Pulled up to Bahama Mike's Seafood on a regular weeknight, and first impressions absolutely matter. The place was spotless. And I mean spotless. If you walked in blind, you honestly wouldn't even guess they specialize in seafood -- that's how clean and fresh the environment felt. Major points for that alone. Now let's get into the food. I started with the cream of crab soup. The portion was solid and there were huge chunks of crab throughout, which I definitely appreciated. However, the base itself just wasn't to my liking. The crab was there, but the flavor profile didn't quite hit for me. For my entrée, I ordered the oyster platter with two sides -- regular fries and coleslaw -- and added a shrimp basket because when you're at a seafood spot, you might as well go all in. The meal definitely satisfied my hunger, but if I'm being honest, it tasted more boxed and frozen than freshly battered. That homemade, crispy, just-dropped-in-the-fryer feel wasn't quite there. On the bright side, the fries were good -- hot, crisp, and dependable. The coleslaw was exactly how I like it: balanced, not too sweet, not too heavy on the mayo. Where they truly shine is customer service. The staff was accommodating, friendly, and very helpful throughout the visit. Service can make or break a dining experience, and they definitely delivered on that front. Overall, while this visit didn't completely wow me food-wise, the cleanliness and service alone are enough for me to give them another shot. Right when we walked in, the employees were so friendly! A couple of us got the crab stacker, I highly recommend! It was an amazing crab cake with a soft shell crab on top. So full of flavor!! Homemade desserts from cakes to cookies, and slices of decadent cheesecakes, fill the case and by the register. My casual no rush visit was deeeelicious! I sampled the Bay Bridge burger, a savory morsel of the oysters, and plump blackened shrimp tacos everything was tasty! You have the option to add seasoning to your fries, and a light shake over the island fries was yummy! Both sweet potatoes and island fries were crisp and piping hot. Not limpy and score! This was the best decision I made on Saturday!! Everytime I drive past this place, I always make a mental note to stop there. This time, I finally gave it a try and boy am I glad I did. The waitresses and cashier were extremely helpful and kind. They were welcoming and made me feel at home. The food was out of this world!!! Quality seafood and crab cakes at their finest. This has always been my favorite place for seafood in the area. Today I got the stuffed salmon with jumbo lumps of crab and topped with imperial sauce. It was very delicious! I don't know who Mike is never met him, but the food at this restaurant is fabulous. We did seem to wait a while however the taste of this fantastic meal offset that inconvenience. Our waitress was respectful and very kind. She brought me an extra Coke. We didn't have to wait for anybody to take care of us. They seem to be always there, but not intrusively so. The torch has been passed Best Crabcakes and Best codfish cakes around period point blank. I literally grew up on a crabbing boat of Hoopers Island so I don't wanna hear all the woo woo woo Bahama. Mike's is doing it right on crabcakes. I was pleased to see codfish cakes in stock so I tried one. I walked back up to the counter and bought four more if you're not hip to this place, get right!!! I was blown away again and again. And the funnel fries come on man so good. I grabbed a piece of fresh baked pineapple upside down cake come on man why was it so moist and flavorful? Couldn't stop there had to try the half-and-half Maryland crab soup, and thank goodness I did sheesh is all I gotta say! 10/10 as far as pricing goes some may think pricing is high however market price for such good seafood. We ordered five small crab balls and they were about the size of a golf ball. They were $31.00. They were good but that is not a lot of crab cake for $31.00 bucks. They come with what tasted like hot honey sriracha sauce on top and a dipping sauce that adds some extra flavor. Decided on the blackened fish tacos. Didn't really taste the blackened seasoning all that much but it was still tasty and cooked just right. Sides that I choose were the hush puppies and macaroni salad. Hush puppies were fried perfectly! The macaroni in the macaroni salad were a little too mushy for me. I don't understand all the positive reviews. Shouldn't a seafood restaurant in Anne Arundel County have fresh seafood? I ordered the fried cod, my wife the fried clams. Both were clearly frozen, not fresh at all. The sides were ok to poor. Canned green beans, fresh broccoli at least, mediocre steak fries and mac and cheese. I would like to give this place 5 stars but they failed big time on value. Service was great (counter service), staff was attentive, the place was very clean and the food was very good but pricing seems out of line. I had the stacker sandwich platter (soft shell crab on a crab cake) and it was very good. It came with 2 sides which were pretty skimpy, literally 6 smallish onion rings and a small serving of potato salad - $30 ($24 for just the sandwich). As others have said, this is a great place for casual dining. You basically order at the counter and they bring your meal to your table. I might add that on the day we visited, the young woman that took our order and delivered our meal to our table followed up no less than three times to make sure we had everything we needed and to clear our finished dishes as needed. They do have outdoor seating but the day we visited, it was a bit too chilly for that. Our group ordered a couple of different things and I don't think anything was bad! We had the crabcake platter with steak fries and coleslaw, soft crab sandwich with mac and cheese and macaroni salad, shrimp and corn