Tried this place for the first time, but I'm not sure if I'd ever go back. The service took forever. My family ordered several dishes that we intended to share, family style. Skirt steak was OK. The pernil was ok, not as much flavor as I expected. And the crispy pork dish, forget the exact name, was not tasty at all. Lastly, the jibarito, they pour the sauce on top, making it almost impossible to eat as a sammich. And I know we are in a Puerto Rican restaurant, the walls tell you this as well. We had a very negative experience eating there today. I ordered the churrasco, rice with pigeon peas and tostones. My husband ordered a crab alcapuria and an octopus salad. My rice was lukewarm and did not taste fresh at all. The meat was gummy and the tostones were overcooked. The alcapurria was very greasy. Needless to say, we fell sick from eating this food. I had eaten there many times before and I never had a negative experience like this before. Needless to say, this is the last time we eat there. The service was a bit slow, in addition I ordered a pina colada and it came mixed with cherry juice and cherries on top which altered the flavor. I asked for a replacement with no cherry. I was still charged for the first. I ordered a flan for dessert and it was brought to me still in the tray with whip cream and a cherry yet the flan had not been turned over so when I went to eat it all the flan soaked in sugary caramel this killed the dessert. Oh my gosh! I ordered food to pick up. Easy order 4 Cuban sandwiches, 2 side salads. Initial ready time was 7:39pm. I got there at 7:40pm. I was told it would be ready at 8:10pm. Excellent! I thought that Wepaa would be a simple, family-run place with basic cuisine. While the place is somewhat simple and it does feel like family, the food is anything but basic. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. And I was amazed at the excellent presentation of each plate. It was like fine dining. The prices aren't the cheapest, but the care put into each dish reflects good value. We started with a chicken empanadilla which was super flavorful. For an entrée my wife had the grilled chicken breast with a curry/coconut sauce. The chicken was tender and the sauce was perfect. The mixed rice was super flavorful. And how many places have the option of nicely cooked asparagus for a side? I had the shredded pork. Sometimes pork can be very fatty, but this wasn't. The location is very small with limited seating. The diner type chairs and wooden tables are fine for their purpose but ambience is not the strong point for this restaurant. They serve bottle beer along with sodas. They serve Puerto Ricam cuisine. The food was hot upon arrival and very good. The price was reasonable. Never again. After waiting 30+ mins for appetizers then waiting another 50 minutes and still not getting our food we got up and asked for it Togo because we had kids with us and it was getting late. Overall I usually come here and it's hard for me to order different things off the menu although I am sure they are tasty because I really like their fried pork. The meat is tender but crispy and good flavor. I also once came here with some friends and I order the surullitios which were also very very good. Over all the food here at this place is very delicious and has great flavor. The staff members are a little bit nice but sometimes tend to work a little slowly or can forget some things. Last time I came there I ordered a salad and there was no dressing with the salad at all. I didn't think I would have to ask for salad dressing. Me and my family decided to go to this restaurant since we wanted some good Puerto Rican food. This was at a good distance so we came here. First we noticed that it was empty so we didn't think the food would take long but it did. The service was ok the waitress was fine but she stayed by the bar where we were sitting and stared at us while we ate. We felt awkward and every time we looked there she was there. After like 10 mins she left but still weird. The ambiance was good, very clean and bathrooms where good. The place is cozy, it has a nice non-ac space and an AC space. This review is for the newly opened location in Palm Harbor,which is located in a seriously sketchy hotel. The restaurant is NOT vibrant or inviting its dark and dingy. Our first server was so uninterested in working let alone explaining the menu. The house made sangria was nothing more than very sweet fruit punch and rum. Bottle beer was warm. We started the coconut shrimp appetizer that was supposed to have a guava sauce served on the side. The server brought it out dropped it in front of one of my companions and walked away did not provide appetizer plates or utensils. It seemed the workers just came out when absolutely necessary and ran back into the kitchen area because at one point there was absolutely no one who worked in the restaurant anywhere to be found. The coconut shrimp had absolutely no flavor no taste. It had