This is the best barbeque area with a view of the bridge and the bay. It's foggy most of the time but on a sunny day this place is packed. There isn't really any food around here besides coffee at the Warming Hut so you'll need to bring everything in for a picnic. After eating you can hike up to the bridge or to the Wave Organ which is about a mile and a half. Fort Point is also close by. read more

This picnic area is very popular, and even though it can get really windy here sometimes, especially later in the day, the parking lot is located close by, very convenient. The beach area here is great, it's just not very big. And you're within walking distance to the Torpedo Wharf and to the stairs that lead up to the Golden Gate Bridge and Welcome Center. This has to be the most beautiful picnic area I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. It's surrounded by nature and very refreshing. The area is very clean and is well taken care of. There's trails to walk on, beaches to enjoy, a wharf to fish on, the Golden Gate Bridge to enjoy the view of, this place is just amazing, I strongly recommend taking a trip to this location! My only regret is visiting when it wasn't a sunny day, however, that didn't diminish the sheer beauty of the location, a wonderful location you can visit regardless of the weather and enjoy! read more

On a whim we decided to drive up to SF to explore around the Golden Gate Bridge. We just happened upon the West Bluff Beach area and Fort Point. We parked in between the two but walked away from Fort Point towards the pier and beach area. It was a clear day and we had great views of the Fort, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the SF Skyline. We explored the pier area and saw folks catching fish and crabs. The girls were excited to see seals swimming around and popping their heads out of the water. Just in case you need it, there are bathrooms near the pier. When we got to the beach area, our girls (7 & 9) had to jump in and get their feet wet. As we were leaving we watched a cruise ship pass under the Golden Gate Bridge. We would love to go back another time to explore Fort Point and make it further down to the picnic area. The perfect place to picnic in San Francisco because it has everything: Picnic tables, grills for cooking, green grass and beachfront for play and views! views! views! in every direction. The Crissy Field warming hut is nearby (it's a pretty building, not a tent as the name somewhat implies) where you can pick up some hot chocolate or hit the (clean) restroom. There's even a fairly large parking lot right behind the picnic area that only charges on weekends. Like the name of the place says, we had a picnic here with fam. Was a beautiful gorgeous non foggy day. Cool steady breeze enough so that you had to hand on to your napkins. Being from NOLA, just seeing the Golden gate Bridge in the background was awesome. We don't have views like that back home much less mountains or a bay like that. Not too crowded during the first covid lockdown and I loved that. I cant imagine actually cooking out here though. Too breezy. But it was beautiful. read more

This is an extremely idyllic place to host an outdoor birthday party or get-together with friends and hang out over some brews and burgers. You know, that standard American fare. You've got a select few tables nestled in Crissy Field. On one side you have the iconic Golden Gate bridge view, adjacent you have the blue bay waters with sail boats caressing the seas, on the opposite of that you have tall green trees that are so symbolically Californian, and on the remaining side you have the SF skyline. It really cannot get any better than West Bluff. I came here to BBQ some asado. Came around 12:30pm on a sunny Saturday hoping and praying for a table because I read online that if you don't come at 7am and claim your spot then you're screwed. I was indeed screwed. I just bit the bullet and picked a spot in the grass. Probably sat in some dog piss but the views surely negated that. Then I noticed a family left one of the tables but it still had a remaining towel and box of grapes. No one had hung out there for a while so I just nabbed it. Finder's keeper's right? Later, a lady comes by sweeping the towel and grapes and said she had claimed two tables but ended up using only one. I think I got lucky because this doesn't happen often. And there's only 4 grills in the entire picnic proximity so you're SOL on that if you don't arrive super early. Claiming a grill is like a unicorn sighting experience. I was really appreciative of her for giving me the table but at the same time realize how greedy people are. People literally come to place items like markers on a table and leave. Please only claim and use up what is needed. Share the beautiful space with other families and groups. There are limited tables and more parties than this picnic spot can accommodate. It would be highly suggested that people bring their own seating and make do with what they need instead of hoarding tables. Just a suggestion. read more

This has got to be one of the most underrated and most beautiful places in San Francisco. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Palace of fine arts, and downtown San Francisco. All in one place, plus it is a great place to have a picnic or fish if you are into fishing. I also see a lot of people walking their dogs or running in this area which it seems perfect for as well. One thing is that you might want to bring an extra jacket because I can get a little bit chilly here. read more

BEWARE! My wife and I stopped here for maybe 45 minutes and while there was a great view of the bridge, our truck was broken into and out belongings were stolen. This was in the middle of the day and there were people around too! Apparently it's common to happen in the area and when we filled a police report, we're informed we were about the fourth call for that area just that day. Eff this place. read more