chowder, cream of crab soup. crab cake eggrolls and onion rings. Definitely get the coleslaw and macaroni and cheese as your sides! Been to Bahama Mike's several times. All we should treat especially the staff. Each and every one of them are so respectful so pleasant courteous and helpful! Their staff is second to none. However, when our visit yesterday my daughter got the crab cake platter I got the broiled fish tacos with tilapia. The first time since we've been going there we were not happy. What's the price of crabs and crab meat bean what it is, one would expect items made with crab would be exceptional. Although her crab cake was acceptable in size, it was very dry and bland. Had she not asked for Old Bay, it would have had no taste at all. But there was nothing she could do about it being so dry. My tacos were good little messy but hey that's how they're supposed to be. Didn't want to complain there because one almost feels guilty complaining to one of the staff who are just exceptional and go out of their way to be pleasant. Will we go back? I'm sure of it. The location was convenient, free parking, in and outdoor seating, The menu and pictures displayed of the menu items were all "drool worthy". It didn't take long to choose what we wanted. Calamari, 1 Chesapeake Club and 1 Crabstacker sandwich w/ sweet potato fries and coleslaw. The bread on that Crabstacker was so buttery and the meat melted in your mouth. I was impressed. To add to the delicious food, the employees, as well as the dining patrons all made a great impression. You could tell from the ambiance that this business is revered in the community. The location was extremely clean and pleasant. The food I ate dinning in, clam basket with fries and cole slaw was delicious and perfectly fried without being greasy. Honestly, I'm extremely picky about Cole slaw and seldom order it while eating out but it was much like my homemade slaw (a tad on the sweet side with carrots and well chopped). I ordered the crab cake sandwich, the steak & cheese sub, fish & chips, the tuna platter with onion rings & hush puppies, and the chicken tenders with Mac & Cheese. Will let you know what my family thinks later. The young lady who took my order deconstructed the dishes so I couid make the 45 min drive home without the food getting soggy. For desserts I ordered the following: Carrot cake (moist with a nice balanced flavor but the star on the cake was the icing, I think it has a hint of coconut but no flakes) Chocolate cake w/peanut butter icing (lovely moist cake balanced with really good peanut butter icing that wasn't overly sweet so you could appreciate the PB & Chocolate together) Lemon cake (moist but my least favorite as it has a slight artificial lemon flavor) Apple Cinnamon Cake (probably better if you like apples but it didn't do much for me) Chocolate brownie with mint icing (decent moist brownie but the icing was too sweet for me). After driving past Bahama Mike's everyday for the last few years, I finally gave them a try yesterday. I am so glad I did! I placed my order via phone for pick up and the girl who took the order was very friendly. The order was ready a few minutes later than quoted but it was no big deal. I had the chicken salad platter with the hush puppies and green beans. The hush puppies were delicious and never made it home because I ate them on the way! The chicken salad wasn't bad but also was not spectacular. They are a seafood place so I cannot complain. I ordered my husband the 1/2 lb crab cake platter with onion rings and coleslaw. There was nothing left on his plate so I guess that speaks for itself! We also tried some of the boneless Old Bay wings which were good. Make sure if you like dipping sauces with your wings you request it because they do not automatically include it. We also ordered a kid's meal chicken tenders with friends. I've been seeing a friend of mine post about Bahama Mike's and we have passed it many times, but during this Covid business, we are all finding different ways to *dine out*, but in our home. Their page came up in my Facebook feed this morning as they were running a crabcake with imperial sauce special. Looked amazing. When I was trying to think of something for dinner, my husband said *Why don't we try Bahama Mike's*. LOL, sounded really good to me! I ordered our meal. I got the crabcake with macaroni salad and cole slaw and my hubby got the crab stacker sandwich. We got down to the shop, young man brought food to the car and we were off to home. While I'm sure our food would have been great if we were dining in there, we had to drive it from Glen Burnie to Catonsville. Still all in all, it wasn't horrible. Temperature, considering we were doing the speed limit was still warm. My crabcake was amazing! Some filler, but definitely blue crab. Pretty large....at least 10 ounces! Loved the sauce on it. The accompanying salads were very good. My husband really enjoyed his crabstacker....he said the crabcake was full and the soft shell crab was tender and the whole sandwich was perfectly seasoned. He also enjoyed the cole slaw. The hush puppies were cool and dry....I tasted them and wasn't necessarily impressed. I'm pretty sure we would enjoy dining in, but at this precarious time in our lives, we are just going to have to settle with dining out in our homes. Just off a flight into BWI and had a hankering for some seafood that had outdoor seating. Bahama Mike's is about a 15 minute drive and it did not disappoint. Plenty of patio seating, socially distanced and terrific staff started our dine in experience off great. A wide selection of both land and water entrees are available, but obviously their seafood is the reason to dine in. We went with the Garden salad with blackened shrimp, fresh salad and plenty of large shrimps; I did the crab cake platter with green beans and my fave, hush puppies.
