Been to this location about three times now, so I feel like I have a pretty good sense of what to expect. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. It got the job done, but it isn't something I'd go out of my way to come back for anymore tbh. The staff has always been friendly, which I appreciate, but the biggest issue has consistently been the wait. Every visit has taken much longer than I'd expect, even when I was the only customer in the restaurant... I'm talking like.. 20 minutes for a sandwich. EVERYTIME I've gone it's always been quiet, almost a little too quiet, and it feels a bit awkward dining inside. One visit also left a bad impression when an employee was sweeping the dining area and then continued aggressively sweeping in the kitchen while food was actively being prepared. I'm sure it may not have affected the food, but seeing dust potentially being kicked up and around open orders wasn't exactly reassuring Overall, it's an okay spot if you're nearby and need a sandwich, but between the long wait times, average food, and a few questionable moments, I don't see myself coming back for a little while. read more

The staff was kind but the quality of the sandwiches was poor they had no real aspect that made them different. I would go as far to say that you are better off going to Subway. We tried the lobster bisque for fun and it was just glorified tomato soup. Overall the restaurant was clean but the food was garbage; don't get me started on the fake "pesto" sauce, pesto is green!! Went back today with a friend and got a couple of sandwiches. The bread and produce were fresh and the staff were friendly. I think they are hitting their stride at this location! The only improvement I can see is the ratio of meat; it's still not enough for the cost in my opinion. But times are tough. read more

As Dear Hubby would tell you, I rarely am interested in the same food (or restaurant) as a repeat in a given week. Certainly not back-to-back. However, as a sourdough lover going back to my youth, when I searched Yelp for a lunch spot last weekend when we were in the area, I was excited to see West Coast Sourdough as an option. Not only did we go there on Sunday afternoon; we also returned on Monday mid-day and brought Adored Grandson, too. The first time DH and I split the 8-inch hot pastrami sandwich with au jus on the side. Major yum! The cashier suggested adding their house sauce, which was a great addition to the flavors of the pastrami and sourdough. The au jus added another layer of meaty, salty flavor. I was very happy with that choice. DH also had a cup of clam chowder, and I ordered a chocolate chip cookie. We were happy campers. As I was looking around the interior space, I noticed several seasonal items. One was a lobster roll with bacon sandwich. How did I miss that at the outset? Lobster roll as a fast casual sandwich shop? Hmm! That was the reason that we went back the next day, actually. I raved about the place to AG, who wasn't raised steeped in sourdough flavor goodness, so wasn't as stoked as I was. Still, he really enjoyed his buffalo chicken sandwich. DH and I each ordered our own 6-inch lobster roll sandwich on our return visit. That is the only size that they offer for that special sando. Their take included lots of lobster, plus some crunchy celery and light mayo over tomato and lettuce, so it was served cold. That was fine, but the bacon could have benefited from a warm up. Otherwise, it was delicious. Because it was rich, probably DH and I could have split one sandwich and just ordered something else on the side. I was definitely full on the drive home. The interior of this location is cheerful, with oversized collages of images of California destinations and fresh food items on the feature wall. The team of sandwich artists kept busy with their orders not only for in-house guests, but also take-out orders. We didn't feel rushed to give up our table. We almost bought a take-and-bake large sourdough bread to bring home, but they got busy and we had to head out. Nice to know they offer that option for a reasonable price. I missed the West Coast Spurdough that our area had near Hillsdale that closed. I was so happy to see this new location pop up! I had the BEST sandwich here today. The turkey and dry salami on sourdough. I only removed the pickles and jalepeno. Then I added oil, vinegar and Dijon. I'm not sure if other people order sandwiches this way, but it's a hit in my family. ;) The sourdough was so fresh and tasty. I also had the clam chowder and that was really good as well. The 15 minute wait was definitely worth it. I went during a busy lunch rush at 1:00 and luckily got the last parking spot in the little plaza. read more

Tried West Coast Sourdough's new location on Meridian this evening for the first time. I ordered a toasted pastrami sandwich and BBQ chips. I want to support this business, especially because it's in my neighborhood, but I didn't care for my sandwich. It was drowning in house sauce, which made it messy and too tangy. It also needed more pastrami, which I felt was sliced too thin. And this is a small thing, but I ordered Miss Vicki's BBQ chips, which I love, and got Lay's, which I don't really like. I'll try a different sandwich next time and see how it goes. read more

