Wendy's (Store No. 3224). I know some of my fellow Yelpers choose to avoid fast-food chain restaurants, including Wendy's, and that is OK. It takes all kinds.... For those Yelpers who are inclined to dine at Wendy's, I can tell you that I have been dropping in on this store, on South Commercial Street, for more than 30-years, and I don't ever remember being disappointed. Usually, I order through the Wendy's App - which I highly recommend - and go through the drive-thru. Service was fast and courteous, very no contact, and the food was delivered very quickly. I haven't been inside since the pandemic, but the outside of the store, especially the landscaping, is neat and well cared for. Today, because it is cold and rainy in Salem, I ordered my favorite, the "Award Winning" Large Rich & Meaty Chili with Sweet Onions ($3.99, 390 calories), no Saltines. Ordered through doordash about 3 times over the last 5 months probably 7 over the last 6+ months. Every. Single. Time. They forget something. I go to both Wendy's in Salem and the S Commercial is particularly excellent in their service, inside & out(drive-thru). They are very attentive and the bathrooms are clean(I always treat myself after a Dr appointment and at 72 I have a lot that are in Salem(I live in Keizer). Anyway, I like the many menu items, the quick service and esp the quality of the food and I order a lot of stuff (Chili, etc)which needs their special hot sauce, crackers, onions, sour cream, etc. I often go inside eat the hot fries and chili/& drink so I can get my ketchup/salt at my leisure and take the sandwich/nuggets/or whatever home. They are so busy but do a great job and I like the small size frosty, too. Can't have too much sugar you know....Keep up the good work! read more

I'm in the drive thru right now...pulled over to wait on food. That's not my issue with them. We have never eaten at Wendy's and they have a sign saying they are serving breakfast right now. We get to the drive thru intercom and the lady confirmed they still have breakfast at 10:30am. But, there is no breakfast menu up. I said I don't know what to order. The lady said, "We have everything." I said I have never been here before, so I don't know what you have. She repeated, "We have everything." What the F is everything??? I repeated, "I don't know what everything is...what can I order." She names off things like baconator...I mean come on. What's a baconator? I'd never been there before so it's like naming off stuff isn't helpful at all without telling me what's in it. Anyway, I just said I want a croissant with eggs and cheese and sausage in it. So she reads off a price, and tells us to come to the window. We get to the window and hand over our card to a guy. The lady behind him tells my husband to put his cigarette out. It was already out. The car was still smoky. Then she tells him to move his car to the front door where I am typing this. I'm super annoyed...also, we just got our food. No straw. He kept telling her to calm down despite her already being reasonable. Both just wanted to be right. Everything was hot, fresh, but I would have enjoyed my salad better if the dressing it was supposed to come with was put in the bag. I'd suggest no matter how much you order, sit at the window, take out everything in your bags & make sure they remembered to give you everything you ordered. I had ordered my meal on the app, and according to that it was reveived and just needed to be picked up at the drive through window. When I got to the drive through, they couldn't find my order. I asked if I could pull up to the window and show them my phone to confirm, which they obliged. After checking what they could on my screen, they said they never received my order and proceeded to throw out a few different suggestions why it didn't go through. I just happened to be driving by a Wendys located at 2375 Comercial St SE, Salem OR, so I pulled in.. was told after I ordered, "sorry that is a corporate add and we are not corporate so it is $2.99." We have eaten here more times than I can count. Usually once a week if not more. The food is usually hot and staff is friendly. Today will be the last time for a long time if ever at this Wendy's. We order delivery a, lot. The last 4 to 5 times now our order has been wrong. Tonight was no different. We ordered a single burger, a double burger, and a chicken sandwich, fries and a drink,all through Wendy's app which we use all the time, even when we pick up. None of the burgers were correct. The double was a single with all the vegetables. The other was a single with ketchup which we ordered to be removed. The chicken sandwich was hard cold and just plain gross. My husband called Wendy's about the issue. They said to call door dash. DOOR DASH DOESN'T MAKE THE FOOD!! The girl on the phone would not listen. She offered a refund, but the said she can't give refunds. It was very infuriating. Needless to say this Wendy's has lost our business. Not all Wendy's are created equal. In a time when fast food now costs what dinner out used too, it's not a time to be making it worse and expecting people to pay more. read more