BBQ. My city friends and family love bbq'ing here. Especially during warm days, during SeaFair, or if my CR clique is hosting a run. Besides the very few places to BBQ In GG Park, this place is best. Come early or you're screwed. Expected hot days to be ridiculous to get a table, my friends would come at 6am to get a table. ITS THAT SERIOUS. 1. Apparently any party (or according to them "organized event") over 50 people requires a permit or some kind of fee to the park. We can't help it if we are popular. Lol 2. No selling items (candies, tshirts, etc). Better slang from your trunk. Lol - being sarcastic. 3. No using their property to hang banners. Great place to bbq and hang out with friends and family! Just get here early and make sure you reserve a bbq put as its first come first serve. Make sure you bring all your supplies and get parking as soon as possible! We had a great time catching up and would definitely visit this place again. The views are incredible. On the left side of the water is a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was such a beautiful day today it almost looked unreal!! On the right side of the water there's the skyline where you have a clear view shot of the city landscape. Just gorgeous! We caught it on such a great day! Glad we came and made new friends. PUBLIC RESTROOMS: there are public restrooms in a tan and white building. They close at 7pm so make sure to get situated! So glad there are public areas to wash up. West Bluffs Picnic Area in the Presidio has become one of our favorite spots to hang out on a beautiful day in the city! Located near historic Fort Point at Crissy Field, it offers magnificent views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin Headlands, and Angel Island. Picnic sites are first come-first served and come equipped with barbecue pits and picnic tables. Restrooms are also located nearby making visiting with kids very easy! Whether you bring a picnic or buy lunch at the Warming Hut, relax and enjoy yourself while the kids fly kites nearby or play in the water near the shore. This a great spot to watch a flotilla of vessels from sailboats to freighters go by. If you want beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge, come here. There's ample parking and a short walk to the pier and beach. So lovely for a picnic. There are plenty of large picnic tables (can fit about 8 people), with the most beautiful view of the bridge and water. I think there are even bbq pits, if you want to grill. On a perfect sunny Saturday, there was still a table free for us around 2! We brought the bubbly, and there was no problem; it's a pretty open and free spot. After your picnic, you can walk along the promenade, and dip your feet in the water and sand. There are tons of cute dogs along the way, and everyone is very friendly - it's so beautiful there that everyone must be in a good mood. :) The only downside is the bathroom access, oftentimes there can be a long line. (But you can sneak into the House of Air down the street, or if you already bounced that day, freely go back in!) read more

It was my first time BBQing and I couldn't have chosen a better place than West Bluff!! I planned this out maybe a week before the day of the BBQ. Because I planned my first BBQ on July 4th at a place this beautiful. I had to make sure everything I needed was packed up and ready. After reading the reviews and asking around , this place gets pretty packed. And i thought It won't be surprising if it gets filled up for July 4th. I live in the Richmond district so I left the house around 6am (the reviews recommended 7am) to be sure I'll definitely get a table since I packed everything already. I stopped by at Safeway while I was on the way and got to the BBQ area by about 6:40am. When I got there it was already loaded with people. Good thing there was 1 table left for me or else I would've felt very upset the whole day. When I got there there was already people at each table cooking !! I was so surprised. The table that was left was dirty. Bench and table was wet from probably the fog and covered with spots of bird poop. Lots of seagulls and trash around the area and grass was wet (not to the point with puddles and mud). So I definitely recommend Clorox wipes, paper towels, etc. After I cleaned and set up the table it was looking amazing. By noon all the fog was gone and we had a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Grass was drying up enough that you can lay a piece of cloth on the floor and have a extra sitting area. (I had a layer of plastic cloth under my piece of cloth to make sure it won't be wet/damp when I sit on the floor). It was such a great time. Everyone there was nice. Having alcohol and chill. I had kids and dogs and they were totally welcomed! Throughout the day there were people picking up the trash/ cleaning out the trash bins. So there was plenty room for trash but if you bring your own trash bag it'll be very convenient. read more

San Francisco has many lovely picnic spots in various lovely places with variegated lovely views. In short, I am extremely fortunate to live in such a lovely city. But I get spoiled because I don't spend enough time at these lovely places, and when I do, I'm not usually impressed right away. So the West Bluff Picnic Area would deserve four-and-a-half stars if it weren't in San Francisco, but it's in our lovely city, so I'm dinging it because it's way too hard to get to without a car. Yes, you can walk from Crissy Field, but the most direct bus route on paper seems to be from the Golden Gate Bridge parking lot, but have you tried walking that? There's no rhyme or reason to the sidewalks; you'll have to brave treacherous inclines and poky non-native ice plant, and even then you might see where you're going but not know how to get there. So I drove. And guess what? The parking lot's tiny. I know, I know. So I parked way over by the businesses behind Crissy Field, and then I ended up walking almost as far as I would have if I had taken the bus to the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. The parking lot is also too narrow and an insurance company's nightmare--everyone's always backing into everyone else, and people are idiots and sit there idling without realizing that people can't back out of spots when the cars waiting to fill those spots are blocking the backer-outers' egress. The picnic tables themselves are fine. And there's grass. And yes, lovely views. I won't pretend I didn't enjoy myself, because I really did. But I also had to watch the clock because my meter was running, and I had a half-mile or so to walk to feed the meter or re-park. If you're a kid or an adult who has people carting you around because you're just like that, here's what you'll think: Lovely! read more

This is a really beautiful park, I had me birthday BBQ here on a Saturday in October. Got here at 7.30am and one grill was already taken. All others were gone by 8.30am ish. But even if the grill was gone you could take a table and rent a grill, it's worth it for the views! read more