Stopped by West Coast Sourdough since it had just opened up in my neighborhood and had an ok experience overall. The sandwich tasted fine but the portions were really small for the price, which made it hard to justify the cost. Went in while visiting the next door carniceria, La Rosca, and was not disappointed! I got the turkey and cranberry sauce with bacon added. Usually I make a mess of sandwiches, but the bread held tight! You can tell the staff is working hard to make the in house and delivery orders but are still professional with a tiresome mile. I like this place ! They make their own bread so it's very fresh and chewy. Food: Pastrami - pretty good overall. I would like a little more meat though. I usually get pastrami sandwiches at Togo's and they pack the meat. Garlic pesto turkey - their number one bestseller. Surprisingly very good. I wasn't looking forward to it because most turkey is dry. But this turkey is flavorful, juicy, and the garlic pesto sauce is a nice touch French dip - very good, flavorful, and dipping the meat into the sauce is awesome. Service - very good. Just opened yesterday! Friendly cashier had a manager/trainer assisting. Line moved quickly to order, took a little while for the food to be ready, but they're making everything fresh and I'm sure that the pace will pick up as they get their feet under them. We had: Turkey and Salami - good quality meat, but not a ton of it on there (they weigh their meats, so this is just how it comes, but they offer extra meat for an upcharge. I'd personally opt for the extra, but my wife thought it was the right amount as-is). Good sourdough. Nice sandwich overall. BLT - crispy smoky bacon, decent tomatoes, same sourdough. Nice little sandwich. Clam Chowder - good flavor, not too thick or clumpy. Very nice Cobb Salad - They were out of hard-boiled eggs, offered me a substitute if I wanted. NBD to me, just took it as is. They forgot the dressing, luckily I live close by so I went back and got it (which was quick and painless). Once I had everything I needed, this was a great salad overall, with generous portions of tasty ingredients. Fresh lettuce and flavorful cherry tomatoes, tasty grilled chicken and bacon, perfect avocados. Side pickles - they forgot them initially, so I figured I might as well ask for them when I went back for dressing. Glad I did -- they are nice and crunchy with a good dill flavor. Chocolate Chip Cookie - OK, but not my favorite Lemon White Chip Cookie - enjoyed this one much more. I think this is going to be a great option to have in the neighborhood. I'd only caution that if you come in the next couple of weeks, you'll want to be patient, and double-check your order before you leave, at least until they get everyone fully trained and up to speed. read more

Really impressed how fresh, light, and crunchy the bread was. I had the turkey pesto and it was great. Nice selection of sandwiches and friendly service. I really appreciated they have a 4" size for when you just need a small snack. Lots of seating and clean. The parking lot is kinda crazy busy but have patience. There's always someone leaving. Only two issues: sometimes the sandwich is too toasted and the roof of my mouth is all chopped up after....and... sometimes it takes awhile for the order. It's so nice to have a West Coast Sourdough in the neighborhood! We had been making the pilgrimage to the store on Coleman, so we were glad the one on Meridian finally opened up. We have been going there at least once a week since they opened, and their sandwiches just hit the spot. We've tried the roast beef, turkey and salami, chicken salad, and pastrami, along with sides of soup and mac and cheese. All very good. The bread is always top-notch, and the consistency of their sandwiches is always the same; never too dry, never too overloaded with mayo/mustard. Bread on sandwiches, hey if you know you know. Sandwich 8/10. I could have gone for a little more meat. Don't get me wrong, they don't short cut or cheap out on the meat, I just would have liked a little more meat, but the sandwiches overall was great. Chowder 7.5 / 10. Very good, but im picky about my Chowder, but good nevertheless and I will order it again. It was good. The I assume owner or manager was nice. Prices were not shocking. Less than Tago's and much better quality. I would say one of the top sandwiches places in san jose, and just so you know Subway and Tagos are not among good sandwich places. Hope the quality and genuine service stays the same. Usually it never does unfortunately. Owners are alway super nice and welcoming and appreciate your business. Food is always good in the begging then after a while cost cutting ideas start and owners feel as though they're doing you a favor by allowing you to eat at their restaurant.