some brown nasty coating and coconut flakes stuck to that - just flavorless and absolutely terrible. Dinner - my partner ordered the churrasco which was so small and again flavorless with white rice and tostones. The rice was definitely a few days old and the tostones super dry and twice or three times fried. My parents shared carne frita (super dry and salty) and a mofongo (decent but oily) I ordered the trifongo stuffed with shrimp in garlic sauce, the trifongo was actually good the garlic sauce decent the shrimp definitely NOT fresh. The second server was apologetic and embarrassed, she said we hope you come back soon and I replied never again. Total waste of money and time. Go elsewhere if you are looking for REAL puerto rican food. read more

If you have the money to pay for it, I will tell you its the best Puerto Rican food you will find in the bay area, and that's coming from a Puerto Rican. the only flaw is that it is a bit pricey, but with the prices of rent and everything going up theses days its easy to see why. Be aware of certain foods you order if you are not a patient person. Some food take long to prepare then others, but its always worth the wait. You can even ask ahead of time if you are not sure how long it will take. The service is very good, people have always been friendly when I have gone. If you like sea food I would recommend my favorite stuffed plantains with conch, its also a bit cheaper than other sea food items. All of the appetizers are great but my favorite are the empanadillas, not to confuse with the Mexican empanadas, those are different, and made with a different crust. I hear the are going to start hiring Puerto Rican live music performers, which is always fun time, and I can't wait to see that. read more

This is the best mofongo with churrasco I've had in my area. The chuleta can can was amazing. It was crunchy, cooked through but not dry. The alcapurrias are really good too. Octopus salad was good. Do not be discouraged by the wait time. The food is worth it. This Puerto Rican restaurant makes everything from scratch and is made to order. My husband (who is Puerto Rican) and I were happy to finally check this place out. The restaurant is very busy and they are a bit short staffed but I never felt ignored. Just be prepared for a bit longer wait and order plenty of appetizers (the stuffed tostones are SO good). We both ordered dinner meals with sides along with the Guava Dream for dessert. My favorite place is My Viejo San Juan in Orlando, but it is a little too far for last minute arrangements. It is a small little restaurant, with a room outside(no ac) as anywhere in Puerto Rico would be, and a room inside with ac. It has a small bar and a few tables along with very traditional decoration. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and on point. Even tho she was literally working all tables. I believe her name is Patricia. My hat off to her. Let's get to the important thing here, the food. I ordered the pernil with arroz con gandules and tostones, since it was my first time. The pernil was great. Tender, juicy and flavorful. It was better my than my own. The rice was a little blend and a little "mushy" for my taste. But it was good. The tostones were just like any other, but the mayo ketchup was the perfect combination of ingredients. The crab empanada was really good. Small but packed with crab inside. To me it was a good experience. It's not mi viejo San Juan. But it is the best tasting food I have found around Tampa. I highly recommend it. And did I mention they have "tostones de pana" !! True Confession: My husband accidentally placed a takeout order from here, thinking he was calling a local St Pete establishment with a similar name. He called and was placed on hold for an exceptionally long time, to the point where he was ready to hang up when the woman returned to the call. He placed an order for a Chicken Empanada, and order of Tostones, an order of Mofongo with Chicken and an order of Mofongo with Fried Pork. When she read back the order, she wasn't even close to being right. After correcting the order, she told us they needed payment in advance for takeout orders - which we did. So after driving to our local place and realizing they had no order for us, he had no option but to drive to Largo for our food. I won't comment on temperature, as we realize that it was a long drive back to St Pete. The empanada was ok, nothing special. TheTostones were incredibly hard and came with no sauce. In general, the chicken was a small portion and pretty blah. The pork was basic fried pork - but the problem was that the mofongo in both cases was REALLY dry and would have possibly been much better if they had included some sauce on the side. I think if you are going to do takeout, you need to look at what the product is going to be like when people get it home, not just what you typically serve in the restaurant. Don't know that we'd rush to Largo to try their food. read more
