This time I sat in the dining room... completely different experience. Order & food: * I asked for tater tots and got fries instead. It took so long just to get a soda that I didn't bother sending them back. * Fries: over-salted and generic -- nothing special. * Tater tots: still the move here. Don't skip them. * Jalapeño burger (with the jalapeño popper puck + added cheese): flavor idea is good, but the build was sloppy. * Shredded lettuce/tomato made it messy * Nobody asked temp -- it came out overdone Service & seating: * Sat at a handicapped table, which felt awkward. * Service in the dining room was slow and inconsistent: long wait for drinks, minimal check-ins, no follow-up. * The vibe felt off -- even basic interactions felt different than what I've had at the bar. I didn't wait around for dessert or anything -- paid the tab, tipped what matched the service, and left. Bottom line: This place isn't one experience -- it's two. The Brussels were sliced, the balsamic glaze was really great. The short rib came on sourdough and I had low expectations: usually short rib on sandwiches (in my experience) is either dry or soaks through the bread, this sandwich was perfect! The short rib was really tender and flavorful, the bread was toasted but still soft. Perhaps the unsung hero of the meal were the fries and the malt vinegar aioli! The fries were incredible and the accompanying aioli was perfectly tangy, we couldn't stop eating them in spite of being full. Overall we were really pleased with our meal! The kind that's super crumbly and has little crunchy bits and craggles. So, scrolling through Doordash, I stumble upon the beauties they serve at Gino's. When I tell you these were the crispiest, most seasoned, delicate, crunchiest onion rings I've had, I mean it. Truthfully. My god. Sure I might have paid extra because it was Doordash *and* because I paid a long distance fee (Gino's is about 10 miles away from where I live in Arnold), but I would *gladly* pay extra to have this delivered to my house. Like... even not piping hot due to the travel time these onion rings slapped. I also got the "super Gino's burger" -- not gonna lie, the menu is a tad confusing online and maybe the experience is easier to discern between this and the regular "big Gino" in person at the restaurant. However, the patties are cooked to order and they use real beef. Tasted like a burger you would get at a family cookout with all the fixings and not a generic fast food burger. I also appreciate that they took the time to read the special requests on my order which means the service there is top notch. I started with the cream of crab soup. The portion was solid and there were huge chunks of crab throughout, which I definitely appreciated. However, the base itself just wasn't to my liking. The crab was there, but the flavor profile didn't quite hit for me. For my entrée, I ordered the oyster platter with two sides -- regular fries and coleslaw -- and added a shrimp basket because when you're at a seafood spot, you might as well go all in. The meal definitely satisfied my hunger, but if I'm being honest, it tasted more boxed and frozen than freshly battered. That homemade, crispy, just-dropped-in-the-fryer feel wasn't quite there. On the bright side, the fries were good -- hot, crisp, and dependable. The coleslaw was exactly how I like it: balanced, not too sweet, not too heavy on the mayo. Where they truly shine is customer service. The staff was accommodating, friendly, and very helpful throughout the visit. Service can make or break a dining experience, and they definitely delivered on that front.