Honestly, I find the quality of Wendy's food to be somewhat better than many other major chain burger joints. The food isn't my issue with Wendy's, it's the staff. Last time we ordered, it took us 20 min. to just be able to order at the drive through. Our order had 1 simple request (no cheese), and they botched it. Additionally, my burger had a long, black hair in the middle of it. It's pretty obvious they can't handle the amount of business the store generates, but the hair issue is just plain carelessness and indicative of further unsanitary conditions. * The disclaimer here is this review is in regard to the Wendy's on Commercial ST in Salem, Or. Yesterday I ate at Wendys, the price was much cheaper than McDonald's by almost half, however... my freshly made cheeseburger was awful, the piece of lettuce had the core in it, the cheese was on the bun so it wasn't melted, the patty was burned looking it was so dark and thin, the bun looked actually old, so I basically ate a cold patty and bun. But the fries were much better than all of the other fast food places and my iced vanilla coffee was much smaller and more expensive than McDonald's but tasted about the same I overheard the man sitting by me explaining how bad the cup of chili was. I am really sorry to do this because I am not a negative review leaver, but I cannot handle this anymore. I am going to lose my sanity. I have lived in Salem for SIX YEARS and in that time period this Wendy's has NEVER, EVER, NOT EVEN ONCE gotten my order right. NOT. EVEN. ONCE. What is so difficult about the concept of a hamburger?? Every single time it has cheese on it. Every time. I ask for a hamburger. I clarify that a hamburger means no cheese. It's just a burger, with no cheese. Just a hamburger. Do you understand? No, Wendy's does not understand. And even if you decide to play it safe by NOT ordering a hamburger, they will find some other way to mess it up. For example, last time I just ordered nuggets and fries and they got their vengeance on me by giving me fries that had been salted probably 4-5 times. I couldn't even feel my tongue after eating one of those fries. I had to go into detox and not consume any salt at all for the next three days just to recover from those fries. So today I decide to hedge my bets and order both a burger and nuggets, figuring at least one of them would be edible and if I lucked out I'd have lunch for tomorrow. Ha ha HA. The hamburger had cheese on it and the nuggets were spicy instead of regular. I just give up. The thing I don't understand is that it's been six years and we're talking fast food here--they can't still have the same staff. What do they do, train their new people to deliberately mess orders up? I have never had a problem at any other Wendy's. Wanted to add pickles and the employee was pretty rude about it. and even went as far as to say he can't imagine why I would ruin a meal like that. pretty ridiculous customer service. first off I'm paying money for what I want and don't need some Wendy's guy judging my life decisions. Went through drive-thru and the cashier was so rude ... got to the window was never greeted had 3 drinks and when i asked for a drink carrier she told me she didn't have time to get one. I'm gonna give this place a two star only because of the food, I've always enjoyed it. Also the girls that were working met us with a very high happy positive attitude. Full story picture is that we went through the drive-through and my husband and I cracked a couple jokes were shut down by some kid by the name of Isaiah and just made experience really rotten. Next time I'll just go to a different Wendy's. Looks like I'm not the only unhappy person also because it looks like there's nothing but one stars. went to this wendy's after work. paid with a credit card in the drive thru window. they did not return my credit card to me. i found it was missing when i got home. i called them with no answer(it was near closing time). drove back down to wendys to go inside but the doors were locked. went through the drive thru again. told them i think you have my card. they made me wait until i got to the window(they couldn't bring it out to me i guess). got to the window and she asked to see my drivers license. no free cookie for screwing up, no money off my order, nothing at all except for one i'm sorry. believe all the negative reviews on yelp for this wendys. read more

I've learned to hold a bare minimum set of expectations when going to a fast food place. It should be a good value and hot, reasonably clean, and not an inappropriately long wait. This Wendy's, which is inexplicably and chronically slammed from 11-2 every day, meets one of these - it is reasonably fast. I always give a business several tries before I write a negative review. I've been to this location a few times, and today was an all-time low in a string of disappointing visits. I ordered 4 items off the value menu, since the normal menu is astronomically expensive for what it is (If I want to pay $6, I'll go to an actual diner and get a much better one). I had a rough idea of how much it should've been, and when it was around that I didn't think twice. My food came within about 45 seconds, but when the rushing lady literally threw my drink onto the counter, it tipped over and spewed root beer all over the counter and floor. None of the employees seemed interested in cleaning it up. My food got wet, but they just threw it in a new bag and held it out to me without so much as a curt apology. That's when I noticed there was a sandwich missing. I checked my receipt and found out the cashier hadn't included it and charged me for a larger drink. I decided I didn't want to deal with fixing it, so I left. Adding insult to injury, my lone burger was carelessly slapped together and lukewarm. The only positive was my little Frosty. Then again, pulling a lever and filling a cup with soft-serve seems to be the maximum skill the employees can achieve here. I ordered and paid online. There was no "car-side to go" area - had to wait in the drive-thru line. When I reached the window, my order was not ready, and they asked me to pay again. They handed me the Frosties first, followed by some of my order. They told me the chicken sandwiches would take longer, and asked me to pull ahead to a waiting spot. Three cars left with their orders before someone brought another bag to the car. Unfortunately, it contained just two of five sandwiches. I had to go inside the building to get the others. Staff greeted me with, "Sir, the dining room is closed. You have to use the drive-thru", repeatedly. I explained that I had already been through the drive-thru, and just wanted the rest of my food. Without another word (or apology), the nearest employee promptly handed me a bag with my sandwiches. Meanwhile, my other food went cold and Frosties turned to soup. I arrived home to find that my "baked potato w/ sour cream and chives" had only chives, the lettuce was missing from all sandwiches, and the tomatoes were clearly not fresh. Ugh. My stomach hurts thinking about this place. The 1/2 lb burgers aren't bad in a pinch, but Wendy's is famous for more than just them. They're also famous for their cold fries. The only way to better your chances of getting hot fries is (surprisingly) not go when they are busy (which should increase your odds considering that they have to make more more often) but rather ask for unsalted. That way they have to make fresh, unsalted ones for you. But even if the cold fries and not so great burgers deter you, then maybe this will: I ordered a salad once and much to my delight, found a dead fly hidden in the fold of a piece of romain. Now, I'm not sure if they cut and wash their own lettuce, but either way I was repulsed have not been back since. read more
