of the room. So I decided to wait there and see what happened and why she ushered what seems to be her regulars to the other side. After a bit of a wait a server finally approached me. I had been waiting a while and let him know and so I was glad that I was being helped because I thought I was in the wrong section. He gives me the menu and goes up to the counter and that is when I noticed that he messed with his nose, his mouth, and was rubbing on his face before and after being on his phone. And then he proceeded to adjust his pants and his shirt so much that I could see a good 6 in of his back. When he came back to ask me if I was ready to order I let him know that I saw him adjust his clothes and mess with his face and nose and I was hoping that he would be washing his hands. He said yes, and I assume that he was going to go to wash his hands immediately after our conversation but he did not. He then took out his pen and notepad and proceeded to take the order of another person at the counter instead of washing his hands. So, I decided that I didn't want to eat there because he did not take 2 seconds to wash his hands after I had called him out on not washing his hands after touching on his nose and his face and his mouth, to which he decided to only explain why he adjusted his clothes after I called him out about it. It completely took my appetite away and I told him that I would just be heading out. And did not get the what looked to be yummy Cinnamon rolls. I also thought that it would be too weird to ask to go to the section of the server who seem to be amazing. So sad. I'm from out of town and so obviously I won't be able to go back anytime soon. But not sure if ever. 3 stars for the server who cared and the possibility of what looked to be amazing food. read more

It's good, loaded with cinnamon and sugar, definitely enough to share. I'm more of a cream cheese frosting fan myself, but for the price and portion says I would order it again. I came early on Thursday morning just after 6am. I could smell the cinnamon rolls from the parking lot. A good sign. Even though they open at 5am, I was the only customer at 6am. The inside is typical diner decor reminiscent of the 1960's. Very clean with no adverse smells. Nice large printed & laminated menu. No QR codes. I chose the cinnamon roll straight off. Then I got a veggie 3 egg omelet smothered with their vegetarian green chili & home fries. I also got buttered rye toast with jelly and coffee. They use whole milk instead of creamer. The cinnamon roll was loaded with cinnamon and slightly gooey. A dollop of butter on top. Not overglazed. Only $4!!. The vegetable omelet was well stuffed and the green chili had a bit of heat. This is a typical diner establishment and it was bustling. The ladies at the front counter were very welcoming and took my order and prepped it right away.
